Olivia Munn in revealing Versace at the VF Party: most ‘look at me’ gown?

Kaiser and I were on phone yesterday trying to coordinate Oscar party coverage after we realized that one of our photo agencies had released their Vanity Fair party pics in stages, and we’d missed the second wave. We were so tired we decided to cover these people today, hence these additional photos. One of the things we talked about was who bugged us the most at the Oscars. Kaiser was saying Zoe Saldana, because Zoe wore two dresses and seemed to be seeking attention, but I say Zoe pales in comparison to Olivia Munn here. At least Zoe was a presenter and had some kind of excuse.

Olivia, on the other hand, showed up for whatever reason looking like she was about to pop out of her Oscar Marchesa monstrosity (that dress is over here) with chest spillage that was approaching Brandi Glanville levels. When she changed up for the Vanity Fair party, and of course she changed, she wore this peach beaded Versace Atelier number that showed skin all over the place. I don’t know where to start with this dress, so I’ll let it speak for itself. You guys can probably come up with better adjectives than me, with “trashy” being at the top of my list.

In contrast we have Kate Beckinsale, who almost always wears ball gowns and overdoes it, but at least she’s not pulling back her hair, slapping on some cheap lipgloss, putting on her best wide-eyed “oh me?” look and showing us her goods. Ok I got that out of my system, thanks! Getting back to Kate, she’s so lovely and we know what we’re getting with her. She wasn’t at the Oscars this year but she came to the Vanity Fair Oscar party and classed up the joint. She was in a strapless black Monique Lhuillier gown with gold details. I like the geometric design on her gown but find the skirt a little too much. It’s the Oscars Vanity Fair party, it’s appropriate.

I’ll be damned, is Hillary Swank wearing the same red dress that Sally Field wore to the Oscars?! It’s also by the same designer, Valentino, and Hilary’s dress is sheer while Sally’s was much more opaque. The draping around the bodice and arms is very similar, as is the way the skirt falls into a long train. (Although Sally’s dress was more ruffled.) I’m not a fan of that sheer skirt over a mini combo and think that Sally’s dress worked better.

Valentino is the designer whom Anne Hathaway is chummy with, headed by the oompa loompa dude, and Anne ditched her Valentino Oscar gown at the last minute for that nipply Prada. Here we have two actresses at Oscar events in strikingly similar dresses from the same fashion house. I’m not an insider by any means, but this shouldn’t happen should it? As it turns out, Anne rejected that Valentino for being to similar to another gown, Amanda Seyfried’s Alexander McQueen. (Kaiser talked about that here.) So Valentino royally screwed up this awards season.

Again, Sally Field’s dress. It’s too close for comfort for me. I would be pissed if I was either of these women.

I LOVE the Kate Beckinsale dress – especially the length. I feel like I’ve seen Swank’s dress a million times, although the petticoat underneath is a nice touch.

Speaking of undergarments – Olivia Munn appears to have forgotten to put on a dress over hers.

Munn annoys me so, why is she even there? It looks like she’s wearing a holey handkercheif. My bathmat has more fabric.

Kate is cute as always, like her dress.

The link to the article about Amanda Seyfried’s dress gives an error.

I love Kate’s dress. For her, that’s undrstated. And I still have hair envy with her

I know I’m probably in the minority here but I think Olivia Munn looks effin’ hot and gorgeous. Crazy body, pretty face, and skin I would kill for. If anyone can wear this dress, it’s her. I don’t have an opinion on her otherwise, at least not a strong one.
HS looks fantastic and classy and Kate B. …. she always bores me a little but I do like her dress.

Olivia Munn is gorgeous, there’s no denying it, but her behavior just seems trashy to me.

Kate is too tanned but still very pretty too.

I like Kate Beckinsale’s dress. It’s adorable. Olivia Munn’s dress on the other hand looks like a bunch squid skins patched together.

Sally Field and Hilary Swank’s dresses make me think of what Rihanna wore to the Grammys, too. Was that one a Valentino?

Kate looks great, love that dress, perfect for thd VF party.
Those two red dresses are way too similar!
Olivia’s is trashy and way too revealing, but not even close to Brandi’s level.

I can’t with Olivia Munn, someone please explain to me why she’s a thing?! She seems marginally talented and it’s not like she’s that pretty either.

I prefer that dress on Sally Field.

The most interesting thing about Kate Beckinsale is her hot husband.

Olivia Mumm’s second dress is super crazy. Little girl fairy costume material and lace applique…spleens to make a very slutty nightdress looking thing. The first dress, the red one, was a way better color on her, but until it was mentioned I hadn’t realized how “Brandy G ish” it was at the top. Why was she even there?

Kate Beck’s dress is beautiful. I love the beading, the full skirt and the length.

Gianni Versace is probably spinning in his grave…look at what his sister did to his brand! I mean, when he did sexy dresses they were still edgy and fun, and not out and out trash like Donatella seems to favor lately. I cannot think of one redeeming thing about that dress, alas.

So let’s move on! I adore Kate Beckinsale’s gown, though I do think it’s a bit much for an after-party.

At least Zoe Saldana was a presenter?!?! C’mon, at least she’s a movie star! I thought she was fine, although the gray dress was a little over-embellished.

Munn is just too try hard.

  13. I only like Kate Beckinsale’s out of all of these dresses. It’s very 1950′s-looking and I love the details.

Olivia has a nice body but that dress is just awful. I liked her other Marchesa one much more!

I gotta say, I don’t get the hate for OM, I think she’s hot! Also, this is nothing compared to the crap Liberty Ross wore so so, NOT most ‘look-at-me’.

Kate looks AMAZING! omg that skintone!! Olivia is such a gorgeous girl but her desperate slutty demeanor makes her seem so cheap and easy to get.

I find Olivia annoying and still can’t figure out why she’s a thing. Whoever said upthread that her dress looks like sewn-together squid skins was right. Not to mention the 90′s ugly sandals. Fail all around!

  23. liz_bee says:

WHY does Munn always have that horrible look on her face? Like she’s pretending to smile, instead of actually smiling. Or maybe she just looks really stoned? Why was she there?

Phew, got my bitchiness out for the day.

Bad dress in a bad color for Olivia. There are other dresses in this collection of the Versace Atelier line that are in better colors for her skin tone and in textile patterns that don’t look quite like a skanky granny’s hanky. But I guess she wanted to go for the “look, I’m almost nude–NOT” look.

I’m probably alone in this but I really like Hillary Swank’s dress a lot better than Sally Field’s. I hate Sally’s little ruffly bits at the bottom of the skirt, and I prefer Hillary’s skirt’s shape.

Having said that this is really a massive fail for Valentino. I am really surprised they let such a thing happen.

  26. SRobin says:

Someone please explain me who Olivia Munn is? The only thing I’ve seen her in as an actor is New Girl and wished she’d go away every second (wasn’t probably her, just the character).

She’s been in celebrity things for years now and I still don’t know why she’s famous? I know she’s an actress but where?

EDIT: Looking at the comments, Harvey Weinstein explains it all..

WOW! That Swank/Field dress situation IS bad. . . and you’re talking two high profile guests. Not good at all. Helen Hunt’s wrinkled H & M dress is looking like a better and better choice as time goes by. . .

I can’t stand Olivia Munn. Why is she famous? What has she been in that is notable? (Besides Magic Mike and she was the only bad thing about that movie)

Her whole ‘look’ bugs me. Her face, her hair, just all of her. She always seems to scream “LOOK AT ME”!!!

I have to say Olivia is perfection in that dress. Perfect body type for it. Hair, blah. It’s after parties. I see no problem. It’s a gorgeous dress and color against her skin tone.

See Hillary reminded me bow great Sally Field looked for 61 or however old she is.

Actually Mr Valentino retired in 2007. The house is now carried on by two other designers. I believe he occasionally designs special pieces for friends but h is not the designer of the house anymore so people shouldn’t blame him for designs or bad management. I highly recommend that EVERYONE watches the superb documentary “Valentino: The Last Emperor” which documents his last years at the house and his retirement. It is fantastic.

  34. Really? says:

IMO, even though i like Brandi G, i think her dress was the most “look at me!” Followed by Liberty Ross’ nip and peep show, oh but don’t forget Heidi’s boob bonanza…and then maybe Olivia here, but only because it’s a bit bare around the boobs and upper thigh…gah, whatever happened to leaving a little to the imagination?
