Miley Cyrus, emo: ‘Sometimes I feel like I love everyone more than they love me’

These are some photos of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth earlier this week. Note that Miley is braless, I guess. She and Liam were grocery shopping in LA – I mean, why not do that braless? I don’t even know. I don’t have Miley-sized boobs, so I have no frame of reference. I simply cannot go out in public without a bra on – it would be ridiculous and obscene.

Speaking of ridiculous, I haven’t had the chance to chime in on Miley’s new haircut. Like CB and Bedhead, I think it’s pretty awful. So awful, in fact, I kind of wonder if Miley isn’t deeply regretting the haircut now that she’s a few weeks away from the drastic change. It’s like a slow-burning monstrosity, isn’t it? Haven’t you ever had a haircut like that? You talk it up, like, “Oh, I feel so free! Best cut ever!” And then a week later you look in the mirror and you’re like, “OMG, I HATE MYSELF.” I think that’s what’s happening to Miley, if I’m judging her Twitter correctly:

[Via Miley’s Twitter]

Of course, it would be easy to just assume that this is all about Liam and possibly about how Liam loathes the haircut too. Liam could be like, “Babe, your hair. I’m calling off the wedding.” Or it could be that Miley is just 19 years old and super-dramatic and everything is always SO EPIC and Jesus, aren’t all 19 year olds like that? The difference is that not every 19-year-old shaves half their head and throws a “pity party” (Us Week’s term) on Twitter. I do hope Miley eases up on the teenage dramz soon. It’s getting exhausting.

    Sounds like all 19yo’s.

    • Amelia says:

      It really, really doesn’t.
I’m really getting tired of the ‘oh, she’s only 19, that’s what people that age do’ … no they don’t. Not all of them and not nearly as many as people think.
I have friends who are 19 and studying medicine at uni. I have a friend that age who is a young carer for her mother and can’t go to uni because of it. People all over the world at that age are doing extraordinary things and not bleating about angst and crappy haircuts on Twitter.
Not to get on a moral high horse, but there are young women (and men) in Syria stuck in the middle of a civil war, and it really grates on my nerves when there are incredibly courageous and determined young people all over the world who get thrown into the same bracket as this talentless little attention seeker.
Rant over. Happy Friday everyone, Cracktinis are on me.

      • TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

Excellent post amelia – remind me again what is truly so admirable about these people?

      • Kai says:

THANK YOU THANK YOU and THANK YOU ! I’m quite frankly sick of that excuse.. I know so many 19 year olds, and they would NEVER do even HALF the things Miley is doing. She reminds me of Kim K, doing things for attention, tweeting like they’re the most important people in the world (But at least Kim gets paid for it..)

      • KC says:

Thank you! I hate that “she’s just young” excuse. Most people are never like this, and when I was her age (or even younger) my friends and I would roll our eyes at people who acted like her; it was ridiculous to us even then. And the people that I knew that acted like that at 19 are now STILL acting like that at 25+. It’s a personality thing, not an age thing.

      • Penelope G. says:

*yawn* Moral high horse = check. She’s emo. And there are 19 yo shooting American soldiers, throwing rocks at embassies, and gunning down innocents. There are all kinds of 19yos. Most in the US are self-entitled, whiney twats. Get over yourself, Ameila.

And Miss Piggy didn’t write anything excusing her age. No doubt as bored with Miley as the rest of us.

      • Lucinda says:

I disagree. I think she is being exactly 19. I often had those kinds of thoughts at her age and I was very responsible, working towards a college degree while working nearly full-time and paying all my own living expenses. Your examples are all from different cultures where expectations, experiences, and lifestyles are very different. It really isn’t fair to apply the standards of a completely different context to Miley.

BTW, I actually love her haircut. I think it looks very good on her.

      • KC says:

@Penelope G. and Lucinda: Oh most 19 year olds aren’t this emo, self centered or melodramatic, even most high schoolers aren’t. Everyone has their moments, but Miley is regularly like this. And there is a big difference between thinking something morose and saying it to anyone who will listen.

And this comes from someone who went to high school with some of the most spoiled kids outside of Beverly Hills. Seriously, earlier this week I saw a kid in my hometown driving a new Mercedes SLK home from school and I was only mildly surprised, and that was mostly because his house wasn’t in the “nice” part of town. We had some emo kids and some whiny, self entitled brats, but they were FAR from being the majority. Of course I grew up before the days of Twitter so maybe everyone’s attitude has completely since then.

      • Itsa says:

You couldn’t possibly any more RIGHT Amelia! Thank you for saying it so eloquently. Enough with the excuses.

      • Devyn says:

        @ Lucinda

“…different cultures where expectations, experiences, and lifestyles are very different. It really isn’t fair to apply the standards of a completely different context to Miley.”

        +1

There are exceptions, but basically anyone who is able to comment regularly on the Internet is richer and more well off than 99.9% of the people on earth. Getting rude service at a shop or restaurant, or having our bus arrive late is not a big deal AT ALL really, but they’re the sorts of things we whine and b*tch over regularly, on social networking sites as well as to people standing next to us.

Miley’s being melodramatic on Twitter, sure, but I don’t get all the righeous indignation on this thread. Maybe I’m missing something? *shrug*

      • iheartjacksparrow says:

You are so right, Amelia. When I was 19 I was in college working toward a degree so I could get a good job. I was not chopping off my hair or lamenting how I loved everyone more than they loved me. Of course, when I was 19 there weren’t cell phones and personal computers, and teens and young adults didn’t live their lives through Twitter and Facebook.

      • Leen says:

Funny you should mention Syria. Now I’m a 20 year old, I live in the middle east, I’ve seen and experienced things most people haven’t. I’ve lived through occupation, uprisings and revolutions and know many youths who have. Does Miley sound like a typical 19 year old? Pretty much yes. Despite the hardships, when I was 17 and even now there are days when I get angsty and ”I feel so fat’ or ”people don’t like meeee’. Nothing wrong with that, we are humans , we’re not immune to stupid stuff llike that. In fact it’s better to let it out no matter how dumb it is, than let it build inside. We are not superhumans.

  2. RocketMerry says:

    Oh, Miley.
Seriously, it’s like she’s subtly threatening to go all Linds-Brit-Amanda-Paris on our asses.

Just stop, sit down and try and be more mature, uhhmmkk, Miley?

  3. KellyinSeattle says:

Sometimes T-shirts w/ sayings bug me..this is one of them. Does she know what anarchy means? I wish she’d get less press; a little of Miley goes a long way.

    • brin says:

She needs to wear one that says “Angst in LA”.

    • David says:

      It’s a sex pistols song!

    • Elizabeth says:

I think you’re right – she likely doesn’t know what anarchy even means! Hahaha. It’s not just that she’s an annoying poser – it’s that she’s an annoying poser who won’t get off twitter. Twitter baffles me – no one’s thoughts should go straight from their mouths to publication. It’s like asking for a train wreck!

  4. k says:

Aiy, girl get yourself some boob support.

Their wedding will never happen, according to a blind item out today.

  5. magz says:

If I didn’t work in an office, I would do what EVER I wanted with my hair. Also I’ve seen/heard 50+yrs that are as just as dramatic is not more. Some people just never grow up and find peace with life.

  6. Kaye says:

Her hair is actually kind of growing on me (pun unintentional), at least when it’s not shoved up in a faux hawk.

    • Becky1 says:

Yeah, I agree. I think the haircut kind of works on her. I don’t like the side that’s shaved but I think the non-shaved side is cute. It would have worked better if she wouldn’t have shaved the other side. The longer side reminds of Linda Evangelista’s haircut back in the early 1990’s (yes, I know I’m dating myself!).

I actually had a similar short, asymetrical look when I was 19 and while I wouldn’t want to have that haircut now I loved it back in 1992! I can’t be too hard on Miley because her style is similar to how I used to dress at her age…braless (my boobs are around the same size as hers so it wasn’t a big deal), funky haircut, Doc Marten’s. It makes me feel a bit nostalgic. 19 is the time to do these things. If Miley were 40 it would be another story but at 19 I think she looks cute.

      • mollination says:

At Kai (I can’t reply directly to you for some reason), “tweeting like they’re the most important person in the world,” ….um, isn’t that kind of twitter in a nut-shell? It’s a completely egocentric platform in which people can indulge their own narcissism.

  7. FreeSpiritedGirl says:

Oh I know what exactly she means by this quote. It means Liam isn’t spending time with Miley as much as he used to. He is working unlike her. Busy with upcoming movies. She thinks he doesn’t love her enough now. Hehe

  8. G says:

It’s all so 19 year old. An attempt at a bad ass hair cut is a right of passage.

  9. TxGal says:

Really tired of this kid and her drama. She wants to be considered an adult she needs to act like one and dress like one.

  10. lizzi says:

No offense to Miley, but I do know some guys to whom short hair like that is a massive turn off. It’s just their preferences. Maybe liam loves it. Who knows? I do know that in that picture he looks SO OVER IT (their relationship, not the hairdo). She’s reaching toward him and he looks to be walking away.

    • Marty says:

He’s been doing that a lot lately. They don’t hold hands as much as they use to. Kinda sad really… She seems like she’s missing something in her life.

  11. Katie says:

I have no problem with her not wearing a bra, her boobs can handle it- but that is a lot of side boob.

  12. JoeBanana says:

Just love your dog and you will never feel that way again… 🙂

  13. stinky says:

are there no dentists in all of Hollywood that she could go to?-?
    priorities!

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Seriously. Her overbite could prob be corrected with one of those semi-permanent retainers..all it takes is money and will power. We know she has at least one of those things.

    • anniecc says:

Seriously, all this and you’re complaining about her *teeth*?

  14. Hotpockets says:

eh, I don’t know if Liam is turned off by the hair. I know some guys don’t like short hair, but my husband is always saying that he would love for me to cut off my long locks for a short do because it would be different. Plus, hair grows back and once it gets a little longer she can put extensions in. I am sure that is the least of Liam’s concerns with Miley.

I get the impression that Miley constantly needs approval, just like all 19 year olds and child stars and she is worried her career is becoming obscure and will do whatever it takes to stay relevant, which probably drives her fiance nuts.

Also, I don’t care if you have a small rack, wear a bra!

  15. Emmav1 says:

Agree with posters who say she needs approval. She’s in a bad place with her career at the moment (LOL bombed so badly at the box office), plus I doubt her personal life is stable, as her parents went through that weird non-divorce fighting like a year ago (or 2 years??) and Liam is spending a lot of time on his career as he’s now a “big” star due to Hunger Games.

Nothing’s going right so she needs fan support to tell her she’s still the big fish of teens (ie: her Hannah Montana peak fame)

It makes me sad how she’s wearing so much makeup going out shopping. A year ago, she was always barefaced and didn’t care about the paps, but now it’s different…and she’s smoking a lot too!

  16. Ally says:

A few years ago, I went from long hair, to a Halle Berry pixie. Went to a club and all my long-haired friends looked so good, that I got really down on my hair. I can understand a little…

  17. Oooowl says:

I’m not Miley apologist but i kind of feel for her in regards to that statement.

She might be talking about financial support. A lot of people think providing money equals love and are hurt when they receive love back. She supported her family for a long time and I’m sure she’s helped a lot of friends along the way.
so i can see her feeling that way.

  18. Jen34 says:

I feel bad for saying that I hate her new look, but it is awful. I wonder if Liam hates it, too. She is heavy handed with the make up, which I think is natural when you get a short cut.

It sounds like she has too much time on her hands. She needs to find something to do.

    • Esmom says:

Yes, WAY too much time on her hands. She needs to look into a bra, step away from the Twitter and do something productive. How about volunteering with kids? That shouldn’t be too taxing for her and might even give her a boost, self-esteem wise.

And I knew from Day One that she would have major haircut remorse. Mark my words, she will miraculously have shoulder-length hair or longer before we know it.

  19. MonicaQ says:

My husband loathes long hair. I think it’s because his mom had hair so long she could sit on it. I have an afro and don’t like extensions so that’s never a worry. I *did* have to educate him on black hair in High School when we started dating which was a wonderfully hilarious experience. (He is quite Caucasian)

He remarked that Ms. Cyrus looks better and so did my 19 year old brother. I think it doesn’t look like, “Oh here’s some long brown hair with soft curls” that everyone does. She might regret it like I regret having that bright red afro at 20 so I looked like Ronald McDonald. Yeesh. But she might love it, who knows?

  20. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

She appears to be so “lost” right now. I feel kinda bad for her (in some ways). Hope she can find happiness in herself and her relationships..the Twitter posts speak loudly.

    • Marty says:

Agreed! She’s not going to be happy with any of the different aspects in her life until she’s happy with herself.

  21. Shaniqua Nunyadambidness says:

    Hello, young Kate Gosselin…

  22. TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

Seriously, this twit and most of her peers need to shut up – no need to advertise their vacuity, we get it – I’m going back to reading Hemingway. I agree Esmom, too much money and not enough substance, talent, or interests to fill the hours.

  23. moo says:

She’s right. I don’t love her. At all.

  24. Jess says:

She looks like crap. At least with flowing long hair she could disguise that fact that her face was nothing short of fug. I’m sorry…it just is.

  25. xooo says:

I’m 19 and i’m just the same..in.one moment everything’s perfect the next moment i feel terrible and ugly and like my boyfriend loves jessica alba more than me 😀 i know it’s ridiculous but when i’m in that situation i feel horrible

  26. Talie says:

Yeah, marriage sounds like GREAT idea when you’re this immature. Suurrreeee….

    • littlemissnaughty says:

My thoughts exactly. These are not the tweets of a woman ready to enter a marriage. She needs to grow up a bit more before even thinking about marriage. Teenagers are dramatic and unless they had to grow up fast (for whatever reason) these are very typical thoughts. The difference is that when I was that age, there was no twitter. We didn’t broadcast every moody thought and neither did celebrities.

Sometimes I really hate twitter. It’s like the no. 1 tool for oversharers and people without filter. It encourages blabbering and if you’re allowed to “share” all kinds of bs with the world all day instead of having someone in front of you whose reaction will teach you when to shut it …. that’s a recipe for the making of self-involved idiots.

  27. poor dear…Liam got scared of the haircut..is adjusting…hahaha..

  28. Stephanie says:

These photos look like they were snapped in a wal mart parking lot.

  29. JudyK says:

OMG, get off the haircut thing…believe it or not, not everyone loves long, generic hair, hair extensions, housewives’ whore look, etc.

    Miley’s hair is adorable.

  30. CharChar says:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her hair! And the shirt too. I had my hair cut almost exactly the same in the ’80’s and I love/d the sex pistols….her new style makes me feel so nostaglic for the ’80’s!

  31. on thehair says:

I hate Miley’s hair. Her face is fug, and the masculine hair features her hideous face.

    Poor Miley.

Miley started having problems when she cut her hair; she demoralized herself, I think. Miley’s hair is the cause of all her legion issues.

  32. Io says:

She has a migraine and feels whiny…Sometimes pain makes you pseudo- introspective. I’ve done it before-had some cramps and lied in bed feeling sorry for myself and dramatic. Then I get up the next day and do something. Has nobody had a whiny day here?

    • KC says:

I have, I did it a couple weeks ago when I sprained my foot. Well I wasn’t pseudo-introspective, but I was cranky.

As a chronic migraines sufferer, she doesn’t really sound like someone with a migraine to me, unless it’s a light migraine. She’s doing an awful lot of tweeting for someone with a migraine. If it were truly that bad then the sound of the keys would drive her insane (unless she has a touch phone) and the light from the screen would hurt her eyes. She’s probably just a dramatic person who is blowing it out of proportion; Like my dad who whines to everyone the one time he gets a migraine until he takes an Excedrin and it magically goes away. (It’s not a real migraine if it goes away with Excedrin.)

Even saying she wants her mom right next to her suggests it’s not that bad; everyone I know can’t STAND to have people that close to them when they have a migraine. Their breathing, shuffling, etc can cause pain. If you have a migraine, you really just want to be left alone in a darkened room. This is just Miley being whiny and melodramatic because she’s Miley.

      • Devyn says:

Have you considered the possibility that your migraines may be caused by ingesting gluten (or maybe casein i.e. milk protein)?

Apparently this is quite common, and I personally know a guy who used to have horrendous, debilitating migraines for days at a time which went away once he’d cut gluten completely out of his diet. Took awhile, but in his case it worked.

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf5q-Q0uqmw

        It’s an idea at least.

      • Bodhi says:

I get KILLER migraines too & you are 100% right. The only thing that can help mine is Imitrex & being left alone in a cool, dark room. My poor husband has learned all too well that loving on me onlt makes it worse.

I know that gluten is the trendy new culprit for everything & yes, some people’s migraines may be related, but its doubtful that people who have suffered for years from chronic migraines have a gluten sensitivity & don’t know about it. There are way more obvious symptoms

      • KC says:

@Devyn: Thank you for the suggestion, but there actually several more common food triggers. (And a point of correction: it’s aged cheeses that are common, not dairy in general, although that can happen too.)
I actually had my first migraine when I was 12 and they peaked around age 16, and food triggers are the first thing they make you weed out. And since my insurance company refused to pay for any migraine medication until I turned 18, I was VERY diligent about testing *everything* in my diet to see if it was a trigger. I learned that eliminating gluten causes no change in how I feel at all, oranges and sugar need to be limited, and not eating dairy makes me feel *very* ill in general. Religiously taking my allergy medicines does help a lot though.

@Bodhi: For me it’s Midrin with some bio-feedback and my poor cat that gets banned from the bed/couch because the sound of him kneading makes me want to cry and/or break something. Although he usually keeps trying until he settles by my feet and I just give up. And in high school my mom would literally tipetoe around the house when I had one.

I’m with you on the trendy diagnoses for migraines. In high school they tested me for diabetes even though I was a healthy weight, did two competitive sports, ate a healthy diet, had no family history (and my mom’s family is from a part of the midwest where they seem to think soda is a valid substitute for water so it should have made an appearance), and no other symptoms. Must be diabetes! (WTF?) At least it was a just a quick blood test.

    • Esmom says:

Yes but do you take the time to Tweet about it? She needs to unplug for a while.

  33. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

    ?

    It’s a HAIRCUT, not Novgorod.

  34. LeslieM says:

I’ve had some feeling like that, but I think it is way more than the boyfriend thing. You know when she was out of control a bit her dad went on tv about it. He did say he thought it was his fault for putti g her on a tv show and treati g her like she was an adult when she was just a teenager. If my dad went on tv and said I had problems I would be devastated! Stuff lime that sticks with you! A parent is supposed to help you when you are making mistakes and to love you no matter what.

  35. Itsa says:

That hair is completely hideous. Other than the boobs, she looks like a guy now. What was she thinking?

  36. la_maga says:

Oh my god, will everyone take a second and check themselves? First of all, I dunno about y’all minivan majority in the central states, but on the coasts her haircut is totally normal and fine and cute. A lot of girls are doing it. It would be annoyingly trendy if it weren’t so cute on her. So she’s not rebelling or anything; actually, she’s conforming. And don’t even come at me with the then how come I don’t see that on TV thing. Think about what you do and don’t see on TV and then come at me better educated.
She’s just 19. But she’s a former Disney star with millions to her name. You can’t really compare that to your hardworking med school friends (or whatever) who have their lives so together at such a young age. If I’d had the money and access at her age, I would have been the same way. And I’m not thanking anyone left or right that I did or didn’t have it. Who knows. But for real all this hate directed at a random semi-famous 19yo kid who got a trendy haircut? Stop trying to shut her down and go appreciate some genuinely good gossip.

    • Itsa says:

I beg to differ. Just because something is in style, doesn’t mean that it looks good on everyone. In order to have hair that short, you need to have beautiful features. She just doesn’t and that haircut accentuates her flaws.

  37. chimo says:

maybe she meant that others are less accepting of her flaws than she is of theirs. and as far as being so emotional, everyone is not forced to be mature at 19. 5 years ago she was selling out arenas and working just as hard or harder than people twice her age. in many ways she is an adult. it’s not as easy as it looks. Most of us wish we were a multimillionaire before the age of twenty. furthermore our behavior might not look so great when placed under a microscope either

  38. A Fan says:

She sure spends A LOT of time thinking about herself. Self-absorbed much?

  39. bettyrose says:

I regret checking on this thread so late, but now I’ve just gotta respond to Kaiser’s thoughts on braless at that size (especially given all the boob-talk today). The nice thing about having her bra size is that you absolutely can go without and not cause car wrecks. It’s just cute at that size and depending on her childbearing choices, those girls might hold out a few more decades. I don’t go commando on the regular, but sometimes when I’m just running to the store I do.

  40. Laura says:

CB said her hair looked good, not awful.
