Duchess Kate is “freaking out,” she thinks “there’s a spy in the palace”

These are some new photos of Duchess Kate going solo in Newcastle, where she will be doing some events focused on education and science and civics. Fine, I’ll say it. Duchess Kate has a Belt Problem. Her Button Problem is well-documented (at least around here), and she also has a Hair-Touching Problem and an Eyeliner Problem. But we now need to acknowledge that Kate has awful taste in belts. Did you see the mock croc belt yesterday? And look at this giant gold-hardware’d thing. The belt completely ruins this beautiful plum-y coat. The coat is a repeat, by the way – she wore it last year, for an appearance at a church during Christmas. She did not wear a belt with it last year. I think the Belt Problem is symptomatic of her need to be so, so thin. She wants to emphasize her small waist.

Anyway, did you know that Kate has started getting super-paranoid? True story. At least according to Life & Style:

In the wake of the publication of humiliating nude photos — taken when Kate Middleton and Prince William were on a top-secret vacation in a private château in France — she and William, both 30, are convinced that someone in the royal household is leaking their private information to the press.

“Kate’s freaking out,” an insider tells Life & Style, on newsstands now. “Kate and William are paranoid there’s a spy in the palace who’s giving away their secrets,” the insider adds. “So much has been slipping out that it can’t be explained as coincidence.”

A full month after a French magazine published the first set of topless pictures, the scandal continues to grow. “There’s a report that a video may have been shot of them sharing some intimate moments,” the source reveals exclusively to Life & Style. “Kate is horrified about what else may be released.”

[From Life & Style]

It really doesn’t seem like Kate was “freaking out” at all about Crumpet-gate. Sure, she might have been concerned, but it really seemed like William was the one who was “freaking out” and Kate was just kind of like, “Meh, this too shall pass.” Now, could I be reading the situation the wrong way? Sure. Maybe Kate is secretly paranoid and she worries that everyone around her is spying on her and talking about her to the press. But I doubt it. As much as people try to make Kate into the next Princess Diana (for good or bad reasons), it’s just not happening. Diana was paranoid, sometimes justly so. Kate… not so much.

I hate that she belts all of her coats. Seriously, who does that? For all the money Prince Charles is spending on her clothing, Kate really just needs to bite the bullet and hire a stylist to put those outfits together.

  2. dooliloo says:

Not only the belt but she should ditch that pair of boots too! Who the hell is the Royal stylist? The Queen’s???

  3. Cathy says:

I kind of like the belt with the coat. Maybe with a different buckle it would be even better.

This story comes from L&S so I don’t believe the freaking out spy thing at all. I seen one of those magazines last week in a store that said she was definately pregnant, but I can’t remember which one.

  4. Chatcat says:

Maybe she’s not paranoid but simply pissed! What little privacy they may be able to find and some asshole in their employ has an agenda for some side cash by selling them out! I’d want to know who the little traitor is and do a public humiliation of him/her. HA!

As far as the belt, I don’t really think it’s that bad, she recycles so many of her outfits, and she is always photo’d, that she is trying to give it a different look. No matter what she doesn’t spend or does spend, what she wears or NOT, this poor lady will never get a break from those who just want to be haters of anything Royal.

    • The Original Genevieve says:

      Well said, Chatcat.

Haters will hate. Not much Kate can do about it but hold her head high.

    • bluhare says:

      I agree chatcat.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a mole in the house. Seeing as they lied about the trip, interesting a pap just happened to be in the neighborhood.

    • dooliloo says:

It’s not about hating her, there are days she has a nice style there are days she doesn’t. And not liking her style doesn’t mean hating the person, same as saying she has a bland personality, I don’t hate her per se, it’s the impression I get from her even though it’s possible she could be totally different in private. Now she happens to be a Royal well so be it.
      And hey… it’s celebitchy 😉
As for the possible spy in the house, well yes indeed I’d be pissed too, as it’s taking it a step too far; one doesn’t even know whom to trust anymore in its own house? Hell nawl indeed!

      • Zimmer says:

Kate is a striking woman, but if she would make a few changes, she could be downright gorgeous. Her extreme thinness has really started to get on my nerves,as I don’t think it is a good example for young girls, and like it or not, an example she is. I think the 3 Middleton ladies still believe in the “you can never be too rich or too thin, ” idea. I also think William likes her to wear her hair down and I think she does whatever he demands.

  5. lower-case deb says:

i understand the fear of spies and all.
but it’s a palace. it’s like a dormitory back in smelly old college, only posher.

  6. Mely says:

I like almost everything she wears, but here she looks like Captain Hook

  7. Kate (newer one) says:

That coat (which looks like cashmere to me) is gorgeous; why wreck it with a belt? It’s hanging all wrong now, the pockets are gaping. And it doesn’t even make her look slimmer as the coat weight goes out over the hips. I just don’t get why she doesn’t leave it as it was designed to be worn.

I have to say though, I admired her guts over those photos. She smiled and waved and did her job as though nothing had happened at all. If she does more engagements, too, then she’ll do fine. She doesn’t seem the freaking out type to me, either. Handily, given the life she’s signed up to living till she croaks.

I still think she needs a stylist, however. Some of her clothes are lovely, but others are grim, and she isn’t good at pulling looks together. And given showcasing the national fashion industry is part of her job, I think that’s a shame. But hey, what do I know; loads of people think she’s a fashion icon.

  8. Alexandra Bananarama says:

Her style is safe and not very impressive. It’s like she has an idea of what she wants to wear and gets it all a little wrong. Ofcourse, when she gets it right (hair up, light makeup, appropriate skirt length) she looks amazing.

As for no stylist.. I am positive somewhere in that palace there is a sewing kit and a person who knows how to use it so there’s no excuse as to why her outfits are not tailored.

Or maybe since all she self admittedly cares about is William approving of her he’s the one styling her?? She’ll dress herself until he gives the okay?

  9. MARIA says:

    I Need that COAT!

    does anyone know the brand/designer?

  10. Sandra Dee says:

Girl definitely needs to get her roots touched up. And is that a gray hair I see? Tsk tsk 😉

And the marks on the belt? She’s gone down 2 notches and she’s wearing it over a coat? Wow.

Regardless, I think she’s gorgeous and am impressed at how unaffected she’s behaved (publically anyway) over the whole “crumpet gate.”

    • Kellie says:

Thats why she constantly gets her hair done. Her hair literally grows out grey from her scalp, poor girl.

    • Liv says:

Maybe she’s actually pregnant and not dying her hair now? Ive never seen her hair like that before.

  11. emmieapricot says:

From far away the belt looks cheap and tacky but up close it looks rich and elegant – although it’s not necessary with the coat.

Her hair seems a little flat on top – like she’s not wearing as many extensions or weaves??
Here’s a good site about her extensions (if you’re as obsessed with her hair as I am!)
    http://www.enclave24.com/2012/06/08/was-kate-middleton-caught-adjusting-her-hair-extensions/#axzz26hdnRpsA

And btw, she looks amazing on the magazine cover!

  12. Kristen says:

I wouldn’t blame her. I’ve read that a Royal staffer may have leaked their location in France to the paps. Who’s to say someone wouldn’t plant a camera in her bedroom? Or anywhere she has an expectation of privacy? Can you imagine if we had a Hulk-type situation with the Cambridges?! Old Liz would lose her $hit

  13. Miffy says:

I don’t think Princess Diana was unjustly paranoid. Even after the divorce, the Palace kept a tight enough leash on her using her children as collateral. I’m sure they’re not above using the same methods to rein in any potential problems with the new pretty royal media darling.
I agree that it would affect William more than Kate. His mother was the royal conspiracy theorist, Kate doesn’t seem to possess the wit to be paranoid.

  14. India says:

She’s definitely not pretty in that last photo with those thin lips, bulbous nose, fake hair and maniacal grin. She had better get back to the plastic surgeon.

  15. Grace says:

Kate is correct. These leaks could not possibly happen unless an insider was involved. Is it possible that the Queen is so worried, for whatever reason, that Charles will not ascend to the throne and that Kate might actually really be queen one day? I do wonder how Camilla is these days.

  16. andy says:

she looks like santa with that coat and belt…

  17. Maggie says:

What she wears and how she wears it is her business. Everyone has their own taste and sense of style and how can another say “it’s wrong”. Would you like to have everyone comment on everything you ever wore? She’s never going to satisfy everyone, no one ever can or will. Leave her alone, folks

  18. AD says:

Her eyeliner isn’t too bad in these pictures! High-five Kate!

  19. Carolyn says:

There’s a spy in the Palace? There have been spies in palaces ever since palaces were invented 🙂

    • Sachi says:

      LOL so true.

Household staff talk, if not to people outside, then among themselves. All those secret passages in Palaces aren’t there only for quick escapes/hiding places. 😀

  20. Bren says:

Did anyone else notice how much these two Kates look alike on the cover of this mag ?

    • Luls says:

Yes, I’v always thought they resemble 1 another!

I daresay Kate Middleton is prettier though. Or maybe she’s just better groomed, dresses better.

  21. charlie says:

First, I don’t think Waity is freaking out at all. I suspect she actually revels in the attention (unlike Willy), and, to her credit, I just don’t see her personality as the freaking out type. Pre-wedding, all through her trials and breakups with Willy, she never flinched or showed any kind of emotional weakness — at least publicly. I really think she is one tough cookie with a lot of grit and fortitude. In this sense, as in no other, she will make good future consort material. She appears to float above what others would consider debilitating scandal as if it has nothing to do with her.

Second, I agree with Kaiser totally on the belt problem. With almost everything she wears, she wants to showcase her legs and waist. The vast majority of her clothes have belts or detail at the waist to show off how skinny she is.

  22. JulieM says:

Spy in the palace? Perhaps. Maybe they are just pissed off that she’s lazy and tipped the paps off to yet another holiday.

Good to see her out and about doing something, however.

  23. Frayed_Edges says:

It looks like they’ve photoshopped her nose on the front of that magazine!

  24. India says:

Kaiser! You forgot the most problematic of all, The Button Problem!

And the gold belt is ugly.

  25. coconut says:

looks like she’s let out the belt a couple of times…she’s gaining weight in her mid-section??

  26. Suze says:

Probably a few spies in the palace, as there always have been. There have been stories leaked about the royal family for years.

I don’t know that it will harm her. I don’t think there’s rampant Kate Hate outside of a few internet areas. Most of the main stream press is still in love with her. And crowds line up to see her.

And she did handle crumpet gate well. Did her duties, smiled, appeared to enjoy her hosts on her Pacific trip.

  27. Loulou says:

The belt shows she’s gone up two holes judging by the marks on the suede. The top button on her coat strains…pregnant? The boots have been worn so much, they look deformed. I detect one or two grey hairs in the second pic where there’s a hint of roots too. Now I’m just picking.

  28. Savanna says:

I love how a “palace insider” is talking about how Kate is worried a palace insider is leaking information.

    • charlie says:

Good catch, Savannah! Of course, it’s all BS. I’m sure Kaiser knows that too; she just wants to write about it because this is, after all, a gossip site.

  29. The Original Mia says:

So…a palace spy? Interesting. Is that why she’s gotten off her butt and done some “work” this week? And by work, I mean getting dressed to go out to shake hands and grin maniacally for an hour before hoping back into her car & heading home. I’m sure there are several spies within their household reporting back to the Queen, the PM, anyone opposing the monarchy, etc.

  30. LeslieM says:

Except for that straining button I think she looks great.
