There is crazy R&D in cores, components, aero, rubber compounds, fuel, oil, and making the lightest car the fastest. There were spending caps implemented because with the right budged (coughFerraricough), you could spend upwards of a billion dollars per season, with unlimited CFD modeling, testing, and cores. The fans are more technical, since they generally want to understand what makes one team faster (because it's not always about drivers). It's a little more difficult to understand some of the stuff that goes on with F1. Stock cars are cool and I respect them, but F1 is where you blend sex appeal, technology, engineering, innovation, and worldwide appeal. It's not just Europe - it's South America, Latin America, Europe, Asia...the US is really the only place that never subscribed to it. It's just like soccer. Tom Cruise, Paul Newman, Patrick Dempsey...no one calls it downgrading when they want or wanted to go driving, or Chris Hemsworth/Ron Howard when they wanted to be involved with an F1 movie. On another note, can we get a copy of the documentary shown in Austin? I was there for the race but didn't arrive till Thursday night. F1 IS a big flashy deal. So many actors do voice-overs and narrations. It's nothing to turn your nose up at. And it's for reasons like this that my moto-crazy boyfriend and I can share a "couples crush!" on Fassy. It's a docu, you need to give credibility by hiring someone who are knowledgeable or reliable even if he's not really an authority on the subject. So why should this be a downgrade.
