Duchess Kate in an olive-grey Reiss coat, in the UK: boring or occasion-perfect?

I’m sorry if I don’t have a ton of stuff to say about these photos. I already blew my proverbial wad (gross) on the Duchess Kate-Crumpet-gate situation earlier today – go here to read my previous post. For the second day in a row, we’ve got Kate and William at a public event. These are their first events in nearly a month, after Crumpet-gate and their epic Asian tour. Yesterday, Kate wore a weird burgundy suit by French designer Paule Ka, at an event for a law school and a scholarship program. Today, Kate wore an olive-grey coat by Reiss, one of her go-to High Street labels. It’s a blah coat. I guess she tried to gussy it up with a shiny belt and boots, but it’s still an epically boring look, and she could do so much better (and still look conservative). Today’s event was in Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire, and it was for the Football Association. William is president. I was going to try to summarize, but my eyes glaze over whenever sports come up:

If she had been mugging up on the offside rule in preparation, the palace were being characteristically discreet. Fortunately the Duchess of Cambridge’s husband is President of the Football Association and was on hand to steer her through any choppy sporting waters.

In fact Aston Villa fan Prince William was in his element today as he and Kate, wearing a grey wool coat by her favourite High Street designer Reiss, arrived in Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire, for the official opening of St George’s Park, the FA’s new National Football Centre.

The 330-acre, £100m site is one of the most advanced sporting facilities in the world and is set to become the base for all coaching and development work undertaken by the game’s governing body. It will also be the training and preparation ground for all of the England teams. It boasts 12 world-classes pitches, state-of-the-art hydrotherapy suites, biomechanic gyms and video analysis amenities.

Today the royal couple were given a tour of the main facilities before meeting England manager Roy Hodgson and his squad as they train at St George’s for the first time ahead of their World Cup qualifier on Friday.

In a speech after being shown round the centre, William said: ‘‬Coming here this morning, seeing these wonderful facilities and beautiful surroundings – just experiencing this extraordinary place – gave me the same feelings I had when I first went to the Olympic Park. A mixture of pride that we are capable in this country of creating something so beyond compare anywhere else, and excitement at what this means, not just for our national game, but for sport and opportunity in this country as a whole.‬‪’

‘St George’s Park, and the concept that underpins it, is something totally new. It will be far more than just a world class facility for training our future world-beating national team. It is more than just the university from which thousands of highly qualified coaches will graduate. It is also a magnificent example of the sort of social initiative that brings opportunity and purpose to wider British life. It will provide employment and a social hub for local people and, through the thousands of volunteers on which coaching relies, it will foster community spirit, purpose and hope throughout England.’

[From The Mail]

Sounds… sure. Okay. It sounds like it was more of a “William event” than a “Kate event”. Kate seems incidental to whatever is going on – she was probably just there to support William. Because she literally had nothing else on her plate (maybe some shopping and a hair appointment?).

In the earlier post, some of you were claiming that there was definitive PROOF (!!) that Kate is now knocked up. I still don’t know. Now is when everyone claimed Will & Kate would finally start TRYING for a baby, but I don’t think we can offer Kate’s hand-positions as “proof” of her gut full of heir.

she have no grace or elegance about her look and no personality . she always give vacant smiles ,poor posture and no purpose on her visits. i find her utterly boring and blah.

  2. Reece says:

He literally has one suit doesn’t he?

*eye roll @ those boots* For reals?

    • GoodCapon says:

I do wish he’d change style more often, but his suits always look fantastic and fit him to a T. The Windsor men have very good tailors. Personally I like Charles’ style the most 😉

      • Reece says:

I should say, I think this suit is well tailored. Credit when it’s due. However, for the longest time his clothes, as well as Harry’s (still even) were hanging and sloppy. It was like this is who is representing your country! He doesn’t look put together. He is looking better lately. Maybe she’s spending some of their money on him. 😉
I definitely agree Charles always looks the best to me. He out does his sons by far.

  3. Brown says:

Love the color, but not really a fan of the overall coat. Also hating the belt.

  4. HoustonGrl says:

Honestly, I can’t tell if this is William and Kate…or their Wax replicas.

  5. RobN says:

I kind of love the coat and the boots. It’s the opening of a sports center, I’m not sure what she could have worn that would have been flashier and yet still appropriate. Look at the other people in the photos, how exciting do you want your clothes to be when everybody else is wearing a track suit?

  6. CarolinaBelle says:

    Yay!! No nude pumps!

  7. dooliloo says:

I keep thinking that hadn’t Kate been married to Wills I doubt that people would’ve found her that gorgeous. She really doesn’t strike me as a beauty at all, let alone the bland personality.
Well the coat is nice minus the croco belt. And her legs placement is funky funny odd in the first picture.

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

i agree about people’s point of view for william’s wife, she is not iconic or beautiful her position is . even snookie will be called style icon if she would be his wife.

      • blonde on the dock says:

Totally disagree. She’s beautiful and carries herself with class…..even on her own.

      • GoodCapon says:

Somebody obviously haven’t seen her nightclub photos and various upskirt incidents.

      • ANGELIC 20 says:

we can agree to disagree because i not going to start this topic again although i am sure you only knew about her after the engagement and i associate class with a person’s character not clothes and i find taking a former party girl seriously as my future state head . but i agree to disagree.

Love the coat look. Plus I’m thinking that it may be cold there not sure. Then again I think I like blah or drab colors and I hate being cold. All I know is I would sport the heck outta this outfit 🙂

    • bluhare says:

I love coats, and I really like this one. She looks great.

    • Kaye1 says:

I love this look also. I don’t know, I just don’t hate this woman the way a lot of other people do. I don’t feel like she owes me anything. I don’t care about how many appearances she makes or if she’s really “working” or not. Why should I care?

  9. India says:

I think she looks nice. Very appropriate. I don’t think she’s preggers yet. She loves her scrawny body and she loves showing it off to the world.

  10. J says:

I’d wear it! But like, I work in a call center, not as a constantly photographed public person, so it’s a bit different.

  11. Suz says:

Can someone explain what they don’t like about her boots? Lainey was bemoaning them and I noticed a couple of comments here.

I am old and out of it so maybe I’m missing something, but they look fine to me. Not exciting, but not hideous either.

    • TrollyDolly says:

I have 2 pairs of them, black and grey. I love them.

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

i don’t mind the boots either but i think people are critical about that because she is called a style icon by tabloids and these boots are so average ,so is her dressing sense ,dresses etc. they are not bad ,they are okay and she is not a style icon.

    • bluhare says:

I share Kate’s shoe philosphy. I buy shoes in neutrals and let my outfit do the talking. There’s exceptions, but mostly my shoes are black, grey, taupe and navy. I like good shoes and bags, so I’d rather spend money on neutrals I can wear a lot than flashy ones.

    • Reece says:

I personally don’t like those stretchy spandex boots at all. They look cheap. They look like slouchy boots but aren’t slouchy boots. I want to pull them up but I know they’ll slide down again. Otherwise you can’t walk.
They look like shoes with thick stretched up knee socks attached. Unless you’re at a roller derby or it’s Halloween you shouldn’t be wearing knee high socks. Openly. Under pants who cares but openly, No.
      They’re boot jeggings!

  12. GoodCapon says:

I didn’t recognize her with her clothes on.

  13. GoodCapon says:

I didn’t recognize her with her clothes on.

    And helloooo there, Stevie G!

  14. Jackson says:

Love the coat, not so much the belt.

  15. Lucky Charm says:

I think all the speculation about a baby bump is because her posture is very poor. When she slouches it pushes her belly out, making it look like she has a little bunion in the oven. And the hands covering it is probably because she’s self-conscious about it. If she would just stand up straight, shoulders back and tummy in, problem solved AND her clothes would look much better on her. (Speaking from experience as a tall woman.)

  16. Quinn says:

I love her out fit! Classy, elegant, and the boots are practical for walking around on the grass.

  17. emu says:

I love that coat! She could have picked a better belt to go with it.
