‘Generous’ Tom Cruise threw a $150,000 party for his London cast & crew

Tom Cruise

A rough-looking Tom Cruise has finally wrapped filming on All You Need Is Kill, which he’s been working on in London since last September (with the first mega-craptastic film still of Tom crapping his pants in robot suit surfacing in November). If that seems like a long time even for an big-budget action movie to finish filming, consider also that the film relies on a time-loop gimmick, so it’s been a case of the entire cast and crew being subjected to very similar situations that probably feel like the same scenario on repeat. So it’s like Groundhog Day, but instead of Bill Murray, we’re getting an evil, lift-wearing monkey, and any humor will be of the unintentional variety.

But alas, the film has now wrapped, and Tom Cruise has decided that his time in London was such an amazing experience (which is interesting since much of Tom’s time has been spent awkwardly raving in nightclubs) that he decided to throw the party to end all parties for the cast and crew to the tune of $150,000, and of course his team leaked the details of the bash to make Tom look like such an awesome dude. I noticed that the informant in this story neglected to mention the Scientology-themed goody bags, but here are the nauseatingly gushy details:

Emily Blunt Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise may just be the most generous superstar in all of Hollywood. The acting legend spent a whopping £s;100,000 on a wrap party for cast and crew on his latest blockbuster – but failed to attend the glitzy celebration himself.

Tom, 50, was in London filming All You Need Is Kill, and planned the huge celebration for the entire cast and crew. Unfortunately, the Top Gun star found himself stuck on set until late on Saturday night as filming ran over and he was not able to join the lavish party he had paid for.

Cruise booked one of the top five star luxury venues in town with free food and drink all night for the 400 people who worked on the film. Tom got his people to book the luxurious Altitude London venue on the 28th floor of the Millbank Tower near the Houses of Parliament.

A source close to the action hero told Mail Online: “He chose the venue because it has the most amazing panoramic view of the whole of London.” But due to filming over-running Tom wasn’t able to attend his own leaving do. The source added: “He was still at the studios right up till late Saturday night filming last minute action sequences to the multi-million budget action flick.”

Instructions were sent from the set to managers at the venue that there should be a free bar all night with unlimited champagne and cocktails. The source said: “By the end of the night over 350 bottles of champagne had been popped. There were also delicious canapes of crab cakes, Chinese dim sum, mini Kobe beef burgers, sausage and mash, and satay chicken.”

One of the crew at the party told Mail Online: “Tom’s had an incredible time filming this movie, he’s ridden a vintage motorbike down the Mall to Buckingham Palace and dropped out of a helicopter into Trafalgar Square.

“He said that filming in London has been one of the greatest experiences of his life, and this was his way of saying thank you to all the production team that made it possible.”

The crew member added: “I’ve worked on quite a few Hollywood films and with big star names, but this is without a doubt the most lavish wrap party I’ve ever been to. There’s going to be a few sore heads on Sunday morning though.”

The shindig included a DJ playing all night up to 3am and the party got started early with people wading in at 9pm at the free bar. Hundreds of full champagne flutes were lined up across the bar and were replenished as soon as they were drunk. Waitresses kept going round with seemingly never ending trays of canapes.

There was even a dressing up cupboard laid on complete with Mission: Impossible style outfits and a photo-booth so that crew could take pictures of themselves because there was a strict no photos rule in the party.

[From Daily Mail]

Well of course Tom missed the party that he so selflessly organized because he’s such a hard little worker bee and had to finish the last night of filming on set. I would be willing to bet a copy of Dianetics that this party was written into the film’s budget with Tom necessarily getting all of the credit. I’m sort of wondering exactly what Tom will be doing in the immediate aftermath of this latest gig. He’s got a lot of movies on his roster and is due to start promoting Oblivion soon, but this will be his first official mini-break since Katie filed for divorce last summer. Tom doesn’t do well with downtime, so this could get funky.

Whether you like him or not, he does work hard at his job.

    • SusieQ2 says:

Such a shame he can’t put some of that hard work into his personal and family life.

    • Hmmm says:

He works for millions of dollars. How much do his hardworking slave labourers courtesy Scientology get?

    • Sandy Pandy says:

Yeah, he does and coming from an industry where the Xmas party is “bring your own food and drink”, I think a lavish wrap party sounds great. I don’t care about when he sees Suri – we don’t really know what goes on there. Perhaps they do skype every day. With that lifestyle, that’s what you would do. We compare him to Robo Bride but she isn’t working so it’s easy to look like a saint.

    • Jane says:

As much as I hate to say it, he’s growing on me. haha

  2. Meredith says:

Maybe he can finally go see his daughter in New York.

    • hunter says:

He actually sent a jet to pick her up on Feb. 27 and brought her to London while Katie was in LA but none of the gossip sites covered it, kinda annoyed me.

      • Seagulls says:

Which is not at all the same thing. It’s great that he saw his daughter, but to pull her out of school and routine isn’t perhaps the best thing for a little girl just getting her feet under her.

      • CF98 says:

Except it never happened … you really think Tom would give up the chance to go against the L&S lawsuit by not showing pics of him and Suri?

        I don’t.

I think Suri is out of Tom’s life just like Katie is.

      • Sandy Pandy says:

I think he sees as much of Suri as he can. He parented his other children so why wouldn’t he want to see her? No fun to report the good stuff – only fun to demonize. I like to rag on people like everyone else but I’m not sure I totally buy into how awful TC is made out to be.

      • karmasabiatch! says:

        *waves at SeaOrg members*

Sure seems like we have some SciBots here today. Welcome! (um, not really).

      • Meredith says:

I’m kind of torn about these alleged access visits. TC is a total famewhore for his family man-perfect CO$ guy image and I don’t believe he would ever pass up a chance to flog that image if Suri was with him. So to me, no pictures = no visit. But I’ve also read TC feels he can’t be seen with Suri due to a CO$ backlash as she and Katie are “suppressive persons” who jumped ship from CO$ and Tom’s not supposed to have contact with them. I can’t decide really.

  3. Vee says:

No amount of good press will wipe away the creepy. He belongs to a destructive and evil cult, period. That overshadows any goodwill.

    • SusieQ2 says:

      ^^^THIS^^^

Thank you. I could not have said it better myself.

    • Frenchie says:

+1000 ! Every time I see him it reminds me of kids signing a billion year contract at Sea Org! Same kids who did a lot of free stuff for Tiny Tom! He is creepy!

  4. whatthehell456 says:

He looks seriously hung over. Are they sure he didn’t attend that party? Or is the crazy finally starting to leak from his face?

    • Sassy says:

I was thinking that his age is finally showing.

      • Meredith says:

I never did hangovers well even in my ’20’s. Now so many years later, I avoid them like the Ebola virus. I don’t think my body could take it. So maybe that is what we are seeing in this picture – TC is getting old and the hangover really, really hurts now. Cue the dark room and lots of aspirin!!

  5. MsAubra says:

Creepy as shit, but I’d still hit it…and would regret nothing!!!

  6. Caity says:

Simple. Time to start auditioning a new robot bride

  7. Sarcasmo says:

Jeez, gush much? Wonder how much this cost the CO$…

  8. Buckwild says:

I feel bad for him sometimes. He just doesn’t know how to be normal, and probably never will.

  9. anna says:

Um… if tom was working thru the party wouldn’t cast and crew still be working also? ?? Ive been on several sets and never heard of a wrap party before filming (not counting reshoots) ends. Often happens on a Mon or tues to avoid overcrowded venues

  10. Carol says:

I can’t help but wonder how many crew members woke up with a hangover and a written notice that they signed their lives over to sea org.

  11. kibbles says:

Most of Tom’s recent films have bombed other than the Mission Impossible franchise. Emily Blunt should choose her roles more wisely. She’s a talented actress who should be competing with Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway for Oscar worthy roles instead of making movies like The Muppets and Gulliver’s Travels. I have my doubts about this film doing well at the box office.

    • Apsutter says:

Hey, no hating on the muppets now, people campaign pretty hard to be in those movies because they’re fun. But, yes, she is a great actress and should be doing Oscar caliber work. That said, sometimes they just have to take a movie that will give them a fat paycheck and more name recognition

  12. MoxyLady007 says:

Right. Tom couldn’t attend because he was working. Not because he is a soulless monster who can hardly parrot human “fun”. And definitely not because the cast and crew are all suppressive people.

    Where is Shelley Tom?

  13. JenD says:

“Evil, lift-wearing monkey” almost made me spit out my drink. Hilarious!

  14. TheOriginalKitten says:

Man, I love London SO much…I would move there in a heartbeat.

  15. Gemini08 says:

His age is finally starting to show. That great Paul Haggis interview about Scientology touched on the fact that Tom hates being alone. I think being single for the first time in a decade is making him look haggard.

  16. Tiffany says:

This is not surprising. He always put in his contract that the crew is well taking care of and get everything that they need. This guy is a pro there is no denying that. Its just his personal life that has gone to doo doo.

    • Moore says:

Yes I believe he is a hard worker. Judging from afar that seems to be his best quality. He also sounds like an unusually polished star. Always nice to fans.

  17. loie says:

So what was in the giftbags? $ology swag?

  18. Tiffany says:

” I would be willing to bet a copy of Dianetics that this party was written into the film’s budget with Tom necessarily getting all of the credit”

I disagree. That is just not how things work, and i Think I have heard of him doing things for the crew of his sets before.

    • SusieQ2 says:

Fair enough if that’s true, but why make a big deal about it with a story in the press for this particular movie?

      PR and damage control.

  19. Sweet Dee says:

Alternate theory: he does this a lot because of what people have to put up with while filming with him.

There has to be some reason a silly action flick takes 7 months to film, considering how much CGI will be added in. Why do we suppose that was?

    • SusieQ2 says:

Well, it certainly wasn’t because of all the delays in filming due to Cruise constantly flying back and forth to NY to visit his daughter.

  20. Claudia says:

That was a nice thing that he did, I’m not going to knock him for it or be cynical about it.

Tom, you and your religion creep me the hell out but I would like you so much better if you did ONE non-action movie where you didn’t play intense. He’s very much a one-note actor. I would like to see a drama where his character is utterly open and vulnerable–we’ve never seen that from him. His acting is always wired, tensed, intense, calculated. Tom needs to do raw like Ewan McGregor does raw. Go on, agents, hop to it.

    • TG says:

I agree with your analysis of his acting but he can’t do raw as you suggest. To do that you actually have to be human and that would require being vulnerable. Which we know he is not. He is intense and manic all the time.

    • Moore says:

He wasn’t the lead but was quite good in Tropic Thunder. Very different then his other roles.

    • Leen says:

He was pretty good in interview with the vampire. I was impressed and I am not a fan of cruise.

      • Meredith says:

I never saw “Vampire” but Tom was great in Tropic Thunder. Unfortunately he only strays from the action hero role when he has something to prove – i.e. he did the Tropic Thunder role to prove he wasn’t all washed up and could actually act. Once he establishes this, then he goes back to the action hero role. He seems unwilling to give up his action hero role – maybe he wants to believe that short little Tom really is that character and that’s why he won’t leave it.

  21. KellyinSeattle says:

I don’t think he’s bad looking, but he’s so annoying.

  22. TG says:

I wish these actors like Emily Blunt and Rosamund Pike would not hitch their wagon to this lift-wearing CO$ freak. I won’t support any movie or product that is connected with Cruise or Halle Berry. Too bad because I really like Blunt and Pike. But if they want me in the theatre they better pick better human beings to work with.

    • Apsutter says:

Did you see The Adjustment Bureau with Emily and Matt Damon? That was a good movie and solidified my love for her.

      • TG says:

I haven’t watch all of the Adjustment Bureau, but I intend too. I have seen her in other films like Devil Wears Prada and The Five Year Engagemnt and I loved her in them and both movies. I know the TFYE didn’t get good reviews but I thought it was awesome.

  23. Mr C says:

I worked on AYNIK since august, i was also at the party on saturday.
We didnt get scientology goody bags haha, and they were filming on saturday so many arrived late.
How that cost 100k i dont know. Either Good PR or someone pocketed a lot of cash id say!

    • SusieQ2 says:

Assistant to ‘Mr C’ I presume? Or an apologist at the very least.

      Freeloader debt is not enforceable.

      • Flower says:

Why so rude SusieQ? Mr C is just stating his opinion and give him the benefit of the doubt that he worked on the set and was actually at the party.

That said, Tom is creepy personified but he does know his job and his movies always bring in good box office/DVD sales , that’s why he continues to be hired by the big studios.

  24. Apsutter says:

Oh man….is that Emily Blunt in the film with him? She deserves so much better than that.

  25. Mr C says:

Apologist? I Didn’t have much to do with TC. He’s demanding but incredibly hard working and very polite. I got no issue with him but im no apologist.
There was no scientology undertone to the party and i doubt it cost 100 k is my point.

  26. Dr_Venkman says:

Looking at the weird angle of his boots in the last picture, it seems he was using lifts again. Just trace the line of his leg down and you end up where his heel is supposed to be…
