Scarlett Johansson in clingy white Dior at Paris Fashion Week: gorgeous or meh?

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson attended a Tod’s handbag launch at Paris Fashion Week, and she wore a semi-clingy, white Dior cocktail dress with Roger Vivier shoes. I would question why she didn’t wear Tod’s shoes, but I dig those heels so much that I’ve included a larger photo of them below. As for the dress, she looks pretty spectacular, don’t you think? It hugs in all the right places without thrusting her rack out for the whole world to see. Not that cleavage is a bad thing, but Scarlett is clearly trying to project a more serious image these days. Her simple hair and makeup are quite fitting for the overall look as well.

The event took place at the Italian Embassy, and Scarlett apparently made the jaunt on a break from rehearsing for Broadway’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She gave an interview to WWD, in which she talks about her personal style:

Scarlett Johansson

On preparing for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: “That’s pretty all-encompassing, and it’s pretty much taken all my brain space,” the actress said of her rehearsals. Other than two new films coming out later this year, she also acted in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directing debut film, which has yet to be titled.

On Tod’s: “I’ve loved Tod’s for a long time, they’ve always been very generous, and I’ve worn their stuff for a long time. It’s wearable, comfortable and classic.”

On dressing for her bod: “I think every girl has their difficult part of their body that’s difficult to dress. For me it’s always been about being petite and curvy. There are certain styles I’d love to wear, but I just have to come to terms with the fact that I just don’t look good in like a sack dress, it’s just not going to happen….As you get older you learn more about your body and what looks good on you. It’s weird for me, because I’’e been photographed for so long…and sometimes you look back at those red-carpet pictures, and you’re like, ‘What was I thinking?’ I think everyone has that, maybe not on that scale…but everybody has their shameful red-carpet moment.”

[From WWD]

Scarlett seems quite comfortable in her skin these days, and I appreciate that (for once) she didn’t manage to slip a little remark about how tough it is to be considered so sexy in Hollywood. Oh, and that JGL movie that ScarJo will appear within is actually the one where he looks like Ronnie from “Jersey Shore.” I didn’t know he was directing it too! Oh JGL, you’re breaking my heart.

I like these Roger Vivier shoes a lot — they are really cute and very comfy looking too on ScarJo’s pigeon-footed stance. The bag is okay, but I can’t seem to ever get past that horrible arm tattoo.

After the Tod’s event, Scarlett split and headed to the Barack Obama fundraiser held by Anna Wintour. She didn’t have time to change outfits, but one should never mess with (close to) perfection.

I usually think she looks gorgeous but she just looks…tired or something.

  2. cmc says:

Wow, this is the best she’s looked in a long time! The white washes her out a tiny bit but otherwise, I love it!

  3. KellyinSeattle says:

She looks so washed out …and like she needs to brush her hair. A little makeup would’ve helped but at least she doesn’t wear clown makeup. I like the clothes but some of these stars wear the most uncomfortable shoes and then pose all pigeon-toed in them! I guess fashion over comfort….after all, a nice dress w Dr. Scholls might not work. 🙂

    • hoya_chick says:

Ha! I said the same things below. Great minds and all that. When I clicked on the article there were no comments and in the time it took me to write mine six popped up.

  4. marie says:

I like the natural look she has here but that arm tattoo takes away from the dress (not that it’s all that great to begin with..)

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

That tattoo RUINS it for me.

This is a great reason to NOT get a tattoo if you’re a famous actress. It’s hard to look delicate and classy when you have a biker tattoo on your arm.

No offense to tattoos or those that have them-I just never understood the appeal.

    • BW says:

Oh honey, you have some schmutz on your arm. (Spits into hanky) Here let me rub it off for you. Quit squirming, sweety. You don’t want the grownups to see it, do you?

  5. phaksi says:

Love the dress, hate the shoes

  6. Christina says:

I’ve always thought Scarlett to be a slightly above average looking woman – not plain, but not gorgeous either. These photos have done nothing to change my mind.

    • Ella says:

I actually agree. I don’t see what other people see in her. I think she’d decidedly awkward-looking.

      • Ella says:

        Sorry, I meant “she’s.”

      • Christina says:

Yeah – she looks like a slightly geeky teenager in these pics – and not in a good way. Plus her much-hyped ‘voluptuous body’ isn’t all that. IMHO she’s fairly ordinary looking – facially and physically. I reckon any number of young women could look better than her if they had access to the world’s best designers, photographers, hair-dressers and make-up artists (not that these last two are evident in these photos!)

      • Mazunte says:

I disagree. I think it’s her awkward-looking style that makes her special. She is not a conventional beauty, she is a unique beauty, and very sexy.
Many of my male friends mention her as one of the sexiest actresses at the moment, and one of them said that women who fit perfectly the stereotype of beauty are… boring, and that some imperfections can be tremendously sexy. Scarlett’s nose and teeth are good examples in my opinion.
For me, it is the same with men. The “too pretty-looking” are good to look at, but they do not emanate sexy as much as a hot, peculiar-looking man.

    • CatfromFLA says:

Totally agree. She looks quite common here, with the meh face, greasy hair and tacky arm tattoo. I have nothing against tattoos (have one myself) but sometimes they don’t look very elegant.

  7. hoya_chick says:

She needs more makeup, she looks washed out with the hair and the white dress. Is that mean? I do like the dress and the shoes. The makeup and hair kind of kill it for me. Oh and that tattoo it vile. Wonder how she feels about her Ryan’s marriage? Happy Tuesday everyone!

  8. shewolf says:

Gorgeous dress… some hair and makeup wouldnt have killed her.

  9. HotPockets says:

Her hotness is debatable here, that’s never a good sign.

  10. Relli says:

I think she looks great, comfortable relaxed and coming into her own! As much as I love Ryan Reynolds, I think losing that relationship baggage did her a world of good.

And yes, nice to see her put the girls away, I know its hard (I have DD’s myself)but can be refreshing!

  11. Eleonor says:

Someone should tell Karl Lagerfeld some tattoos are worst than a Pucci dress. That one, for example.

  12. Cait says:

Love the outfit, but her makeup is washing her out.

  13. ladybert62 says:

The dress is ugly; the shoes are ugly and that tattoo is hideous.

  14. La Calabaza says:

She’s aging (growing up) so gracefully. Look at her skin! So beautiful without too much makeup.

  15. Fudge you, I'm going to Guam! says:

Some blush on her cheeks wouldn’t hurt.
    I don’t like her tattoo.
    Or her taste in men.

  16. d says:

Love the dress, hate the shoes, wish she’d worn a redder lipstick. Not fire engine red, just something a little darker with a red or burgundy tone. Otherwise, I like the “plain” look and her looks. She’s attractive to me, anyway.

  17. Katie says:

I think she looks lovely! She’s so beautiful when she isn’t trying to be a sex kitten.

  18. Heebeegeebee says:

I would call this a total transformation. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such good taste and tailoring coming from a high end designer. Most of them seem to just phone it in.

    • j.eyre says:

I agree. This is the best I have seen her dress in a while. I like when she glams up the make-up but I think this looks is really fresh on her. Love that dress and shoes.

I do dislike that arm tattoo.

  19. epiphany says:

Never understood the appeal of this women; as someone said previously, she’s certainly not homely, but she’s no great beauty either. If she were tremendously talented, I would get it, but her acting is just “meh.”

  20. Blondie says:

She’s a pretty girl, but I’ve never thought her to be what everyone makes her out to be. I know plenty of girls that are as pretty or prettier than her. She looks ok here, she could look better with a bit more make up, or a strong lip color.

  21. dooliloo says:

Well… after hearing that the ex you’ve divorced and you were expecting have left him heartbroken (because y’know you’re Scarlett after all..) has holy jolly in-your-face bounced back quick and got married again, of course you’d go on a shopping spree be tired, forget the perfect make up and look washed out… 😀

  22. lflips says:

I love the dress but that’s about all I’m loving in these pictures. Scarlett is strange, sometimes she looks otherworldly beautiful and sometimes she looks incredibly plain.

    • lucy2 says:

Agree – I think she’s very pretty, but I guess everyone has their off days!

That tattoo has always bugged me – too big, bright, and noticeable.

  23. effy says:

    Looking good Scarlett.

  24. Tommy says:

I don’t really think she’s that hot. She’s got a bulbous nose and funky teeth.

    • Chatcat says:

I’m with you Tommy. I just don’t find her attractive or appealing. She isn’t talented (no depth of acting) I just don’t get it. But Hollywood guys seem to loooovvvveee her. *Shoulder shrug*

      • Christina says:

Scarlett is a guy’s gall, no doubt about it. Most men are crazy about her. Most women find her ‘meh’ at best, supremely annoying at worst.

      • Chatcat says:

Christina…I have said this on CB before when SJO is brought up. My 3 sons 24, 21 and 17 don’t find anything attractive about her. Particularly when the Avengers was out, they were like “couldn’t they find somebody better looking and sexier for that role”. They actually then cut into her “attributes” and physical traits, but I don’t need to be nasty and cutting here. My point is, I think Hollywood men find her all that, but the young men of the general public may not.

      • Christina says:

        That’s interesting, chatcat.

So many men I know speak about Scarlett as though she were the epitome of female sexiness….. I simply don’t get it. I wouldn’t give her a second glance if she were to pass by me on the street.

And what’s worse is that she’s a rubbish actress. All she can do is pout.

      • Chatcat says:

Christina…I think she is attractive to those guys that really aren’t into strong, funny, sassy women. I think she stirs up the she’s a buddy and I need to protect nature in men…I don’t think she is the type of woman to ratchet up a man’s insecurities. Do you know what I’m saying? A strong, confident, quick witted woman is so much more of a challenge to a man so they gravitate towards a more docile personality type rather then expose themselves (also shortchange themselves IMO) to a more truly vivacious woman.

      • Christina says:

‘I don’t think she is the type of woman to ratchet up a man’s insecurities. Do you know what I’m saying?’

        Oh yes.

I definitely know what you’re saying. And you’re absolutely right.

      • Mazunte says:

I find her extremely sexy and pretty and I really like to see her on screen.
Scarlett has been one of my favorite actresses since Lost in Translation. I loved her in the 3 Woody Allen movies she did, especially in the two last ones. I guess I am a woman with a masculine mind. But honestly, I had to read these comments to know that some women do not like her. I thought almost everybody found her stunning.

    • V4Real says:

I think she’s a slight bit above average looking but I’ll take her over Blake Lively any day.

  25. Lily says:

I think she looks her best when her hair is pulled back, either that or she should really revisit her bob sometime – but she’s been looking good lately.

And I very much doubt she’s crying into her soup over that nobody her ex-husband married, what with being in the biggest hit of the year and all.

  26. Nancy says:

love her. she really is very pretty in a wholesome way, which i guess most people don’t like. she is a natural. can’t please all the people all the time, but she is very highly regarded it seems and will have a very long career.

  27. Memory30 says:

I just wanna walk up to her and rip off those sleeves lol and give her a little bit of more make up 😉

  28. pinchofsalt says:

She looks pretty. I like tats, but not hers. Spoils the entire look sadly.

  29. serena says:

I loathe her make-up (is it even there?) but the dress was pretty good.

  30. bns says:

I actually think she looks gorgeous here. Really natural and relaxed.

  31. lffme says:

She always gets a free pass from me since she got no sympathy when RR cheated on her with BL. Of course, she didn’t look for any and kept her mouth shut about it. But still, it has to hurt that he married his jump off.

  32. mimi says:

The dress and shoes look amazing. The only think I would change is the band- that should be lower- more towards the belly and that would give her a nicer figure.

Other than that- GORGEOUS and I would love love love to have the dress + shoes!

  33. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

Her face and limp hair look like sh*t. She’s not aging well either, judging by these photos. And I hate that tattoo! But, I kind of like the dress and the shoes are cute. So I guess I’m going with meh.

  34. A Fan says:

Finally, a good hairstyle and haircolour for her.

Now, can we talk about those shoes and that tattoo…and the colour white.

  35. citygirlsf says:

Agreeing with what Mazunte said above.

Although I’m not a Scarlett fan, I totally get the sexiness that she exudes.

  36. This list of comments has struck me as so negative it has compelled me to write. I really can’t believe how negative nearly all of the women who have posted in this stream are. I’m shocked! I’m also really disappointed that we live in a society where intelligent people find it easy to rattle off such hateful, snide comments about a member of their own sex. We’re all different! The sooner we let go of this idea of what perfection is, the happier we will all be. Some people obviously need to grasp that more than others! Embrace imperfection and uniqueness. Don’t be so cruel!

  37. savedbykittylitter says:

She looks very pretty and natural I like that rather than a clown makeup face A La Aguilera… love the dress

  38. Mazunte says:

    Comment in the wrong place.

  39. Ranunculus says:

Can’t stand her as an actress as she has very limited range and is never good in scenes. She is supremely annoying in interviews because she never stops talking. Dumb bimbo!

  40. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

She just has this soul less feel that you can see even in a photo like this.

I’m sorry, but she is a terrible actress! And that speaking voice! It’s awful. She’s gorgeous, even here, but it is skin deep with this one. She sucks.

  41. normades says:

She looks really tired here. Jetlag.

I think she’ll be good in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”. ScarJo doesn’t have great range as an actress, but she is good at playing the sexy tart like in “Match Point”.

  42. Dina says:

Why is everyone here knocking on her tattoo? It doesn’t take anything away from how she looks at all. You’re all so judgemental (and, I’m assuming, over the age of 40). I’ve got a full sleeve- tattoos are beautiful!

  43. sara says:

She looks gorgeous here, well she looks pretty always, in my opinion is the most beautiful woman in hollywood, talented and very intelligent. I just admire this woman.

She hasn’t a common body in hollywood, her face is lovely and so different with extraordinary and kissable lips , nice eyes, cute and well-defined cheekbones , sexy smile and all this make her be special.

I just don´t understand people who call her “ugly” , they should upload a photo of themselves, maybe they are the most pretty people in the planet, but honestly i don´t believe it.

  44. Anna says:

I think Scarlett looks gorgeous. She has a natural beauty and I love the no makeup look. the shoes are hot and the dress is lovely. Nothing overdone. Bravo!
