Duchess Kate in a £1,285 Emilia Wickstead coat in London: sunny & lovely?

Here are some new photos of Duchess Kate, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Queen at Buckingham Palace yesterday. The Queen was hosting the “first garden party of the summer”. Kate wore a coat/dress by Emilia Wickstead – she’s worn Wickstead dresses and coats before, but we’ve never seen this one. This is a version of the £1,285 Marella silk coat. Kate also wore a Jane Corbett hat, pearl earrings and the same LK Bennett nude pumps she wears all the time.

What are your thoughts on Duchess Kate in yellow? It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Sometimes brunettes can pull off certain shades of yellow, and this sort of works. Kate looks very summery and fresh. As for her bump… have you seen all of those UK articles in which British style-makers have started taking her to task for not wearing appropriate maternity clothes? The Telegraph had a good piece about how Kate needed to stop wearing “flimsy” short dresses that blow up and show off her duchess beav, and that she needed to invest in some sober, conservative, LONGER maternity-wear in her last trimester. It’s funny because I bet you ten dollars that this Wickstead coatdress isn’t maternity-wear. As for the length of this coatdress… it’s fine. Kate tends to dress more conservatively when she’s around the Queen.

Kate is scheduled to make an appearance in June to christen a boat, and it’s widely considered that the appearance will be her last before “going on maternity leave” and giving birth in July. This appearance – at Buckingham Palace yesterday – was her first in a few weeks too. What I’m saying is that these photos might be the only time we see Kate in like three weeks. Except for all of the shopping, of course.

PS… is it just me or is she wearing less eye makeup now?

Actually, I LOVED that coat. (Not sure why but, her hat color is bugging me-seems a little off, could be a brighter white).

    • LadyMTL says:

I love that coat too, maybe because I can’t wear yellow at all so I’m envious? :p

And I get what you mean about the hat, it seems like it doesn’t quiiiiite go with the outfit but I can’t say why.

      • Poink517 says:

It looks to me like the shade of white is slightly off? I don’t know, but I agree, for some reason it doesn’t work.

    • FLORC says:

Wait. Is it a dress or a coatdress? Someone please help me with this. Is a coatdress as it sounds? A dress that looks like a coat? Is that popular there? I’ve never seen it before aside from on Kate.

    • bluhare says:

I think it’s because the dress is a warm tone and the hat is a cool tone. Which is why she doesn’t look awful, but it also doesn’t match the tone of the dress.

  2. Dawn says:

Stunning and appropriate as well. But I don’t believe I’ve seen a picture when she is not. And yes I like her lots, she shows how truly attractive pregnant women can be when they dress for it.

    • JenD says:

      +1

    • BooBooLaRue says:

This. Though I am a little tired of the fascinator look that the Brits sport, they usually just look silly.

    • littlestar says:

I don’t really like the “coatdress” she is wearing, but I think she looks really pretty here too! I like that she wearing a lot less eyeliner as well.

  3. GoodCapon says:

Charles and Camilla look wonderful in grey together!

As for Kate, at least there will be no chance of a Marilyn moment for her today. That’s something to be thankful for.

  4. Anna says:

I didnt like this hat the first time around and I dont now. But I love the sunny coat. I want to know what’s underneath!

    • m says:

It doesnt look like anything is underneath based off of pictures taken at a lower angle.

      • Anna says:

Nah, the Queen would shank her

      • FLORC says:

        Anna
The Queen is so awesome in this way. She doesn’t say a word. She’s just watching as Kate takes enough rope to hang herself with. I like that smart, but b!tchy quality in people. They don’t vocally disapprove of that person, but they will not help them when they’ve carried on so carelessly ignoring all the rules.

      • MinnFinn says:

ITA she’s commando under there and would bet my last dollar on that.

    • It is a coat that she had converted into a coat-dress. The coat is still for sale MatchesFashion.com. I’d post the direct URL for it but I am afraid the filter would think it SPAM. In the retailer website search engine, just type “Marella silk coat” and it will be the 1st one to show in results.

  5. Karen says:

Love the color. She always looks very nice in primary colors. The only minus is that I wish she wore a dress underneath that skimmed the bottom of the coat. I’ve been jaded by flashers; I doubt the duchess is going commando.

Also I think this is one of the best looks for Camilla I’ve seen.

  6. gogoGorilla says:

I admit to being a total Kate apologist, but this coat? Blech! Totally mumsy. Maybe it would work with an awesome shoe and without the frightful hat thing, but as is, I think it looks totally blah.

The only good thing I got is – it’s not as short as everything she’s been wearing lately, so I guess it’s new and the right size, rather than a repurposed something that was already in her closet.

    • Coconut says:

ITA. Those LK pumps are do tired and blah. Just read in Vogue that platforms are out. I can’t stand the tan hose with the lighter shoes. I don’t like the dress but it would’ve been way cuter with say bone colored hose and little pointy purple pumps.

      • FLORC says:

With shoes Kate does it right! She has the essentials for all occasions and then some. I love most of her boots. She has some black and nude heels that go well with most colors and styles. I will disagree with some of what Kate does, but she is good with shoes and doesn’t deserve the criticism for not buying more shoes for you shoe pr0n fanatics out there.

What more do you need besides the staples for day/dinner/leisure/workouts anyways?

      • Janet says:

Pointy little pumps aren’t all that comfortable to walk in, especially when you’re seven months pregnant.

  7. wowsa says:

Kate is adorable. I wish she would lay off the heavy (and dated) black liner though.

    • StormsMama says:

      Agreed.

It just highlights how tired she looks. And I’m not suggesting that’s a bad thing- looking tired is inevitable when you’re preggo- at least it was for me- but the eyeliner? Bad idea.

  8. Kelly says:

I love the coat. Love yellow now as an adult for some reason. The hat is cute but doesn’t seem right for the yellow though.

It’s still hard for me to believe that she and Kim Kardashian are due at the same time.

    • FLORC says:

KimK and Kate are not the same person metabolism-wise or the way they “earn” their income. Other than that there are a million comparisons.

The hat seems off to me.. I feel like if she had her hair up in a low, loose bun it would have been nicer on the hat.

  9. mary says:

is the price of her clothing important or significant?

to me, it’s not, but maybe in the UK they are interested in that sort of thing?

Just curious why the price in pounds is usually accompanies the photos of this woman…

    • Angelic 20 says:

Because we are paying for her clothes and we like to know how much she is costing us every time she’works’ .

    • Karen says:

Its $1,826 at Browns for conversion. I think UK people would care. Her clothing budget is from Charles and his money is from the people. They’ve openly stated unlike celebrities Kate will not take freebies.

      • m says:

Kates version is custom so its more like $5000.

      • FLORC says:

        Karen
Can’t Kate accept freebies as long as she doesn’t endorse them or wear them to events? She’s getting them all the time and maybe they’re being stored away until they get destroyed, but something tells me she gets them and regifts to.. say her family. I wish they would donate:\

      • LAK says:

FLORC – it doesn’t matter when or where she wears them. Royals aren’t allowed to accept freebies.

On the flipside, if the sender chooses to give the ‘gift’ at a discounted price, that is welcome.

      • inthekitchen says:

I think they get about a 99% discount, essentially making it free. Just MO, though, no evidence to back this up.

      • FLORC says:

        LAK
Loopholes for every rule, I guess.

  10. INeedANap says:

Sure, they’re nice coats, but she has a uniform. Not that there’s anything bad with that, but for all the shopping she does her fashion seems dull and lazy.

  11. mkyarwood says:

The Telegraph article is obnoxious. We know what kind of woman Waity is (for now) so just leave it. Once the baby gets here, it’ll be different.

    • FLORC says:

      Mkyarwood
How will it be different? She’s buying clothes that with tailoring will fit her well after the pregnancy, but i’ll bet my bottom dollar she will continue to shop like crazy. She may wear her maternity clothes as a fluff pr piece. There are many nannies that will be taking care of the baby. Sure Kate will love that child and love showing it off, but will the maternal instincts come out? Maybe. Doesn’t mean that the nannies won’t do the bulk of the work until they get shipped off to school.

If anything will be different her shopping bill will at least double since she’ll be shopping for 2 and she might add a baby related charity to her portfolio. Will she visit them more than once a year? Who knows.

  12. Jess says:

I’m not sure she’s wearing less eye make-up, it looks like she’s just swapped out some of the black for softer greys. Now if she’s just stop with the harsh. unblended lines on her bottom lash line she’d look lovely.

I’m more excited by the fact she didn’t do her usual 80’s era stripe of blush. Maybe she finally figured out how to use make-up brushes.

  13. Talie says:

The Telegraph needs to mind their business and stop trying to make this 30 year old woman into an old maid.

    • Mich says:

How would wearing high end maternity wear turn her into an ‘old maid’?

    • Kitten Mittens says:

I’m not a crazy follower of Kate, but even I know Kate dresses herself as an old maid at times. Wanting her to add some inches to her hemline in the presence of the Queen, representing her nation, following a dress code that only she refuses to follow, and not flashing her privates at us (again) is just making her look like a child. Not an old maid.

If anything it’s about showing some respect to the people that pay for your everything and representing her country when in the presence of diplomats.

It is the telegraphs business. Kate is 30 (31?) and a public figure. It’s not unfair of them to ask her to dress appropriately and not some high school girl that got knocked up and is still trying to wear her old dresses.

  14. V4Real says:

I don’t comment much on posts about Kate but being married to the Prince must have just as many downs as it does ups.

Some of the clothing she has to wear such as that coat is horrendous. I remember before the engagement she used to dress normal with no rules on how to dress but now she has to have every article royalty approved. But I’ve noticed sometimes she breaks the rules.

One last thing while she is an attractive woman, some of the attire and make-up she wears makes her look much older than a woman in her early thirties. Looking at these photos I would think she was in her early 40’s.

    • Sabrine says:

That coat is hideous, ugly matronly pattern, like something the Queen would wear. I don’t think I’ve seen her in anything that looks any worse than this.

    • bluhare says:

I just want to point out that she didn’t *have* to wear that coat. She has a lot of clothes from which to pick, so she obviously likes it.

  15. HappyMom says:

I love the color. This way she actually stands out and people can see her. The Queen always has small weights sewn into her hems-hence why she has never had a flyaway skirt problem. Kate’s clothes are more “off the rack” but maybe she should consider that-especially if she’s going to keep wearing shorter skirts.

    • Thinker says:

Common misconception based on the myth of the “frugal” Duchess. Kate has absolutely every garment she wears, whether from the high street or from a designer, professionally tailored for an ideal fit and a more polished look. If she cared about keeping her hemlines in place all it would take is a word to her tailor about sewing some light weights into the hemlines of her dresses, and voila! No more up-skirt shots.

      • bluhare says:

Frankly, it’s hard for me to believe a tailor employed by the royals wouldn’t suggest weights.

      • vava says:

I disagree about the perfect tailoring….she’s moved buttons on a coat that threw off the lines entirely……no tailor would do that. She looked really tacky in that one.

And there is a reason why maternity wear is made – because it fits properly. Kate’s wardrobe throughout this pregnancy has looked horrible because it isn’t properly tailored for her changing body shape.

      • LAK says:

Bluhare – You can’t really blame the tailor when tailors in general, even royal ones, do only what is asked of them. It’s not their job to presume how clothing is to be worn.

That job belongs to a dresser, who also has to anticipate things like car exits and or weather conditions and advise or adjust clothing accordingly. Kate need never trouble herself with these things if she employed a dresser.

That said, Emilia Wickstead has shoddy tailoring skills if all these designs on Kate are anything to go by. The fit is always off.

Kate should stick with Jenny Packham and McQueen for her bespoke clothing. The fit is always beautifully done.

      • bluhare says:

LAK: But what if someone doesn’t have a dresser? Wouldn’t it then be within their bailiwick to suggest weighting a hem? They’d just let her go out there without even suggesting it?

      • LAK says:

B – It would seem that some London designers [if not tailors] have taken your very reasonable suggestion to heart…..

        http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/london-life/jenny-packham-on-dressing-the-duchess-of-cambridge-8181264.html

        This passage:

“Jenny Packham usually receives notes of thanks from brides whose dream dress she has created, but now she is designing for the Duchess of Cambridge she has received a rather different type of letter. “I had a little handwritten letter from a lady in Wisconsin passionately criticising me for the primrose yellow shift dress I made for the duchess,” says Packham. “She said didn’t I know about putting weights around the bottom of a hem, so it can’t blow up?”

The duchess wore the dress at an airport while touring north America, and the wind blowing up the runway revealed rather too much of the royal legs. “Well, I didn’t know it was going to be worn on a windy runway,” laughs Packham. “But I did think maybe in future I will put in more weighting, just in case…”

        Just in case indeed!!!

  16. Shelley says:

    Camilla outdressed Kate.

  17. Eugenia says:

I hate fascinators. HATE! But I like the coat and she looks nice in yellow. Pregnancy agrees with her. The beige court shoes are a bit tragic but I understand it is something she can’t help.

    • vava says:

What do you mean she can’t help it with regard to the shoes? LOL, this woman lives to shop, why doesn’t she get some interesting shoes for a change? And why the sky-high heels all the time?

      • bluhare says:

If I recall correctly, an institute had a shoe designing competition, with Kate picking the winner and getting the shoes. They were blue, is all I remember and they’ve not been worn.

      • FLORC says:

        Vava
The heel length bothers me. She’s often on grass and will sink right in. I’ve had heels ruined by grass and dirt stains:(
And she’s already above average in height. to add more inches means she looks down to people in conversations. If she wore only slight heels it would still look nice and she could be eye level during conversations. Also, her posture is bad, but tends to be worse when she laughs. A smaller heel length might also help with that.
As far as her shoe taste…I like it. I’ll criticise her for spending too much on frivolous things. I won’t criticise her for not shopping enough.

    • V4Real says:

I agree with you about pregnancy looking good on her. This is probably how Kim K had hoped she would look pregnant.

  18. Scarlet Pimpernel says:

The cut and the colour make her look frumpy.

  19. Inconceivable! says:

I wonder if the hat is covering her forehead since the Botox has undoubtedly worn off now.

  20. HH says:

I think she looks nice here. The only thing that bothers me is the semi-permanent position of her hands; always holding tight to her clutch in front of her stomach, and if she doesn’t have a clutch she clasps her hands in front of her in the same position. This is not due to pregnancy, she’s done this pose for a while now (however, it is more pronounced due to the pregnancy). Is this to prevent her from fiddling in her hair? Or to make her look dainty?…Or dignified? Perhaps it’s just a nervous habit. I don’t know, but it’s odd almost to the point of robotic.

    • MinnFinn says:

I wondered the same thing about her hand position. I think it’s intentional (part of her princess training) because William often does it too.

  21. Renee says:

    She looks lovely as usual.

  22. The Original Mia says:

Yuck. Don’t like the color and it’s too short. Again. She’s trying to outshine the Queen. Hated the hat the first time around.

    • Izzy says:

I agree completely – too short. It’s fine when her arms are down, but if she has to raise her arm or hand above her waist? Dangerously close to a wardrobe malfunction!

  23. melmel says:

That first photo of her shows how horrible her black rimmed eyes are. Also I think she looks good when whe wears her hair in a low bun. something different.

  24. RobN says:

These people all look awfully happy lately for a bunch of people who generally seem pretty sober. Makes me think they all just found out it was a boy. Camilla looks pretty great, here.

  25. India says:

Uhmmmmm, what’s up with her slamming her clutch against her crotch? That’s really weird looking. And again, the coat is way too short. Why can’t she wear her clothes at an appropriate length? She is such an exhibitionist.

  26. teehee says:

First I was disappointed and bored with her, now I’m starting to get annoyed. She always looks so flimsy and flopsy and without substance in her face or eyes, just… putting on a quaint show and no depth….. and its getting annoying. I do wish Harry does a lot better and brings credibility and star power back to the royals.

    • Elly says:

I know. I can´t warm to her too. I´m trying(!), but she irritates me. She is so “designed”, nothing real. She always looks and behaves the same (clothes, grinning, hands), you can see zero personality. Something isn´t right, something is missing.

  27. Itsjustblanche. says:

Looks amazing. That coat is adorable.

  28. Sachi says:

Camilla looks divine, right down to the brolly. 😀

Kate looks so-so. Horrid makeup as usual.

Doesn’t she already have a coat from Mulberry that has this same tweed-like design? She wore it last month. That Mulberry also cost more than $2000.

So almost $5000 for 2 non-maternity coats that are very similar in design and cut, only different in colour and designer brand?

Is she even wearing a dress underneath the coat? She doesn’t look to be wearing any, judging by that photo of her touching her ear and the coat is riding up very high on her thighs. No dress, no slip.

    • bluhare says:

Camilla does look great doesn’t she? And she can hold an umbrella AND a bag! Interesting Kate doesn’t think she needs an umbrella, but both Charles and Camilla have one.

I really do hate the bag in front of the crotch thing. I didn’t much care for it before she was pregnant and really don’t now. And it doesn’t look like she has a slip or anything under that coat.

She does look better in yellow than I would have thought though. Generally I think she looks good, especially for someone as far along in her pregnancy as she is.

      • Sachi says:

I think she does that pose to show off Diana’s ring. But she’s often holding her hands in front of her even when she’s just walking, which makes her look awkward and her awful posture even more pronounced. Maybe it’s just a way to prevent herself from flipping her hair 10x in 2 minutes?

The colour of the coat is nice. The only issue IMO is that it looks so boxy on her. The cut itself is dull and boring. But this is better than the seafoam Mulberry coat that made her skin look sallow.

      • bluhare says:

Sachi: Interesting takes. Although you’d think we realize she wears Diana’s ring by now. She must feel quite insecure in her position, which is quite interesting now I think about it. But if she does feel insecure, why doesn’t she do more to please the Queen with her wardrobe? We all know what the Queen thinks; otherwise there wouldn’t be all that dress code stuff out there.

  29. christinne says:

that hat and the way she wears it….i just cannot… and her maternity style is like she is trying really hard to hide the fact she is pregnant. normal maternity clothes will show the bump more. IMO by choosing larger non-maternity clothes she is trying to distract from the bump and show whatever part of the body is skinny enough for her: her legs… she would look so cute with some summary decent maternity dresses and pops of color. and she would still be skinny and pretty….

  30. Thinker says:

The work shy Duchess has been bothering me less now that her Chav siblings are famewhoring their way around London. James Middleton and his sleazy grimace, Pippa and her perpetual frown. Don’t act like you don’t love the paparazzi. They’ve both hooked some very attractive arm candy which they parade around pinky signet rings in the air at all times. Tacky, tacky, hideous, and tacky.

  31. Angelic 20 says:

The old and frumpy step mother in law outshines the so called fashion icon, Camilla looks amazing and even more when compared to Kate.

  32. Angela says:

I have given up on commenting on Kate’s outfits. As I sound like a broken record stuck on “far too short”. And she has done well to turn up don’t want to be mean (esp about the hat haha)

The star of the day though for me was Camilla!! she looks great, the cut and colour of the outfit with the over the top hat – just love it. Reminds me of the queen mother who was an over the top dresser.

    • bluhare says:

Me too, Angela. My first thought was “couldn’t she drop that hem an inch or inch and a half?” but I’ve said that (or a version thereof)forever. I’m tired of saying it, and apparently Kate loves the way she looks, so whatever floats her boat I guess.

  33. Decloo says:

God, I wish she would lose those shoes!

    • rachael says:

God I wish she’d lose those veneers!!! That blinding, fake smile gives me a headache.

  34. Lemony says:

She pulls off the yellow color very well. My mom has the same coloring & she looks amazing in yellow. As a strawberry-blonde I look terrible in yellow, unless it’s a deeper, mustard-y shade, coupled with darker separates or accessories.
I’m jealous of her earrings. I love a simple, pearl-drop earring. I had a pair for many years, smaller pearls than Kate’s, that belonged to my grandmother. Sadly, one has gone missing, likely during the move from WI to MN.
I’m gonna have the remaining earring made into a simple necklace, but now I need a pair of earrings 🙂
Oh, & I like how Charles & Camilla coordinated colors.

    • rachael says:

Presumably your mum is older than 31 ’cause this outfit is very matronly.

  35. Lulu says:

The coat is not fine, it is still well above her knees. To dress like that in front of her father-in-law is just awful IMO. At least be respectful, you know?

  36. Reece says:

That coat is only marginally ok as long as she keeps her arms down which we all know she won’t with the hair down. re: 5th picture. The color is pretty on her. The fascinator/hat is still hideous.
Also, I agree with the Telegraph article. Here the woman is wearing a larger sized coat as a dress instead of wearing effin maternity clothes! Honestly! smh I give up.

Camilla looks very nice. I don’t normally like matchy-matchy couples but her and Charles look cute together.

  37. Maggie says:

I don’t like the hat on her but everything else looks great. Especially the length of her coat!! She’s like a breath of fresh air compared to all of the other frumps. Awesome legs!

    • bluhare says:

Those other “frumps” have 30 years on her. And, seeing as you mentioned them, I bet she thinks her legs are fat.

    • Zozo says:

LOL. Breath of fresh air is probably what she likes to feel between her legs. Since she loooves these short clothes. 🙂

    • FLORC says:

Again! Why must people insult others to compliment Kate?
Why can’t it be enough to just say she looks good and not to add that everyone around her are “frumps”. I don’t get it.

    • GoodCapon says:

      +1 bluhare and Zozo! 😀

  38. Elly says:

the fascinator is sooo wrong for her face shape. Looks hideous.

  39. lisa says:

i’m in deep passionate love with this coat

  40. caitlin says:

“Maternity Leave”??! That’s an insult to women who actually do real work — as opposed to shopping, attending parties and being the figure head for various charities. Unlike other royals like Princess Anne and Sophie Wessex, Kate has yet to really roll up her sleeves and do meaningful work.

    • Aeryn39 says:

      +1!
I totally agree with you re: the Princess Royal and Sophie Wessex. And I love, love, love Camilla’s outfit – especially the hat 🙂

  41. gail says:

She smiles with her mouth, but her eyes say something else….
Oh, and the dress? Looks like something more suited for the Queen.

    • FLORC says:

      Gail
I love the science behind fake smiles and real smiles. The link won’t post so you should google how to spot a fake smile. Wise Geek and 3 easy ways to spot a fake smile are the 2 best links.
It’s all in the eyes! When a person is fake smiling their eyebrows won’t move the small amount they will in a genuine smile. Often a person will describe the person who faked a smile as having “dead eyes”. It’s a good and short read.

      • Gail says:

Thanks Florc! I read the Wise Geek one and it’s a good resource to use in real life scenarios too. With Kate, it’s not just the eyes — maybe it’s the veneers that add to the fakeness, but her mouth seems so stiff and forced when she’s pulling off one of her signature maniacal (sp?)grins.

    • MinnFinn says:

Sharp eye you have! Maybe the lack of expressive eyes is due to botox.

Her complexion looks so healthy which I assume is due to the fact that she stopped smoking? That and putting on a little weight makes her face less gaunt.

      • FLORC says:

        MinnFinn
I didn’t think she was still botoxing. Her skin is photoshopped to hell and back. On previous posts there’s a telling photo of her face. Old acne scars, saggy, baggy eyes and jowls, blotches of discoloration. She has seriously damaged skin. I had a friend from Germany that happen to see her walking and shaking hands down the line and she said her hair was broken and dull and her skin was terrible. The some photos were posted here and I saw what Kate looks like without Technological magic.
The weight helps her face, but she already looks totally different from her uni days from plastic surgery and the fact that the middleton women so not age well.

    • Suze says:

True, she does have a dead-eyed smile. Her eyebrows don’t tilt down, her eyes don’t get smaller, the skin at the corners of her eyes doesn’t crinkle.

I like the color of the coat, don’t like the cut.

Her skin has been great during pregnancy – and she does look better with her limbs filled out.

  42. Maeve says:

The hat doesn’t go with the outfit because the hat has more yellow in it’s white color, plus it’s texture doesn’t match the texture and the white/blue color in the coat.

I’m not a fan of Kate, but she looks good. God, what an improvement over KimK’s maternity style.

BTW is it just me or has anyone else noticed that since KimK has been with Kanye she has dressed in almost nothing but b&w (not counting the MetGala Puking Flowers Dress)?

    • FLORC says:

Yet again. No one can honestly compliment Kate without insulting someone else so Kate looks better by comparison. This is not a Kim thread.

  43. Flower says:

I’m sure Kate would like to do Chanel, Saab or Valentino sometimes like the rest of European royalty but its virtually forbidden. Clothes wise she’s expected to always fly the flag. I don’t have a problem with the shorter pregnancy outfits (as long as the don’t fly up), she has nice legs and ‘baby-on-board’ contours and knee length or longer dresses can make a pregnant woman look very matronly ,even frumpy.

  44. Belle says:

I can’t stand the coat (no offense to all those who love it), really can’t stand it. She does pull off the yellow color, but for the most part, not a fan of the color or the print/pattern.

Kate is really carrying her pregnancy beautifully so I don’t understand her need to distract from it, and show off her upper thighs. Seriously, that 5th picture of her where she is BARELY lifting her arm… *sigh*. I’ve said it before, and am soooooo not a prude, but I don’t think these short dresses, coats and/or dress-coats are appropriate at ‘official’ events.

  45. Lisa says:

She looks like she forgot to put her pants on, the hat doesn’t work with the outfit in tone or style and the shoes look like giant shiny bandaids. Why, why, why such bad taste?

  46. Zombie Shortcake says:

Lol She is wearing yellow because that’s QEII’s favourite colour; wants to do everything she possibly can to get in granny-inlaw’s good graces.

    • FLORC says:

I disagree. If she wanted to be in the Queens good graces she would work harder and would have joined her for christmas. Apparently, Christmas is the 1 time a year when the Queen insists on all family gathering for the day and W&K blew it off.

      • Zombie Shortcake says:

You’re right. I take back the “everything she can”- This is part of the bare minimum she has done to get in granny-in laws good graces. More like a “way after the damage” attempt.

  47. Maggie says:

Prigfest! Charles has his hat over his crotch too! Perhaps there’s a woody lurking beneath that hat!

    • bluhare says:

Prigfest?? Sounds familiar. Was it you calling us all prigs a while ago?

      • Maggie says:

I said some of the comments came off as priggish or something to that effect. That was just my opinion. You for some reason took it personally. Really at the end of the day…..who is she hurting by wearing her dresses a touch short? Where’s the harm? If her hemlines are so inappropriate the Queen would let her know. They all look happy and stuffy. Some of you hag on her constantly. She can do no right.

  48. Ayre says:

She looks lovely. I suppose I could quibble about the hat not quite matching the dress, but I find it rather endearing that she sometimes makes small mistakes like these. It seems fresh rather than forced. She’s not a perfect glossy show pony, just a very well groomed woman under an intensity of speculation that boggles the mind. In my opinion the coat dress is not too short, though of course that kind of thing is very subjective. It must be hard to hit the perfect length that keeps a pregnant body from looking frumpy (as can happen if you do knee length over a belly) and will always look perfect from every angle.
