New trailers for ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘What Maisie Knew’: which looks better?

Two trailers were released this week for two completely different films and I want to see both of them in different ways. First, the new trailer for Iron Man 3 which… looks okay. I really liked the first Iron Man and I thought the second one blew major chunks. I guess the third is supposed to be a return to, like, actual storytelling and a real plot that isn’t just a set-up for another damn franchise. This one is also notable because people are saying Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts might be in real danger or something? Are they going to kill off poor Pepper? God, that would be awesome. I mean, I kind of like Pepper in the world of Iron Man, but let’s not pretend that Gwyneth is the reason people are tuning into the franchise. Anyway, less talking, more action!

See? It’s nice that it doesn’t feel as if they’re giving away the whole plot. I have high hopes for Guy Pearce, and not-so-high hopes for Ben Kingsley who, let’s face it, will say “yes” to anything. That man loves to get paid, and I hope he’s amassed a spectacular fortune because good God does he say yes to some crappy movies. (And I’m saying that as someone who adores Ben Kingsley.)

Next up: the trailer for the long-awaited What Maisie Knew, starring Alexander Skarsgard, Julianne Moore, Steve Coogan and a precocious child actor. I was actually blown away by how good this looks:

As any child of divorce will tell you, this sh-t is real. I mean, they’ve heightened the stakes with the story because Julianne is playing some kind of rock star and Coogan is playing against type as some kind of super-dramatic bastard. But my heart-area pinged a little bit with this. This is going to be good. And Skarsgard looks GREAT in this.

The real life bond between Alex and that little girl will make your ovaries explode. The videos coming out of Toronto were just amazing. They adored each other.

As for the two films, i can’t wait for WHAT MAISIE KNEW because i love modern re-interpretations of classics. Will wait for the DVD of IRON MAN.

  2. the original bellaluna says:

Oh my gosh, the trailer for What Maisie Knew had me in tears!

  3. minime says:

Are you kidding me?? Skarsgard?? Skarsgard looking hot?? Skarsgard being nice with a kid fulfilling all of our fantasies of parenthood?? Ohh that is definitely my movie…

    • LostinSpace says:

This!!! I will spend the time and $ to see What Maisie Knew in the theater…Iron Man I will wait for the DVD release.

  4. marie says:

I will see both. Ironman actually looks pretty good, and I’m hoping Kingsley doesn’t cheese it up.

And of course I’ll have to see Skarsgard, will always go to see Skarsgard..

    • V4Real says:

Iron Man looks fantastic but of course I’m bias because of my deep lust for RDJ. You can put that man in a Looney Toon Cartoon and I’ll go see it. He just does it for me.

      • marie says:

I’m not really a comic book movie kinda girl (obv. I’m the DA who ran Iron Man together) but this one looks like something I could watch..

  5. Mirella says:

What Maissie Knew looks amazing! I’ll be seeing that. I’ve never seen any other the Iron Man movies, so I’ll pass on that.

  6. allons -y alonso says:

I loooove both of these trailers for very different reasons.

    1) I’m a huge Marvel fan and Iron Man 3 looks as though it’s upping the ante. I hope it makes up for Iron Man 2, which was bloody awful.

    2) I love Julianne Moore & I love Steve Coogan. It looks good.

    • j.eyre says:

I really like this Iron Man trailer. The first two didn’t do much for me (not forgiving the destruction of that gorgeous house unless RDJ gets nekkid, though). This trailer got me. Very excited – GUY PEARCE!

Masie – looks good. And a nice vehicle for all involved. I really, really want to like Skaarsgard but I just don’t yet. Based on this trailer, I might finally be able to.

      • marie says:

what? not like Skarsgard, it’s almost like you’re speaking a different language and I’m not sure I understand..

      • j.eyre says:

I know, seriously. I have been to the doctor 3 times – they can’t figure out what’s wrong with me.

      • V4Real says:

I think Skarsgard is cute but I see a lot of people don’t like him. Is he known for being a douche or something? He wouldnt be in my top 10 but he’ll make the top 20.

      • cr says:

@V4Real: Skarsgard doesn’t have the reputation of being a dbag, quite the opposite. Some people just don’t care about him. There are actors I don’t care about either, but don’t think they’re douches.

      • V4Real says:

        Thanks Cr.

  7. Ranunculus says:

I am looking very much forward to the RDJ and Shane Black collabo. Trailer looks very cool – they have a very talented DP this time too.

Shane Black is a great story teller and can come up with very wicked and super funny dialogue!

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the movie they did together in 2005 is still one of my absolute favourites.

  8. lucy2 says:

WMK looks so good, I really want to see that.
Not so interested in IM3 – I like RDJ but am tired of the CGI overload of superhero movies. And Goop.

  9. Eve says:

Iron Man 3 — there’s no question about this.

The Avengers ruined me for life.

    • V4Real says:

Here here my sister; I’m with you. Iron Man and The Avengers brought my geek side back to life. Plus I’m in love with RDJ, I’ll take him over Captain Sexy anyday.

    • j.eyre says:

@Eve – I think they have support groups for your condition in all the major metropolitan centers now. I believe they are called IWTBAAA – I Want To Bang An Avenger Anonymous.

      • Eve says:

But do I/we really want their help? 😛

      • V4Real says:

No Eve you don’t want their help. Keep the condition. I got it too and I got it bad.

      • Izzy says:

I’m sure their 3 members are trying their best to cure themselves of this awesome condition. I don’t quite understand why, but hey, to each their own…

      • j.eyre says:

*sigh* No. No, I don’t want to be cured. But an Avenger is going to need to present himself for banging soon.

  10. Ashling says:

I am looking forward to both. I’ll go to the theatre for WMK to give support for a smaller film and wait for DVD to see Ironman.

  11. T.C. says:

I’m over Iron Man so What Maissie Knew gets my vote.

  12. serena says:

OMFG. Iron Man 3 trailer gave me the chills. I can’t really wait for it to be out. And wow, so many iron mans at the end LOL

  13. epiphany says:

I like the Ironman series, but the title, ‘What Maisie Knew’, is kind of silly – it sounds like a Lifetime channel TV movie.

    • Eve says:

Epiphany, I think Kaiser’s headline got you confused: “What Masie Knew” is another film (not Iron Man 3’s subtitle).

  14. Missy says:

What masie knew looks so unrealistic and corny, it makes Ironman look believable.

    • V4Real says:

WOw! but LMAO! Okay so I looked at the preview again and just like an above poster said it does look like a LifeTime Movie or NBC’s Movie of the Week.

    • Sara says:

I’m guessing you don’t know anoyone who’s ever been in a custody battle then? Because that’s exactly what it’s like for the kids, being shuffled around to all these people.

      • V4Real says:

Sara I’m guessing you’re responding to Missy but I do know what it’s like; my brother is in the middle of a custody battle right now and so is my cousin. Saying a film looks like it can be on Lifetime or a movie of the week has nothing to do with the context in the film; I’m just saying it looks like something you can see on TV as opposed to paying 10 bucks or more at a theater.

  15. Minx says:

I’ve been waiting for WMK since the first pap shots of Alex and that little girl came out during filming in NYC. I think these two are going to run away with this movie, and I can’t wait to see them on the big screen together. As much as I love RDJ, Alex gets my vote and apparently my heart, lungs, ovaries…

    • Izzy says:

Alex gets my vote and apparently my heart, lungs, ovaries…

From me, he gets all those, and my biscuit too…

  16. ds says:

Why on earth did they feel the need to photoshop the hell out of RDJ?

  17. Jenna says:

YAY for ‘Iron Man 3’!!! I can’t wait! And then ‘Thor 2’ a few months after it! It’s like an Avengers reunion!!! 😀

And I think I’ll see WMK. Finally an American film of Skarsie’s that actually looks good. -_-

  18. diva says:

I would love if they kill Gywenth off in Iron Man. She’s so unnecessary. They can find another Pepper just like they found another Rhode. I’ll still see it either way cause I actually like the movies and RDJ. I can pass on the other film.

    • V4Real says:

Did you know Gwen was not the first choice? They actually wanted Rachel McAdams but there was a scheduling conflict with another project she was working on. I wonder how the Goop felt being second choice.

      • Ranunculus says:

I like Rachel, but I think she is a bit too wholesome for RDJ. Goopy has a great chemistry with RDJ, I actually like their scenes together – always so funny. But I am not one of those who loves to hate on Goopy anyway.

      • V4Real says:

@Ranunculus you think Rachel is to wholesome for RDJ; um she was in Sherlock Holmes one and two with him.

      • Ranunculus says:

I heard about the story that she was considered as well, and I don’t know if she wasn’t interested or if RDJ was pushing for Goopy. If Rachel didn’t want to do it she just added one more bad decision to her career. I think Goopy and RDJ are great together and I hope her role is more fleshed out in the next one. She was great in the first one and unfortunately her role was reduced because they wanted to bring in Scarlett/Black Widow who is always awful.

I get a bit frustrated with Rachel’s choices honestly, because she is quite talented and it seem she is throwing it all away. Those Sherlock movies are a bit meh to me and I rather see RDJ work with Shane, Guy Pearce and Goopy than doing another Guy Richie stinker. But thats just my opinion.

      • V4Real says:

I actually loved the Sherlock films and I’m looking forward to the third installment. I’m not a fan of Richie but I think he did a great job directing. From what I’ve heard Rachel didn’t turn down IM becasue she wasn’t interested, she was already commited to another project. Maybe that’s why she was cast in SH because she wanted to work with Downey and Law. I like Rachel, I think she has potential to be great. As much as I don’t like Goop; I’m kind of getting used to her as Ms. Potts but I’m sure any other acrtess could have pulled off her character in those IM films. Plus, I read a lot of people on the set really didn’t like her and Downey had to fight to get her cameo appearance in The Avengers.

    • DeltaJuliet says:

I can’t stand Gwennie, but for some reason I really enjoy her as Pepper Potts.

Having said that, I still think it would be kind of cool if they killed her off. Not sure what that says about me…..

      • V4Real says:

It says this about you; you perfer Tony Stark being a billionaire, philanthropist, playboy and so do I.

  19. babyturnsblue says:

RDJ would be perfect if he wasn’t so short! Love him.

    • V4Real says:

Height doesn’t matter when we’re laying down.

Plus I’m sure he’s 7 feet tall when he stands on his wallet.

  20. JC says:

ZOMG Skarsgard. He’s needed a good role in a good (American) movie. This looks like it might be it.

I could just sop him up with a biscuit. Please touch me inappropriately, Alex.

  21. KellyinSeattle says:

Love RDJ! I think he’s a really good actor. Gwynnie in the movie? Not a good idea….it seems also it’s been awhile since she’s been in a movie. Because her Holiness is too busy telling everyone else what to do; lifting her nose at the peons. I will probably see the movie w/ my son, though.

  22. anonymous fan says:

Kaiser you may or may not know this but Jennifer Aniston’s man Justin Therouex wrote that awful second Ironman.Just a little movie trivia. Second I cannot wait for What Maisie Knew to come out.I hope that A Skars has a big role and they’re not using him for the trailer to get his fans to buy a ticket.I want to see ASkars in a lead role in a good movie, not that terrible Straw Dogs.

    • Carol says:

The reports I read said that Marvel tied their hands in terms of story-telling for Iron Man 2. What ended up on screen was vastly different and inferior to their original plan because Marvel forced them to make lots of changes, bring in Natasha, and set up the Avengers movie. I don’t know what they would have changed, but JF and RDJ were apparently very unhappy with the second movie. I am looking forward to Iron Man 3.

      • V4Real says:

RDJ was a little disappointed in the film and did you notice the climax of IM2 (fight btwn Whiplash, RDJ & Rhodey) lasted for less than 2 minutes. How in the hell do you wipe out the main villian in less than two minutes.
I’m sure IM3 will be much better; they even brought in the great JJ Abrahams to consult on the film.

  23. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I didn’t bother watching the new Iron Man trailer, seen one trailer for it, seen them all.
But I DID watch the What Maisie Knew trailer , because I have been waiting to see it. And oh it looks heart breaking. I’m having a rough week and that trailer alone made me get teary! Alex DOES look great in this. It will definitely be a ‘must watch’ for me.

    As for Iron Man, meh.

  24. Miss M says:

Iron man 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not only for RDJ, but also Don Cheadle and Guy. Talking about Guy Pearce…why it took me so long to see lockout on netflix?

As for Skarsgard, eh… I don’t get the adoration for him, maybe one day…But I want to see “What Maisie knew”

    • V4Real says:

Lockout was great; I really like Guy and we need to see more of him. Momentum was awesome

      • Miss M says:

When I saw Lockout on my options, I thought: I will play this one and fall asleep. I just couldn’t! Watched until the end. Guy got me in Memento. He’s been in many good movies and he is fantastic, even when he has small roles.

  25. Jane says:

    Dying for more RDJ……THUD!

  26. Mira says:

My heart beats for indies. WMK without a doubt. I’m neutral about the Iron Man franchise. The second one sucked donkey balls! I’ll see the third online or on DVD.

  27. Maria_Spain says:

both i guess but my ovaries had exploted with WMN
