Jada Pinkett Smith says she would only leave Will if he ‘did something bad to the kids’

Jada Pinkett Smith covers the new issue of Redbook. I’m not crazy about the cover image, nor am I crazy about Redbook jamming so much extra stuff onto the cover. Jada also allowed the mag to photograph a purple-haired Willow. At this point, I really like Willow and I want her to grow up in peace, away from the spotlight, and I think that’s what she wants too. So I’m not sure why Jada continues to push her into photoshoots and appearances and such. Ugh. Anyway, you can see Redbook’s slideshow here and here are some highlights from the interview:

On why she would ever leave her husband, Will Smith:
“What is the thing that Will could do to make me not love him? That would make me abandon him? I can’t think of one. I’m sorry. Except if he did something bad to the kids – now we’ve got a problem.”

On how they find special moments in everyday life:
“We tend to find magic in the mundane. Picking Willow up from her girlfriend’s house at 9:30PM, and enjoying that ride together, then stopping at 7-Eleven to get some ice cream as a family.”

On not being interested in reality shows and tabloids:
“I have been affected by gossip and I know people who have been too. I’ve seen marriages destroyed by gossip. It is cruel. At the end of the day, all that matters is: Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? That is it, baby.”

On producing The Queen Latifah Show (premiering Sept 16th on CBS):
“It will be a cross between Oprah and Ellen – not serious but heartfelt…to help execute this idea for such an amazing artist is really pleasing. I’m able to be creative on a whole different level.”

[From Redbook]

I think Jada has been negatively affected by gossip and true, a lot of it isn’t fair. But some of the gossip was shady because IT WAS TRUE. Jada and Will really did have significant marriage problems and they really did spend more than a year mostly separated. And the gossip about the Smith family and Scientology is getting epic too, especially with the release of (box office bomb) After Earth. Several sites have noted that After Earth is pretty much Scientology propaganda, and if you begin to view the Smiths through the lens of Xenu, things become clearer, right? They are a Scientologist family. That’s why their kids are… that way. That’s why their marriage was struggling (and perhaps still is). That’s why everything around this family has gotten so strange over the past five years or so. They went full-throttle Xenu.

    that’s one homely little man

    Her face scares me.

  3. Nev says:

    Willow!!!!

    • Kristine says:

Are you sure you mean Willow and not mini Will? Holy shieet she looks like her dad. Creeepy.

  4. aims says:

Is that Jada’s mom? I disagree with about 95%of what comes out of her and Will’s mouth. I think they need to be leaders in their home, instead of having the attitude of, the kids are adults, do your thing. I will close this with a positive. Jada is hilarious.

And it’s a no brainer. Of course nobody should tolerate abusive behavior, ever.

    • littlestar says:

      I agree with you 100%.

Also, does anyone know if the Smiths have come forward and said “we are Scientologists”. I think they are just because of all the gossip that surrounds them about it, their behaviour etc, but I don’t ever recall Will or Jada confirming publicly that they are now Scientologists.

Scientology is a very strange religion/cult. My family had friends who became Scientologists. They let one of their daughters get married at 16 years old because they said she was mature enough (she divorced several years later, not surprisingly).

      • MissMoody says:

No they haven’t come right out and said it. In fact they have publicly shied away from mentioning Scientology but they opened a school a while back based on Scientology teaching methods. Also see Will and Jaden’s weird “patterns” interview, not to mention that Will and Jada’s parenting philosophy reeks of L. Ron Hubbard’s influence. They’re Scientologists.

      • mata says:

The Smiths started getting really involved in the CoS (opening their school) around the time that Tom Cruise brought a lot of negative publicity to it through his feuds with Matt “Glib” Lauer and his comments about Brooke Shields and her use of drugs for post-partum depression.

They watched Cruise’s career start tanking as a result, so they wisely decided to keep their involvement in Scientology quiet.

  5. Itsa Reallyme says:

What if he did something bad to you, Jada?
I don’t think Will is that kind of person but that was a weird statement she made.
I think this used to be a nice family and I feel sad that they’ve decided to go down this co$ road. I feel really bad for the kids because they both always look so unhappy in the spotlight.

  6. dorothy says:

    Earth shattering.

  7. Daahling says:

Omigaw Jada. Shut. The. _____. Up. Holy guacamole, with the marriage comments!

  8. Post-It's says:

Does putting their son in After Earth count?

  9. ZigZagZoey says:

“At the end of the day, all that matters is: Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? That is it, baby.”

GAG ME GAG ME GAG ME
WE KNOW you love what you see! And that IS all you care about.

OMG….Enjoying the ride together and getting ice cream as a family…LMAO….As IF you even EAT ice cream BITCH.

She makes me SICK. And I want her to SHUT UP.

So glad the movie is bombing. The kids annoyed me a lot the last year or two, but I’m actually starting to feel bad for them. They didn’t have a chance with that thing for a mother. She’s almost as bad as Kris Jenner.

    • marie says:

“at the end of the day..” I hate that phrase..

something nice-I will watch the Queen Latifah show, that lady’s awesome.

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I hate it, too. I thought I was only one. I hate ‘It is what it is’ but I’m entirely clear on why I have that negative response.

    • littlestar says:

100% agree with this too! And yes, they just need to let their kids be kids already.

    • At which 7-11 are we likely to see them?

Does she really think people believe that? Please.

  10. Erinn says:

WHY does this woman keep talking about her marriage then complain about the tabloids.

The things she says obviously are things that don’t really paint them in the best light – why say those things at all?

I really really don’t like this woman.

  11. epiphany says:

I absolutely buy that the Pinkett-Smiths are full on $cientologists – a big score for Tom Cruise. I also buy that their marriage will likely continue into the foreseeable future – no Katie Holmes style covert defections here. Why would either of them leave? Will and Jada can live essentially separate lives, see whomever they want on the side, but keep a stable family unit together for the kids.

    • QQ says:

THIS!!! Everything you said!! i was coming here to say : Why would they leave a successful business like theirs? Is a Brand, and really at this point in time there is SO MUCH MONEY Intertwined?!!!? Is cheaper to keep it as is and convenient too!

  12. fabgrrl says:

Does that even need to be said? “Do something bad to my children and we have a problem?” Isn’t that Parenting Rule 1?

  13. Sabrine says:

Jada looks really nice in these photos. The hair color softens her face and looks really pretty on her. I could care less if Willow colors her hair purple, surprised it was even mentioned. “Jada allowed the mag to photograph a purple haired Willow”…really? That’s an issue? It’s what kids do…duh..they dye their hair.

The only problem in this family is how to get Jaden to quit ruining his forehead with his extreme brow furrowing.

    • Lulu says:

Oh honey, to watch him hurts my Botox needy forehead!

      • Alita says:

You have me with the brow furrowing, such a right call. Ooh err, you’re doing the ‘I smoke dope’ face … thumbs up, you’re just so darned cool.

  14. Nessa says:

    Her. Face. Omfg.

  15. AlmondJoy says:

The pic with Jada, her mom and Willow is LOVELY. They really are beautiful. As for her comments… I’m tired of reading the strange things she says and I’m also tired of people picking apart every little thing she says.

  16. mayamae says:

Now that it’s pretty clear they’re Scientologists, I finally understand why they are pushing so hard to get their kids into showbusiness – with a CO$ education, there’s pretty much nothing else they can do.

Jada’s mom is lovely – too bad Jada looks older than her.

    • dj says:

Xenu all the way. Unfortunately, the kid (Jaden) cannot really do that. But if they keep buying his movies he may get better. Xenu is not g etting my movie $$$ though.

  17. babythestarsshinebrite says:

Well her face looks much better. imo.

  18. Mew says:

It’s like someone would suddenly actually for real to start believing in giant spaghetti monster. No wonder life is messed up.

    • Tara says:

Giant spaghetti monster… Mmmmm now I’m hungry. Do giant spaghetti monsters live at the spaghetti factory?

  19. Happy21 says:

She looks and sounds so, so fake. I cannot stand this woman one iota!

  20. Nerd Alert says:

That quote makes her sound like she has zero self-respect. He could beat you, Jada? Verbally berate you? Infect you with an STI? I’m not even going past the feasible here.

I think I’ve read too much about CO$, I could tell it was $cientology propaganda from the trailer.

  21. RHONYC says:

i’m not interested in reading the article, but i do agree with the redbook cover layout…they are trying a lil’ too hard to be ‘younger demographic-y’.

that aside…that 3rd Gen portrait of Jada, Willow & Grams is gorgeous!

it makes me wanna get one done with my girl & mom.

  22. Dedrie says:

Dead-beats my love.. we are married, had kids ‘n whoof.. and are prosperous so accomplished all that stuff.. move on from accusing us.., we aren’t bad, making it work.. snooze

  23. lucy2 says:

The only reason people talk about them is because they have put out SOOOO much private stuff out there. This is the woman who used to blab publicly about their sex life, and now won’t shut up about how she’ll never leave him and he can do what he wants.
Same with the parenting – if they keep talking about their parenting methods, people are going to react. Just be quiet if you don’t want everyone chiming in!

I will say I love the idea of Queen Latifah having a show, I really like her a lot. Jada better not try to convert her to CO$ though!

Jada’s mom is lovely, and the photo is nice. But Jada has messed with her once beautiful face too many times.

  24. Asiyah says:

I like the idea that what really counts is your opinion of yourself (when it pertains to gossip being circulated about you), but the fact that she keeps repeating this mantra over and over again makes it blatantly obvious that she isn’t happy with the reflection that stares back at her.

  25. Mrs.Krabapple says:

Not treating your spouse respectfully (and that includes cheating on them) IS “bad for the kids.” Because the kids grow up seeing that one parent has no respect for the other parent, and the other parent is a doormat who just takes it. That can mess up a kid more than divorce. But, whatever. It’s not like their kids ever had a shot of growing up normal anyway. I think she said once that the kids could only spend what they earned — and let’s face it, Hollywood doesn’t pay females as much as males, so her son can spend his wealth and her daughter can suck it. What great values.

  26. TOPgirl says:

I feel bad for Willow for looking like her dad.

  27. Dena says:

Hell, I wouldn’t get off the gravy train either until something truly horrible happened either. It’s not like she’s an in-demand as an actress. Hell, let’s be real!

  28. erika says:

he did do something bad w/ the kids….he made ‘after earth’….

    leave.him.now.

  29. LV says:

I don’t think she realizes how it sounds. I interpret it as not that she has zero self esteem, but that she’s publicly justifying a private contract that she made with her husband.

  30. dcypher1 says:

if they are scientologist then why cant they just admit it and come out of the xenu closet. everyone knows already whats the big deal. no one cares if their down with xenu.
