I guess I should join you for dinner…I did fly off, It’s just that if there is any criticism of Steve, everyones brains seem to fly out the window! Steve was a fantastic showman, there’s no doubt about that but many wildlife experts (don’t ask me to name them) questioned his methods of getting the great shots - he often frightened animals, the stingray is a case in point - stingrays percieve a shadow over them as a predator, so what did Steve do? - what he always did, he went for the money shot. He once bragged that his wife was ‘a good little capatalist’ and that they saw the best way to save the environment was by simply buying it…nothing wrong with that, but the way Terri has behaved with regards to Bindi, hawking her around all the magazines and tabloid current affairs shows, while all the while blithely saying ‘this is what Bindi wants’ is just plain WRONG. An 8 year old is not the best judge of their life. What’s the bet that as soon as Bob is old enough to string a couple of sentences together we’ll be seeing him.With all his flaws, Steve was a fantastic ambassador for Australia but the way his widow has behaved since his death, especially with regards to her daughter is dreadful. phew!

xiaoecho, apologies for my above comment. I got the impression that you had not read the full article because when you called it opportunistic I assumed that you thought that they were airing the death portion of the video based on the way the headline makes it look. Yes, yes, I assumed, which is wrong. I will now eat crow with chili sauce.

I don’t personally see that airing the video is opportunistic because when actors die during a movie shoot, the movie is still produced. I see it as a very similar thing. I never got the impression that Terry was a money-maker, just along for the ride. And the Bindi stuff I attributed to projects that her dad had set in motion before he passed. However you seem to know more about them than I do, so please accept my apologies.

Er, Australia Zoo is NOT a charity it is a money making concern and is wholly owned by the Irwin family as is the media they produce. What amazes me about this whole Irwin death thing is he is seen to be a saint in the ‘conservation’ BUSINESS.
Anyone who DARES to look critically at his methods or tactics (David Attenborough for one) is howled down because Irwin was percieved to be such a ‘good bloke’
Within DAYS Terri was out there promoting Bindi…her goose was cooked, she saw an opprtunity to keep the brand alive and took it. Bindi recieves uncritical blanket coverage here (Aus) in the media and anyone questioning that gets the same kneejerk reaction I got here on this blog. An eight year old does NOT know what is best for them, they percieve what is best for them is what pleases thier parents and that is what Bindi is doing…what is expected of her.

Looks like it’s Steve’s last wish to show the video of his demise. As sad it is, I believe his will must be respected.

My simpathies for his surviving wife and kids.

On another subject, I believe that the turtle is smiling…

Er, I think Terri Irwin is about as far from money-grubbing as you can get. Any money Steve made from his fame went straight back into the zoo and other conservation charities.

The whole thing is so sad. I think Terri is probably airing it as a compromise to Steve wanting his death to be shown on T.V. His last show is seen, but no one sees him die.

She’s obviously devastated by his death.

The fact that they’re going ahead with ‘Oceans Deadliest’ is just appalling. It’s opportunity at its crassest. Just disgusting. I feel sooo sorry for Bindi, having such a money grubbing mother.
