Turner Classic Movies’ touching tribute to those we lost in 2008

Don’t watch this clip if you don’t want to cry. I’m one of those people who cries at commercials, but I think this very moving tribute to the people in show business we lost in 2008 will make almost everyone tear up. There are a lot of actors and actresses here I didn’t remember passing this year. It makes you realize during the holiday season how important it is cherish the people you love and keep your family close.

Here’s the full list of people honored in this clip, thanks to Fark. They’re not in order of appearance if you’re following:

This video montage is dedicated to the people from the film industry who have passed away in 2008. The song is “God Only Knows” by Joe Henry. Here are some of the people who left us in 2008: Earle Hagen Eddy Arnold Edmund Hillary Estelle Getty Evelyn Keyes Gene Galusha George Carlin Giuseppe Di Stefano Guillaume Depardieu Harvey Korman Hazel Court Heath Ledger Heather Stohler Huntington Hartford Isaac Hayes Ivan Dixon Jason Rae Jeff Healey Jill Adams Jim McKay Jo Stafford John Law John Stewart June Travis Abby Mann Alexander Courage Allan Melvin Andy Palacio Anita Page Anthony Minghella Antonello Zara Arthur Clarke Barry Morse Bernie Brillstein Bernie Mac Bettie Page Beverly Garland Bo Diddley Boyd Coddington Brad Renfro Charlton Heston Christian Brando Clay Felker Cyd Charisse David Groh Dino Dvornik Dino Risi Dody Goodman Kenneth Keith Kallenbach Lee Grivas Lois Nettleton Louisa Horton Margaret Truman Mitch Mitchell Nina Foch Odetta Holmes Ola Brunkert Ollie Johnston Paul Benedict Paul Davis Paul Newman Paul Scofield Pete Candoli Richard Widmark Rick Wright Robert Prosky Ron Leavitt Rosafina Gonzalez Roy Scheider Ruslana Korshunova Sean Levert Stan Winston Stanley Kamel Suzanne Pleshette Sydney Pollack Tiffany Sloan Tim Russert Van Johnson Vampira Maila Nurmi Warren Cowan Yma Sumac Yves Laurent

Some commenters note that Estelle Getty is on the list, but isn’t shown in the film for some reason.

The academy won’t be able to top this clip. RIP, and thanks for all the years of entertainment.

So sad. And even more poignant when you see them all in a list together. I’m still shocked seeing some of these names – Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Guillaume Depardieu, Isaac H, Bernie M. All that amazing talent gone. RIP to all.

Wow … that had to be one of the best I’ve seen, can’t believe how many legends passed this year .. God Bless Them All.

That was beautiful. And very sad, but touching. I salute TCM for being classy and not making a mockery out of such tragedy. 2008 was certainly a sad year for Hollywood, all the legends who were lost, and those lost beofre their time.

Wow. We lost some wonderful people this year. Some passed on due to time but some like Health Ledger were tragic. We will never see his full potential.

Beautiful but very sad. Paul Newman, Brad Renfro, and Heath Ledger were the most tear jerking passings for me. We lost so much talent this year!
