Marion Cotillard covers Dior magazine: stunning & gorgeous or boring?

Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard covers the first issue (Fall/Winter 12.13) of Dior Magazine, which is essentially a special, frothy catalogue only handed out to those who frequent Dior boutiques, but at least the photos have been released. As such, we now can all drool over the iconic pieces of from Dior past that Marion is wearing in the shoot. These outfits are positively sumptuous, and I know that Marion and Dior are both French (and not Russian), but this particular shot reminds me of how I always pictured Anna Karenina at the ball.

Marion Cotillard

Of course, Marion looks positively lovely in all of these pictures, but I can’t help but wonder how much better she would look without her mouth hanging open. It’s a pet peeve of mine.

Marion Cotillard

Marion has also starred within a mini-documentary that shows the process of the photoshoot and some more behind the scenes stuff from her handbag campaign. I’ve never understood her as an actress beyond her Oscar-winning turn as Edith Piaf, but I’ve really only seen her Hollywood stuff, so perhaps I cannot judge in that regard. Marion does make an excellent model though:

Here are the rest of the shots from the magazine. She’s so bloody gorgeous here.

She looks like she’s in pain

  2. vixo says:

These outfits are never boring. She looks stunning!

  3. marie says:

she is always beautiful to me, not a fan of the black dress with gloves though.

  4. Adnovitam says:

She’s supposedly magical in person, but even with Rust And Bone winning a gong at the London Film Festival, I don’t find her a compelling actress. Pretty boring but works a lot. Go figure.

    • ScottishGirl says:

Watch her in the French movie ‘Love me if you Dare’! (you can find it with English subs) She is an amazing actress when you see her in her native language!

  5. gee says:

I want to look like her in my next life.

  6. Mia says:

I really liked her in Inception. I always hear that song in my head whenever I see photos of her haha

  7. Catherine Paris says:

These are lovely. I think she really is a great rep for Dior. Mila just doesn’t have the look like Marion has for this label. I would love to have all the clothes from this photoshoot.

  8. OhDear says:

She’s gorgeous, though why is her mouth open in every shot?

  9. Jessica says:

    She’s lovely.

  10. neareeman says:

i think you missed a photo in your post : the one in grey, it’s in the thumbnail below/ a gorgeous but dated ensemble

  11. Jessica says:

Something about her reminds me of Drew Barrymore…anyone else see it?

  12. Micki says:

    She’s beautiful and photographes exceptionally!
    I love the red coat

  13. pretty says:

And why am i not surprised that she is covering her one eye in cover.

  14. Roo says:

She’s gorgeous, and the clothes are stunning, but you’re right about the mouth thing. ???

  15. eileen says:

Crazy gorgeous. Oh to look like that!

  16. smith says:

Marion is usually so beautiful, but these pictures are ridicolous, with her mouth open like that.

  17. Christina says:

Funny you should say she looks like Anna Karenina. Cotillard (or Rachel Weisz) would have been my choice to play that role. Certainly a million times better than that awful pouty non-actress Keira Knightley.

And can I say at well that Marion is the type of model Dior should keep hiring. THIS is the kind of thing posh Parisian fashion houses are all about. Not the grubby looking Mila Kunis or bland Jennifer Lawrence. This.

  18. Nev says:

    The clothes are divine.

  19. bns says:

I love these. Glamorous and old school.

  20. RN says:

Fantastic clothes on a beautiful woman. Oh, I do miss the past, when an elegant appearance was expected. Let’s put one of these pictures next to one, of say, Christina Aguilera.

    • jani says:

Agree completely. I HATE the sloppy, skanky, bolt on boobs falling out of strapless dresses, crappy clothes that are 2 sizes too tight, grunge retro, etc., looks that so many celebs, with zillions of $$$$ and their pick of stylists, are now wearing. I miss Audrey Hepburn. I miss Catherine Deneuve as the face of Chanel.

I also love gloves. These pics make me very happy.

    • Shoe_lover says:

I agree with both of you but i always dress like it the 1940’s, 50’s or early 60’s. heaps of my girlfriends do too and one of them has almost the exact same outfit shown in the header picture but her hat isnt made of cane.
i just love vintage fashion although i still admire the art of some modern day designers

  21. mar says:

I m OBSESSED with this woman!!!!!!

    She is so freaking gorgeous!!!

  22. LakeMom says:

At first I thought it was Kate Winslet with dark hair.

  23. Eleonor says:

    Those clothes are pure elegance.
I wish I could wear something like that, even for one day.

  24. videli says:

Marion and Rachel Weisz are the only women whose physical beauty give me pangs of envy. Just for a few seconds though. And the clothes are beautiful.

  25. manta says:

Even with the annoying mouth thing, all of her pictures are more “high fashion” than any shot of Kate Upton.

  26. A. says:

The photos are very nice, though, I don’t find her especially beautiful, just pretty. As an actress, again, good but not brilliant.

I do agree that it’s nice to see some old time glamour (my mother’s era, that’s what these photos remind me of)so, that’s nice.

  27. j.eyre says:

I keep coming back here to look at the clothes. I may bookmark this for when I need a pick-me-up.

  28. Mara says:

She is beautiful and a very nice actress .

  29. dillene says:

The “mouth-hanging-open” look is an old fashion trope. You’d see it in glamour shots in the 40s and 50s. Something about it breaks up the line of a square jaw and widens the eyes. Try finding a glamour shot of Marilyn Monroe with her mouth closed.

  30. Diana says:

I don’t know what is it about her that rubs me the wrong way, but I really don’t like her.

  31. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

She looks beautiful in these photos, I especially love that cover shot. But I find her so dull and lacking in charisma as an actress.

  32. Elle says:

I’m always a huge fan of Marion with the berry lips. She pulls them off so well. Beautiful woman.

  33. dj says:

    Now this is FASHION!

  34. LittleDeadGirl says:

Love her and love the photo shoot. So much old world glamour. I love my jeans but somedays I kinda wish people dressed like this all the time.

  35. JH says:

These photos are perfection. She is so gorgeous and the clothes are pieces of art.

  36. xoxokaligrl says:

Somebody should have told her to close her mouth, its a high fashion label people not an adam and eve website.

    Clothes are amazing though.

  37. normades says:

Amazing Dior “new look” shot. She is so beautiful but I think she is a much better actress in French than in English.

  38. animac says:

    boring

    same open mouth pose

    tres passe

  39. snappyfish says:

    she looks incredible.
