Gwyneth Paltrow in the sex addict rom-com ‘Thanks for Sharing’: weird or cute?

I didn’t realize that the Gwyneth Paltrow-Mark Ruffalo movie Thanks For Sharing was about sex addiction. I just saw that little blurb before I watched the trailer – “Gwyneth is in a movie about sex addiction!” – and I was incredibly worried that Gwyneth would be playing a sex addict. Thank God, that’s not the case. Mark Ruffalo is playing a sex addict, as is Pink, Josh Gad and Tim Robbins. Goop plays Mark’s new girlfriend who is dealing with the fact that her new, cute boyfriend is an addict. This is like “what if ‘Shame’ was a romantic comedy?”

Honestly, it looks like a sort of interesting movie. I kind of feel for Mark Ruffalo because this could have been a lighter role for him but he’s capable of bringing pathos to even a rom-com about sex addicts. Gwyneth in lingerie is… um… I mean, her body looks good. But her nasal voice destroys any sexiness she might have. I imagine that Goop and Ruffalo are friends (they did another movie together more than a decade ago), and she’ll probably claim that she only signed on to the movie because Mark “begged” her or something. Whatever, Goop.

The real surprise is that Pink (Alecia Moore) seems to be doing solid work as an actress. I like that they paired her with Josh Gad, who is an up-and-coming comedic talent. He writes his own stuff too, but I think he’s just quietly gaining a foothold in Hollywood by taking supporting parts and guest roles and he’s usually pretty funny. His guest spot on New Girl last year was amazing! As for Tim Robbins and Joely Richardson… I could care less about that side of the story. Blah.

So, will you see this movie? Or will you just yell “GET OFF MY BOYFRIEND” at Gwyneth? Because there she is, bold as can be, making out with our boyfriend Mark Ruffalo.

The movie from 10 years ago is View from the Top which is seriously one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies. They are both adorable in that movie. The plot is a little thin, the acting isn’t great, but I always feel better after watching it!

Gwyneth would be the only draw back of seeing this movie. I mean, I’ll still see it because come on, Mark Ruffalo but I will be flipping Gwynnie the bird in my head. I’m not a fan of her acting, at all.

    • Alexandria says:

Gwyneth is the draw back to any movie she acts in….

I love Mark Ruffalo. But I will not see this movie because I simply cannot handle watching Paltrow.
I don’t support pretentious twits with my hard earned movie money.

I love Mark Ruffalo. And Pink.
And I love Goopy. She annoying and elitist but I can’t help but like her. I also love Anne Hathaway so maybe it’s me.
But, I don’t think she has a great body. She has no waist.

I never liked Mark Ruffalo until I saw In the Cut. Now I get it.

They had such hard time getting distribution for this. I wonder why with so many recognisable people. I love Gwyneth’s promotion seasons and I hope she gives more things to rage about

    • mslewis says:

It had a tough time getting distribution because none of these people, no matter how much they are loved or hated on this site, can actually open a movie. Also, it’s about sex addiction. I don’t imagine many people will rush out to see it. Personally, I think the trailer looks good so I will put it on my Netflix queue but I won’t pay $12 at a movie theatre to see it. (I like Mark and Gwynnie.)

This is kind of a weird project, non? But it’s the first time I even remotely liked Ruffalo, and I am kind excited to see Pink as an Actress.

I’m not a rom-com fan, but I am surprised by this movie! I had no idea Pink was in it or that Mark Ruffalo was the lead. So, I’m definitely going to see it now. I went from zero interest to must see just watching Pink and Josh Gad together.

I saw the trailer on Access Hollywood (?) and recoiled when I saw Paltrow in black bra/panties/garters. Been seeing too many Pitt exes strutting around in lingerie lately…

At any rate, I did perk up when I saw Pink in the trailer. For that reason, I may check it out. Love Pink.

  7. Summer says:

Not mentioning Tim Robins? He’s the freaking director!

  8. Roxy says:

Ugh, I did NOT need to see that woman in bra and panties!! She needs to do some squats and get an ass!! 🙁 I think her acting is as boring as she is in real life. Gwyneth is SO blah and boring!! 🙁

  9. JJ says:

A horny Hulk getting it on with Pepper!

  10. e.non says:

i suspect the main reason she accepted the role was to strut around in lingerie. she’s got a 20yo stripper’s ass, doncha know…. and opportunities to show it off are limited…

  11. pao la says:

Gwyneth is not sexy. she might have a banging bosy but she isn’t sexy at all.

  12. balehead2012 says:

Wait, wasn’t she the one who criticized another actress for taking roles in romantic comedies? (I may be confusing her with another actress though, I don’t read about her except here on CB).

    • SLM says:

I’m not entirely sure why this movie is being described as a romantic comedy. It comes from some of the same people who made The Kids are All Right, a good drama with some lighter moments.

The trailer doesn’t look like a bunch of laughs either but some people trying to deal with a serious addiction, one that ruins relationships. I think moviegoers looking for comedy are going to be disappointed.

Is it my bias showing or does it really look like Pink does a better job in this trailer than Gwyneth? I was never a fan of her but she seems really believable and natural here while Gwyneth sounds like she tries too hard to sound cool. Something is off with her voice and the intonation. She was supposed to sound seductive, I guess, but at some point I was waiting for her to shout “dude” and punch Ruffalo in the shoulder.

  14. NeoCleo says:

I like Pink. I hope she makes the leap to actor successfully.

  15. butterick says:

W/R/T Gwyneths body…. That’s it? I mean, she looks good. But all that borderline-anorexia and obsessive workouts for that? If you are going to be that preachy about how great your body is, then you’d better have an ass like two basketballs attached to your thighs.

  16. Jayna says:

Actually, I find Mark boring in rom-coms. He first came onto my radar when he was in that movie with Meg Ryan, In The Cut. My sister told me not to watch it, bad. I rented it to see how bad it was and then I watched it again. LOL She was shocked I watched it twice because she never finished it the first time, but it was because I was so obssessed with Mark Ruffalo. He played a rough detective having an erotic affair with Meg’s character. He even did a full nude scene. He was so mysteriously sexy in a rough-around-the-edges way (and his mustache really worked on him LOL) that I was very disappointed the next time I saw him in a rom-com. I couldn’t believe it was the same guy.

  17. Happy21 says:

I love Mark Ruffalo and yes will probably be yelling at her to get off my boyfriend.

I cannot for one second stand her in ANYTHING but she is the one and only draw back in what looks like it could be a solid movie. Yes, I may have to check it out! Pink!!! In a movie!! YAY!!

  18. UsedToBeLulu says:

Oh dear. She looks like an emu in that running picture.

  19. dahlianoir says:

I eat more bread and pasta than she ever will and I look better in lingerie 😀

Watching that scene in the trailer brightened my day.

Getting ready for red carpet: Hair parted down the middle. Check. One side pulled behind ear, with a little section in front of ear. Check. Hair flat-ironed to within seconds of catching on fire. Check. Cut hair stylist a $500 check for blowout and styling hair to give that enviable not-done look. Check.

  21. Meaghan says:

IS NOBODY going to comment on her spilling sh*t on his lip, calling it goop and it looking like cum?

  22. Toto says:

Gwyneth looks FAT and untoned in that ridiculous scene where she’s semi-pole dancing. OMG – I felt like I was watching my mother strip!
