Here are some photos of the LA premiere of The East, that environmental-thriller starring Brit Marling, Patricia Clarkson, Ellen Page and Alexander Skarsgard. I’m just choosing to discuss the photos of Alex and Ellen because they are SO CUTE together. I still have no idea if they are actually together, if they are friends with benefits, if they’ve been secretly hooking up this whole time, or if they are just friends and he’s never put the p in the v. I don’t know. There are rumors about Ellen’s sexuality (as in, she’s only into ladies), but she’s never verified or confirmed anything and if “rumors” were proof, everyone in Hollywood is gay.
Some backstory: soon after Ellen and Alex worked together on The East, they were spotted hanging out around LA. They took in a few games, they partied together, they seemed to get along. It was adorable because she’s so tiny (I bet she’s barely above 5 feet tall) and Alex is HUGE. He’s super-tall and he’s just the giant Viking. Anyway, the rumors about Ellen and Alex subsided a little until they were at SXSW in March, when once again they seemed rather couple-y. And Alex and Ellen traveled back to LA together and he carried her bags at LAX.
So, what do these photos tell you? They tell me that Alex and Ellen are close. They enjoy each other’s company. The base of their relationship is probably a substantial friendship. But I also think there’s some attraction going on somewhere. Look at his hand on her side – obviously, he’s really tall and he’s having to reach down, but he’s almost touching boob in a lot of those photos. Huh.

It’s weird to me how much people try and push straight couplings on people who are clearly gay. The sooner we stop feeding into it the sooner the idea of beards will not be so prevelant.

I think it’s more apt to say “everyone in Hollywood is a little bent”. I honestly think that most actors/actresses have dabbled on both sides. Some arrive confused, some know what they’re looking for and some are convinced it’ll help their craft. I bet she leads him around on a leash or something 😉

I’m six feet tall (female) and when I was single seeing a short woman with a tall man really used to steam me up! But now that I’m married (to a six four guy), I’ve calmed down about it.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think the original comment was meant as any offense to shorter women.
As a fellow tall girl, there can be a lot of insecurity that comes with it especially if you’re not comfortable being taller than your partner. I interpreted the steaming to be more of a result of jealousy or disappointment that some tall men still prefer petite ladies. Not a judgement, but more of a ‘damn! am I even too tall for the tall guys?’ Maybe I’m projecting though since that’s how I felt in my younger days too. Although as a queer lady, let me tell you that the tall selection is even slimer! I’m lucky to have found my lovely and (nearly as) tall wife.
I don’t think they look “coupled up” at all. More like brother and sister affection than anything else.
I have said this before… I think he’s in love with her, but unfortunately, she’s gay. She looks at him like a big hunky bff that she likes to cling to and maybe even flirt with from time to time, but doubt she’ll ever sleep with him. I really do think she likes girls.

Ellen looks really pretty. I do not think they are a couple or that there is anything sexual. He is very affectionate and handsy with his friends. If you took only those pictures into consideration, then he’s banged a few of his co-stars and friends too. As much as people want/wanted this one to happen, I just really see them as friends. Now for skepticism: Never heard the gay rumor re: Ellen Page, but we’ve ALL seen ASkars type – blonde and twice Ellen’s height.
She looks like a very young and tiny version of Lena Olin. They’re both attractive and interesting but I say they’re friends.
the most telling thing in this photo, in terms of body language, is where his hand is…when a man holds a woman very close to her breast that way it’s a possessive gesture; but I would need to see their lower legs to make a full body language assessment. the only thing that makes me think that they are not romantically linked is that Alex keeps his love life on DL and does not want it in the public eye. this behavior with ellen, if it is romantic, would do exactly the opposite. Alex is european which is def a more touchy-feely culture, so the thing I would look out for when Alex is actually interested–look at the woman he is touching the least. men overcompensate which means that when there are cameras around he’s going to try harder to look like he’s not into her.
Another thing to consider with the hand/arm placement is the fact that he’s at least 6’4″, maybe an inch and a half taller, while she’s barely 5’1″. No matter how long his arms are, there’s a good chance he couldn’t place his hands on her waist unless he slouched or she stood on tippy toes (even with heels). But, I agree – I don’t think there’s nothing but friendship going on there. He’s always super touchy with his castmates/friends and he’s shown how comfortable he is with all of the East cast in the past events for the movie.
Their height has nothing to do with how he’s touching her. He could have very easily put his hand on her back and even curved his fingers a bit around her side without slouching and still look really friendly with her. He could have also curved his hand around her to the front of her shoulder in order to pull her towards him to be friendly. However, Alex is purposely slouching so far so that he can wrap his hand completely around the back of her body and all the way to the front of her rib cage. In terms of body language, that is a possessive gesture. Even Alex’s hips are positioned in a way that is more sexual than friendly. Ellen’s body language is the one that’s more indicative of friendship rather than something sexual.
Maybe this is the reverse of girls with their gay best friend. Where you’re allowed to be all touchy and flirty and he’s obviously just being polite, and you’re thinking maybe you’re just hot enough to tempt him and they’re not buying it.

I think the “Ellen is gay” rumours started just because she is more of a tomboy. At least with Zachary Quinto, he was always out with Jon Groff before he came out. If Ellen is gay, well then good for her. But there is no 100% proof.
There’s no proof bc it’s really, really difficult for actors (especially women) to be out in the open aboit their sexuality.
There isn’t any 100% proof, but there are definitely photos out there of her pretty seriously kissing a woman and I’m under the impression she was in a relationship with Clea Duvall for a while about 2 years or so ago since they were together a lot and there was this awkward vacation in Montreal where they got papped and then immediately split in opposite directions as if to avoid being seen together. That being said, while I think she is very likely not straight, she could also be bisexual. I think she maybe dated Ben Foster years ago? And in any case, she is obviously a private person who tries to keep her personal life out of the media.
Back when the rumors were first really heating up (around Juno maybe?) she hosted SNL and in the closing sketch she played Andy Samburg’s girlfriend who went to a Melissa Etheridge concert or something and kept going on about all of the amazing lesbian celebs and the hot girls and when he asked if she was gay her big line was ‘can’t I just hug a woman with my legs in friendship?!’ It was adorably hilarious and I always took it as a sort of confirmation of queerness but resistance to labels and a ‘let’s move on it’s not really any of your business’ type of comment on the whole media topic at the time.

It’s a friend of a friend of a friend thing, but I’m distantly acquainted with someone who went to high school with Ellen and says that in school she made no secret of her homosexuality. I’m quite sure she and Alex are just friends. And for those who are still hung up on him carrying her luggage at the airport, it was HIS luggage…he’s been seen lugging the very same bag through the airport at other times when Ellen was nowhere to be found.
What I want to know is if anyone else has noticed the change in dynamic between him and Brit Marling? In most of the photos taken at Sundance earlier this year, they were all affectionate and very touchy-feely. Always standing next to each other in group pics and in several of those portrait shots the way they were looking into each other’s eyes screamed intimacy. (I personally think they would make a gorgeous couple.) But in all of the photos taken over the past week at The East screening events, there is a noticeable coldness there when compared with the Sundance, and even South By Southwest pics. They’re never even next to one another in group shots. I get the impression something negative has occurred in their relationship between a few months ago and now. Go back and revisit the Sundance pics and compare them to the screening photos from the past week…I can’t be the only one who sees it.

Search for “Alex Skarsgaard and Brit Marling” under google images and see what turns up. I’m certainly reading interest on Brit’s part in those photos. She definitely seems into it. Alex, too, but it’s not as intense as what I’m reading off Brit.
There are tons of photos of Ellen Page with a girlfriend or two. Not sure if she’s had more than one serious girlfriend since she got famous, but the candid shots are out there.
As for Alex, I think he’s attracted to Ellen Page. He knows she’s into women, but that doesn’t necessarily stop the feelings.
