@midnightmoon: Damn. Parents can be vicious when they’re expressing ‘concern’, my mother’s term for it is ‘encouragement’. For the most part, her complaints haven’t been about weight, but promise me, that doesn’t mean she lets me breeze by in a state in perpetual blithe grace–so that leaves everything else. She’s only recently called off the dogs where my height is concerned (I have two sisters who are half a foot taller than me) if we take one example of her attitude towards my looks. It’s too damned late in the day to rattle off a greatest hits, so let’s migrate to Papa-Ville and find out what he said when he ran into me after having not seen me in almost eleven years. ‘What did you gain all that weight for?’ I have revealed the shame of a nation on this thread, for you see, Friends, Neurotics and Self-Flagellants, I–*sniff, sniff–forgive me, please, for I gained weight between that time when I had just turned fifteen to the day when I saw him and was almost 26. I have to do some amount of exercise to keep an hourglass figure on a 5’0 frame from shattering and forming a new beach on the spot and all of that endorphin crap they slug at you (oh, I do it, because I want to be responsible about my health, but that ‘runner’s high’ malarkey, I’m just immune), but there’s something of a blessing when people go out of their way to be so pointedly cruel because you hit this moment of clarity that reveals that putting your quality of life in the hands of people who have a mind to treat it with malice forethought are crazy. People get victimized but you try not to take on the ‘perpetual victim’ mentality, the bullying won’t make the swim any easier, but it’ll give you motivation to resist giving up and drowning. You’ll be right, you’ll have navigated through something huge and feel relief that accompanies accomplishment. I remember the first time someone told me that you’re going to be dead before you get those apologies because each side of the conflict feels entirely justified and will in the heels deeper if you’re ‘attacking’ them, or some junk. Anyway, like the saying goes, ‘A sorry isn’t a fur coat.’

ummm. obesity is certainly NOT celebrated in the usofa. i have been overweight and obese since college (now finding out gluten has been the problem, so i’m a-fixin’ it at age 55, after 3 decades of horrific suffering and 10s of thousands of dollars of doctor bills), and i can vouch for the fact that skinniness is still the norm in terms of what people’s ideal is, and that anyone over a size zero gets crap. look at the uproar over the girl in the hunger games (jennifer ??), who is accused of being fat.

so, please do NOT generalize, and please do NOT shame thin women OR fat women, or any size in-between. i think it better to pay attention to whether a person is healthy or not, and if they are not, then gentle encouragement works way better than an anvil over the head.

i spent three days with my mom, who is whippet thin. i take after my dad, his Swiss heritage. i am willing to do ANYTHING to heal the horrific joint pain i’ve been suffering from. after two weeks of changing my diet for the umpteenth time, with my husband’s support, i have lost only 5 pounds, but look 30 pounds lighter because the swelling is disappearing. my mom sees the changes, but she STILL accuses me of having ‘no discipline’ because i went with her and my dad and my husband to a local restaurant and ate, HORRORS! an actual MEAL. i can’t ever win with her. i never will. i get it. i can only do this for ME. and i am doing it.

and in six months, i shall be a totally different person, and all the damn rabbit food will have been worth it.

and any judgement from anyone else can just take itself out with the trash, because NO ONE KNOWS WHAT I HAVE DONE, what i have been through, and what i shall do, except me.

It’s funny how many thin women in the public eye are labelled as having an eating disorder.

In these pics, particularly the third one it is very evident that Danielle does not have an eating disorder.

Guess what ladies, there are some of us who take the time to eat healthy and stay in shape. Size 14 is only the norm in the US where obesity is celebrated.

Thanks for sharing this article – I’ve always been a huge Crowe fan and always felt he was misunderstood. The article seemed honest, trustworthy and sincere. It was, however, written from one man’s point-of-view, so it still needs to be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, it was definitely an eye-opener and if it’s all true, he’s an unbelieveably insecure, self-absorbed, insane f*ckstick.

Josh Charles is not Jennifer Connelly’s baby daddy. She had a kid with a guy before dating Josh, and then after her and Josh broke up, she got together with her now husband Paul Bettany and had a few more kids. No kids with Josh, though.

This makes me sad all around. I realize Crowe seems like a prick and has a volatile personality. No excuses but he and Spencer had known each other since they were young – she knew what she was marrying. When they married it seemed like they really were bonded in their love for each other and their common passion for music. In any pic I’ve ever seen of her she’s never looked comfortable in the public eye – no judgment on her – she just seems like a private, quiet person.
Love him or hate him, Crowe is a huge talent with an equally huge personality and obviously has problems with his temper – an issue no one should be the victim of and I’m sure she’s been a angel and a patient saint in that marriage when it comes to his explosiveness. I think he loves her very much – she seemed to have grounded him. I feel very bad for the little boys and the whole family. I hope he doesn’t go off the deep end b’cuz of this.
BTW the bitch-fighting b/w the Aussies and Kiwis above was frickin’ hilarious!
