Here are some photos from last night’s Elle Style Awards in London. I believe this is for Elle UK, especially considering that most of the ladies in attendance were rather B- and C-list UK celebrities. Still, there were some notable fashion moments, and I wanted to cover some of the pics! Let’s start with Kate Hudson in this Stella McCartney. On the plus side, this doesn’t look like one of Stella’s usual designs, and by that I mean it’s not completely hideous, unflattering and poorly designed. That being said, it looks dated and cheap. And is it just me or does Kate look kind of tweaked too?
Lady Edith!! I mean, Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael. She looks really cute here!
Livia Firth (Colin Firth’s wife, environmental activist, journalist). She always wears either “recycled” dresses or dresses made out of sustainable materials. So, it can be kind of hit-or-miss when her priority isn’t “looking the best for the occasion.” But I really like this sack dress on her – she looks really pretty.
Peaches Geldof. I keep forgetting she’s knocked up again!

I actually kind of like Kate’s dress.
Stella has no fashion sense. Her own taste and the clothes she makes are awful. She is famous because of her last name period.
I think Hudson looks fantastic. Stella, on the other hand, may not look like something the cat dragged in, but she definitely looks like something it left on the doorstep. Capes are so last awards season.
Typo in the title is hilarious. I thought it was an advertisement for a biopic “Kate Hudson IS Stella McCartney”.

I feel for her. I too look sooo much better with a blowout and some concealer. I give her credit for dealing so well with being the “ugly sister”.

Hudson had so much potential to be a serious actress after “Almost Famous” and threw it away to be in awful romcoms. Imagine if she had been pickier about her roles after her Oscar nomination, she could be at the BAFTAs or Emmys instead of the Elle Style Awards. I felt like she never really cared about having a serious acting career. She’s just in the spotlight because it’s fun and lucrative but she probably cares more about fashion and having fun at these type of events than being nominated for another Oscar.
Also, she looks so much older than her actual age. I looked up her age and she is only 33! I thought she was in her mid-late 30s by now. She’s too young to be tweaking already.
IMO, she’s never been a good actress in anything else, I don’t feel like it’s wasted potential so much as Almost Famous was a fluke.
I agree that Kate Hudson isn’t a good actress, but we’ve seen many mediocre actresses go on to win major accolades (Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow). I think it depends a lot on how much an established actor/actress wants a serious career, the roles they pick, and their Oscar campaign. She has the name, star power, and family connections to land good roles if she had been pickier after her Oscar nomination.

Whilst i agree with everything you say, i don’t think making romcoms a career path is a terrible thing. One simply needs to be as smart about choice of projects as one would be for Oscar bait roles.
Meg Ryan did this very well, and for the most part was only in romcoms and super successful. That said, there don’t seem to be great writer/directors in the genre anymore. They are all either retired or dead. RIP Nora Ephron 🙁
stella and kate seem to use the same face “doctor” er, i mean shiny makeup.

I can’t believe it, I don’t hate what Peaches is wearing, in fact I think she looks really good. I still don’t like Stella though.
The person in the pink does not look ‘really cute’. A pink potato sack and giant white shoes looks great?! Lol. Kate looks okay. I think Liv is super pretty but I don’t like her dress.

Shoes are completely fug and shouldn’t ever be worn with that dress.

I can’t believe it either; usually peaches looks meh, but she is looking really good here. As for Kate think she looks good here though she looks a tad different; maybe different makeup or workout routine I dunno.

I like Kate’s dress but think her hair is a little severe. It reminds me of Maris on Frasier…..I like the other outfits, except those white shoes!! Copying Pat Boone’s style!
Yikes, Stella McCartney’s got a fivehead! She could really do with some sidebangs, and less Botox.
Where is Kate’s engagement ring?
can’t decide about kate’s tweaking, but pretty sure she put very little effort into this look. this is a dressy version of me at work today. didn’t have time to wash and blow out hair – let alone get my roots touched up in time – so wore slick bun and hoped some decent makeup and earrings would make me look put together. she knew that dress would look ok given her body (and get her points with stella?), but did she really love that dress? suspect it was just hanging in her closet and reasonably comfortable and seemed appropriate. given the comments on her low commitment to acting career, seems like she’s just doing the minimum to keep all of the perks. which actually seems very normal. if my analysis is correct, i suddenly like her even though i never had an opinion one way or another.
