This ^ is a photo of Olivier Martinez and Nahla Aubry in Maui yesterday, enjoying the last moments of their Hawaiian holiday. Olivier, Nahla and Halle Berry flew back to LA yesterday, and I’m including some of the photos of their departure from Hawaii at the end of the post. Apparently, upon their arrival at LAX after their relaxing holiday, Olivier turned violent and he attacked a paparazzo. Just FYI: after doing this job for years and spending a lot of time looking through paparazzi photos, I know that there are many paparazzi who simply hang out at LAX, waiting for flights to come in because they’ve gotten tips that certain celebrities will be arriving. I think the paparazzi have to stay in one area (the main entrance) to photograph celebrities. My point is that if you’re a celebrity and you’re arriving at LAX, you know for sure that you will be photographed. Even Meryl Streep gets pap’d at LAX. So, with that in mind, this is what happened:
It was a rough landing in Los Angeles for Olivier Martinez. Halle Berry’s fiancé got into a physical altercation with a paparazzo after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport Monday night from Hawaii with Berry and her daughter, Nahla, E! News has confirmed.
According to eyewitnesses, the trio were making their way out of the terminal when they were swarmed by photographers as they came down an escalator. During the ensuing mayhem, Martinez allegedly assaulted the shutterbug by kicking him in the leg and wrist.
Reportedly, the photographer later grabbed Martinez by the arm to ask to why the 47-year-old actor kicked him, a move that seemed to incense Martinez further. After the actor put Nahla in a waiting SUV, he purportedly stormed back to the photographer and kicked him again.
Berry, who had earlier told the barrage of paparazzi, “Get away, there’s a child,” then grabbed her fiancé and asked him to get in the vehicle.
Airport police and an ambulance subsequently arrived at the scene. E! News has reached out to LAX police for comment.
The incident is a double-take of sorts for Martinez: Last Thanksgiving, he got into fisticuffs with Berry’s estranged baby daddy, Gabriel Aubry, who claimed that Martinez threatened to kill him if Aubry didn’t consent to allowing Berry move to France with Nahla.
Aubry eventually secured a restraining order against Martinez, but not before the dustup left him with a gnarly black eye and a broken rib.
One argument to make is that Olivier was simply defending his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s daughter from a swarm of paparazzi, that Nahla might have been frightened by the flashes and the men yelling her name, and that it’s gross to think of grown men swarming Halle and her daughter. That argument is totally legit, and it IS gross. There is another argument to make, though – that Olivier is violent, that he has a short fuse, that there were lots of other ways to handle this situation, that LAX is no stranger to high-profile celebrities and they could have easily gotten a security escort. Ugh.

There was zero physical contact with any pap. Halle pushed Martinez into the vehicle before anything happened. The pap can try to profit but the video tells the whole story.
The paprats should be banned from hanging around airports with their cameras. It’s got to be a hassle for other passengers to have this garbage going on, pushing, shoving, yelling. I don’t know why it’s allowed.
Well, in my mind, everything that happens to Halle is her attempt to say “See? See how terrible it is for me? Let me go to France”.
I think that’s everyone’s first thought. She seems relentless in her pursuit to get her way.

Honestly? I could even see her *intentionally* deciding to go to a pap-hot-spot, LAX, & not take security, to make her point. JustJen says (below) that Orange County Airport isn’t too far from LAX, & could’ve been used instead.& Madame raises the point further, saying Burbank airport is even closer.

Absolutely right. She will prob be back in court, trying to use this incident as “new evidence” she MUST move to France with her daughter. The paps are gross and obnoxious, but Halle courts, inflames and exploits her interactions with them at her kid’s expense and for her own narcissistic purposes. She’s now in same category as Sean Penn and Alec Baldwin: while her irritation at paps is valid, her reaction and refusal to make any attempt to avoid them reveals her as mentally disturbed.

Seriously. Loose cannon comes to mind~there is a difference between scuffling and KICKING someone in the leg~you could really damage someones knee joint permanently. I thought there was soemthing fishy with the whole story Thanksgiving, and this just gives more credence to that episode being at Martinez’s instigation.
Sounds like Halle has gotten herself another violent boyfriend and he was doing what he usually does – being stupid. Other stars get security to steer them through the airport and avoid all this. She can do that too if she wants.
I agree. I think it is especially wrong that he kicked, when to the car, then came back and kicked some more. Clearly he can’t say he was defending himself if he went back for more.
I also have to say this sheds some light on the Gabriel situation from last year. Olivier seems to have a habit of beating people.

LAX is well known pap hang out. 45 minutes from LAX is the Orange County Airport — John Wayne, I believe. Completely possible to avoid the pap mess at LAX. 100% their choice to put themselves into the situation. Don’t feel sorry for any celebrity crying over being papped at LAX.
Good point. Burbank Airport is even closer than John Wayne. I don’t understand why she didn’t have a bodyguard with her. Seems she only had a driver. Strange for someone with her relationship with paparazzi.
My ex was a high profile bodyguard and he would always point out when someone escalated a situation. Most of his job was anticipating and eliminating problems. Then de-escalating any conflicts. If some altercation happened, then he failed at his mission. He was real matter of fact about it, and held no regard for macho bs.
A jacket covering Nahla’s face/body would have been a quick fix in shielding her and ruining the photo. Yelling at paparazzi is like dropping a bloody wounded seal in a shark tank. It’s always going to get vicious fast. Punching, kicking, fighting is just plain stupid and begging for a spectacle.

And there are celebs who can fly through LAX and not get papped, or papped as much.
But it also depends on what you want-looking on ITA’s site, there don’t seem to be any nonstop flights to Honolulu from JW, there are from LAX.
But if you were flying to NYC and wanted to avoid the paps, JW would be a better choice.

There are also direct flights from LAX to Burbank or Orange County, so they could have transferred at LAX and taken a short commuter hop to a less paparazzi-infested airport.
Their beach shots with Nahla in Hawaii were clearly staged, so they don’t have any trouble with paparazzi photos of children when it suits their purposes.
CandyKay, true, but that’s what I mean, depends on what the celeb wants. Or anyone, really. Do you want a non-stop, or as few stops as possible, especially for long-haul flights. Your best bet is LAX, and if you’re a celeb, then you roll the flight dice and take your chances on getting papped. And not freaking out when you get papped. Or you take precautions to make sure that they’re not surrounding and harassing you.
I’m not a fan of flying, and would have gone with the non-stop flight. But most other flights, if I’m really trying to avoid the paps, then it’s another airport.
I think for some celebs LAX is just ‘easier’ and so they’ll put up with the possibility of a few minutes of being harassed by the paps (or if they like being papped, not being harassed).
Most celebs (of a certain level) take charter flights. They don’t have to deal with security or other people. You can get single flights, own a plane, or even do a time-share type thing with NetJets.

I saw the video on E! news tonight. I don’t think He was provoked. The guy was walking almost side by side to Halle. I guess he touched him and he reacted and Halle held Olivier’s arm. When he was getting in the car and decided to leave, Halle kept screaming Olivier, No, No don’t do this…
This video is such a proof that he is violent. Unfortunately, Gabriel didn’t have footage to prove it.

I will never understand mothers who introduce their children to awful men, then are too chicken shit to leave them, or “too in love” and don’t care what they’re putting their children through. Halle is pretty volatile too. Imagine those fights. No child should grow up in a home like that.

These people have enough money to fly into smaller/private airports – why not do it?
First of all, paps shouldn’t be allowed in the airport buildings at all. But they are (even though it sucks). I was coming home from a trip once and there was some celeb or another in the baggage claim along with a swarm of rude paps. Second, there are security measures you can take, especially if you’re high profile, to avoid most of the pap swarm. Halle chose not to do that. Third, great goddess Olivier Martinez is a violent sort, isn’t he?
She has to take some responsibility herself as a mother. If other celebrities can do it, why shouldn’t she do it as well? And sorry, but IMO, when children are involved there has to be some kind of limit as far as paparazzis go. A child is a child and lets be honest, its not like all adults and parents act in the child’s interest all the time. And many paps have no common sense at all, they are vile and aggressive. Olivier was carrying Nahla through the doorway, the pap clearly was trying to block him and initiate contact, Olivier just sort of walked through him to get to the car. The pap then grabbed his arm, Olivier simply gave him a dirty look and got into the car.
I normally am quick to criticize HB and Olivier, but THEY DID NOTHING! Halle kept asking them to stop the flashes b/c she had her child with her. Watch the video . . .she was not out of line here.

Looking at the video- I have to say this headline is misleading. it is just sensational and untrue.
He did NOT assault a pap. He wanted to–YES-and as a parent watching that–I totally get that feeling. If someone was terrifying my kid and swarming around me as a I held them..I totally would want to pop them in the face. This man does have a temper. But in this case, it is understandable.
Paps are ALWAYS at LAX and people call them (not always Halle or her people mind you- TSA ppl, grounds crew, airline employees etc) to say when they are coming in. it’s the way it happens every day.
Not a fan of Halle’s but in this case, I think she and Olivier were totally right to push back. The PAPS were way way out of bounds.
If HB hadn’t stopped him, he would have gone off on the pap and started a fight. But, HB is to blame for this mess. If she is so upset about the papps taking photos, why didn’t she do what was necessary to keep that from happening or try to minimize the effect on Nahla? She took no preemptive steps to keep the papps away from her little one. Nothing.
She could have arranged a connecting flight to an airport that is not a hangout for the papps, she could have at least made sure she had security to keep the papps at a distance. She did none of those things so I don’t agree she had a right to push back.

Here is Nahla hiding from the flashs and then hearing her mother screaming and boyfriend not able to control his temper and wanting to start a fight. That is just what that baby needs.

As I said I am not a fan of HB or her BF either. Security was present (if you view the video) but with the aggressiveness of this group of paps- they needed military to get out the door cleanly.
As a parent, you’d have to pull me off those guys if they did that to my daughters! It’s inexcusable to me as a mother that anyone would grab, taunt, yell and shove someone holding a child. To avoid having your child mauled you have to go rearrange your life completely strikes me as sad and wrong. Many european actors lament the US tactics with paps. There are many ways to avoid this at the airport, the reason many celebs don’t is simple.. they want to be photographed.
Hell even back in the day when my dad worked at much smaller Airports there were optional routes to avoid having to go through the airport for celebs, he lead many out w/o anyone knowing they were even there…so I know they have better options now.
Gabriel should really keep an eye on Nahla. I don’t think Halle or Martinez is above doing whatever they deem necessary to get their desired outcome.
And considering this witch had no problem ordering a police escort to take her and her daughter to a disney show on ice you would think this would be much simpler to have a police/security esocrt our of the airport.

What I find interesting is many famous celebrities live in the same area as HB and you never see their kids being photographed.

I watched the tmz video. I did not see a physical altercation, only raised voices w/ a swarm of paparazzi around hallie…. Those paps flash photography look like it would be blinding. I feel bad for that child.
I didn’t see a physical altercation either. To me it looked more like the pap deliberately got in Olivier’s way. With all the flashes going off, there is no way Olivier could see anything let alone deliberately kick someone.
Getting paped is part of the job if u dont like it dont be a celebrity. He has anger management issues he should definitly do something about it. If I were halle I would make him go to therapy. He cant just go a beat everyone up. The paps are just doing their job they dont really care about them.
If I were Halle, I’d be running in the other direction.

The paps are terrible, there’s no doubt about it. They’re all about swarming to provoke a reaction to generate a photo that will make them money. They don’t care about anything other than getting that shot…horrible people. Say what you want about Halle, but the way the paps swarm them is beyond unacceptable. They deliberately provoke people. Sure, Halle could have hidden the kid, but it doesn’t negate that the paps’ behaviour is wrong. And do flights from Hawaii ever land at those other airports or do they always go to LAX anyway.
No one would have needed to call the paps … it wouldn’t have taken much for a pap in Hawaii to figure what flight they’re on and have another working for the same agency to be there for their arrival.
All that said, if I were Halle, I would have figured out another way out and/or would have gotten security or something. She’s a marked target…it’s like she’s known for going off, so they’ll keep prodding her and Olivier now until they get something…and they don’t give a s*** about the kid.

Wow…he’s such an idiot…Halle doesn’t get that you are only as good as the company you keep…she needs to do what’s best for Nahla, so I don’t think she’s a very good mom. Olivier is well on his way to be the next Alec Baldwin.
Olivier overreacted but as a French man he has no tolerance for paparazzi harassing children since it is against the law in France to take pictures of children without parents’ consent…one reason for the Jolie-Pitts to have a house there
Wow. I was feeling all judgmental until I watched the video. How awful. I always imagine that paps keep a bit of distance (like when Cracken does her perp walk into court, etc.) but these guys were so close and aggressive and the flashes were blinding. I would have a hard time staying calm in the same situation. In fact, scratch that. I would explode.
I totally understand why Halle got so mad. She made it very clear that she was concerned about her child. As a parent, I understand exactly how she felt.
And I don’t think the LAX scene was anything like the school shots or even the vacay shots. On those, you might have one pap who got lucky. This was closer to an attack by a swarm of wasps.
Never thought I would stand up for Olivier or Halle but in this case I don’t think they did anything wrong.

The paps were at fault totally in this case–the video is proof. It was ridiculous and since he already has a rep, it was easy to blame him. Being photographed is one thing, but what happened here was beyond the pale.
When Affleck went off and tried to trip the pap, most folks defended him, but this guy gets ripped. It was ugly and it was not Berry’s or Olivier’s fault this time.

I can’t stand Halle/Olivier but, in this case, they did nothing wrong. The paps (one in particular) were TOTALLY to blame.

I just don’t understand how the articles written about the incident are all so freaking wrong. I mean, it’s like someone sat there & made up the whole thing.
Naha is sunburned in these photos, that really ticks me off. Especially because Halle isn’t burned. She put sunscreen on herself but not her daughter. All little kids should wear sunblock! I cant help but wonder though about Halle’s own issues with race and Gabriel, maybe she likes when Nahla is tanned because then she looks more like herself and less like her father. Plus it would piss most co-parents off if one of them let the kid get burned on vacation… And I would bet that tensions were high anyway w Halle because after a long holiday with Nahla, it’s probably Dad’s turn. Hence Halle and Olivier were all tensed up and ready to pick a fight with the first target they saw. Paparazzi shielded Gabriel (this time).

I have to comment on this. I see how people think Martinez might have an anger issue, but really, did you actually see the footage for this? It is ridiculous! All this just because they are leaving the airport. Sorry but even celebrities don’t deserve this kind of intrusiveness, especially with a child.
As much as I hate them both but I can’t blame Olivier and Halle for this. I watched video. It was crazy. They just walking to their car. And paparazzi went crazy, with those flashes, screams…
I don’t understand why celebrities won’t file complains. They violently harassing them. It’s one thing when they take picture from other side of the street. In another when they scream and blind celebrity with flashes. How traumatic it is for kids when random people suddenly yell at you.
On the other hand Halle just needs to move to another town if she cares about her kid.
Not only that but you see a pap grab OM when he’s trying to put Nahla in the car. The paps crossed that fine line first and they literally shoved cameras in their faces. At least SOME paps keep a respectable distance when taking pics of kids.
You guys should at the very least provide the video of the incident floating around the web. The PAP GRABBED OM while he had Nahla in his arms putting her in the car and he defended himself and Nahla and HB intervened. What Father or Step Dad to be wouldn’t defend a little girl? I think Gabe would give 100% approval for OM to defend Nahla if he’s not present. The paps were at fault this time. At the very least, they should keep their distance and their hands to themselves.

Halle always seem to date guys who have issues. Even this guy, he seems controlling. She needs to be single and enjoy being a single mom for a while.
I finally watched the video. The articles about what happened are fairy tales (In which Halle is the ice queen spouting profanity, & OM is her personal guard, an ogre who attacks anything that moves).
It was presented as a near fist fight. Blinded by flashbulbs, They were just trying to walk fast & get out. OM didn’t touch anyone, just shook a pap’s hand off him when he was yanked with Nahla in his arms.
F*cking ridiculous. & we were all set for a hanging.

And I saw the video at TMZ. Halle had security but the papps of course outnumbered them and were extremely aggressive. I don’t blame Halle or Olivier in this situation at all. One pap guy grabbed Olivier and Olivier pushed his hands off of him. He didn’t hit him or anything like that. it was over in one second and Halle told him “No” as if to say don’t bother with him and they went in the car.
I know most are not fans of the two, but in this case, you don’t have to be a fan to see who were in the wrong.
if you are flying commercial-there is NOT a private exit of LAX terminal.
The only flight into LAX that can avoid terminal madness is Air Force One.
TMZ has the film footage – I don’t like either of these 2 people but the pap’s were all kinds of wrong for their behavior and I couldn’t really see him kicking anybody. He was carrying Nahla up to and into the vehicle. He was provoked for sure, but she pushed him into the vehicle to prevent him from fighting.
