Why in the world are Gerard Butler & Mel Gibson hanging out in Miami together?

I’m not sure what’s going on in these photos. My gut is telling me that this isn’t some kind of “Oh, Mel Gibson and Gerard Butler just ran into each other at some restaurant” thing. Fame/Flynet describes the pics as “Actors Mel Gibson and Gerard Butler enjoy some time together in Miami Beach, FL on February 2nd, 2013. After lunching with a beautiful lady, Gibson stepped out with Butler and joked with each other as they move through the crowds.” ??????

So what does this mean? My first gross thought was that they like the same kind of women – Mel’s post-divorce ladies have been leggy brunettes with wide mouths (better for Jucuzzi beejs?) and Gerard definitely shares that type too. So is this a “like-minds” thing about their ladies? Is that enough to build a friendship with a violent, woman-beating anti-Semite?

What worries is me is that it seems like Mel and Gerard are partying together often enough nowadays – TMZ had photos of the two of them a few nights before, just two dudes hanging out in Miami, eating steaks and cavier and drinking sake. Which is still alcoholic, right? Both Gerard and Mel should not be drinking sake. At all. You know what really worries me? The idea that Mel Gibson may have reached out to Gerard Butler to try to “sober-coach” him and help him out, like Mel did with Robert Downey Jr. And Lindsay Lohan. Mel as a sober-coach? With sake? Ugh.

They’re both dickheads, that’s why. And Gerard Butler has just slid up a mile in the skeevy ranking. Didn’t think it was possible, but apparently…

  2. C.Lynn says:

There have been lots of tweets from Miami about these two. They’ve been spotted dining and clubbing together for the last several days. One club they went to, they didn’t leave until 6 am.

    • #--# says:

And there were tweets about Dicaprio, Jonah Hill, Halle Berry hanging out with him. WTF????

      • Eva says:

Yes, Mel Gibson, Leo DiCaprio and the neighbor serial killer too… all was at the club on Saturday. there’s even photos and comments of Leo and BCoop “supposedly flirting with an ugly girl” lol

  3. Bad Irene says:

Douche ships passing in the night, ugh

  4. RocketMerry says:

    I just re-watched Braveheart.
Aside form the many, many historical inaccuracies of that movie… I have to admit, the film and his crazy, blue eyes really have some magic quality that easily kind of win one over.
    Maybe Mel/Wallace bro-seduced (bro-duced?) The Butler?

    • keats says:

I love that the only way a lunch with Mel Gibson would be bearable is if he showed up in character.

      • RocketMerry says:

They may take our lives but they will never take our freedom!!! Pass the salt, Gerry, please, would ya?”

  5. brin says:

    Boozehounds of a feather….

  6. Bored suburbanhousewife says:

Gerry’s got his man bag with him. Possible movie project together in Miami? Deep discussions about William Wallace and Scootish history?

    • mata says:

Actually, I was wondering if Mel is trying to get Gerard to do his viking movie. It would be the closest role to Butler’s 300, and he really hasn’t had a huge hit since that one. The viking movie could potentially be a comeback for both of them. It’s the type of movie that Mel does well (epic and entertaining, if historically inaccurate), but he needs people that are willing to risk their own reputations to work with him. Butler needs a hit and doesn’t have much to lose….Or they just like boozing and carousing together.

      • Bored suburbanhousewife says:

This is entirely plausible. Randy Wallace, who wrote Braveheart, is working on the script, plus Gerry was also in a pretty interesting ye olde version of Beowulf back in his early hot days.

Seems like a natural vehicle for Sarsguard as well. Perhaps they could offer him unlimited free Mexican beer.

  7. Ms Kay says:

Well, a violent, woman-beating anti-Semite can have friends and mates, no matter how horrible he is. That’s a reality…

    • Kelly says:

I’m sure he has some redeeming qualities. It seems to me that his problems stemmed from his drinking. He did try to help people so it’s not like he doesn’t have a heart. I know that he did things that seem unforgivable but what if he’s really making an effort to change his ways? What’s a person supposed to do after they make a mistake? Just accept that they’re a bad person bc no one will ever forgive them?

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I just can’t with the Gibson Apologists.

It wasn’t ONE “mistake”…beating women, drunk driving several times, angry and racist rants…
I’ve never accidentally launched into a racists tirade nor have I ever “mistakenly” beat someone.

Maybe the guy is just an a–hole, period.

      • Pandy says:

Totally agree Kitten. Notice Mel isn’t out helping “little people” downtrodden? Only other “stahs”.

      • Izzy says:

EXACTLY, Kitten! Alcohol lowers your inhibitions. You could end up saying things that, sober, you would know better than to say. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t think or believe it though. I think his anti-Semitic rant was just his true colors shining through. And they are the colors of douchebaggery.

  8. Kimbob says:

I think it was yesterday I read about these two carousing around & drinking, then one of them waxing on about how great sobriety is while he was still half-cocked (CDAN).

These two are not a good combo. Not good for each other. Mel needs to start hanging out w/Jodie F. again. This isn’t even funny.

And yes, sake is very much an alcoholic beverage. Back in my drinking days, I used to love going to a local Japanese restaurant, getting tanked on lots of sake & very little food….ugh. Glad it’s the past.

  9. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

The chick in the background looks like Xena the Warrior princess on a mission.

    • Chordy says:

Yes! In my mind she’s part of a secret, woman-protecting underground society working her way up the ranks. She’s just a ground agent right now, but if she can keep Mel & Gerry from harming any women during their little bro-collabo, she gets promoted to squad leader, and she’ll report directly to Geena Davis.

  10. Faye says:

Actually, I could totally envision those two together. Birds of a feather . . .

  11. Elceibeno08 says:

Both of them are grown men and they can do what they please. They might end up on a three-day booze-fueled bender with hookers. Who cares?

  12. Aud says:

To me that looks like a man-date (not in the x rated way). They’re friends.

  13. Lolly says:

A match made in douchebag heaven

  14. mln76 says:

    Soulmates ewww

  15. Mia 4S says:

I think it’s quite possible that Mel met him through some “sobriety” thing, it seems to be a thing with him. But ummm, nightclubs and sake guys? Yikes.

It sounds strange but I have always hoped that Gibson is fighting some severe mental illness as opposed to just being as vile as he seems. It would explain his friends and would allow me to enjoy his earlier movies. I find it almost impossible now. Probably not the case though because why hide it? I would have sympathy for someone with mental illness; but addiction doesn’t explain being a racist/sexist/anti-semite douche. Nope. *sigh* I miss the innocent Lethal Weapon days.

Butler? Who knows! If it’s true you stop maturing at the age you become famous he was a 20 something law student. He seemed to regress if anything.

  16. LadyL says:

I’ll take Mel Gibson over Roman Polanski any day. Hollywood runs overseas to work with a child rapist, still praises him as a genius and gives him their highest accolade- the Oscar.

The industry has no leg to stand on.

    • decorative item says:

Same for me with Woody Alan. He seduced his simple minded step daughter, sexually exploited her until she got too old, then adopts another girl who perfectly fits his sexual preference.

      • Garvels says:

I completely agree. I thought what Polanski and Woody Allen did was so perverted and unforgivable and Hollywood seems to give them a pass. If Hollywood can give those two a Pass then they should have no problem giving Mel a pass for his drunk fueled tirades.

      • Pandy says:

Good points. Those two pervs do get a bit of a free pass, don’t they? I don’t think European exile is much of a “sentence”.

      • cubfan34 says:

Soon-yi was not Woody’s step-daughter and she has a masters degree.

      • sunny says:

Soon-yi was Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter, so it was kind of like she was his stepdaughter. It was weird, period.

      • cubfan34 says:

Mia and Woody never lived together and Mia has said he paid little attention to her children. He wasn’t a father figure.

      • taxi says:

Mia & Woody maintained separate apts across the street from each other. Their son considered
        Soon-Yi his sister.

    • V4Real says:

I’m on board with what all you guys are saying. Mel gets a pass b/c he did or still is suffering from alcoholism and some form of mental illness. It’s easy for the public to throw stones at him b/c of his public rants (yet not keeping in mind that those outburts were made while he was under the influence of alcohol). I do not believe he is a racist or homophobe. I said it before and I will say it again; until I hear him spew that kind of language when he is sober, I will not believe those are his true feelings. I bet anyone who has been drunk before has probably said things they didn’t mean to say and they didn’t mean what they said.

If he is such a homophobe why would he be friends with Jodi Foster and RDJ for that matter b/c Jodi is a lesbian and RDJ is bisexual. Also if he hates Jews let’s not forget that RDJ is part Jewish and his marriage to Susan was a Jewish ceremony which Mel attended.
Lastly, it’s been rumored that since his divorce Mel has even dated African American women.

      • Dawn says:

I agree with you. Well said. Too many people in Hollywood still love him and I don’t know anyone who is perfect, not even on this site. If you have yet to stumble in your life, don’t worry you will. So easy to be judgmental and throw stones but remember that has a way of coming back to you. Just saying.

      • Donnie says:

Let’s remember.Alot of straight men tolerate lesbian women but HATE MALE homosexuals. Alot of white guys may be turned on PHYSICALLY by black women but wont marry them….and absolutely DONT tolerate black men. I KNEW someone who was dating a black woman but absolutely FLIPPED when his litte sister started seeing a black guy! Racists homophobes and sexist are very contradictory.

      • V4Real says:

        @Donnie

Yes yes, I’ve heard that before and you could probably switch it around and say a lot of black women are turned off by Black men dating and marrying white women. But we are not talking about others we are discussing Mel. If Mel is tolerating Jodi only because she is a lesbian woman, then why is he tolerating RDJ who once admitted that he was bisexual. You’re argument is not valid. In the gay and lesbian community an attack on one, is an attack on all. I’m sure if Jodi felt that Mel was discriminative against a gay man it would affect how she felt towards him. Also he is accused of being anti-semitic but his friend RDJ is also part Jewish and RDJ wife is all Jewish. Do you believe that these three people would tolerate such bigotry from Mel if they thought that’s how he truly felt?

      • Moore says:

What you say when you are drunk is what you think when you are sober.

      • Donnie says:

To V4Real: I think my arguement is VERY valid. Why Jodi is friends with him I dont know.Whoopi Goldberg defended him too at one point on the View. They are both Scorpios and Scorpios tend to be loyal to their friends to a fault. But both have worked with him from what I remember.Of course Mel isnt going to be dumb enough to say certain things when it means making money with a person.Look at Howard Stern! No doubt in my mind that he’s a racist but people feel that because that black woman Robin is on the show and cackles to almost everything he says that he isnt. But think about it.If she wasnt on that show theres NO WAY Stern would get away with the kind of remarks he has gotten away with for years! He would have been practicully blacklisted the way Dom Imus was! As for Robin-hey-she making lots of money isnt she? As far as Mel’s Jewish “friends” you’ve heard predujiced folks befriend a “few” of their choiced objects of dislike because theyve felt they were “different.” I myself have been unfortunatedly surprised and hurt by so called friends I thought were liberal companions when it came to race but was taken aback when they came out with bigoted statements in certain situations. People who dont think hatred in their hearts dont come out wiht the kind of things Mel Gibson has said. And lets not forget his professor father who is/was also a racist and from I remember claimed the holocaust never happened.Alot of people may has some biases towards other folks because of the world we live in but down right racism is something thats taught. Good job Father Gibson!

      • cubfan34 says:

Mel’s brother Andrew is gay. He has been out for a long time and not shunned by any of his family.

      • V4Real says:

@Donnie Now we are supposed to believe it’s becasue of star signs people stick together, that’s laughable.

You mention Stern and how he’s a racist b/c of I’m guessing the things he says on his show. Stern’s attacks all races equally. But why would you point out Stern’s antics when many Black comedians make racist jokes about White people on the regular and pass it off as just being funny. If you’re going to use Stern in your debate, then let’s keep the playing field even. But once again you are going off topic, I’m only talking about Mel at this moment, not other racist Black or White people.

If you’re going to use the argument that Mel’s father is a racist so therefore he must be one, that’s not good enough either. I know people Black/White/Hispanics who’s parents or family members are prejudice but they don’t share their families ideology about race. Racism is taught but many people have learned to think for themselves and not follow the belief of their ancesters.

Also the comment you made about “people who don’t have hatred in their heart don’t come out with those kind of things Mel Said’ how can you speak for an entire universe of people? Another thing if you have ever known someone with some form of mental illness, they do have a tendency to spew things they don’t mean. Have you given any thought to the case that Mel just might be bi-polar as it has been stated before. No, right. People are so ready to pass judgement b/c all they listened to was the nonesense that came out of his mouth (released by the media who I’m sure had Mels best intentions in mind, sarcasm) during his drunken outbursts. Mental illness on top of alcoholism is a beast.

Now if you’re going to say that some people have some bias towards others, I can agree with that. But most of that just comes from stereotyping. Can you honestly say that you haven’t made assumptions about people of a different race?

@Moore my grandfather use to say a drunk man speaking is a sober man talking but I learned that this is not always true. I have said things to friends that I know in my heart I didn’t mean while sober and while tipsy. I never spewed anything racist but this just goes to show that we are only human and we do say things we don’t mean sometimes. If we never said anything we didn’t mean there would be no need for the line I didn’t mean it.

@cubfan4 I didn’t know Mel’s brother was gay so according to these posters Mel hates his brother as well.

One of Mel’s rants when he was arrested for DUI was that the Jews started the war. I didn’t know George Bush was Jewish.

      • Clarity says:

Nearly all people in the entertainment biz, from actors to directors to shock jocks, are suffering from narcissistic personality disorder, or are full on sociopaths.

Their behavior is inexcusable no matter how much money they make for themselves and their respective industries.

Polanski, Stern and Gibson are definitely in the sociopath spectrum. imo

    • Loulou says:

Words never killed anyone. It’s the ones that don’t rant that people have to be apprehensive about… I have no issue with Mel, other than not sticking with his wife who was the best thing that ever happened to him.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

“It’s the ones that don’t rant that people have to be apprehensive about”.

        Huh???

Yeah I’ve gotten REALLY drunk before and no, alcohol didn’t magically turn me into a racist homophobic. I was still me, just a bit louder and passed out early.

    • Gracie says:

Did Polanski not deserve to win the Oscar for “The Pianist” because of his past mistakes, no matter how heinous? Whether or not you think he is a moral person or not, he deserved to win best director. The film is brilliant. If we judged artists and their work based on their moral compasses,Vincent van Gogh, Charlie Chaplin and Woody Allen would be blacklisted. And no,I am not some crazed apologist for perverts!

      • garvels says:

No he did not deserve to win. Hollywood has this way of selectively ostracizing those actors and directors who don’t fall in line with their politics. Polanski and Woody Allen are politically aligned with Hollywood so they could get away with murder and still win awards whereas Mel Gibson is a moody independent admittedly flawed character who gets the boot. The only thing Polanski should receive is a jail sentence for drugging and raping a 13 year old girl…….but maybe that is in vogue these days in Hollywood.

I apologize for the tone but I really have a problem with perverts like Polanski and Wood Allen.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah Gibson really should have been smarter about keeping his antisemitism and homophobic behavior on the down-low if he wanted to have a lasting career in Hollywood. Not the sharpest tool in the toolshed, this one.

Although I would assume that it’s not just specific to Hollywood, but rather many industries that frown upon racism and prejudice. I know that I would prefer to keep racists and misogynists out of my small office, that’s for sure. Not only are they an EPLI lawsuit waiting to happen, but they’re not good-hearted people in general. I prefer to limit my exposure to assholes, if possible.

Then again, I guess Mel Gibson is no worse for the wear right? While many have forgiven Polanski and Allen, here is Gibson: still getting projects, still friends with other celebs, still being defended by many posters on this board. Looks like he got away with his shitty behavior with very little ramifications to his career, really.

      • Katie says:

When has Mel Gibson said anything homophobic? If you’re talking about that interview from 1991 he could have changed his views since then. Most people were homophobic in 1991, unfortunately. What did he say about Jewish people? That they were responsible for all the wars in the world? Some people say that religion in general is responsible for the wars in the world but we don’t call them racist. I think he’s pretty shitty for beating his wife though.

      • cubfan34 says:

In the interview were he did not speak too kindly of gays, he said when he was in drama school he used to get hit on by gay men and when he told them he was straight they would continue to after him. This did not make him happy.

But they quite openly say they have quit drinking.. ah.. hard core buddy intervention by over indulgence of the vile addictive substance that plagues them is the totally sober solution.. Prior experience with alcohol: A longtime, heavy drinker may achieve blood alcohol concentration levels that would kill the average casual drinker. Conversely, a novice drinker may have severe symptoms with the ingestion of a moderate amount of alcohol. As a person’s drinking increases, his/her liver will increase its capacity to metabolize alcohol. In addition, the brain of a heavy drinker becomes used to frequent, even constant, high blood alcohol concentrations. This habituation in a heavy drinker can backfire if this person suddenly stops drinking. The person may go into alcohol withdrawal and develop seizures or a condition called delirium tremens (DTs). Drink until death by intoxication.

  23. TheOriginalKitten says:

I hate when people like Polanski and Woody Allen are brought up on a post about Mel Gibson. The aforementioned two are not good people and neither is Gibson.

“These two people are worse!” is never a great way to defend someone’s atrocious behavior and it’s a common tactic employed by Chris Brown-defenders, Polanski-defenders and Woody-Allen defenders just as much as Gibson or Sheen-defenders. They’re all dickheads, ladies, just because you happen to think one dickhead is cuter or a better singer or shares the same political stance as you, does not make him any less of a dickhead than the others.

I’ve known plenty of alcoholics and people who abused drugs and at the end of the day, they were still good people without a hateful bone in their bodies. Alcoholism does NOT turn people into racist, hateful lunatics, the predilection for anger and abuse has to exist in the first place in order for alcohol to exacerbate it.

A racist, misogynistic abuser is slightly less bad than a pedophile? Ehhhh…they’re both pretty awful, guys. How about we just refuse to defend fuckery of any kind, hmmm?

They both have a thing for golddiggers from the Eastern part of Europe that’s why and Mel had a hard time getting rid of his but he did so I bet anything the Butler wanted out of the clutches of his leech and asked for Mel’s advice. Mel is also a respected producer/director/actor in spite of his antics and could be a movie deal in the making between his and given the fact that some of Mel’s movies have done very well, could be a very good business move for the Butler.
