Lady Gaga premieres her Louis Vuitton wheelchair: tacky or fabulous?

The last time we reported on Lady Gaga, she was rolling around in a custom made, 24 carat, gold-plated wheelchair while recovering from hip surgery. The leather tufted, manual chair looked more like gaudy living room furniture than a wheelchair, but that’s Lady Gaga for you. She’s not going to convalesce in anything that requires her to push buttons to move her ass around. That said, I do hope she’s ok and that she’s recovering well from surgery. She looks kind of hunched over here, and I hope that’s due to some nice cocktails and not her condition.

The latest Lady Gaga sighting involved a Louis Vuitton wheelchair in Chicago, where her boyfriend (fiance?) Taylor Kinney is filming Chicago Fire. Thursday was Gaga’s 27th birthday, and she’s been spotted out in Chicago this week to celebrate. On Friday night, Gaga and Kinney were seen out at a bar, at a “Gentlemen’s Club” and later McDonalds drive-thru. See, Gaga is just like us!

And Lady Gaga, 27, showed she’s certainly a strong person while in Chicago, Illinois on Friday night.

The singer enjoyed a night out with boyfriend Taylor Kinney despite being stuck in her Louis Vuitton wheelchair.

The Poker Face singer wore a bright red outfit and black coat as she was pushed along in her chair.

She and Taylor enjoyed some time together at Richard’s Bar before heading to Polekatz Gentlemen’s Club nearby.

And despite her designer wheelchair, Gaga proved she is down to earth by stopping at a McDonald’s for some food on the way home.

The Born This Way songstress visited the Windy City to celebrate her March 28 birthday with boyfriend Taylor Kinney.

Actor Kinney currently is on location in the city filming the NBC drama Chicago Fire.

A source confirmed to the New York Post’s Page Six this week that the pair kicked off the singer’s birthday celebration on Tuesday evening with an intimate meal at Italian eatery Spiaggia on the city’s famed Michigan Avenue.

Gaga has been confined to a wheelchair since February, when she suffered a labral tear in her hip that caused her to abandon the remaining U.S. dates of her Born This Way Ball tour.

She confessed on Twitter that she dealt with chronic pain for several months prior to seeking medical help, but chose to ignore its effects rather than disappoint her fans.

Despite undergoing surgery several weeks ago to remedy the injury, Gaga still depends upon a cocktail of pain medications to ease her recovery.

These photos would be much better if Taylor was actually pushing Gaga around in her chair. As it is, her people are doing it and he’s nowhere to be found. This begs the question: was this Louis Vuitton wheelchair custom made for her and how much did it cost? I’m thinking six figures at least. It must be custom-made, I couldn’t find any valid google results for “Louis Vuitton Wheelchair -Gaga.” I was thinking I’d seen a Louis Vuitton baby stroller before, but I was remembering Gwen Stefani’s Gucci Baby carrier. (Like a Baby Bjorn) This is really tacky is what I’m saying. Get well soon, Gaga, and show off your style on stage and the red carpet again!

Am I wrong in thinking she had mentioned she has a degenerative condition as well?

  2. LAK says:

I think it’s tacky and fabulous. Liberace with less sparkle.

    Good taste is overated!

    • Sirsnarksalot says:

I agree. Go big or go home! If your gonna roll around in a wheel chair why not have some fun with it?

  3. truthful says:

    tacky..

  4. Tania says:

I’m just done with her. What a moron…

    • Denise says:

Me too. It’s pathetic and I’m embarrassed for her whenever she appears in public or opens her mouth.

  5. Arock says:

People are starving in the world and this chick is rolling around in a six figure wheel chair for the sake of attention…smh. I feel like her career is like the guy who walks into the screen door at a party. Everyone saw it, at its peak it was funny, but people have gone back to their conversation and he’s still trying to get a laugh out of it over by the bar.

    • Risa says:

I thought the same thing when I read this. I was watching this story last night on ’60 minutes’ about these terribly impoverished Somalian kids — it made me so sad, heartbreaking. It’s tough to then see something like this the next day. Geez, you have all those blessings, use the money for some good instead of some nonsense like this.

    • Hakura says:

I couldn’t agree more. I would’ve raised the exact same point if you hadn’t beaten me to it. I know some will argue that if we bring this up now, we should’ve brought it up in every post about celeb designer clothes/purses.

But this is *outright* flaunting of wealth for NO reason other than to flaunt her wealth.

  6. Cam S says:

I used to get in big trouble for playing in my great grandmother’s wheel chair. My Mom would say “Do you wish you had to used that? No? Then get out of it!”. But I was like 5 years old. Granny would have loved to have that chair. Maybe she will donate it when she no longer needs it

  7. Tania says:

    Oh and she looks loaded

  8. Chloe says:

You can say she is running out of ideas. You are in danger girl when your wheelchair gets more attention than you.

  9. marie says:

she’s hunched over cause the dude (or whoever) pushing her is popping a wheelie..

    • Crystal says:

      Marie <3
      *blows kiss* Hey bb !!

      • marie says:

        Hey!! how you doing?

      • Crystal says:

        @marie

I’m good. Work has slowed down and I’m not living on a plane anymore, I’m back in my studio so I’m happy and not as stressed. I’m back to cause havoc on CB. I’ve missed stanning for Beyonce, hating on Kristen Stewart and insulting Benedict Cumberbatch’s face but I’ll get back to that routine soon. LOL. I didn’t get to congratulate you on your engagement last time I was on here so congrats babe. How’s the planning going ? I’m going to assume that my invitation got lost on it’s way to London 😉 I won’t hold it against you don’t worry.

      • marie says:

ha, your snark was definitely missed girl. glad everything has calmed down for you. I have to tell you though, if I look at one more centerpiece, I’m liable to go mental. Seriously considering saving the drama and handing over that mess to a planner, so much easier..

  10. Crystal says:

Tacky as f*ck and I love it tbh.

I like the the dark hair on her too.

She’s going to be so insuffereable during promo for ARTPOP. I’m not looking forward to it. Between her and Beyonce releasing new music this year there’s going to be too much ego for me to handle.

  11. A says:

    She’s disgusting.

  12. derpy says:

    Over her immensely

  13. EscapedConvent says:

There is something seriously wrong with this woman & it’s not her hip.

BTW, what happened to the CaCa stroller with the canopy & the gold spokes? It was the very height of ridiculousness, so this LV one doesn’t look as insane.

Did walking on heel-less hooves for so long have anything to do with this injury? Just wondering.

  14. Jayna says:

I think her heyday is over. The interest has really waned and I doubt when she starts promo for Artpop that people will be as invested in her interviews and appearances, seeing what she wears next, etc, except her fanbase.
    The novelty has worn off.

    • Zoid says:

I would hope so, but her fans are still an exceptionally large group. You know they will eat up this new album, even if it was her farting into a microphone for 60 minutes. If you want to hear an atrocious new single look up “Cake like lady gaga”. She’s RAPPING. AND IT’S BAD.

  15. Shelly says:

She really needs to go away for a while so I can think about becoming a fan again…

  16. lucy2 says:

I shudder to think of the money wasted on that. When she’s better it’ll probably get tossed in a storage locker and forgotten.

  17. diva says:

Did I miss the story on why she needed hip surgery?

  18. Cody says:

Tacky . This is a person who is making so much money that she doesn’t know what to do with it. 0n another note I live in Chicago and none of the local gossip sites mentioned seeing them together . I don’t know how anybody could miss that wheel chair sighting.

  19. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

I just want to know the cost of this contraption, along with the gold one from two weeks ago. This one was probably pricier.

    • orion70 says:

But likely lighter to deal with than the gold, for whoever has to tote it around for her when she’s not in it.

  20. Mew says:

    how many wheelchairs she has??

  21. TheOneAndOnly says:

    Her music was never that good even for pop, and she’s very limited musically besides being a tedious narcissist;Afrock and crystal are spot on;
Compare this mediocrity to the fact that People, Hell, and Angels a posthumous Jimi Hendrix release went to No. 1, musically interesting and indicating where he would have gone had he lived, and this trick still is resorting to stunts because neither she nor her music are all that compelling.
I hope artprop bombs and she finally fades away, Liberace actually was talented.

  22. Hakura says:

I was never a fan, but admit watching her insane performances from the side-lines. These wheel chairs make me sick, just a ridiculous waste of an unGodly amount of money that could’ve gone to children in need.

Who TF needs 24k gold wheel-spokes? Just flaunting her wealth for the sake of flaunting her wealth. She really needs surgery to remove her head from her ass.

  23. ZigZagZoey says:

TACKY TACKY TACKY and just for attention.
    Makes me sick.
And she probably wouldn’t even be in the damn thing if she had not worn the incredibly STUPID attention seeking ugly ass shoes she wore all the time.
You don’t do stuff like that to your body and not expect to pay for it dearly.
Sadly, we all end up in the nasty ass world of chronic pain, some sooner than others because of stupid choices.

  24. erika says:

speaking as one who’s in a wheelchair, it looks ugggg-lee….but it suits her taste i guess..i’m more a ‘push girl’ myself-

    http://www.racialicious.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/push-girls-whole.jpg

  25. bns says:

    Being a brunette suits her.

  26. spinner says:

I am happy to see Ga-Ga slowly circling the drain. YAY!

  27. Ana says:

Publicity stunt. I had that exact same surgery last year and the doctor orders you to be on crutches for some weeks (depending on the severity of the labral tear) and then start walking normally, but never in a wheelchair. You need to be moving constantly and begin PT the day after surgery. You cannot just “sit” all day being carted around, your repaired joints NEED to move in order to heal properly.

    • snark says:

^^^THIS. The doctors want you up and around ASAP, not rolling around in wheelchairs for weeks. Kinda telling at the end of the article it mentions she is still dependent on a pain-killer cocktail. Methinks this is why she’s recovering so slowly…

    • Lemony says:

Hi Ana! Was your surgery successful?
Just wanted to say that I also had this sugery, back in October. No rides in designer wheelchairs for me. My surgeon had me on crutches for 6 weeks & then I was told to start putting weight on it again & walking & then increase my distance daily. I ended up using the crutches for almost 7 weeks because I had some nerve issues with my foot once I was allowed to put weight on it again. Very painful & frustrating. It was such a long process & I was off work for 12 weeks (I’m a nurse)so I was bored stiff at home. However, that when was when I discovered the gloriously snarky world of Celebitchy! Today I’m happy to say that I am pain free at 5 and a half months post-op! The surgery was a success & I’ve started working out again; just got back from Zumba class.
I have to say though, that even now the sight of a pair of crutches still makes me nuts 😉

      • Ana says:

Hi Lemony!!! I have a bilateral labral tear. One side was repaired last year and I still need to fix the other side. I was in crutches only for 2 weeks because I didn’t need microfractures (lucky me, microfractures require 8 weeks in crutches). I read a lot of Celebitchy too!! But yes, any doctor would kick you out of a wheelchair. Did you have to sleep in the horrible CPM death trap too? I should fix the other side soon but just the thought of the CPM makes me shudder.

    • Hakura says:

Gaga likely considered 24k gold jewel encrusted crutches, but felt it just wasn’t dramatic enough for her. But apparently a custom made luxurious designer wheelchair fit the bill.

I’m sure she’s only using the wheelchair when out in public to get attention.

    • my .02 says:

I’m sure she’ll get bored with having to be hauled around when she finds how many high-end places aren’t really wheelchair accessible. ADA or not, it can be a screaming PITA to get around in a wheelchair (I’ve had friends who have them, and being around them even for a bit makes you appreciate how important accessibility standards are).

  28. Barrett says:

    This upsets and disturbs me.

  29. KellyinSeattle says:

I’ve never liked her, but now I really don’t. What’s next? Maybe she can market some Louis Vuitonn toilet paper. Seriously, I think it’s a slap in the face to people who use wheelchairs for their only source of trasport. No class.

  30. DAFFY says:

hope she gets better then auctions the chair for a charitable cause

  31. DAFFY says:

or give it to lindsey lohan…

    • Hakura says:

Too dangerous. We don’t want her to drink & ride. And she’d probably pull off all the 24k gold wheel spokes to be exchanged for more vodka & whatever the dude in the club bathroom is selling.

I could even see her using one to try to escape her punishment, (whatever that will be) trying to pick the lock on a cell door or lock-in rehab.

    • Marycontrary says:

THAT! Cracked me up. Too funny! 🙂

  32. Deeana says:

I like GaGa. Had tickets for one of her canceled concerts – which was sold out, by the way.

This type of injury is one of those that you cannot just say “Oh, yeah, I had that same surgery”. Because there are degrees of the tear to the muscle. Plus some patients have greater collateral damage than others to the joint. And then there are differences in the rate of healing for each patient.
Many variables and each patient is individual.

On the crutches vs. wheelchair issue – depends on the patient’s lifestyle, including actual distances they need to navigate each day. Plus factor in what time of day it is and how much crutching they have already done that particular day. So wheelchairs are indeed often used as an adjunct means of getting from here to there in a patient who is using crutches. (For instance, at an airport, during a shopping trip, or attending an event with a whole lot of people at close range, a wheelchair can be much more practical than having a patient “crutch their way” along.

No matter what you think of GaGa personally, those of you who have had this surgery in any form know that it is no pleasure cruise.

As for alcohol ingestion, at this point I’m sure her docs are saying “No, no, no” because it can actually interfere with healing.

    I wish her the best.

Some truly nice utilitarian information on this site, furthermore I think design holds great benefits.
