Armie Hammer & his wife pose for a Town & Country photoshoot: cheesy or hot?

Armie Hammer is trying to be the New Chris Hemsworth? Or something. I feel like this is a legitimate option for young actors these days – bring your wife along for photo-ops and photoshoots and play the “I’m a happily married man, I’m a devoted family man” card. Maybe it’s for real. Maybe Chris Hemsworth is a really lovely guy who adores his wife and daughter. Maybe Armie Hammer is crazy in love with his wife and he wants to hold her hand constantly. All of that could be completely true… AND it could also be true that this is a way to carve out a niche in Hollywood. Some young actors play the bad-boy, the seducer. Some actors play the Happily Married Man.

Anyway, Armie and his wife Elizabeth Chambers cover the new issue of Town & Country. He’s promoting The Lone Ranger. What is she promoting again? Yeah. That’s the question. Still, it’s a lovely photo shoot if you enjoy happily married couples wearing coordinated outfits in an idyllic meadow. I will say this though – the black-and-white photo of Armie on the fence is making me feel funny in my bathing suit area. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Elizabeth Chambers on what husband Armie Hammer said to her to convince her to get married:
“When we finally got together, Armie really wanted to get married. He sat me down and said, ‘Look, we don’t have to do this. We could just go our own ways, and then one day you’ll be 40 and divorced and we’ll run into each other, and we’ll laugh and go out to dinner and have this same connection, and we’ll wonder why we wasted all of that time. Or we could just do it now and enjoy the ride.'”

Hammer on speaking about his craft:
“I don’t like to talk about the craft of acting. It’s like asking a guy who screws lug nuts for a living to talk about his technique.”

Lone Ranger producer Jerry Bruckheimer on Hammer’s commitment to the film:
“We endured blizzards, windstorms, 120-degree days in Utah, and more sand and wind than you can imagine. Physically it was quite an ordeal for the actors, but Armie never let on. He’s very committed and he’s fearless, an avid sportsman, very athletic. Out in the desert, he just rolled with the punches. He camped out in Monument Valley and slept outside with the crew.”

Hammer on the difference between himself and The Winklevoss twins, the characters he played in The Social Network:
“The Winklevoss brothers’ great achievement, a big source of pride, comes from the fact that they went to Harvard. And I’m a guy who dropped out of high school. My parents thought I was an idiot. They thought it was ridiculous to drop out in 11th grade to be an actor. So, no offense to the Winklevoss brothers, but really we couldn’t be more different.”

[From Town & Country]

“No offense to the Winklevoss brothers, but really we couldn’t be more different.” Is that statement really “offensive”? I mean, I’m used to saying “no offense” in front of statements that I know will come across as really harsh. Like, “No offense, but I hate your face.” Saying something like, “No offense, but we don’t have much in common because I didn’t go to Harvard” just sounds weird. As for the sugary story of how Armie asked Elizabeth to be his life partner or whatever – Armie already told that story in another interview! That must be their go-to story that tell and re-tell all the time. They are SO That Couple.

Is there an age difference here? She looks so much older… I guess I assumed he’s younger than I am (34) so I’m always surprised when his wife looks so Teri Hatcherish…

    • Andrea says:

I think she is a few years older than him.

That’s refreshing to me. We need to continue to break down this stigma that says that it’s “normal” for men to marry younger women but “weird” for women to marry younger men.

      • GiGi says:

Oh, I don’t have a problem with age differences at all – one way or the other. For some reason I just thought they were the same age (and nearly are, really).

My surprise is that she just looks so old. Someone downthread said she looks like Sela Ward – who is beautiful – but Elizabeth looks like Sela Ward looks now and I believe she’s over 50!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Aw you’re being a bit harsh no?

I think she’s purty, even if she does look a bit older..

        And I’m 34 too! *high fives* 🙂

      • GiGi says:

TOK – I don’t mean to be harsh – I actually think she’s had injections, which always seem aging to me. There are pics of her from just a couple of years ago where she looks very fresh and lovely!

    • shannon says:

i’m going to have to agree re: the age difference…they are both pretty people but she does look much, much older here.

also – he’s trying to make himself sound like some regular joe who rose from the ashes of mediocrity to big time movie star. I was under the impression that he’s big oil royalty.

      • GiGi says:

A little googling tells me he’s 26 & she’s 30. And now I’m thinking she’s on the ‘Tox – which is instantly aging IMO. I wish people would just stop with that crap.

      • MrsB says:

Wow! That is not much of an age difference, but she looks much older than 30 in this photo shoot!

      • holly hobby says:

Yes he came from a wealthy family. His grandfather and namesake was Armand Hammer. Big oil.

      • Kosmos says:

Yes, he’s 26 (still so young) and she’s 30. He’s 6’5″ tall, wow, and she’s also tall at 5’10”, so that works…I agree, she does have a more ‘mature’ look for her actual years, but some of that could be due to her preference for darkly rimmed eyes and dark brows, which can be more aging. In 10 years, she’ll look even older, but then, she can afford the very best in anti-aging treatments…In every pic I see of them online, he appears to be genuinely smitten with her, sorry girls!

      • mwow says:

She has one of those “old” faces – and I don’t mean like wrinkly or anything, she just has a mature face. Like she could be anywhere from 35-45. It must suck to look older than your husband though. It’s just not acceptable in the mainstream yet.

    • Stef Leppard says:

      I think she’s 31 and he’s 26.

    • Jenna says:

I was thinking that myself! Nothing wrong with an age difference, but she looks SO much more older than her ’30’. I wonder if she’s had anything done to her face?

    • amilu says:

THANK YOU. I mentioned this in the last Armie Hammer thread, and someone jumped down my throat when I said that I thought she looked much older than 30.

      (I’m 34, too!)

  2. Anna says:

I am seriously swooning at these pictures. Especially the cover shot – that’s a Hemsworthian blue-eyed gaze right there. He’s not definitely in my Fantasy Fifteen. But, um, Town&Country? I am not quite sure what his team is going for there, in terms of branding. Especially when promoting a mega-budget Disney action-adventure caper.

    • marie says:

they are nice photos, but I don’t understand the magazine selection either. Maybe it’s more for her? Isn’t she an actress?

his wife is giving me a Linda Grey/Sela Ward vibe especially on the cover.

      • Anna says:

Oh yes, I am definitely seeing SW!

      • Marty says:

You know what these remind me of? Adrien Brody and that fake ass castle. Don’t do it Armie, look what happened to poor Adrien.

I’ll give CH this much, at least he hasn’t let his wife sucker him into a cheesy photoshoot like this one. Not to say that she hasn’t done some herself like her solo wedding photos or “announcing” her pregnency. If there is one thing that chick loves, it’s a camera.

      • marie says:

ha ha, so true. but at least CH is better looking.. the more I look at these photos the older his wife seems to get.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I don’t even like this dude but he looks sexy in these shots.

        Really attractive couple…

  3. lisa2 says:

I don’t understand the PR of the spread. And the title is proclaiming him as the Next John Wayne.

I think it is interesting how they are really playing up is marriage. And then when I look at say Henry Cavill it is the opposite. You would think he is not even in a relationship. His girlfriend has been completely MIA on every RC.

His wife looks older than he does. Reminds me of Hugh and his wife. But they seem to be in love so all is good. I don’t find him sexy. He seems like a good average guy.

    • Bubbles says:

He’s slowly starting to be like Tom Hiddleston to me. I find him very attractive in movies, but his interviews just cool me of.

    • cocomama419 says:

Arm & Hammer is pushing Lone Ranger super hard. But not really going about it the right way. One week Playboy, the next Town & Country.

But just not buying it.Especially this shoot. It looks like an engagement photoshoot.I like that he is so into marriage and his wife, but does every interview have to have a chunk of it devoted to his wife and their life together.

Its seem like hes not an interesting enough person, so he has to bring his wife in. Chris Hemsworth walks the red carpet with his wife but she doesn’t pop in at EVERY time in his professional career.

All I’m getting is that he stepped away from his upper crust unbringing to become an actor (almost mention in every interview much like Tom Hiddleston) and he loves his wife. Not very interesting to say the least. And like everyone has stated his wife looks to be in her 40s for real. Her laugh lines are too prominent for a woman in her 30s.

  4. Lucretia says:

I like the happily married part, but I hope they don’t get dressed up to go walking quite as often as the Hemsworths do. And yes, she does look like Teri Hatcher, with a little Sela Ward thrown in.

  5. Tony says:

Prettyboy. No chance with legit hotties.

  6. Ellen says:

I remember the days of Kevin Costner gushing about meeting his wife when she was playing Snow White at Disneyland in every interview around the time of Bull Durham and dances with wolves…sounds almost like deja vu…

  7. Jade says:

    Vanilla vanilla beige beige

  8. lucy2 says:

He looks good in the b&w photo.

The ‘no offense’ would make more sense if it were coming from the Winklevoss’ to him, given that their formal education was more advanced than his. This makes him sound like one of those people who don’t really understand what they’re saying.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

No offense, but he sounds like an idiot who thinks of himself he is this deep thinker.

He should have stayed in HS, 2 more years wouldn´t have hurt his career.

      • Jill says:

I’ll probably get yelled at, but under (pretty much) no circumstances would I ever allow my child to quit high school, specially for an acting career. Even if they’re ultimately successful (Emma Stone, Michael J Fox, etc…) I think completing high school is an absolute must, unless for some reason it has become an impossibility to do so, and not just an “I want to quit” situation. I realize they can do whatever they want, but quitting high school would always be something I would’ve regretted.

I think his wife looks like Sela Ward.

      • Spooks says:

I’m not sure I would allow my kid to not go to college. Quitting HS would definitely not be an option.

      • stellalovejoydiver says:

I guess it is a little different when the kid starts acting successfully as a child, like KStew, Anron Yelchin(who graduated from HS), or Angus T Jones and will be homeschooled and prob get his diploma, but when you just quit the school out of nowhere to become an actor shortly before finishing, that´s just sounds stupid. When you start acting you usually only get with small roles, you could prob be acting while going school, acting during summer break etc.
When it comes to being an actor you never really know when you break through, maybe you never will, it´s such an unpredictable profession I think it´s good to have a Plan B.
Both Armie Hammer and Emma Stone could have finished HS and they would have had the same career as they do now.

      • lucy2 says:

I agree, dropping out to start an acting career is a foolish move. If you have the talent/looks/ambition to make it, you’ll still have those at age 18 vs. 16 or 17.

  9. Pastyousayyouneverknew says:

Good looking guy, they seem like a sweet couple.

  10. MojoRising says:

    30? *side eye*

  11. hmmmmmm.... says:

The black and white photo needs BOOTS, for heaven’s sake. The shoes are ruining it for me. who wears loafers in a corral?

    • Chickie Baby says:

A really bad stylist hired for the photo shoot! That’s who wears loafers in a corral. (And I totally agree with your comment about boots being needed. The couple live in Texas, for Heaven’s sake—the man should KNOW what is proper attire for being ‘out on the range’!)

  12. epiphany says:

Armie’s been doing a lot of interviews lately, in which he discusses his life before getting married, his relationship now with his wife, etc… the photos are nice, but down the road, when these people are hounded by paps, and entertainment/gossip reporters, they’ll be demanding their “privacy.” Celebs can’t have it both ways. Either accept that when you open up your personal relationships to public scrutiny you’re going to get hounded, or keep your private life…private.

  13. Talie says:

He plays up the heir card when it’s convenient — this is like his third feature for Town & Country.

  14. Garvels says:

Meh! I don’t know what it is but he is handsome but he lacks charisma and the “it” factor. You would think with his looks he would have it,but he doesn’t. Maybe it is because his wife is always chained to his leg. The vibe I get from this couple is that his wife is desperate for fame and stardom.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

He is really handsome, btu just so forgettable. I just looked at his pics and already forgot what he looked like.
Also I have no desire to see this movie.

  15. serena says:

    He’s hot.

  16. Chrissy says:

MY GOSH THE BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO!

I’m totally into it because he’s giving me Hugh Dancy in a hot lean sexy body vibes.

  17. Mia 4S says:

Cheese…so much cheese! Not necessarily a bad strategy. Let’s face it this guy makes actors like Henry Cavill, Chris Pine, or even Hemsworth seem positively edgy and risqué! 😉

  18. Elle says:

    So cheesy!!

  19. eileen says:

    I don’t know who this guy is-but he’s hottttttttt.

  20. Tig says:

I think he’s very good lucking! I read where he and Cavil will be starring in Man from UNCLE- that will be an eye-candy fest!!!

  21. Simply Red says:

They are a lovely couple indeed…

    Age ain’t nothing but number…

If she is as young well geesh she looks old

    • Joy says:

She’s 4 years older than him. I’m 10 years older than my husband and the disparity isn’t as noticeable. Lucky for me he has lots of premature gray! Unless she’s outright lying about her age. My guess would 42-ish.

  22. RobN says:

Some people really are just nice and faking edgy always just looks ridiculous. They may just be a regular old nice couple, and good for them. He’s a little too perfect looking for me, but there’s a niche out there for his type.

  23. YuYa says:

He’s not hot and she is not 30.

  24. Mia says:

Really dislike celeb couples who do joint interviews and photo shoots together proclaiming what an amazing relationship they have. If they are talking about a legit cause or career related subject then ok, but gushing about how madly in love they are? Attention seeking much? Pass the puke bucket!

  25. Hubbahun says:

They are such a beautiful couple! She reminds me of a young Sela Ward, so gorgeous and Armie does give me righteous lady boner. Nom nom nom!

  26. Alexis says:

HAHA! I’ll be 30 in three weeks, and there’s NO way that chick is my age. She is pretty, though. Just looks older.

  27. Tiffany says:

This needs to be a massive, massive hit for him. They cannot bank on Depp for this one.

  28. Vanessa says:

Is that pink number what J-Lo wore on her Star walk of fame day?

  29. mimi says:

He is a very good looking man, and if he is much younger than her – I like him even more!
    That’s super cool.

Also, I like (a lot) what he said to her to get her to be with him/marry him.

  30. I love him. He’s a really good actor, super hot and I think it’s sweet how much he seems to love his wife.

Going to see The Lone Ranger because of him and ONLY him. Depp has been annoying me so much lately…

  31. Valerie says:

Can one really lie about their age though? I mean, in this day and age of information someone is bound to be like “She’s lying! I went to school with her and have the school photos to prove it!”.
If I were a celeb, I would never dare to lie about my age…how embarrassing if the truth comes out.

    • Yvonne says:

Well, she modeled when she was younger. So it’s possible that she shaved a few years off when she began modeling in order to seem more marketable. Obviously, she couldn’t just add those years back when she quit modeling without being called out on it, so the fake age stuck. I think it’s more likely that she simply has a more “mature” face and is trying to use Botox to combat it, which is having the unintended effect of making her look older.

  32. mandygirl says:

I think his wife looks a lot like Sela Ward. She’s very pretty & I think they make a cute couple!

  33. SFRowGuy says:

He’s handsome (too young for me), she’s beautiful. Cute couple. No, not too cheesy. (What’s wrong with a little cheese?)

  34. You really cause it to seem to be very easy with all your display however discover this trouble to get really an issue that I do think I’d certainly not recognize. It seems as well complex and intensely substantial for me personally. My business is looking ahead on your up coming distribute, I’m going to try to find the hang on of the usb ports!
