Seth MacFarlane says he doesn’t want to host the Oscars again: we’ll see?

People had very strong opinions about Seth MacFarlane’s Oscar hosting gig. Some of the jokes made me groan and shake my head, but I giggled at some of them too. Mostly, I thought Seth got a bad rap because Oscar producers tried to jam in too much stuff, which CB pointed out yesterday. Watchdog groups and professional commentators are already saying that it was the WORST Oscar telecast in years (I guess since Hathaway & Franco) and that Seth should never, ever be allowed to host again. The problem? Sunday’s Oscar telecast scored huge ratings, the best ratings in years. Is it the case of everyone watching a trainwreck? Or is something else?

Anyway, now that the controversy has happened, the question becomes: will Seth ever be asked back? Someone on Twitter asked Seth if he wanted to come back, and he had an answer: “No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though.”

[From Seth’s Twitter]

Eh. That’s what Ricky Gervais said too and then he came back to host The Golden Globes two more times, didn’t he? These event producers LOVE controversy. They love it when a Ricky Gervais or a Seth MacFarlane are still being discussed and analyzed days after the event. And they love the ratings too. My guess is that even with the cries of “sexism” etc, Seth will be asked to host again. Whether he does it… well, God knows.

I do think this awards season has given us one thing: Amy Poehler and Tina Fey co-hosting the Golden Globes. I definitely think they’ll be asked back next year, or maybe they’ll be asked to do the Oscars.

Last thing – Page Six claims that Seth was hanging out with Charlize Theron at the after-party he threw for himself. Where WAS the Khalessi?

The re-tweet at the bottom of the picture is hilarious

I like his Star Trek reference in the tweet!

I guess a lot of people weren’t familiar with his work? If you’ve ever watched Family Guy or American Dad then you’d know it’s a lot of immature jokes that are highly amusing.

I’ll bet he’ll be back. He can’t resist a stage. He might have started out as an animator, but he obvsly wants to be a performer as well.

As for CT – she’s about two feet taller than him, but maybe if he stands on his giant bank account he’d be tall enuf for her!

Seth said before the Oscars aired that he wouldn’t come back to host. I tried to say on yesterday’s post that what Seth said about women boobs was tamed to what some hardcore commedians say about women. I don’t see these so called watchdog groups going after them; I guess the venues those commedians perform in aren’t worth it because they are not as big as the stage of the Oscars. I love how Watchdog groups love to pick their battles; they only go after people that would garner them the biggest audience.

I thought Seth was funny and the boob song was cute. It’s not like he was up there making untrue statements or commiting character assassination againt these actresses. All the women he mentioned did in fact show their breast in film.
BTW during the boob song did anyone see when Seth got to Naomi Watts name and they put the camera on her the man sitting next to her blatantly stared at her chest, very funny.

All of the actress reactions were pre-taped. They were all in on the joke. The guy staring at Naomi’s chest was part of the joke as well. Still funny as hell though.

    • Fue McCormick says:

I thought the shots of the actresses in the audience reacting to the song were hilarious. BTW, anyone watching closely could tell it was pre-taped; all of the actresses were wearing different attire.

      • Spooky says:

YES, THANK YOU. I’ve read so many people complaining about how unhappy the actresses looked… Dude, they were clearly in on it. Thank you.

i didn;t mind the song, but I didn’t like the ScarJo line. It wasn’t her fault she got hacked. I thought it was a bit harsh. At least the others got paid for boobs.

My favourite oscars ever. I LOVE Seth.

  5. Mr. Stinky FishFace says:

I still say let Joseph Gordon Levitt have a go. If you’re looking to draw the younger crowd in he’s always a hit.

I thought Seth was fantastic! The only reason I watched the Oscars, in fact, was because he was hosting. Instead of criticizing him, people should take note as he is a true talent: funny, a great singer AND a dancer.

  7. Shira says:

Who would offer it to you!? That show BLEW.

And honestly, I think the reason the ratings were so high was mostly ’cause the movies were great this year.

That last retweet is hysterical. I only liked one thing on oscars night and that was the flight scene reenactment with sock puppets! I’m stiill laughing at that scene. Seth should have done more stuff like that.

Khaleesi is stuck in Essos with Voiceover Sex God.

He looks like the sort of matinee idol that waS churned out in the 40s. He’ll look like Blake Carrington when he is old.

  11. KellyinSeattle says:

I doubt he’ll do it again just because he’s getting so much sh##t.

  12. Wicked says:

I don’t get it…I once heard it said, referring to Ricky Gervais, and his Golden Globes controversy, that it’s like “inviting a shark to dinner and then being shocked when he eats all the guests”! This is what Seth does and I was personally dissapointed it wasn’t worse 🙁 OMG! These actressess were apparently shocked @ the “boob” song? Really ,but not quite so embarassed when the whole world got so see their boobs for “artistic purposes”? If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen!!! Hypocrites!!! Love you Seth, but stay away from the mainstream…they’re not ready for yoiu yet!!!

  13. Flower says:

It started out well enough but soon descended into trashy non-funny gags, probably more the writers fault than Seth’s. I’d like to see William Shatner host, he is often very funny and could get away with the trash talk that seems to be normal for the Oscars lately.

  14. Amy says:

The worst Oscar host in years? I feel like I hardly read any positive reviews of ANY Oscar host. James Franco-Anne Hathaway was definitely awful but the consensus is always mixed. Everybody gets hated on–even Ellen Degeneres did when she hosted and I absolutely love her!

I personally do NOT want Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to host the Oscars. The Golden Globes work really well for them, and that’s because the GG and Oscars are COMPLETELY different. The GG are more relaxed because everybody is sitting at a table drinking alcohol and food. It’s almost like being at a restaurant/bar except awards are being given out and there is stand up going on on stage. Honestly they should host the Oscars the same way–with tables and lots of alcohol flowing! It should be fun, not stuffy. I’m afraid Tina and Amy would fall flat with the Academy crowd.

Thank goodness! He was terrible. Worst and most boring show ever.
