Matthew Morrison announces his engagement to his ‘girlfriend of 2 years’

Matthew Morrison is engaged! To a woman! Sorry, I just thought that was worth noting. In the wake of SCOTUS’s DOMA decision, there have been lots of engagement announcements from gay celebrities. So Matthew decided this was the best week to announce his heterosexual engagement. I know, I know. We don’t know for sure about his sexuality, and for what it’s worth, CB does believe he’s straight (she thinks he’s kind of vapid and a straight musical theater guy swimming in biscuits). I’ve heard those rumors/stories about Matthew in his pre-Glee days and his pre-fame dating patterns, so I don’t know what to tell you. He’s engaged to a woman. Congrats?

Matthew Morrison better put on his dancing shoes! The Glee star officially popped the question to his girlfriend of two years, model Renee Puente, on Thursday, June 27, a source confirms to Us Weekly.

Morrison’s friends Elton John and David Furnish announced the couple’s happy engagement news during John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball to benefit his AIDS Foundation in London later in the evening, an onlooker tells Us.

“Matt’s friends absolutely adore Renee!” another source previously told Us. “They have never seen Matt happier than when he is with her. She is super supportive of his career and also works hard on her own. She is such a great girl and they are awesome together.”

Morrison, 34, has been dating 26-year-old Puente since late 2011, and the couple is often spotted out and about in Los Angeles.

“I’m very happy. Renee’s not in the industry — I need that normality,” the actor previously told Closer magazine of their relationship. “We like to stay home and cook, we’re not that Hollywood.”

The pair have no problems being silly and poking fun at fame, however. In October 2012, the couple stepped out for Halloween dressed as vintage Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, paying tribute to the pop stars’ very public romance.

Welcome to Hollywood, Renee. Good luck, girl. I’m including some photos of the couple over the past year – they really make an effort to coordinate, even when it comes to eyewear. I feel like one of them cares about coordinating. I wonder which one? Also, this is just a sidenote: they’ve been dating for two years and they’ve been photographed together so many times, but I swear this is the first time I’ve ever registered her as a person. I swear I look through these photos every day! I can’t say that I remember ever hearing about her or seeing her before today.

Maybe he’s a Gay Straight Man? He’s certainly metrosexual and in the first pic the eyewear makes them look like Power Lesbians!

But I have a soft spot for Mr Shue and love it when he does his white boy rapping. I wish him joy.

AHH, loved you SATC reference! I re-watched them all recently, as I like to do every two years or so, and they never disappoint.

Gotta disagree on his rapping though. I find it so painful and I wish Glee had given him more singing opportunities at the beginning than rap songs, because now I can’t take anything he does seriously, even though I know he’s incredibly talented at classical singing and dancing. Maybe I should’ve watched him on stage first?

    That 3rd photo says it
    she’s such a lovely class A beard…

I do get a gay vibe from him but I kind of think it’s just all those years in musical theatre have rubbed off on him superficially? I’ve read that ex-g.f.’s of his said he was a cheating hound, always presumed it was w/women but who knows. It seems weird a guy from such a gay friendly show would have a beard in this day and age but then I never understand why anyone does.

One of my friends grew up with him (even dated him briefly in high school) and swears he is as straight as they come!

    • Amber says:

he briefly dated Kristen Bell back in their college days. and she has mention in a interview about a guy who cheated on her then but now they are still friends. i believe she is referring to Matthew.

Cute couple, they almost look like siblings. In the last shot, even their footsteps are in sync!

But, yeah, not sure I’m buyin’ it.

  5. Miss Kiki says:

Matthew Morrison is straight? LOLZ, alright then.

  6. Anneliese says:

It looks like he is wearing a women’s jacket in the third pic.

  7. embertine says:

Repeat after me, people: “Bisexuality: not just for attention-seeking straight girls!”

  8. Holly says:

Okay, in the 2nd picture with the black lace dress, she looks like Kim K stuffed into the body of Jessica Biel like one of those turducken things!

Maybe the timing is another case of “when my gay friends have the same rights, then we’ll go ahead…”? That, of course, doesn’t explain where this *serious* couple has been for 2 years.

  9. Leah says:

I feel the same way about him as i do about ryan seacrest….

  10. Cary says:

FWIW, Tom and Lorenzo say he’s straight.

I GET the musical theatre gay stereotypes, but I don’t like ’em. At all. After the staggering successes of Neil Patrick Harris–openly gay for the past few years of his comeback– would the guy who got famous from Glee (which is basically a seasons-long tolerance PSA) really need a beard in the industry if he were gay? Maybe if he was trying to break into film and be a Clooney-esque heartthrob… which I can’t imagine from Mr. Schu. I’m puzzled…

  12. j.eyre says:

Is being a model really “not in the industry?” It’s Industry-Adjacent at the very least.

  13. Ryan says:

Total Barney Stinson vibe in that last picture.

  14. Enny says:

OK, if you’re trying to prove to the world that you’re straight by announcing your engagement to a beardy-looking model, you should maybe consider if Mr. & Mr. Elton John are the best people to boost your supposedly hetero image.

  15. Claire says:

I just can’t stand him. Heard an interview with him and he was such a toss I couldn’t bear to watch Glee ever again
