Bristol Palin’s future MIL arrested on multiple felony drug charges

2008 Republican National Convention: Day 3

Former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced her then 17 year-old daughter Bristol’s pregnancy in September shortly after she was named John McCain’s running mate. Responses varied from shock and allegations of hypocrisy to understanding and support.

Bristol is said to be due to give birth any day now, and she is engaged to her baby’s father, her hometown high school sweetheart 18 year-old Levi Johnston. Johnston has a ring finger tattoo that reads “Bristol,” and told reporters he was planning on marrying Bristol before they realized she was pregnant. Alaska governor Sarah Palin has said that she hopes her daughter Bristol gets married sooner rather than later.

Sarah might be re-thinking her desire to have her daughter married quickly, now that this latest news is out. Levi’s mom was busted on multiple felony drug charges after an undercover investigation. From the way this article is worded, she was either making drugs – probably meth – or dealing drugs:

A 42-year-old Wasilla woman was arrested Thursday at her home by Alaska State Troopers with a search warrant in an undercover drug investigation. Sherry L. Johnston was charged with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, the Wasilla 18-year-old who received international attention in September when Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, announced their teenage daughter was pregnant and he was the father. Bristol Palin, 18, is due on Saturday, according to a recent interview with the governor’s father, Chuck Heath.

Troopers served the warrant at Johnston’s home at the “conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation,” said a statement issued Thursday by the troopers as part of the normal daily summary of activity around the state.

Troopers charged Johnston with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance — generally manufacturing or delivering drugs — as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession.

Troopers released no other information, including the kind or amount of drugs, because details could jeopardize an ongoing investigation, spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

Asked how long the investigation had proceeded before Johnston’s arrest, Peters would only say “a while.”

That’s got to look bad for Governor Palin. It’s not like it’s her fault that her daughter’s future mother in law was a drug dealer, but what kind of family would her daughter be marrying in to? Bristol is pregnant with Levi’s baby and it’s not like she’s going to be able to avoid his family even if their relationship doesn’t last. Maybe she’ll be bringing the baby to jail to see Grandma.

Alaska is a HUGE meth area. I wouldn’t doubt if the cops were tipped off by spiteful democrats. Not that she didn’t deserve to be arrested — but it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

By the way – my husband is a recovering meth addict and it is the devil’s drug — worst thing on the planet as far as I’m concerned.

    RUINS PEOPLE’S LIVES.

And, you’re being quite the cold hearted smart-alec imho. Just because her future MIL got busted for this does NOT make her a bad person or insinuate she’ll be taking her baby to jail to visit grandma.

  2. Anon says:

I think the point is that it’s hard for a family to act holier than thou when things like this continue to happen. I don’t think that anyone is insinuating that this is Gov. Palin’s fault, but it certainly doesn’t speak very highly of the state or family, not to mention that she is the Gov of the state with an apparent raving meth problem. Honestly, I think we should all just hope that Bristol and the baby stay as far away from whatever it is that’s happening because that’s what is really important.

  3. Trillion says:

I’d love nothing more than for that family to fade back into obscurity.

And Susan, if you don’t want snark you should probably avoid this site. “Bitchy” being the operative word in the title here…
I definitely agree with you on meth. It is the devil’s dandruff.

It’s weird to me how meth is so popular in non-urban places. Like, is there so much to do in the Mojave desert that you need to be super-awake for 112 hours?

  4. Dorothy says:

Palin must have been told by the Police which is probably why the kids have not been married yet, this is Palin’s way out so that Bristol does not have to marry and she has a pretty good excuse!

  5. sparkle1 says:

This Sarah Palin clusterf*ck is just the gift that keeps on giving. Seriously, she’s anti everything that not right wing Christian conservative and then, whoops — my unmarried teen daughter is pregnant. Whoops — I got a little carried away in Saks. Whoops — my unwed teenage daughter’s future MIL produces meth in her bathroom. You couldnt script this . . . .

  6. Exiled says:

How is it Sarah Palin’s clusterf**k I’m not pro-Palin, but how the HELL is this her issue? I didn’t have any control over my Aunt being an alchololic than Palin made her future in-laws do or sell meth

    Give it a rest already.

  7. mel says:

Are we suprised??? And she’s wants her daughter to be married so that her baby can have her baby’s daddy’s last name? OMG…LMAO!

  8. breederina says:

@ trillion, too effing true !
And thank you Jeebus for the Palins and the gift that won’t stop giving. Makes me just grab the popcorn and sit back to see what will happen next ! (would not be dissapointed if it involved polar bears, mauling, and Sarah Palin exclusively)

  9. what is ever. says:

    @trillion

To my knowledge, which isn’t all that much when it comes to meth, but when you’re making a drug like that, which is very chemically volatile, you run the risk of huge explosions- so wide open spaces lend themselves to meth labs more easily. Also, it’s a drug that can be made out of cough syrup, and many other OTC items- so literally anyone can get their hands on the stuff to make it.
My parent live in Vegas, and while visiting them I popped into a Walgreens, freaking Pantene was behind the counter…PANTENE!! I agree Susan, Meth is a very dirty drug.

  10. rottenkitty says:

I’m so glad that while Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin was so busy watching for Putin’s Giant Head floating in the air space above Alaska, that she was able to ignore the fact that her future in-law was selling/making drugs.

Boy, she sure is on top of things.

  11. Susan says:

All the palin haters — are you without fault? Nobody is. It just makes you feel good to see someone who stands up for conservatism have problems too.

Not a very humble or compassionate attitude.

  12. A.J. says:

If I was about to be related to Sarah Palin, I’d need to be on drugs as well.

  13. jess says:

@mel…she doesnt have to get married to levi to have the baby have his last name. my bf was never married to his son’s mom but he still has his last name…

  14. Annie says:

Well, in all fairness, you cannot control the actions of your in-laws.

However, you should have enough and know enough about your own daughter’s life that you know who she’s interacting with. And if she’s going to marry into this family, you should have already met the boy and his family.

I’m just saying, that when I was her age, my mom made it a point to meet my boyfriends AND their parents, so that she knew what was up.

  15. Alison says:

You can’t hold it against Levi or Bristol. Never judge a person by their family. We all have relatives we wish were different, right?

  16. morgs says:

You don’t need wide open spaces to produce meth. Jesus, most of it in NorCal is produced in the kitchen of a single wide. We see pictures of hazmat teams in the middle of a neighborhood. The making of meth smells, so some people will absolutely go off the grid. But meth heads are usually so paranoid they want to be as far away from people as possible.

  17. Michelle says:

Jinxy, you sound rather classy yourself!

  18. bros says:

totally was meth. wasilla is the meth capitol of alaska. white trash family alert! we almost had the ewell family in the white house.

  19. MC says:

While this may not be directly connected to governer Palin, she certinly put herself in a position to be critized. While governor, she was a staunch advocate of abstinence only, with no other option in sex education and her unwed teen daughter became pregnant. Her husband has at least one DWI conviction, no college education, and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA. She is a young earth creationist, which due to its belief that the earth is only 6000 years old, shows a complete lack of critical thinking and judgement. While preaching on a platform of morality, she was showed be be at fault in the troopergate scandle, and her antics after the election were quite unbecoming. This is just the tip of the iceberg, she is a real champ!

  20. Kaiser says:

At first I thought meth, but it could also be some kind of Oxycontin ripoff…

The article just puts so much emphasis on “controlled” substances, it makes me think prescription drugs.

  21. alaskagrrl says:

Wasilla may have a HUGE meth problem, but don’t bring down the whole state! Wasilla is the armpit of Alaska. Wasilla brought us Sarah Palin, the rest of Alaska wants nothing to do w/ her.

Maybe she was growing pot. Everybody up here smokes the organic yummy yum. Let’s not jump to conclusions so quickly.

  22. boomchakaboom says:

Honestly, this is ridiculous. If Sarah Palin had no idea her daughter’s future MIL was into drug manufacturing/dealing, then she’s just not paying attention. Maybe she should stop gazing at Russia from her bedroom window and pay more attention to her own backyard, so to speak. I recall Bill Clinton being hounded to no end over his brother’s idiotic behavior, and Jimmy Carter over his brother’s harmless but not sophisticated beer drinking habits. It’s not like Palin has nobody inside the police force to do a little investigative work for her. She sure put a lot of effort in having her former brother in law checked out. Stupid.

  23. Susan says:

Anybody who stands for conservative values puts themselves in a position to be criticized.

Because perfect living is unattainable and those who have strong morals and speak out on TRYING to do the right thing are ridiculed.

Especially when something happens in their lives.

Just because you have things happen in your life/family — shouldn’t stop anyone from what they believe in.

Because the media is so liberal – it is always laughed at when a conservative makes a mistake. Simply because liberals feel everyone should live that way to begin with.

  24. Trillion says:

Easy on the kool aide there…

  25. Bodhi says:

    No kidding, Trill

  26. dovesgate says:

Actually, there are tons of things to do in the Mojave Desert when you’re high as a kite. I live in the High Desert and while I don’t use, I can see the potential.

  27. prissa says:

That’s the point Trill, there isn’t much to do and that’s one of the reasons why drugs are rampant in those types of areas. A drug like meth or crack can keep you preoccupied for hours on end. Don’t have anything to do? Get high. It takes your mind off of everything else and you’re still doing nothing, but it seems like you’re doing something (which you are – drugs). I don’t know if that makes sense but it’s true.

  28. prissa says:

Yeah, but the only problem with that rationale dovesgate is that meth is a paranoia enducing drug. You’re not going to find meth users out enjoying the High Desert (a bud smoker, probably) If anything they’ll be in the basement, the closet or under the bed wondering when “the men” are coming for them. Been there done that. Although (thank God) it wasn’t meth. I was in California for a good 3 weeks and went to the beach for maybe 15 minutes, then it was straight back to the hotel to keep getting high. Same for when I was in Vegas, Colorado, Washington State (although I did make it to the Space Needle! The sirloin beef tips were divine!! :0), etc, etc… Sad to have missed out on so much.

  29. Jess says:

    That there is high qualitaayy!!

  30. Tori says:

There is such thing as responsible drug use. Not all drugs are bad m’kay. Not all people who use drugs are bad. You can actually learn quite a bit about the world and yourself when they are used responsibly. I credit them with helping me to become the compassionate person that I am today.

  31. Leandra says:

The stink rubs off on Palin. She’s part of the whole redneck, hick culture surrounding her there in Meth Town. Bristol’s future MIL’s idea to “blow off steam” as she said after being caught for drugs was to go moose hunting. Maybe Sarah rode shotgun in the helicopter and got in some good aerial shots of the exhausted running animals.

  32. dovesgate says:

Actually prissa, I used to be a meth user. I just no longer use. Paranoia is a side effect but it depends on how much, how often, how long, and the quality. It doesn’t happen when you first start using. It didn’t happen for me at all and I used for years. The ones I knew that were paranoid, were the ones with the blacked out lights at their houses and they were out in the yard with their night vision binoculars.

We used to go out to the riverbed and camp… well, hang out all night at a firepit we built and get spun and drink. We’d dance like madmen and mosh and fight and screw and all sorts of stuff. Once in a while we’d rent a hotel room and play cards or draw or something else more laid back and mellow. We’d drive to the beach or go to the fair or whatever we wanted.

The same stuff could be going on out here in the desert and no one would know. Its not like smoking a joint where you have the smell of the smoke in the air. A quick chop to form the line and a sniff with a rolled up dollar bill and you’re good to go.

  33. Cheyenne says:

“Spiteful democrats”?! ROTFLMBAO!!! I knew somebody would try to drag the Democrats into this. Next thing you know somebody will say Obama made her do it.

  34. vdantev says:

    Ha-Ha!!

  35. boomchakaboom says:

If you live in an area where there’s nothing to do, there are alternatives to drug use. For instance, you can focus your attention on self improvement, i.e. physical exercise. Jogging, aerobics, meditation, etc. It’s not that hard to do. It may seem boring and all that, but it beats the hell out of the “thrill” of skirting the law and subsequent jail time. It has the added benefit of giving you peace of mind plus mega endorphins. Drug dealing and/or manufacturing of same with the excuse of “there’s nothing else to do” is a cop out.

  36. Dubdub2000 says:

LMAO!!! Oh, this is just better than anything on tv!

The GOP knows how to pick ’em!

    LOL

  37. snappyfish says:

what happened to the grand wedding?

  38. kate says:

every time i look at the palins i hear dueling banjos in my head. not that my family is much better, mind you – but then again we aren’t deluding ourselves … we KNOW we’re white trash!

  39. boomchakaboom says:

Spiteful Democrats kills me. If Chelsea had been an unwed pregnant teen, God knows how the Clintons would have been drug through the mud if not literally drug behind a vehicle. Stop with the liberal this, conservative that. Hell, conservatives wrote the book (or several books) outlining steps on how to demonize those wicked, immoral Democrats, all in the name of morality. Pleeeeze. The shoe doesn’t feel so good when it’s on the other foot, I guess.

  40. czarina says:

I find it difficult to believe that NOBODY was aware of this when Palin was running for VP. Wouldn’t someone from the Republican camp have vetted EVERYONE even remotely close to the possible-future-VP?

  41. drm says:

@ Susan…Let me understand this…”spiteful Democrats”….right, the woman (no matter WHO she bloody is) is manufacturing and dealing in substances which WRECK lives and you are worried she was turned in by “spiteful Democrats”…

  42. drm says:

    @sparkleone you couldn’t have said it better…

It IS Ms Palin’s clusterf*ck because she holds HER family up as some sort of ‘example’ of Christian holiness to us ALL! So much so that she figures she is just the kind of person to help lead your country!!!

The Bible says it best “you reap what you sow”

  43. vdantev says:

Seriously? Hate to break this to you Susan, but it’s not the fault of the ‘liberal media’ or the democrats she was making meth and got caught. Get real.

  44. MT says:

Excuse me, but how does it say anything about the young couple or Sarah Palin?

I know a great guy who is a freind of mine, that has the mother from hell.

He is the nicest guy ever, smart, honest, decent, a good friend and would never hurt anyone, and his mother is like the devil.

Does it mean we should all judge people by their parents?

I hope you don’t judge anyone based on their relatives.

  45. vdantev says:

MT: Excuse me, but how does it say anything about the young couple or Sarah Palin?

Sleep with dogs you wake up with fleas. If this woman were connected to Obama in the same fashion, the GOP be screaming for his blood.

The GOP didn’t bother to do any research on their VP candidate of choice, they just wanted a Hillary-esque foot soldier who would look pretty and tow the party line without interfering with the ‘big boys’ who would be running the show. Their desperation and lack of foresight delivered the candidate they deserved.

  46. Rosebudd says:

I am all Irish & come from a family of genetic alcoholics. (Not that Irish are the only alcies.) I think this youn man shld. have the opportunity to straighten out & fly right w/o being judged by his mother. Where is his father? Not a good life for Levi, but he is not his family. My dad was an alcoholic & I chose to marry a good man who never drank, lives healthy & is an attorney. I didn’t even go to college. Give Levi a chance… I’m not crazy about Palin because she wants to PRAY THE GAY AWAY. Those are her beliefs. I have three immediate family membera who are Gay/Lesbian, including my daughter. She was BORN that way as was my brother. At least Palin is back in Alaska and might have learned & reconsiderd her conservative beliefs.

  47. breederina says:

Huff Post is reporting that the drug in question was oxycontin aka ” hillbilly heroin “. Guess Grammy Johnston won’t be doing much baby sitting this coming year.

  48. h00bydice says:

Whew, we dodged another bullet here, people…that she and/or any member of her family would be embroiled in such a colossal mess just speaks to how dysfunctional the Palins are!! She can’t preside over her own family, how the heck was she supposed second chair a global office!! That woman’s life reads like a damn rap song – sure as hell is entertaining, but you wouldn’t wanna live it!!

  49. Monica says:

I love how conservatives always imply that liberals have no values.

“But if by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.” -John F. Kennedy

  50. lindsay says:

LoL @ Tori … m’kay? were you trying to sound like Mr Mackey there? 😉

I think that Sarah Palin could have at least checked out who her daughter was about to marry. Not saying that just because his mom did this, that he is a bad person.. but I know a lot of druggies, and the ones whose parents are into it, are the ones who end up effed. They never learn the difference between right and wrong, in regards to drug taking (or making). From what I have heard, Levi is no saint. Neither is bristol for that matter.

I dont’ know why I am surprised, i always figured Palin wasn’t a very good parent.
