Chris Pine allegedly “freaking out” over his thinning hair on set of ‘Jack Ryan’

I’m not all up on Chris Pine’s jock. I know a lot of Trekkie girls get all hot and bothered for him, and that’s fine, and good for you, I’ll just stick with Benedict Cumberbatch, thank you very much. I think my breaking point/aha moment with Chris was when I realized that he willingly dated Audrina Patridge for, like, a year. Seriously. Ever since then, I can’t get hot for him. Anyway, these are some photos of Chris filming the newest reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise in England this month. Jack Ryan, as some of you may know, is the Tom Clancy character previously played by (respectively) Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Most people think Harrison was the best version, but it’s also good to remember that Clancy’s original character began as a younger man – thus, the second reboot of this franchise within a decade with yet another 30-something actor. Interestingly enough, guess who is playing Jack Ryan’s girlfriend/wife in the reboot? Keira Knightley! For real. That part was previously played by Ann Archer and Bridget Moynahan. I feel like Keira might just be doing this for a paycheck? Weird.

Anyway, there’s some minor gossip coming out of the set. Allegedly, Chris Pine has hair issues. Like, Travolta-style hair issues.

Chris Pine is wishing someone could beam him up some hair. The 32-year-old actor is pining for sturdier follicles after everyone on the set of his new movie, Jack Ryan, began to notice that his hair was thinning.

“Chris is pretty freaked out,” a close friend tells Star. “He never realized how dependent he is on his looks until his hair started falling out. Now he’s panicking about how it will affect his career, his love life, everything.”

And yet, Pine is doing his best to take things in stride.

“He’s using Rogaine and not ruling out hair-replacement surgery,” the insider adds. But he won’t be able to get transplants until after he’s finished filming, of course, so he’s lucky that Hollywood has a solution for every pretty-face problem. The source reports: “The hair and makeup team are trying to cover up the patchy spots on his scalp and fill in the thin areas with spray-on hair.”

I’m looking through the photos… I can kind of see it. It doesn’t look major or “OMG, GET HIM A WIGLET.” It looks more like, “Huh, he’s thinning at the temples a little bit.” But the funniest part is that Star Mag is acting like this is going to be the most devastating thing EVER to his career. Dude, look at Ben Affleck. Look at Jeremy Piven. Look at Jude Law. Look at about a dozen more actors who either wear wigs or just go in for hairplugs. It’s not the end of the world.

Why are so many young men losing so much hair (well, not Chris specifically, but men in general)?!

No man in my family has ever had these problems, so when I see this or hear of it I’m always baffled.

    • Alexandra Bananarama says:

Your family is genetically blessed then. It’s quite common and I think travels through the mothers fathers genes. Or rather your son will get the hairline mother’s father had. I think..

These pictures do nothing for me, but he was gorgeous in the princess diaries 2! *swoons*

  2. David says:

    His hair is really thick.

    • Amelia says:

Yeah, I’m not really seeing it. But he does have that hedgehog type hair that when fluffed up, looks really thick, so maybe … But, tbh, I can’t see it.
It’s so weird that a Chris Pine post came up today, I just bought This Means War 20 minutes ago.
And Keira is so doing this for a paycheck. How startled does she look in the car photo?

  3. Jill says:

Now that I think about it, he should worry, because that hair hides that extra tall dome of his. He’s got a Frankenstein shaped head.

whenever anyone around me, nowadays, talk about losing hair, i direct them to this short take of baldness by captain picard sitting on graham norton’s couch next to qui-gon jinn and stephen fry’s whipping boy.

and sometimes, people are much more fetching when they’re balder (my dad for one, haha. true. he looks so dashing).

  5. Marianne says:

You know losing your hair is not the end of the world. But I think guys have a lot of pressure as the girls do in Hollywood to look “perfect”. So yeah, a guy losing his hair might be worried that he might not get lead roles as a romantic type…or whatever.

    • V4Real says:

A few years back I read some article that men who often wear caps tend to lose their hair prematurely, though I never understood the logic in that. But Chris shouldn’t worry too much I think he still has plenty of time to do those romantic leads before he lose all his hair. Chris Evans even joked about his hair thinning and didn’t seem to care too much about it but then again he is a neurotic sexy bastard.

  6. carrie says:

his skin problem is more problematic for me (his skin is awful:he’s the male Cameron Diaz of the skins)

  7. Talie says:

It does look like his hair is being pushed forward to hide any spots. I don’t know, he seems super neurotic in most interviews.

  8. The Original Mia says:

Don’t see it personally. He’s a cutie. Ugh. Kiera!

    • Belle says:

I’m not really buying this story either… they make it sound like he is freaking out after others pointed out the hair loss. They also make it sound like there are large patches of missing hair… um, okay. I kind of think he would have noticed if he were missing big chunks of hair… LOL

I have a feeling this story is nothing… or maybe the real story is that he started rogaine because he feels like he is starting to thin.

  9. lori says:

The Olivia Munn Connection grossed me off of him. I didn’t even know about Audrina Partridge. Double-gross! LOL

  10. Toot says:

He’s probably looked at his father and thinks that’s his possible future.

    • RobN says:

Male pattern baldness is genetic but it follows the mother’s line, not the fathers. Come up with a picture of the maternal grandfather and then we’ll see.

  11. trekkiefan says:

One year with Audrina? Dude you are really badly informed! If lasted a month was too much!
And about the hair he was with blond hair to play Captain Kirk in “Star Trek Into Darkness” and made a very short haircut for Jack Ryan, perhaps to remove the blond hair. Well he is the son of actor Robert Pine, then genetically, he probably will have problems with hair loss.
But so what? He’s gorgeous anyway and there are many solutions to this problem these days!

  12. trekkiefan says:

Regarding Keira Knightley in Jack Ryan, you should see what she said here:

“Dude, look at Ben Affleck. Look at Jeremy Piven. Look at Jude Law. Look at about a dozen more actors who either wear wigs or just go in for hairplugs. It’s not the end of the world.”

Yes, they work, but people talk about the current state of their hair constantly. No actor wants that to be the first thing you mention about them.

  14. Ari says:

He is so not cute to me.
    Like at all.

  15. Wembley says:

    Baldwin was the best Ryan.

    Ford was too harrisonny.

  16. Hayley says:

He could be bald and still be gorgeous.

  17. bicoastal says:

Uck. Balding is the least of his problems, he looks like a rodent. Is Hollywood really this desperate for leading men?

    • duchessofhazard says:

American leading men, me thinks. I do remember Vulture hosting an article once where the casting directors were bemoaning that a lot of leading men weren’t American (Australian, sure, but not American).

  18. Darlene says:

He should call Joel McHale’s hair people. They are the best in the business; his hair recovery was nothing short of miraculous!
