Angelina Jolie’s mom passed away

Angelina Jolie’s mom, French Actress Marcheline Bertrand, died after a long battle with cancer. She was just 56 years old:

Marcheline Bertrand, actress and mother of Angelina Jolie, died on Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Jolie said in a statement to the Associated Press.

The 56-year-old Bertrand, who battled cancer for over seven-and-a-half years, was surrounded by her children, Angelina and son James Haven, as well as Jolie’s partner, Brad Pitt.

“Marcheline was beautiful, caring and totally devoted to her children. I never saw her upset or sad, even after she was diagnosed with cancer,” Lea Hunter, who once dated Haven, tells PEOPLE. “She always treated me like a member of her family.”

Angelina is quite young to lose her mother like that. My mom is a little bit older than Angelina’s mom and I can’t imagine losing her at such a young age. Our thoughts go out to Angelina’s family.

According to People, instead of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Women’s Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai in LA, where Bertrand spent her last days.

The funeral is said to be private, but you know that the paparazzi are going to be keeping an eye out for it.

    Very sad.

I wonder if this will bring Angelina and her father, Jon Voight, back together again.

  2. Clarimonde says:

No matter what you think of Angelina you have to have a bit of sympathy for her right now. I hope the press give her some space for a while so she can grieve in private.

Hi, i am from Serbia, ex Yugoslavia.
We wish all the best to Angelina

  4. KIM says:

Very sad news, but one small correction- Bertrand was not French celebitchy- she is French-Canadian and American Indian.

That’s sad. I thought she said on Larry King her mother was doing better.

  6. Alex says:

Losing your mom is the hardest. I lost mine to cancer 18 years ago and still miss her every day. All my sympathy to AJ at this very sad time.

  7. kailie2 says:

That’s really sad, she was too young to die. Cancer is said to be tricky–people go from seemingly doing well to dying in a matter of weeks sometimes. Angelina must be devastated.

  8. Gigohead says:

I’m not a huge fan of Angelina’s but that’s sad about her mom.

Anyone who loses their mom is in my thoughts and prayers. Poor Jolie. I hope photographers can let her be and let her mom’s funeral be private and personal, the way it should be.

Good for her that she went surrounded by family, though. It was a beautiful gift that she was able to be with her children in her last moments, and I admire Brad for staying by her side as well.

Very very sad. I don’t know Angie but I think this woman was an inspiration and her rock. I am sure Brad and the kids will provide sanctuary but as one who has lost a parent (who was less than grand mind you) it is incredibly heartbreaking.

Thoughts are with her and her family.
