Did Christina Aguilera look occasion-inappropriate in her cleavage-y dress?

These are some new photos of Christina Aguilera at the State Department yesterday. Christina was being honored by the United Nations and the World Food Organization for her years of work with as a World Food Program Ambassador Against Hunger. Christina looked… sort of classy. For her, I guess. I mean, she looked much better in these photos than in those photos from the weekend, when she looked like a Booze Monster. One of my pet peeves, however, is when celebrities don’t wear professional-enough clothing when they participate in political events. I don’t think Christina’s low-cut sleeveless dress is entirely appropriate for the occasion. Oh, and there’s even a photo of Hilary Clinton looking down at Christina’s cleavage like, “Um, seriously?”go here to see. Here’s a summary of what went down:

Setting: Panel discussion at the State Department.

Cause: U.N. World Food Program

Bona fides: Four Grammys, judge/coach from team-singing competition show “The Voice,” longtime WFP booster.

Backup: Hillary Clinton; Yum Brands CEO David Novak; USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah; veteran journalist and GWU professor Frank Sesno.

What she wants: For you to donate 19 cents a day to help feed a starving child.

How she looked: Kinda sexy, but not inappropriately so. Deep burgundy dress revealing a bit of decolletage. Nude Louboutins with a silver toe. Braided bun showing off her pink and purple streaks.

How she sounded: Decidedly less dirrty than she used to. Touted her mom credentials — how having a 4-year-old has changed her perspective on the hunger crisis, reports our colleague Megan Buerger. “Being a mother . . . it’s a selfless act,” she said. “But why not these kids? Why not give them the same opportunities?”

Personal anecdote: On a recent trip to Guatemala, she visited factories operated by women with the assistance of the World Food Program. “It was amazing to see that women are building their own businesses because it really starts with that, a foundation to build from and pass onto their children.”

Distraction: So many plugs for Yum Brands (the conglomerate behind Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut, whose World Hunger Relief has raised millions for WFP).

Obligatory pop-culture reference from Secretary Clinton: “If I could sing, Christina, I would want to be on your team. But since I can’t, I’m glad you’re on this team.”

[From The Washington Post]

Sounds worthy enough. Good for Christina. Her work and her advocacy should be applauded. Minor bitchy thing: Next time she’s in Washington, I would just suggest that she wear a suit.

Incidentally, I don’t know if everyone saw this, but Christina’s rep denied that Christina said all of that stuff about being a “fat girl” to Billboard magazine. Apparently, the whole thing was a misunderstanding in which someone’s Tumblr falsely attributed these fake quotes to Christina, and everyone just ran with it. Apologies.

that’s about as classy as she’s gonna get I think..

  2. Elisabeth says:

I think she looks better a little heavier. she looks more normal. The scrunchie in her hair has to go

    • Kellybean says:

That isn’t a scrunchie. It’s her purple extensions.

      • victoria says:

HAHAHA i thought the same thing about a scrunchie, remember that sex and the city episode?

She looks good here for her. I agree, wear a pants suit if you want to look serious in Washington. I really would like to stop seeing her legs. They are not dress friendly. Reasons I keep mine covered.

  3. Hannah says:

I think the peck on the cheek with Secretary Clinton is just as inappropriate (particularly touching her neck). As for those pink streaks in her hair…

  4. Bluedog says:

Christina almost always looks “inappropriate”, doesn’t she?

  5. TheOriginalKitten says:

That pic of her and Hil is hilarious.

I feel like it’s just not good for her skin to wear THAT much makeup. The skin needs to breathe, Xtina!

  6. Rachel says:

I think she looks pretty good. About as good as it’s going to get. The color of the dress is nice. It has an interesting, yet sedate back. She could use a couple more inches on the bust, but it’s not as bad as it could have been. It says a lot for Xtina that my standards are “not as bad as it could’ve been.” The length is nice. It looks like it would hit below the knee when she’s standing. That’s a nice, respectable length.

  7. Kelly says:

Hillary, not Hilary. Sorry, I don’t normally care about spelling, but, well, she’s Hillary Clinton, so different rules. 😉

  8. Hautie says:

When a girl pays for her set of tits… she will spend the rest of her life, making sure everyone can see them. For free.

So Christina is never going cover them up. Ever. She paid good money for them… so she got to get her moneys worth!

  9. arock says:

I think her team decided the tits out look detracted enough from the eyebrows and purple extensions that they wouldnt have to hose her down and start gain.

  10. jamie says:

I wish Hillary would cut that long hair off ,makes her look really old!christinas boobs are not hanging out of her dress like they usually are ! lol so she looks ok

    • Umlaut says:

A chignon would do wonders. I love it when women wear their hair longer as they go gray, but it really needs to be pulled up.

    • Sassy says:

Hillary is delusional about her hair. She is much, much too old to wear her hair long. It drags her face down. The shorter chic style she sported when campaigning was much more flattering.

  11. Umlaut says:

She looks so orange next to Hilary.

  12. JM says:

Forget X-tina . . . Hillary actually looks pretty good here!

  13. Reece says:

Answer to title: YES! She didn’t even need a full suit. A well tailored jacket would have covered her more. Sheesh!

That aside her work for WFP is pretty cool. Good for her!

  14. Annie says:

The hair! It’s always the hair. Can u imagine how she would transform with a nice shiny brunette hairdo( real hair) . I wouldn’t even notice the makeup and clothes that much. At least it’s in a bun tho

  15. me says:

She looks gross. Too tight. Too low cut. She should cover her arms. Perhaps a stylish suit or a top with more coverage would have been more appropriate for this setting. She should see how Angelina Jolie dresses when she does things with the government. Looking professional is NOT about looking sexy. Considering how out of shape Christina is, I don’t know why she insists on always trying to look sexy. Like, give it a break once in awhile!

As for her hair, I have pink tips on my hair and the only way to quasi cover it up and not wave the freak flag is to stick it in a bun. I give her a pass on that.

  16. Missanne says:

Why can’t she ever keep her fake spray on tan off her hairline?

  17. Rhea says:

Well, at least it’s Hillary and not Bill Clinton who was standing next to Christina. His heart would not be able to hold the sight. 😀

  18. KellyinSeattle says:

A suit would’ve been a lot classier, but she’s not known for her class.

  19. Katie says:

I actually think she looks nice. It’s a little cleavagey but it could be far worse.

  20. Alexa says:

I think she looks cute. I mean, for HER – she is dressed more conservatively. Notice her hair is pulled back and her makeup colors are more neutral than usual. Would I dress like that for such an event – no. But I don’t usually wear makeup or dye my hair or dress in sexy clothes anyway.

    • Pollo says:

But she should’ve have dresses conservative for the OCCASION, not for HERSELF. Then I guess porn stars could show up in g-strings and bikini’s. You made no sense at all.

  21. JH says:

She looks good! It’s a demure look for her (the make-up and hair as well), so you know she’s trying to be respectful.

    • Pollo says:

If you think that’s demure, I’d hate to see where you live and who you surround yourself by.

  22. Hmmm says:

The color of her dress is really good on her – and actually blond in general. Nice. But the boobs is to in your face.

  23. Jezi says:

My only problem is, aside from the extreme cleavage, her makeup. The fake eyelashes look like spiders escaping from her eyeballs, her eyebrows are a weird color and shape. I like that the coloring of her makeup is toned down but those eyebrows really have to be fixed.

  24. Miss Lafleur says:

I think she looks hot and it’s awesome that she does many Things for different charities and organizations.

  25. velourazure says:

in the absence of covering them up entirely, she needs more spray tan on her vein-y knockers.

  26. mln89 says:

christina looks bloated and this dress is making her look like 10 pounds of sugar stuffed into a 5 pound sack. there is nothing wrong with body skimming and body concious clothing, but her outfit looks too tight and ill fitting, particularly in the bust area.

  27. Pollo says:

I think she looks swollen and fat. Like she’s constantly overdosing on sodium. There’s healthy fat, then there’s Christina. She honestly looks bloated. Of course it was inappropriate to dress the way she did for this event. It was definitely a pathetic attempt at attention. I mean, this girls dresses tacky and slutty everywhere she goes, and she didn’t know better than to cover up just that ONE day. give me a break. Once tasteless trash, always tasteless trash.

  28. Holden says:

That’s as strapped down as she gets, usually 95% of those veiny saggy nightmares is flopping out.

  29. lilred says:

Ha have you seen her on the Voice? This is way modest for her. She always looks like a drag queen who couldn’t find her shirt or pants before going on stage.

  30. palermo says:

She must have stylists or advisors to tell her that much cleavage is totally inappropriate for this occasion. These people are surrounded by “yes” men, that’s the problem

  31. Andrew says:

She missed a spray tan spot behind her ear. You can see it when she kisses Hillary. Anyway, most covered up I’ve seen her, doesn’t mean that’s a compliment.

  32. dcypher1 says:

She should still just own up to her fatness though shes probably in fat denial and drunk denial.

  33. Kar says:

Hillary looks amazing! Her hairstyle really suits her, I think it is RIDICULOUS that people think that they can define or dictate what is an ‘appropriate’ length of hair for any woman, regardless of her age. It’s 2012, who cares how old she is or isn’t, whether longer hair is better suited to ‘younger’ women or girls or whatever. She looks good, she’s powerful, she’s strong, she’s brilliant. That’s all that matters.

  34. Darth says:

Love Xtina, LOVE Hillary, so it’s such a treat to see the 2 of them together! And in the spirit of public service & the charitable work that both of these women have done for many years, can we just this once talk about them in terms of their intelligence, heart, and talents and not about their looks, weight, & clothing???
