Hugh Jackman covers Men’s Fitness: ‘it’s easier for me to be polite than an a-hole’

Hugh Jackman covers Men’s Fitness in a t-shirt, which is somewhat disappointing to me. However I know that Hugh Jackman shirtless photos occasionally come out, and that we’ll have lots of opportunities to admire his manly chest when Wolverine comes out at the end of next month. Maybe, if we’re lucky, he’ll do some frolicking beach candids as part of the lead-up. Here’s hoping! Also, Hugh fills out a t-shirt much better than meathead Joe Manganiello, who can’t act his way out of a paper bag. I was just reminded of that in the season premiere of True Blood. Someone needs to put those stupid methhead wolves out of their misery.

Getting back to Hugh, he’s gorgeous, he’s thoughtful, he’s polite, and he’s an all-around decent guy. He knows this too, and he explains it in a very matter-of-fact way, saying that it’s easier to be nice to someone than to tell them off. I’m going to try and keep this in mind in my day-to-day life, not that I have an anger issue but I will tell someone off for being rude. (Cutting in line is a pet issue of mine.)

On Dwayne Johnson‘s fitness advice: “He told me that if in a six-month period you want to put on 25 pounds of lean muscle and not fat, eat natural and eat 6,000 calories a day. There were times when I would literally eat with the mind set of working out. ‘One more mouthful, one more, come on, come on, you’ve got to finish this meal!’”

On being referred to as the Nicest Guy in Hollywood: “As an actor, I’ve always believed that any label is your enemy. Look, I was brought up in a way where you treat people with respect. So it’s certainly easier for me to be polite and respectful to people than to be an asshole. Like, if I’m walking down the street with my family and the 29th person says, ‘Hey man, can I get a photo?’ for me to say, ‘No photos, get f–ked’— for the next hour I’ll be thinking I shouldn’t have said that. Whereas, if I say either, ‘Yeah, no problem,’ or, ‘Listen, I’m with my family now, but it’s nice to meet you,’ then I move on, in a way it’s easier. It’s a mixture of that and also not being a wanker.”

On trying to be himself: “I try to be myself as much as I can when I’m not acting, for better or worse, but I’ve had publicists who’ve told me it’s a bad idea: ‘You move your hands too much, you did this too many times, you should do this, you shouldn’t talk about that.’”

I love him so much! I want to have Hugh’s babies and make whichever constant recipes he needs for his latest fad diets. I know he’s happily married and it’s not to be, but that just ads to the attraction for me. He is good, committed husband and father, and while Hugh is widely admired he just doesn’t get enough love. You know why that is? Because he’s not controversial. As he said, he’s just who he is and he doesn’t try to be anyone else. He’s a genuine person and that comes through in everything he does. Also, he better win an Oscar in the next handful of years.

A certified gentleman! Love me some Hugh!!!

  2. GoldenState says:

Totally swooning. He is such a stand-up guy. Honestly, his wife bagged a babe.

  3. mia girl says:

Oh Hugh, why are you so awesome?

PS if we run into each other on the street it would be perfectly acceptable for you to tell me to “get f*^ked”… as long as its an offer. 😉

  4. Jess says:

He’s lovely, but those veiny arms freak me out!

    • V4Real says:

Love me some Hugh but those veins looks like a crackhead’s dream.

Love the little girl hand in that pic, she looks like she’s saying can I touch it; his hands people. 🙂

I have never heard anything but praise for Hugh Jackman’s behavior on and off the set. Lainey said he is one of the most accommodating, humble and charming people she has ever interviewed. I root for him. Those kinds are rare. Tom Hanks, Ron Howard are a couple more that come to mind.

It was obvious long before the gossip blogger said it. She’s not going to take shots at him. He’s too powerful and too well-liked, and rightly so. He is a gentleman. She should take notes.

Wolverine doesn’t do it for me, but he’s a great musical theater talent. Saw him on Broadway years ago playing Peter Allen and he was amazing.

  6. LadyMTL says:

Not a big fan of the veiny arms but he seems like such a great guy! More people in Hollywood (men and women) could take a lesson from him.

  7. Anna says:

He really is so wonderful. And talented. And hot!!!

  8. Jalopy says:

I have nothing against Hugh other than for the monthly beach shots that are obv staged. And its not just when his in Aussie either. Leann has nothing on this trick.

    • mercyme says:

He has stated his philosophy of dealing with the paparazzi is to not fight it and give them shots so they’ll leave. But yeah, I do believe he engages in the same PR photos that many other entertainers do. The difference is there is a real demand for pics of him, while the Leeann’s and other reality show types are desperately trying to create a demand. There’s always some stupid controversy of their own making attached to their pics. I wish the blogs would just ignore the reality show types altogether.

    • Emily says:

Aussie is an adjective to refer to a person or item (i.e. an Aussie song, meal, girl, thing). The country though is just Australia… or Aus if you must! Please not “Oz” though… this is a fictional place that Dorothy visited.

      🙂

    • NerdMomma says:

I, on the other hand, deeply appreciate the monthly beach shots. I would never hold a shirtless pic against him! He’s not a famewhore, he has an actual career.

  9. Lucinda says:

Love him always. He is my ultimate crush. Sigh…..

  10. Pao La says:

I’d rather die than asking to some celebs to be in a picture with me. I love Hugh Jackman he seems so genuine and down to earth.

  11. serena says:

Oh man, he HAS to win an Oscar, and soon. He’s so talented, he’s an amazing man and actor. But you’re right CB, he doesn’t get enough love.. sigh

  12. Syko says:

    I adore him. That’s all I have.

  13. j.eyre says:

There is nothing disappointing about the photo on that magazine cover.

I hope never changes. And I hope Deb doesn’t either. They are both quite lucky to have each other.

  14. the original bellaluna says:

J’adore! He’s one of my “forever dongs,” for all those reasons and more.

  15. LexieW says:

True story: my best friend was on vacation in Sydney with her family, and they were having breakfast at a restaurant. Hugh’s family was at the next table, and his then-toddler daughter was flirting with my friend. Hugh and Deb noticed and engaged my friend’s family in general conversation for an hour – as they were getting up to leave, he shook everyone’s hand and said “I’m Hugh.”

    As if they didn’t know!

  16. Bodhi says:

It IS easier to be nice than a jerk. I’m a really polite person & it isn’t because I like people all that much, I’m just lazy!

  17. MademoiselleRose says:

The guy deserves an Oscar. He can do it all. Name anyone else that has his range of talent these days to be a great actor, singer and dancer and popular on both the stage and screen. He’s funny, speaks well, is easy on the eye and is genuinely nice. He has a happy family life, obviously loves his wife, and most people like him because he is just so happy to be around and kind to everyone. And he’s humble about it all and appreciative of his fame and lifestyle. He deserves all the good that comes his way. And he’s an Aussie – he’s pretty well perfect!

  18. alison8761 says:

He is super nice and beloved but it kind of was frustrating for me that no one commented on his singing in Les Mis. I thought it was very distracting and weak. It seemed like he was singing from his head, not his chest, and it came off very nasally and tinny. But very few people said anything about it, so I was so surprised when I was watching it.

i felt like people gave him a free pass because they like him so damn much. but he was just such a weak singer, esp compared to his broadway counterparts.

  19. May May says:

He’s my favorite actor for all of the stated reasons, and the fact that he’s super-attractive is just an added bonus. I second the Oscar motion. He deserves it! Also, I’ve been waiting for months for the Wolverine to come out. I’m so excited!

  20. Joanna says:

what i wouldn’t give for a threesome with him and the Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson! if Hugh was single, of course! but da*n, a girl can dream about it………….sigh
