Cate Blanchett, goddess: ‘People get so worried about what everybody thinks’

Cate Blanchett, goddess, covers the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar Australia, and these are some of the lovely photos from the shoot. While the fashion is questionable, Cate always brings her A-game and I can’t even see the clothes because I’m just so enchanted by her face. Bazaar put a large excerpt of the cover interview online, and you can read it here. Cate is mostly talking about fashion and her work in the theater. Some highlights:

Being criticized for her avant-garde style: “Couture is a cabinet of curiosities. It’s a place of experimentation and I think the red carpet is a great place to display it. I knew people would either hate that [2009 crochet] dress or really love it. People get so worried about what everybody thinks,” she says. “But I love Romance Was Born because they have a great anarchic freedom. We enjoy their company. They’ve had a couple of shows in the space here [at Sydney Theatre Company’s The Wharf] and they always come to our Christmas parties.”

Cate’s normal attire: An elegant white Armani business shirt (deeply unbuttoned) under a camel-coloured Donna Karan suit. She wears matching camel sneakers without socks. “This is all a bit old but I love it,” she says.

Cate on art & the theater: “Theatre is full of influences from other art forms and that’s what makes it extraordinary,” says Blanchett. “When you go to the opera, you come home talking about the voices. After the ballet, you talk about the dancers. But when you go to the theatre, you end up talking about politics, art, your marriage and your hopes and dreams. So as theatremakers we have to be engaging with artists from all different disciplines.”

[From Bazaar Australia]

She keeps her Armani business shirt “Deeply unbuttoned”. God, I love her. She’s all “I’m going to look professional, but with an edge. And boobs.”

Meanwhile, did you hear that Cate has scored a $10 million deal to become the face of Armani fragrances for women? Thank the lord that SOME designers actually want classy adult women to represent them (as opposed to whatever pop tart has just come of age). Cate’s print ads for Armani will be shot “soon” and I guess that means they’ll be ready in time for a Fall/Winter campaign? Also: Cate scored the lead in the HBO TV-movie adaptation of Marisa Acocella Marchetto’s memoir, Cancer Vixen. I would imagine La Blanchett will win all of the TV awards for that one.

Classy, witty, sensible, talented and beautiful. She should be the role model for the younger generation, instead of the likes of people like the Lohan.

    • Tanguerita says:

But that would require having a brain and talent (and actually using both), plus putting in a lot of hard work and discipline – and that over years.

      • Stubbylove says:

Agree with both of you. The bottom line is Cate knows who she is, which results in truth and real confidence. Some people have this, others don’t.

    • bob says:

Plus she doesn’t overuse that stupid open mouth expression like a gorm.

      GORM

      I hate it.

  2. aims says:

She is stunning. I love her.

  3. Mia 4S says:

    You’re completely right…goddess…nothing to add.

An actually talented actress with 3 children she doesn’t parade on a regular basis for photographers (but also doesn’t freak when they are photographed). She is phenomenal.

  4. Jane says:

She has such an ethereal quality. Very rare these days!

  5. Lauly says:

    She’s Galadriel! LOL

  6. WendyNerd says:

LOVE. HER. SO. FUCKING. MUCH. She can do no wrong in my opinion!

  7. Kaye says:

She is perfection and a PSA on the importance in taking care of the face/body you were born with instead of turning into some kind of Botox-y filler-filled robot. Beautiful!

  8. Lizzie K says:

Thanks for this article on luminous, lovely Cate!

I’ve never tried Armani fragrance, but I’ll have to see if I can at least get a spritz at the department store to see how it blends with my chemistry. I’m as cynical as they come about celebrity endorsements, but Cate absolutely can get me to try anything once.

  9. marie says:

she is stunning, beautiful face and attitude to match. I absolutely adore her.

  10. Kayla says:

She looks incredible on the cover!! Love her!

  11. paola says:

    Flawless.

  12. Leonie says:

Looks like the interview in the link is from 2011, not 2013, but it’s a great read all the same and I look forward to what the new interview holds!

  13. B says:

God I LOVE her! Flawless, stunning, & a great actress….words that are overused on others but perfectly describe Cate.

  14. bluhare says:

Cate Blanchett is one of those women with a face that can be drop dead gorgeous or totally ordinary, depending on how she wants to look. She’s got a real chameleon quality, and I love her look. I bet she can run around totally unnoticed when she wants to.

  15. annabelle says:

I worship her just a little bit.

  16. ladybert62 says:

I am in the minority here but I do not think she is pretty and these pictures do not do her any favors.

    She is an excellent actress.

  17. Lucy2 says:

I love her too. She is simply amazing.

  18. heatheradair says:

One more reason Armani has always been my favorite (for beauty products, anyway). Great stuff, classy advertising (I actually liked the Megan Fox underwear era), and now the Ethereal Blanchett….yay!

  19. NEENAZEE says:

Last night I stayed up late to watch Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age back-to-back… She. Is. Amazing. Ethereal. Chameleon-like. Stunning in her talent, her choices, her style. Thanks for covering some impressive examples of feminine glory too… we need it to balance out all the sad and ugly stories about the Kardashians, the Cracken and GOOP.

  20. c'est la vie says:

She’s a perfect example of what a celeb should and can be.

  21. karmasabiatch! says:

God, SO in love with Cate! She brings a level of fabulousness that is absolutely crazy and enchanting. I swear to God, if I wasn’t straight, Cate alone could turn me. ADORE!

  22. Gwen says:

    I love her <3

  23. Tania says:

More of this please. More Cate. More Tilda. More BOSS!!!

  24. megsie says:

    *sigh* Galadriel.

  25. Lucy says:

She’s like the anti-Gwyneth, or everything Gwyneth thinks she is/wishes she were.

  26. allons-y alonso says:

    ALL HAIL CATE BLANCHETT

  27. dweeb says:

Okay, obviously the same person or “clique” who works for this blog is being a tad too obvious….she’s not bad looking, and I like her style, but yeah, NO…she’s no goddess…nice cheekbones…but no eyes…and way too thin. GET REAL. most of you are probably as “attractive” as this woman. meh, minions.

    • mercy says:

Really? I think she’s stunning. Yes she has bold, slightly off kilter features, but I love that. As luck would have it, this story is sandwiched between stories on Kelly Ripa and Gwyneth Paltrow. All three thin blondes, mothers, around the same age, but that’s where comparisons end. Of course this is a mag photo and the other two are candids, but I’ve seen candids of Cate and she always looks so fresh faced and unique compared to GP and the rest.

    • xxx says:

Err…. No. Just no. I’ve seen this woman in real life and she GLOWS. It is uncanny. She was just sitting in a cafe and you couldn’t take your eyes off her. Her skin is so incredible, it is like she is lit from within. Her bone structure is insane, and she is so, so beautiful. Plus, she is graceful, intelligent , talented, and all around fabulous.

  28. 4evaRedd says:

She always looks stunning, a kind of Grace Kelly quality. I like her best as a redhead and every movie she does her characters are totally believable — chameleon is right. I adore her.

  29. Steph says:

She’s really is stunning, and a class act besides.

  30. GreenTurtle says:

Love her. Her face has so much character. To call her beautiful…it’s an ordinary word for someone who is so vital and intelligent and graceful. Her personality really transcends her looks for me.

  31. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

They softened her features so much on the cover, she somewhat resembles Faith Hill…But when you see her profile in the other shots, she is way different. Just an observation. She is a fantastic actress.

  32. ??? says:

    Man, she is dee-vine.

I find her stunning for the exact opposite reasons most actresses in Hollywood are considered to be great beauties: She doesn’t fit the mold!

She’s not conventionally good-looking — she doesn’t have the big doe eyes, or particularly full lips, or a teeny tiny nose. She’s imperfect (though she did score big-time in the cheekbones department). Raw and with an edge sometimes. Soft and elegant at others. But everything about her look always works together in perfect harmony.

Her features have just as much range as she does as an actress!

  33. Mazunte says:

This woman is everything an actress should be. Period!

  34. Jay says:

Cate Blanchett is how I know there is a God. Ugh. She is just so perfect. Intelligent, classy, graceful, poised, eccentric, unafraid, talented. Flawless.
