Cosmopolitan Magazine fabricates Scarlett Johansson interview

Scarlett Johansson is on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine in Britain, with an accompanying interview in which she talks about her relationship with husband Ryan Reynolds. The only problem is that Scarlet’s quotes are completely fabricated, according to her rep.

scarletnottrueOn married life:
“This is a very beautiful time for me. Getting married is a huge moment in anyone’s life, and the few months leading up to it were a little crazy.”

“But Ryan and I are in love, and we’re enjoying evolving our relationship together. I feel that my life and my work are heading in the right direction.”

On meeting the right man:
“It’s either they don’t want to commit or put in the effort, or they’re too involved in their own thing,” she says. “You don’t always meet the right person at the right time, and I think it’s important for people to figure out their own lives before involving someone else – to gauge where you are and work on your own issues.”

On romance:
Reynolds, she says, “has a very romantic side. We both enjoy remembering little things that made us happy – for me, that’s what romance is all about.

“My mom is a romantic person, and I think I inherited it from her,” she continues. “She’s very thoughtful and taught me there are many different ways you can be romantic.”

The most romantic love, Johnasson adds, “is seeing people who’ve been together, or who’ve known each other, for a long time – like two best friends, or a husband and wife who’ve been together for 50 years, and are still so excited to see that person come home.

“It might be rare,” she points out, “but that’s the most romantic kind of love.”

Turns out, that is a big fat lie, and Cosmopolitan made up the entire interview. Scarlett did not break her infamous silence about her relationship, or even give an interview to the magazine.

Her publicist has now slammed the magazine, insisting journalists were not granted an interview with the star and that the article’s context is completely false, according to E! News.

A statement released by the actress’ spokesperson says, “(The article is an) obvious attempt… to gain monetarily by misinforming their readers.

“(Johansson) has at no point granted U.K. Cosmopolitan an interview, and she has never discussed her personal relationships with the publication.”

The representative also refers to an interview the star did undertake with the magazine’s U.S. counterpart in September (08), in which she spoke of her intentions to keep her personal life private.
Johansson told America’s Cosmopolitan, “I hate feeling like I have to share my personal life with anybody. So I’ll take the normal celebrity route and just say I’m going to keep my personal life private.”

The spokesperson adds, “Ms. Johansson, who goes to great lengths to preserve an authentic representation of herself with respect to her fans and the media, is disappointed to see a seemingly reputable publication inexplicably publish a work of fiction at her expense.”

Cosmopolitan is obviously using this interview and cover photo to sell more magazines, as Scarlett’s rep mentions. During these hard financial times magazines are one of the first things people stop buying to save money. Obviously Scarlett’s cleavage isn’t going to sell that many copies of Cosmo (FHM might be more successful with her) and they felt the need to use her marriage to shift their product.

This isn’t the first time Cosmopolitan has made a mistake of these proportions. In November the Australian version featured a cover story about how fabulous Britney Spears is looking lately, but used a photo of her from a 2003 Esquire photo shoot.

Fabricating these stories take a huge amount of credibility away from the magazines, and when they are found out I’m sure it will affect sales in a negative way. It also implies that the featured celebrities are not interesting enough in their own right.

Scarlett’s rep says that legal action will be taken against the magazine.

Why buy magazines when you’ve got celebitchy!! 😛

  2. BLA says:

Ouch. How do you think they are going to get out of this one? The sad thing is I think a majority of Cosmo UK’s readers will never know the entire thing is fake. At least they didn’t make her fake quotes admit to anything outlandish. 🙂

  3. seVen says:

Cosmo is nothing but recycled “sex” tips anyway…. ” slowly and gently touch his back door” …. blech! How many times can you rewrite the same sentence using different words in different places? I hope she sues the shit out of them and their backdoor touching selves.

  4. geronimo says:

Lol seVen! “..slowly and gently touch his back door…”

Not that I care one way or another about another bland celeb interview but how stupid are Cosmo to do this? Did they think she wouldn’t notice or maybe wouldn’t find out about it since it’s here in the UK and she’s all the way over there in the US or something?? 🙄

seVen, that made me spit my coffee on my keyboard!!

  6. Frenchie says:

This interview was irrevelant, and true or false, all of them are. The celebs lifes might be different to ours, but there feelings aren’t.

  7. ff says:

Heh, well they made the mess they’ve got to clean it up.

Seriously though, Scarlett and Ryan don’t talk about each other in the press. In fact if didn’t read this blog I wouldn’t even know they were married.

  8. Kasey says:

Haha. Comsmo are idiots!Did they think Scarlett wouldnt say anything?

  9. Kink says:

I just don’t get it, who is the idiot that actually thought no one would find out? I hope she sues them and puts them out of business for good. Magazine and newspaper format is dead anyway. They’ll all have to convert to internet or die.

@Seven: Exactly why it’s also known as ‘coozmo.’

  11. Sue D. Nimm says:

Is it me or does the person on the cover look nothing like Scarlett Johansson?

*continues squinting at computer screen* 😐

  12. vdantev says:

I’m both amused and sickened that Cosmo has a magazine aimed at teenage girls. As if poisoning one generation of women wasn’t enough. Their editor never will answer my emails inquiring where my 13 year old can find articles on “Your Orgasm Face” or “The Best Sex Positions EVER” in CosmoGirl.

  13. Christina X says:

The fabricated version’s pretty boring. I don’t want to imagine the “real” version.

    Zzzzz…

Cosmopolitan’s as big a heap of garbage as Rolling Stone.
