George Clooney versus Jean Dujardin: who looks hotter in vintage WWII uniform?

Back when Steven Spielberg wanted to film the definitive version of the Invasion of Normandy on D-Day, the French government wouldn’t let Spielberg use any of their locales. So Spielberg went to England and he made do with English resources for Saving Private Ryan. He did it again when he executive-produced Band of Brothers, which was mostly filmed in England too. At some point, the Queen was so happy that this Yank was bringing so much industry and so many jobs to England, she knighted him.

I was thinking of that when I looked through these photos of George Clooney filming The Monuments Men in England. Again, I’m pretty sure they’re using the English coast as a stand in for the French coast. The Monuments Men probably will be set in France, Germany, Austria, and maybe Poland. If it’s anything like the splendid documentary, The Rape of Europa, it should involve those countries and more. But I wonder if they’re just going to film the whole thing in England? And if that’s the case, I wonder if we’ll soon have to refer to him as Sir George Clooney?

I’m including photos of George (and his creepy mustache), John Goodman, Bill Murray, Hugh Bonneville and Jean Dujardin. The cast also includes Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett. “The Monuments Men” were a real group of art historians, art specialists and art restorers who were tasked by Gen. Eisenhower to recover and commandeer all of the artwork the Nazis had plundered from European families and from European museums. Can you believe that someone had the presence of mind – in the midst of World War II!! – to think about art? That art historians were drafted to serve their country with a special mission that sent them into the heart of Nazi Germany? Yeah. This movie is going to win a ton of awards. I’m kind of surprised to see Bill Murray playing along with the ensemble. And damn, Jean Dujardin looks HOT in uniform.

So they could have done that for WW II and not the Iraq war? Hmmm…

  2. T.fanty says:

I’ll take them both, please. That mustache is completely working for me. Then I’ll have pancakes in the morning with John Goodman.

  3. Marianne says:

    the answer is John Goodman….obvs.

  4. Dedrie says:

Well Jean Dujardin actually served in military before acting..

  5. Tessa says:

Is that Lord Grantham? What is this movie? It seems kinda crazy.

    • Miss M says:

Yes, he is in this movie. I think he replaced Philip Seymour Hoffman.

      • Amelia says:

I hope PSH is doing alright. What a top bloke.
Not complaining about seeing a bit more of Hugh Bonneville though, I loved Twenty-Twelve!
Off topic – it’s exactly 69 years to the day since the D-Day landings.

  6. Kaye says:

    Baby steps towards Bill Murray…

  7. Katie says:

George. I’ve loved him for so long that I can’t not love him, even though he prefers cheap-looking women and he climbs up on his soapbox a little too often. He just seems like the perfect combination of smart, fun, and good looking that I overlook his obvious faults. I like anyone that’s down for a good time and is a good drunk. lol

Is Jean Dujardin legit French? I’ve never heard of this person, but I’m such a francophile that he’ll be a close second if he’s from France.

    • Syko says:

Yep, he is. Very big star in his own country. He was in “The Artist”.

      • mandy says:

and he received the oscar for the artist last year !!! grrrrr (i’m french)

      • Katie says:

        @Syko – Oops! I thought his name sounded familiar…

@Mandy – Je suis très désolée! I obviously need to brush up on French cinema.

    • Bridget says:

It was last year’s Best Picture and was a pretty major Winstein Co release, in addition to Dujardin winning Best Actor.

  8. Guesto says:

Clooney should have stayed behind the camera. He is way out of his acting league amongst the quality that is Murray, Goodman, Damon, Dujardin and Blanchett.

And John Goodman for the win! Best pic ever!

    • Chinoiserie says:

Yes he is. He won Best Actor Oscar last year from The Artist you should see it.

    • Decloo says:

Wow! I totally disagree. I think, given an intelligent script (i.e. not those dumb ‘Ocean’ movies), he’s one of our great actors. This movie has a stellar cast. I can’t wait to see it!

  9. kiddo says:

Bill Murray is an excellent actor as well as a comedian.

    • gogoGorilla says:

      +1

I love Bill Murray! He is so awesome.

I agree Clooney should have stayed behind the camera, but many actors seem to think they’re a lot better than they really are, so…

  10. moon says:

Neither. Bill Murray for the win.

Jean looks better than George by a mile though.

  11. Audrey says:

I love that John Goodman is scratching his bum in his pic lol

I also love Bill Murray so much.

  12. Kate says:

    Jean Dujardin! Love him.

  13. DanaG says:

George Clooney all the way. He looks even better know he has lost that dead weight blondie. John Goodman looks pretty good man has he lost some weight.

  14. blannie says:

Jean all the way. He’s HOTTTTT in that uniform!

  15. Babette says:

I cannot wait for this movie! I’ve seen “the Rape of Europa”, have the DVD, and the accompanying book (which is much more difficult to get through due to its huge wealth of detail), and what the Nazis did, to Jewish art collectors and museums, was truly a rape. Some incredible works of art are still missing. The high-ranking Nazis were determined to destroy “subversive” works of art, and take “Aryan” works to populate new, Aryan, museums. It’s an incredible story, and I’ve read multiple books about it.

Now, to the gossip part, Dujardin is totally first place for me, with Clooney a hot second. Men in uniform are a slam-dunk, especially if they’re hunks to begin with. Dujardin’s look is deliciously retro and I love it.

  16. Emma says:

The only answer here is Lord Grantham!

  17. Chickie Baby says:

Any and all of them—can’t help but love a man in uniform (even if it is for a movie).

I would especially like to be in a Dujardin & Clooney sandwich, though. Would let them rescue me anytime!

  18. Ellie66 says:

George looks awesome with the “porn stache” but John Goodman looks great he lost a lot of weight so I’d say John Goodman! With Bill Murray a close second. Lol!

  19. Rocio says:

Best pic? John Goodman of course!
I love Jean Dujardin, and he was at the military service, so he knows how to carry all that stuff! He looks hot!

  20. Esmerelda says:

    George Clooney, art historian?
    John Goodman, Professor Emeritus?

…how are we supposed to believe this? Who chose the cast?
Let’s hope there is a lot lot lot of Bill Murray, like, Murray speaks and the others just move crates around…

  21. Reece says:

They’ve got me hooked from the cast and it’s about art. I’m so there!

  22. lisa says:

i would run over clooney in a truck to get to desjardins

  23. Andi says:

    Jean Dujardin, of course!!

  24. Aqua says:

Why chose if you don’t have too!I love them all for very different reasons.Going out to dinner with all of these fine gentlemen would be a dream come true.

  25. Me Three says:

They’ve actually filmed most of the film in Germany. They have spent months there. Just moved to England. They’re supposed to film all over Europe.

Can’t wait til George gets rid of the look he’s adopted for this movie. So hate that mustache and hair. If he dumped those, I’d take him over Dujardin. The way they look now, I’d hit the french guy!

  26. TheOriginalWaffle says:

    Dujardin, definitely.

  27. Jade says:

Erhmahgerd I don’t know which one to choose…why doesn’t Spielberg just throw in RDJ for the heck of it lol.

  28. Amy says:

Not to make light of WWII (today was actually the anniversary of D-Day so fitting day for this post) but I thought for about 2 seconds that George Clooney was wearing an upside down pot on his head before I read the title!

Also anytime I can hear Lord Grantham talk, I am so there!
