LOVE Ciarán Hinds! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE him!

    • GoodCapon says:

How did he do as Mance? I’m surprised they went for an older actor as I’ve always assumed Mance to be someone in his 30s-early 40s.

I’ve only seen him in Rome and I think he was great as Caesar.

      • Eve says:

I haven’t seen him in Game Of Thrones yet…:(

I swear I’ve tried to get on the badwagon but I fell asleep every single time I tried to watch it (although, to be perfectly honest, I only tried to watch the first season — and gave up after two episodes).

But I have loved him in everything else (especially in Rome — most perfect Julius Caesar ever!) so I have no doubt he nailed it in GOT.

      • hatsumomo says:

Everyone appears older onscreen, but yes, Mance is around mid-thirties. In the books, Jon, Dany, and Robb are around 15-16 years old, Sansa is 13, Ned and Catelyn were mid-thirties(they were trying for another baby at the beginning of GOT) and so on. I think its only Ygritte whose looks about her correct age, inthe books she was much older than Jon.

    • ds says:

Me too, he’s so amazing. And do you really need to ask what he’s like in GOT? Brilliant as always

    • Amelia says:

Have you seen Above Suspicion, Eve?
      If you haven’t, do so.
Ciaran is a grumpy, slightly pot-bellied, ol’ curmudgeon in it, but for whatever reason, still doable.
      I think it’s the voice.

      • Eve says:

No, I haven’t 🙁 …and there’s no Brazilian title for it (meaning, it certainly hasn’t been aired here yet).

      • Andrea says:

He also was amazing in the A&E version of Jane Eyre. He played the best Mr. Rochester to date!!!

    • orion70 says:

I haven’t seen the show yet but I totally agree. I have been following him ever since I saw him in Seaforth, along with Linus Roache.

  2. Merman says:

    The dragons,the giant,the nipple(ouch!),Tyrion & Ciarán Hinds!One episode wasn’t enough…

  3. Sachi says:

It was a proper 1st episode to set things up for the rest of the season.

I did like that they introduced new characters right away. The only thing that was probably revealed too soon was near the end of the episode, although I think it would have been hard to follow the book per the character’s development with only 10 episodes.

I’m really liking Natalie Dormer as Margaery.

Cersei had some good lines last night. 😀

    Rose Leslie is so pretty.

Can’t wait for next week! The Queen of Thorns is here!

    • Miss Jupitero says:

My God, I am really loving the new costumes with cutouts in just the right places. Where can I buy? where can I buy?

    • Andrea says:

I didn’t realize how much I missed Natalie Dormer until she appeared on screen.

That girl is a great actress! She was great on The Tudors and she is great here.

      • Sachi says:

Natalie has the perfect face for scheming and conniving while appearing to be kind and gentle.

        Fits the character well. 😉

      • flan says:

Am very glad she’s back too.

Am glad with the amount of interesting female characters on GoT anyway. It’s a great improvement over the usual two or three you see in other fantasy movies/series (while there are twenty male characters).

    • Devon says:

I don’t think there was any getting around who Arstan, aka Barristan, is. People are going to recognize him, my husband did and he’s not a book reader or an AVID watcher. It’s easier in the books because it’s much more ambiguous. I am sad that there’s no Strong Belwas!

      • Sachi says:

That is what I thought re: Barristan Selmy regarding the TV show. Everyone already knew what he looked like so if they revealed him later, people would just go “Well, duh.”

The ‘previously on…’ montage also revealed who was going to be in the episode and he was the first person shown.

I don’t think they can even condense the bulk of his and Dany’s stories to have him in disguise. Too much material to work with and too little time.

      • GoodCapon says:

I agree with everything you said Devon. It was more suspenseful in the books.

That little girl though- when they said warlocks, did they mean the warlocks of Qarth?

  4. elkiddo says:

Fret not. This will be the only episode without our beloved Arya in it!

    • TG says:

@elkiddo – When is Arya going to use her skills? I want to see her take down some men with her sword. Of course she needs to find another sword I guess since didn’t she get hers taken away from her? I was so disappointed that she didn’t kill Tywin Lannister when she had the chance. Someone in the Start clan needs to actually take out an enemy. I love them but none of them have been able to eliminate anyone yet.

  5. Miss Jupitero says:

Haven’t watched it yet, but can’t wait!

Awwww…. are the little dragons getting big? They grow up sooooo fast, don’t they?

    • Maximina says:

      …not fast enough 😉

      • Miss Jupitero says:

        Hahaha! I just watched it…..

Ht crap! Costume envy here! I want to dressluke the khalessi or at least like the ladies in the whorehouse with their diaphanous fliaty undies!

  6. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Looking at the comments on the Khloe link and someone says, “there’s always adoption.” As an infertile women I beg of all of you, don’t ever say that to someone trying to conceive. If we want to adopt, we will come to that conclusion on our own.

    • Meredith says:

      +1000

    • Marigold says:

Yeah, because adoption is easy peasy. It’s just like going to the grocery store and picking out a piece of fruit. Just as cheap, too!

I wish people would learn that aside from being remarkably difficult and expensive, adoption is just like any other family decision-PERSONAL and often complicated. Just as some people have very good reasons for wanting to adopt, many of us have very good reasons for wanting to give birth to our own. Just as no one should bother people about *when* they will have children and *if* they will have children, no one should be bothering those that want them about *how* they have them.

    • Lulu.T.O. says:

Good tip. I’ll be sure and remember. Such a tough subject.

  7. Tiffany says:

Cirean Hines is on GOT. Yeah, I need to watch.

  8. Chordy says:

Jon Snow always looks like he’s about to cry. Isn’t he with Ygritte in real life? That’s good. She’s a badass and can protect him from the mean, mean world.

    • elkiddo says:

      Lol, agreed.

    • mom2two says:

And Jon Snow just has one default expression on the show too. I think Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke are two of the most overrated people on this show.
Can’t say I missed Arya last night, the episode had enough going on for me to miss her.
The scene with Tywin and Tyrion was excellent. Overall, I thought it was a good start to the season.

      • GoodCapon says:

        ^ This.

I like them both in real life but their acting SUCKS!

Kit was okay in the first season but he got worse then. At least Emilia is consistent hehe.

  9. TG says:

So excited about the new season. Had never seen any episodes nor read anything about Game of Thrones but just spent 21 hours this weekend catching up and watching the new season. Am in love with this show. I also caught on from the very first episode that Jon Snow and the Khaleesi have to get together. Never read the books so don’t know if it happens but it seems probable but don’t know why I feel that way, but apparently I am not the only one who thinks that. Can’t wait to see Jon Snow and Ygritte hit the mattress or the ground. Anyone else think Rob Stark is weak now that he hooked up with that annoying pacifist woman? It also took me these 21 hours and lots of internet research to figure out who the heck is who. Can’t’ wait to see that greyjoy guy get tortured. He is in the race with joffrey to see who can be the weakest most hated character. Love Tyronion. I hope he survives to the end and I can see him working well with the Stark’s so there won’t be any problem there. Can’t wait to see all the other Lannister’s defeated. I also love seeing the Khaleesi walk around like a bada** with no weapons save for her dragons. She doesn’t even need to wield a sword. But, I would love it if she was a fighter too.

    • mom2two says:

I don’t think Robb Stark is weak since he married Talisa but the show is definitely making it clear that his alliances are not very strong. Him making sure they find a cell for his mother was him trying to appease his bannerman.

      • TG says:

I think maybe what I really mean is based on the nature of this show, I believe his time is coming whether it be death by his own men or by someone else I don’t know. You are right, some of his men are challenging/questioning his leadership now. I hope what his mother did ends up being the right thing but I don’t see how. I personally don’t believe in negotiating with bad guys and the Lanisters are not trustworthy people. Also, the Starks have shown themselves to be honorable people, and so far my favorite clan, but Rob marrying that annoying woman went against his honor since he is promised to some chick in that incestuous clan. I don’t really have a valid reason for not liking his wife, I just find her distracting to the cause. Or maybe it is I don’t want her to remind me that war is useless.

      • PortlandJan says:

Speaking of Robb’s mother, Lady Catelyn is another chink in his armor. She may be well meaning and protective, but she’s from hunger when it comes to strategy. She either dispenses bad advice (as she did with Ned and still does with Robb) or gives good advice, but too late.

      • mom2two says:

You both make great points…I think that is the problem with Catelyn letting Jaime go is that there is NO WAY the Lannisters would free Sansa in return. Why would they when the North is still in rebellion against the throne? I get Catelyn’s desire to have her children back as a mother, but it left her son in a bad position politically (with his own men and the Lannisters).
The Starks are my favorite too.

      • flan says:

If I can remember rightly, in the books the two stupid decisions (marrying ‘Talisa’ and releasing Jaime) happened after they heard Bran and Rickon ‘died’.

So they were both compromised emotionally and Catelyn became even more desperate to keep her remaining children safe.

Usually the show gets it right and I guess they did it for pacing purposes, but this made them both look foolish.

  10. aims says:

Oh God, you had me at Freddie mercury. Love that man and is missed every day.

  11. moon says:

Team Gendry XOX He used to be that blonde pimply (but buff) kid on Skins with Nicholas Hoult, it’s amazing what hair dye and a tan can do.

And, is that a mini paunch I spy on Kit?

    • GoodCapon says:

      Team Gendry!

I haven’t watched Skins but I’ve watched some videos on YT. Let me just say that I prefer a dirtier, rugged Joe.

  12. apsutter says:

This is a good month for tv! Walking Dead finale last night, GOT this week, and Mad Men next week! Cant wait!

    • DeltaJuliet says:

I was just going to say “I want someone to talk about the Walking Deeeeeaaaaad!” in a really whiny voice 😀

      • Mira says:

Absolutely! Season finale post on The Walking Dead will be much appreciated. I know the finale hasn’t been well received but I liked it. I didn’t expect a face-off between Rick and the Governor, not yet.

    • orion70 says:

The Borgias is coming up as well I think. I’m also really enjoying Vikings.

      • Flan says:

Yeah, Vikings is good. Nicely made too, am glad that there are more and more shows like that.

  13. KellyinSeattle says:

Haven’t seen it yet…the first pic, very pretty. Also, I love it when men wear double-breasted coats. Hot!! He looks mature and not like some of the pretty boys I’ve seen…very handsome.

It does look like a cow, though. Or a donkey.

  15. flan says:

    So glad it’s back!

  16. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

It was a really great episode, so glad that it didn’t disappoint. And I am loving that NZ is only a couple of hours behind the US with GoT.

  17. TG says:

@mom2two – I thought Ned Stark was hot and Jon Snow right off the bat and now I think Rob Stark is hot. I hope The Starks, Tyrion Lannister and The Khaleesi all end up in some kind of harmonious relationship.

  18. TG says:

@PortlandJan – Speaking of giving bad advice, what I love about his show is everyone is giving everyone else advice whether it is good or bad. It seems no one is capable of thinking on their own. Every one of the people who are either bad or turning bad have someone, usually a woman behind them telling them how great they are and that they are king, etc. It is too funny. I also love that the men tell the whores everything so when the whores are in the scene you learn so much about the characters motives and intentions. I am truly adicted to this show.

  19. Lulu.T.O. says:

I’m waiting for this to show up on Netflix!

  20. daily gloss says:

I finally caught up on everything. It is great I like the starks and tyrion I don’t get the hype over Jon snow or khalisee i get it she has dragons what else does she have and Jon is just boring to me .I want to learn more about the walkers and the red lady. It’s a great show.

  21. Andrea says:

Am I the only one who feels sorry for Theon Greyjoy and finds him kinda sexy??

    • TG says:

@Andrea – you must be because I find him one of the worst characters because he is weak and insecure. I just loved when his sister comes to Winterfell and throws her legs on the table as if she is lord of the manor. Poor guy. You could argue it was because of his past being raised by outsiders. I actually do not understand why the Starks raised him so I don’t get any of that, but he took a castle from a boy. What a thing to be proud of.

But I am not criticizing you because we all have our reasons for liking certain characters. I guess you have seen the previews to season 3 so it doesn’t look good for your man.

      • Andrea says:

I guess I identify with him in a way, since I was very insecure as a child, and was very unwanted by my mother (only child, parents still together believe it or not). My mother just hated being a stay-at home mom and took it out on me both physically and verbally. She also blamed me for my father doting on me and loving me over her. So thus, i became kinda of weak and insecure in my teens and thus can feel for theon since I have felt I never had anything of a true family except for my father.

He’s actually is Lily Allen’s little brother in real life and quite sexy IMO.

I also like Tyrion (which some GOT loove others hate). I like him for being an outsider in his family also.
