Anne Hathaway, a winner in black Burberry at the BAFTAs: stunning or boring?

Here are some photos from last night’s BAFTAs in London, obviously enough. Anne Hathaway continued her awards season sweep with a win for Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables. For the English red carpet, Annie went with this rather beautiful Burberry gown. You know I love Burberry though – it’s one of my favorite labels these days. I love the cut of this gown, I love the cap sleeve, I love that she wore a jazzed-up version of a simple, classic black gown. I love the mirrored stud-things (or whatever they are). Anne’s hair and makeup wasn’t as bad as it was in Berlin earlier this weekend, but I feel like her hair might have already peaked, right? Right now we’re looking at the awkward hair descent, where she’s trying to grow it out and do something different with it and it’s not very good.

Amy Adams lost to Annie, and Amy was also in black. This is Elie Saab and I’m not crazy about it. Here’s the thing about the BAFTAs – they’re the coldest event of the whole awards season, and it’s a perfect excuse for celebrity women to break out the sleeved gowns. I just don’t like the effect of these sleeves and that weird half-sheer lace on the bodice. It seems more like a negligee than a gown. Not a fan. But I do love her – she’s so adorable.

I may not like AnnE Hathaway but i really like her dress….there i said it! Hell did not freeze over.

Disappointed that Amy Adams never seems to take the award home. This is what, her 3rd or 4th nomination over the years?

Her 4th nom in 7 years. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that AnnE will take home the Oscar. Too bad. Would love to see Amy get it, but just no chance.

I know. I hate when I’m forced to say something nice about her. But dammit, she looks fantastic and that dress kicks ass.

Amy Adams looks AMAZING. I love that dress on her although not a fan of the twee-hair. But she is so beautiful and talented, she could wear a paper bag and I’d still root for her.

She was also amazing in The Master. It’s pretty unbelievable how she can fluctuate between playing princess-like characters to Charlene in The Fighter and the biggest BAMF in The Master. I really really hope her next few films earn her nominations and the coveted statue. Maybe the Spike Jonze film? She is the female lead with JOAQUIN!!!!

And I have nothing to say about Anne, other than… can’t wait for her to go away after awards season! She won me over with TDKR and then I fell back into my hate-spell with her over the top awards campaign.

This is the first thing in a long time she has worn that hasn’t screamed try-hard. It’s lovely.

Like everyone else, I am a big fan of Amy Adams. This dress, not so much. It looks like black mold is crawling up her boobs. A moth-eaten castoff from the Downton Abbey wardrobe. Her makeup is very pretty though, as usual.

I prefer Amy’s dress, though the frontal slit is kind of overkill.
Very nice upper part, I approve.

I like Anne’s dress, too. It is a bit boring, though. I’m not sure she wore it to the right kind of event. It seems like something that’s suited for the White House Correspondents Dinner or a charity gala.

Can someone just answer me this: when one wears bangs into their eyes, does it not bug?

I would be constantly touching my hair, trying to get it out of my face. She should win an award for self-restraint.

C’mon, BAFTA! I was counting on you for a Judi Dench win!

AnnE’s dress would have been better in white. Or “colour of the year” emerald.

Is it me or are a lot of these dresses and styling rather safe…is this a British awards show thing? Are they more conservative? Or am I just used to over-styled American events?

Amy’s dress lays (and looks) like she’s put it on backward.
And Anne’s dress is lovely, but it reminded me of a vintage toy store in Cleveland that has this amazing wall of bottle caps.

For Anne, great dress; horrible hair.

Amy Adams is too good for that dress. I’d expect a Kristin Stewart type to wear that, not an Amy Adams.

    • Andrea says:

I don’t think it’s slutty. It’s sexy. Her body looked incredible last night on the live feed. The open back was gorgeous and she has gorgeous legs.

Ladies, I have to disagree here: Adama was the star of the red carpet last night. She was stunning.

      Girls,

Not really gloating as I got the hangover of my life…

I did write a comment but it got deleted so I guess I can’t overshadow the topic? Fair enough.

      Anyway I shall be short.

Spoke to Hiddleston, his cackle is funny.

Chatted with AnnE, Hayley, Thandie Newton again (with a high five), George Clooney part 2 (part 1 is on Fassbender thread from yesterday), J. Phoenix coming out of the gents, The Noisettes band, BCoop, M. Cotillard laughing at her dress… To name a few!

Fassbender ah well he recognised me and my boss (we met at the same place last year) we hugged and kissed, then he shared a quick smoke with my boss, who made fun of his outfit that needed some serious ironing but like he said “eh, it’s just a party you know!” :-D

Now I just gotta rush to them toilets again, barf is calling… +__+

Tres jealous! :) The most we get is the odd day of filming here in the museum.
Sounds like you had a fantastic time, out of interest, what was the reception of Stephen Fry’s Co$ joke like? It seemed kind of frosty on tv.

        *pats forehead*

@ Amelia yes press it is. And the joke was alright, people laughed.

Ah well just everyone having fun. I didn’t see any particular dirt per se, I only saw everyone having fun and it was cool to see them hugging each other, as some of them starred in films together, I could hear “hey you what’s up with the hair?” and other “nice to see you again here” and another actor saying “dude the award is like a mask, try it for Halloween!” too funny! I joked with miss Mission Impossible 2 a lot given our curly hair and the rain, she is so pretty, and I loved her dress.

Oh I also saw mister winner director laughing a lot and his wife was trying to get involved in the convo but he was very much into chatting with the other guys.

Aaaaand… Be right back… *crawls out of bed to barf*

Anne looks perfect. Perfect dress, perfect hair, perfect purse, perfect make-up, perfect jewelry, and perfect shoes.

    Very polished and still lovely.

Whether she deserved the award is another matter I’ll leave to others.

On the other hand, everything about Amy was wrong. Awful cheap looking dress, earrings out of place with all that lace, hair looks like some strip mall beauty shop did it, enough – I’ll leave her alone. She’s a lovely woman and someone did her wrong with this styling.

I love Anne Hathaway’s dress, hair and makeup. She looks lovely as per usual. I think she is definitely one of the best dressed at these events time and time again. Not sure why everyone hates her so much – to me she just seems a bit insecure sometimes – I don’t get the egotistical vibe everyone else seems to.

I usually post about Anne but have to say here that Amy A looks stupendously gorge. Maybe the best I’ve seen her: the gown, hair, jewels. I love this look on her, she is truly beautiful – facially, along with Jessica Biel, she is one of the most gorgeous in Hwood imo – and does the elegant old-school glamour look so well when styled properly.

Anne looks good, love the black Burberry column on her shes wearing it well. Would kill to have her figure now that she’s gained some weight back. The hair needs work but its coming along nicely. I’ll refrain from comment re her speech is was vintage Anne what else to say?

Trying to remove personalities from this, I think Anne’s look is fabulous. Love the dress, hair, makeup… The whole package.

I adore Amy Adams, but hate this dress and hair. She looks like a smaller version of Adele.
