Nicole Kidman is the new face/feet of Jimmy Choo: good choice or bad branding?

OMG. Here are some new photos of Nicole Kidman at the Cannes Film Festival Jury Dinner last night – today is the opening day of CFF, and guess what? Kidman is on the jury! That means for the next twelve days or so, we’re pretty much going to have a Nicole Kidman fashion post. Was Diane Kruger on the jury last year, I think? And remember how many photos there were of her? Remember how everyone was like “seriously, ENOUGH with Diane Kruger”? That’s what it’s going to be like this year with Nicole.

And trust me, Nicole has come prepared, probably even more prepared than Kruger. Nicole will be wearing the best, the most noteworthy, the most headline-grabbing ensembles. At least that’s my hope, because I’m really looking forward to covering some noteworthy Cannes fashion this year. This Jury Dinner ensemble isn’t stunning me – I don’t know the designer ID, but Nicole wears a lot of L’Wren Scott, and this could totally be L’Wren. And I’m pretty sure the shoes are Jimmy Choo, because Nicole has just been named the new face (feet?) of Choo:

NICOLE KIDMAN is the new face of Jimmy Choo. The Oscar-winning actress will star in the brand’s autumn/winter 2013-14 campaign – the first since Sandra Choi took over the helm as sole creative director.

The imagery was shot last month by photographer Mikael Jansson and is described as having “a cinematic feel that hints at the power and seduction of the Jimmy Choo woman”. The adverts will premiere globally in August issues.

“I’ve always loved fashion and often use it as a way to get into character,” said Kidman. “There is a lot of complexity, mystery and femininity to the Jimmy Choo woman.”

The 45-year-old has previously acted as a brand ambassador for Omega watches and Chanel No.5 fragrance.

“I’m such a great admirer and feel enormously honoured to be working with Nicole Kidman,” said Choi. “Nicole is one of the finest actresses in the world, who I knew could convey the empowered glamour of the brand. But she is also so nuanced and refined; she brings an attitude of defiance, strength, sensuality and elegance.”

The Vogue cover girl was recently announced as a member of the Cannes Film Festival jury, so we’re expecting to see plenty of scene-stealing footwear gracing the Croisette.

Huh. Now, if you wanted 2001 Kidman to represent your brand, I would completely understand. But I don’t get how 2013 Nicole still manages to score major, lucrative advertising gigs. Her personal branding is “off” these days, and when I think of Nicole, I do not think of shoes. Now, Diane Kruger? I totally think of shoes. Kerry Washington? Shoes. Rachel Weisz? Shoes. But Nicole? Clothes… but not shoes.

More photos of Nicole in Cannes… God, she freshly jacked the hell out of her face for Cannes, didn’t she? Damn it, Nicole.

Did she get a new, bigger set of boobs put in as well?

    • Apples says:

      Yeah, I noticed that…

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I first noticed it in The Paperboy. She most def. got them done.

      • dvz says:

I remember her first boob job was rather subtle, like her first limp enhancement was. Now she’s gone too big in both departments.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        They’re really noticeable now and I’m not a fan. Kinda cheap-looking :/

      • Camille (TheOriginal) says:

Yep, definitely look like new/bigger implants.

    • Oh dear says:

Te face is so bizarre, she almost looks demonic in some of these shots.

    • TC says:

Beware – a demented life size blow up Nicole Kidman doll has been spotted wandering the streets of Cannes!

  2. Jayna says:

The first photo is odd (can see the filler), but the rest are gorgeous of her. That’s the thing with fillers. Maybe you look good face on, but from other angles can look very strange. Love-love her hair. The dress is stunning on her, but those shoes are to die for.

  3. Lex says:

Perhaps they are trying to appeal to an older market? Young bitches will always be buying Jimmy Choos – maybe they want to show that more mature people can wear them too?

    • Dingo says:

Thats good marketing strategy women 40+ got the money.

      • Lex says:

Precisely – often ‘older’ women are embarrassed to buy the ‘young’ brands as they think they’ll look silly (bar Kris Jenner who actually wears her kids’ clothes….). It is a good way to show the women that they can and should wear the hot shoes!

      • Itsjustblanche. says:

Exactly. I’m on my 40s and jimmy choo basics are my favorite. Even the purses are tempting although for the price you can buy prada.

    • Sabrine says:

Nicole looks just gorgeous in these photos, that beautiful dress she’s wearing. I don’t know what she did to her face but that’s good work and she is perfection.

I love that a more mature person is going to be representing Jimmy Choo instead of the usual 20 year old bimbo. That’s smart marketing to cover all age groups.

  4. Buckwild says:

She looks lovely. I hope she wears some bolder looks, I loved her in that red satin ball gown during Moulin Rouge. She is a fashion icon but has a tendency to dress like an older Taylor Swift (sparkle, nudes, glitter, lace).

    • Andrea says:

She was at the height of her beauty when she made Moulin Rouge. She had thin lips and small breasts and she was drop dead gorgeous just being herself.

      • Jayna says:

I agree. Though, her lips were enhanced just a little then but in a good way as they were way too thin in Far and Away when she was younger. She was so stunning in Moulin Rouge. That movie was shot in a very unique way. He did tons of close-ups and she was breathtaking in every close-up. I was obssessed with Nicole back then. She was so classically beautiful and brilliant in that movie. It’s when I was bowled over by her talent as an actress, going from comedy, farce, drama, and heartbreak in one movie and pulling it off seamlessly.

  5. Anna says:

This brand collaboration does seem a bit off (esp bc Nic usually wears Manolos or Loubs) but in a way that’s not likely to harm either party. Both are viewed as up-market, as fashionable. No special ‘spark’ but could be worse?

As for her Cannes look, while I do love Nic with a bold red lip, her face does look extra Stepford Wife-plastic.

  6. Anna says:

@Kaiser – there is no such thing as too much Diane Kruger fashion porn! Blasphemy! Three of her gowns from Cannes 2012 have entered my ‘fave red carpet gowns of all time’ hall of fame. I am hoping Nic will bring just as much drama and variety.

    • Lex says:

True there is never too much DK especially when she brings her super sexy bf along! 😀

      • TG says:

Agree with both of you Josh and Diane are so cute together and I love her fashion.

  7. Andrea says:

I think it’s awesome that a 45 year old woman is the face for a designer brand. We need more of that.

But yes, I miss Nicole’s old face.

Why did she feel the need to get full lips? Her old lips fit her face beautifully. She was stunning just as she was. 🙁

    • V4Real says:

I like this Bitch. I don’t why, I just do. Maybe b/c she’s marrried to Keith Urban who I adore or maybe b/c she’s not to in your face.
I agree with you that her old lips were just fine .

      • sharylmj says:

ME TOO… it must be Keith’s good lovin’ that’s making her look so happy 🙂

    • Jayna says:

Well, her old lips, very young, were pencil thin. You’re thinking of her modestly enhanced lips before and still around the Moulin Rouge era. She filled them just a little and still had her natural cupid’s bow shape to her lips. Then as time went on these last years she kept doing them bigger and bigger and seems to have lip dysmorphia. LOL. These women with their lip obsessions, once they go big on the trout pout, anything else looks too small. It’s too bad, because the way her lips were before were so pretty.

      • V4Real says:

Jayna you’re right I just looked at her Days of Thunder lips and they were smaller than the MR lips.

  8. hadleyb says:

I think she looks great! Love the hair, she looks like she put on weight but it looks good on her.

And I am glad they hired a woman past 30 for their brand.

Honestly when I think of Nicole Kidman I always think fashion, and that includes shoes.

The other women mentioned? Not really.

The only other person I could see would be good for the brand is SJP. Now her I think shoes, bags and clothes. No matter her age.

    • Butterfly J says:

SJP is definitely adventurous with her fashion. I only wish she’d change-up her hair. It seems like many people love her hair, but I think it ages her terribly. Just my opinion…

    • bluhare says:

Man, and here I am thinking her hair’s been fried to hell and back.

      • Mauibound says:

I liked it better when she’s more full on red. Agreed it does looked fried

  9. Micki says:

…”But she is also so nuanced and refined; she brings an attitude of defiance, strength, sensuality and elegance.”

If he sees her so I don’t get how she can be bad branding.
Plus she’s more believable in this segment than say…Lively trying to sell Chanel bags.

  10. Nikollet says:

Wow, she looks crazy in some of those pics. Her top lip frightens me too.

    • lady mary. says:

yeah ,she should have never touched those lips ,its totally blotched up ,i feel just really sad ,coz her red carpet fashion was swoon worthy with her beautiful face ,she should have just allowed herself to age naturally,my all time favourite among her red carpet dresses :was her red dress with bow a t her neck by balenciaga

  11. Charlotte says:

When I saw the pics in the DM, I thought she looked so good I even remarked enthusiastically to my partner ‘Nicole Kidman’s face looks human! And really good! Not scary!’ Now that I see the pics up close on my phone…son, I am disappoint. Really need to start wearing my glasses at home more.

  12. serena says:

Dear god.. when will she realize botox is making her look like a monster.. I just hope she doesn’t pass this way of thinking to her daughters.

  13. epiphany says:

If she can move her feet more effectively than she moves her facial muscles I don’t see a problem.

  14. Louise says:

45? She could easily pass for 55…

  15. Willa says:

Did she get a boob job??

    • Jayna says:

A small one. I’ve seen her in plenty of nude scenes before her boob job and then a nude scene in the Hemingway HBO movie recently. And I forgot she had a boob job until someone mentioned it on here. They were barely any bigger. Maybe after the baby they deflated a little or sagged a little and she wanted one. But it’s well done and still small, just a little fuller. So she doesn’t have to wear pushup, padded bras anymore, I guess.

  16. ALG says:

New boobs, fresh lips, over-processed hair… not really seeing anything amazing from Nicole. Fake head to toe. It’s a shame what she’s done to herself.

  17. Miss so and so says:

He hair is awful! It looks like a wig in most of the pictures. She is so much prettier with her hair red and less flat ironed.

    • bluhare says:

Thanks Miss So and So. I’m glad someone agrees with me that her hair is awful.

  18. Dena says:

Both the dress & shoes look good on her but her face is scary. It’s too hard and too tight. She looks much more elegant when she has a more natural, softer look.

  19. Baskingshark says:

I think you guys made a mistake with this article. You seem to have accidentaly posted some pictures of a Nicole Kidman Caricature Bobblehead Doll instead of the actual Nicole Kidman.

    Oh, wait…

  20. dorothy says:

She’s back to the botox and fillers. Other than that, she looks amazing.

  21. TheOriginalKitten says:

I love Nic Kidman. I just watched The Paperboy a couple weeks ago and I still think she’s one of the bravest, most talented actresses still working today.

That being said, her face was definitely a distraction at times in the movie. She still did a good job with a pretty difficult part but her plastic-y face was something she had to fight against when evoking emotion. She should leave the tweeking to the Real Housewives because she’s better than that.

  22. sorella says:

Yeah I don’t think of her related to shoes. Nice dress and her hair can be hit and miss, often looks damaged/dry and flat-ironed it looks crispy too.

Too bad she f’ed her face. Too many fillers. And her nose is weird now, like Michael Jackson territory soon.

  23. Nibbi says:

i actually see her as being really high-fashion, classy, elegant (although generally trout-pout does hurt that a bit…) even very “expensive” so i don’t see why this would be bad branding for jimmy choo.

also, i was as disturbed as everyone else when she first started doing weird stuff to her face, but i think that here she really looks quite fresh and pretty. perhaps we’re just getting used to it. hm.

  24. DreamyK says:

Stunning. That dress fits her like a glove and she looks so relaxed and refreshed. And her smile doesn’t look as pained or botoxed as in the past.

  25. RHONYC says:

    DAY-UM @ PIC # 5!!! 😯

KEITH MUST BE, AS THE KIDS SAY, BLOWIN’ NIC’S BACK O-U-T!

SHE’S NEVER BEEN SO CURVY IN THE BOTTOM.

I GUESS THAT URBAN LOVIN’ DOES THE BODY GOOD (pass it on). 😉

  26. Christina says:

As a 40-something woman, I’m happy to see a design house choose a stylish ‘mature’ woman to front their products. I’m so tired of fashion houses signing up every 20 year old actress, no matter how unsuitable they are for high fashion (Jennifer Lawrence? Mila Kunis? really?). And Kidman is definitely a fashion icon, with a great sense of personal style.

So, overall a good choice, imho, but omg that face! For a time it looked as though she was laying off the botox, but now she’s worse than ever. She’ll be rivalling Priscilla Presley soon enough. And not in a good way.

  27. TOPgirl says:

She never looks happy anymore. I remember she looked really happy when she was still married to Tom Cruise but after that..it seems as though she’s doesn’t glow anymore.

  28. KellyinSeattle says:

She looks great and most of all, carries herself well. I’ve noticed that she keeps her kids out of the spotlight, too.

  29. Deanna says:

I think she looks great and very stylish.

Damn, but she gets all the really good contracts!! Chanel (lustworthy), Omega (double lustworthy) and now Jimmy Choo (I-have-no-words lustworthy)

I bet other actresses are pi$$ed!

    • Ianthe says:

Maybe Kidman’s an effective endorser for high-end brands???

Done a bit of research….here it is, after Chanel signed Nicole Kidman in 2003, it was reported that global sales of Chanel’s classic perfume jumped 30%.

As for Omega……she endorsed Ladymatic collection of watches – the company’s first collection of mechanical watches aimed exclusively at women – and the association has been so successful that Omega has launched a new line of Ladymatic watches a little over two years since the collection first appeared.

      Not bad, afterall!!!!

  30. Kristine says:

    She looks possessed.

  31. s says:

she looks slamming. 45 years old. Wow.

  32. Haystacks says:

I find candid shots of lady celebrities so alarming. Their heads are always too big for their bodies. It is very distracting.

    • Flower says:

An odd fact is that many film stars and models have disproportionately large heads (no pun intended) , which is apparently a good thing on camera. Small heads tend look a bit odd on the big screen as the camera seems to emphasis the fact. Leo di Caprio and George Clooney have to have motor bike helmets specially made made for them as regular sizes don’t fit.

  33. Flower says:

Her name will be good for the brand I think but her feet are a bit veiny and knobby, they will need a good deal of airbrushing if she is going to be featured in adverts.

  34. Wren says:

I love her, her face is starting to look a little tweaked, but her body is amazing and I think she looks great.
