Jennifer Aniston to appear on Courteney Cox’s crappy new show

Jennifer Aniston was noticeably absent at last night’s Golden Globes. Everyone was wondering if she would show up and how she would handle it if she ran into Brad and Angelina. At least she can revel in the fact that her rival Angelina couldn’t even manage to act happy on the red carpet.

I didn’t see Jen’s good friend Courteney Cox there, either. Now the news is that Aniston is going to make a guest appearance on Cox’s critically-panned new FX series, Dirt:

Former Friends costars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox are going to share the small screen once again – but this time the pals will play rivals on Cox’s new FX drama, Dirt.

Aniston will appear on the show’s March 27 finale as Tina Harrod, a rival magazine editor to Cox’s character, Lucy Spiller.

“We’re shooting this Thursday – I can’t wait,” Cox told PEOPLE on Monday. “We’ll have a ball. We’re just going to have fun.”

This appearance will mark the first time the friends will have been on a show together since Friends went off the air in 2004.

From most accounts, Dirt is a rather humorless show, and people speculate that it will be cancelled soon. Cox herself doesn’t seem too enthused with it, and didn’t do that well in a promotional session for the series at the Television Critics Association. It might not be the best idea for Aniston to make an appearance on what could be the last episode.

Update: Thanks to Kellie and Diva for pointing out that Courteney Cox was a presenter at the Golden Globes. I should have watched the whole thing, but there’s just too much going on at our house this week.

Nice to see somebody giving Jen some work….

  3. Diva says:

Courtney was there with David… they presented together…. and she seemed pissy and unhappy to be there.

All of these people in show business need to stop taking themselves so seriously.

  4. ugly chinniston makes me puke!!!

  5. Viv says:

I really never understood the popularity of Friends and the cast. It seemed to me to be such a mediocre show with average looking people with below average IQ.

When I saw the promos for Dirt I was pretty excited but it just didn’t do it for me.

  7. Jamie says:

Love the new Drrt show!!! Addictive, alot like Nip/Tuck. Also, I read somewhere that it was FX’s highest rated premiere ever. More viewers than any other show on the network…including Nip/Tuck (which is an awesome show).

Just wanted to leave my opinion on the show.

Jamie, I am in Switzerland or I would have watched Dirt to see if it was decent. I wish I could watch more US shows to have an informed opinion on them. 8(

I’ve never understood the Jennifer bashing.

  11. kailie2 says:

I’ve never understood the Jennifer appeal. It seems to be marely the flipside of the hatred directed at Angelina. I don’t think anyone would care for this no-talent, no-looks and no-personality TV girl if not for that. Before the divorce I didn’t care either way but dislike her now mainly because of all the nasty name calling directed at Angelina… Jennifer hardly registers and the same thing will happen when she stars in this crappy show–if it’s not cancelled before the season finale. The only Friend with a real talent is Lisa Kudrow and she’s not getting any shows.

  12. celebitchy says:

Have you seen Studio 60 kailie? That show with Matthew Perry is really well done. It’s like West Wing on a variety show set. Perry has talent too I would say.

  13. FF says:

I have to agree on the Lisa Kudrow thing, she’s the only one I’ve seen show any versatility, and I’ve liked her stuff outside of Friends.

I don’t know about Matt Perry, he might be a cool director or producer but I’m not sure if people can accept him onscreen if he isn’t delivering sharply observed witticisms.

That’s the problem with the most of the Friends cast, very few of them seem able to breakout of the pigeonholes of those roles.

It is partly because the audience won’t let (i.e. accept) them (in other roles) but it’s also because they haven’t succeeded at doing roles that are startlingly opposite in any convincing way (minus Kudrow).

  14. Mr. T says:

I’ve seen Dirt, and it does nothing for me. CC is not a great actress. Neither is Chinnefer Maniston. Face it, if Chinnefer had a decent movie talent she’d never do a TV show. Oh wait, she’s FRIENDS with Courtney Cox-Sucker. FRIENDS sucked.

  15. countrybabe says:

Viv, I think only three on the friends were funny. Even the people who don’t like Jennifer have to admit. She and Joey, and Lisa kudrow were the the best of that show. We could do without the others. I bet NBC looks at what they paid those people and wishes they would’ve done what they are doing now for profit.
Coutrney Cox is a mediocre actor, the same with Matthew and David.

  16. Jamie says:

Okay, so I can’t believe that you guys who like celebrity gossip don’t like the show. It’s all about celebrity gossip…only steamier.

  17. Viv says:

Countrybabe, you’re right. I liked Lisa Kudrow’s reoccuring part as the waitress in Mad About You.

  18. Michelle says:

I wanted to watch that show dirt I didn’t know it already came on already how did it do? But anyway untill Jennifer gets a serious role in a movie and plays the role off really well she will never be consider a serious actor. At least CC had a serious role in “Last Summer”. I don’t watch that show with perry in it. Is that still on?

  19. kailie2 says:

I LOVED “Friends”.. the show, not any particular actor. Dirt lacks the energy, good writing and funny characters Fiends had. The actors got stuck playing those roles for too long–you get the celebrity status and the money but it’s almost always at the expense of your artistic development. Dirt doesn’t really work as a drama and Cox is overdoing it, trying hard to give it an “edge” but without giving it some humor. She obviously doesn’t take any advice or criticism or the show wouldn’t be so bad. Perry is a decent actor and I think he has a chance of making it outside of Friends if he keeps doing what he’s doing. I’m astonished Lisa Kudrow doesn’t have more success.

  20. Cece says:

I suspect people havent given Dirt a chance other than watching the first episode. In my opinion, it is a wonderful show and it actually is funny. Pople are saying that the show needs more “funniness”, but the thing is that the show is not a comedy, it’s a drama.

Courteney is doing a wonderfull job along with all the other actors on the show.

So, before you make more bad judgement about Dirt with only watching the first episode, watch it again, it just gets better and better.
