Claire Danes covers Vogue, does sexy/intense photo shoot with Damian Lewis

Claire Danes covers the August issue of Vogue, and the Annie Leibovitz photoshoot also includes some (incredibly sexy) photos of Damian Lewis. I love Homeland-themed photoshoots!! Especially when Damian Lewis is all gingery and sullen. The whole shot is rather striking and interesting, and as for fashion… major coat p0rn. I love the brown suede coat Claire is wearing in the car with Damian. The photo of Damian in uniform with Claire draped on him? Does that remind anyone else of Romeo & Juliet? Star-crossed lovers and all. Truth. You can see Vogue’s slideshow here, and you can read the whole interview with Claire here. Some highlights:

Spending the day at the real Langley: “When I spent the day at Langley, they were very forthright and said”—she switches to a deep man’s voice—“ ‘You know, we’re always recruiting, and it’s not all that often that we’re rendered in pop culture. We’d like to have some influence on that.’ They were just so direct. It was admirable, actually, kind of ironically transparent.”

At the Golden Globes, she was summoned to a room to talk to Bill Clinton. “Magnetic,” she says. “A mammoth brain.” It was a whirlwind event. Her newborn son, Cyrus, was upstairs at the Beverly Hilton with her parents, and she was able to go in and out of the action all night. “I went on the red carpet, went upstairs, fed Cyrus. Went into the ceremony, got the award, went back to feed Cyrus, went out again. . . . Then it was ‘Now you meet the president.’ ” As a nursing mom, she says, “I had these new boobs; I’m wearing a big Jessica Rabbit dress, and I’d been living in sweat pants for so long. . . . It was strange. It was dreamy, surrounded by my parents and my husband. It was one of the best nights of my life because of this perfect mash-up.”

Deciding to do Homeland: She was considering two parts in the same weekend, having just auditioned for the role of secretary to Leonardo DiCaprio’s J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s 2011 biopic. “I was like, ‘Do I want to play the secretary to the boss man or do I want to be the boss man?’ ” She curls up her nose. “I want to be the boss man.” Finally, there was that other voice telling Danes to take the role. “I was scared of it, and I thought, OK, right, that means I have to do it.”

The contemporaries she admires: “I’m so impressed by Jennifer Lawrence and Carey Mulligan,” she says. “They have this exquisite taste. They are very gifted in their ability to make great choices. I didn’t have that rudder.” It took a while to sift through the movie-star thing and realize she could just do what had drawn her to the industry in the first place. Acting. “There’s the movie star that plays herself and the movie star like Meryl that has this wonderful, glamorous persona intact and is undone every time she takes on a new character. I think I’m astounded and titillated by that.”

[From Vogue]

The whole piece is lengthy and I only got about halfway through before I decided to save it for another day. Claire talks a lot about her education, going to Yale, slowly developing a close network of girlfriends, and she also talks a lot about being an out-of-work actress for many years, mostly because she didn’t want to just sign on to roles where she was playing “the girl”. It’s interesting. Also interesting? From what I’ve read thus far, there are no quotes from Damian. Isn’t that weird?

I find the shoot very underwhelming. Annie Leibovitz is basically phoning it in nowadays. And why does Lewis look constipated in every single shot?

    • Willa says:

The one of him on the bed I could see him sitting on the toilet constipated! Lol!

      • OutstandingWorldCitizen says:

You almost made me spit out my coffee!!! I diagnosed him as having Little Angry Mouth Syndrome otherwise known as LAMS. However I think you nailed it with constipation. He looks in dire need of Ex-lax and glycerin suppositories. HA!

She’s really is. It most likely she phoning it b/c broke. She’ll do anytype of photoshoot. I looked up her Wikipedia biography, they have a whole chapter on her financial troubles. Here’s a sample of it:

In February 2009, Leibovitz borrowed $15.5 million, having experienced financial challenges in recent years.[34] She put up as collateral, not only several houses, but the rights to all of her photographs. The New York Times noted “one of the world’s most successful photographers essentially pawned every snap of the shutter she had made or will make until the loans are paid off.” In July 2009, a breach of contract lawsuit against Leibovitz was filed by Art Capital Group in the amount of $24 million regarding the repayment of these loans.

fair enough. but clare danes isn’t exactly ‘dynamic material’ is she? Ever since she became a baby-daddy stealer and broken *several* relationships, I’ve kind of lost all respect and interest in her. AL has gained a horrible reputation and as a photographer in this era, anyone can be almost as amazing as her with the digital technology that’s available. So they’re both ‘meh’…no surprise what the end result of this combination was.

Beauty on the inside really does shine and nothing shiny here….

      • xxx says:

Yeah and she went broke because her partner had cancer and she spent the money on the best medical care she could get for her. America’s health system is insane.

  2. gloaming says:

I’m sorry but all I can see in these first three pics is Claire saying ‘Did you just fart?

    • yoyo says:

      @gloaming

SO true! LMAO! I was trying to categorize the very awkward looks these 2 have and I agree that Claire Dane’s is exactly that. And I agree for Damian that his look is a constipation cry for help. What a pair. LOL

  3. Jane says:

Boy….she looks really thrilled to be taking these pictures. Meh…

  4. storyteller says:

    So over Homeland.

    • Raquel says:

It’s a good show, but the kind that will tank fast if stretched out over multiple seasons. I still like it, but they should cut it short, while they are still ahead.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

      Sadly, so am I.

I found the first season to show a real grittiness and dedication to a truthful depiction of the HS world. By the second season, it was already requiring the audience to suspend their disbelief to an almost embarrassing degree. Sad because it started off with so much promise…But I still love Danes and Lewis so I hope the show can find a way to recover.

      • yoyo says:

Oh I know, Homeland totally jumped the shark. So sad. I really liked season one and it had such potential and then it became your standard 10pm soap opera with a litanny of nonsense where you weren’t even suspending disbelief but living in a parallel universe where everyone other than the main characters are the most incompetent fools that have ever existed. I really would like for the whole Carrie/Brody thing to be over and lets focus on spy games, intrigue and political shennanigans. Dar Addal and Saul for the win!

(In COMPLETELY unrelated news: the Captain Philips looks awesome!)

      • Bridget says:

The curse of the american tv system: we get these amazing, meticulously plotted out forst seasons, and then the second season isnt as good because they don’t have the same amount of time. Plus they clearly did not plan on having Brody continue to be a part of the show and had to plot around that. I still have high hopes for S3.

  5. Mayday says:

She got better looking as she got older, I always thought she was a bit weird looking on my so called life.

  6. Nev says:

    can’t wait for the show!!!!

    cover is meh. oh Vogue.

  7. Amelia says:

Where the hell is the rest of her leg in the bottom photo?!

    • Tulip says:

Thank-you! I thought it was just me.

Looks like the magic of photoshop strikes again.

  8. bns says:

    Anna Wintour sh-ts again. Meh.

  9. QQ says:

    UH-Mazing!!

  10. Lark says:

I like her, but these photos are terrible. Also, it is weird that Damian didn’t give a quote…may mean he was unwillingly to shill or give a nice sound bite for her.

  11. Megan Draper says:

Anyone know if Claire and Damian don’t get along now?

    • the original bellaluna says:

Megan – Supposedly there’s been tension between them on the set of season 3. Apparently, Damian’s a nice guy who cracks jokes and visits with crew and fans, while Clare is in a rush to get things done and get home to baby (which is totally understandable).

CB has the article. If you click on either of their names, it should show up.

  12. Sloane Wyatt says:

Homeland is still one of my faves. If she continues to develop her acting skills & leaves her face alone to age naturally, I can definitely see Claire D doing Meryl parts.

I can’t help bringing up Danes coming back from her adultery scandal of stealing the very pregnant Mary -Louise Parker’s man. KStew call Claire’s people STAT.

  13. Shelly says:

    Love Homeland, love Claire.

  14. kim says:

Great actress, bit ditched homeland bc storylines didn’t keep me tied to the show weekly.

  15. Lindsay says:

Will always love Claire from when she starred in My So Called Life. These photos are absolutely amazing!

  16. Wilma says:

She looks beautiful on the cover, but Lewis looks weird in all his shots.
I like her, she has this really artsy persona and seems to have accepted that this will make her sound pretentious a lot, but she doesn’t really care about that.

  17. TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

She is not Vogue material, should be on People instead, compare this to one of my favorite 90s Vogue covers (when it was still about fashion) featuring Amber Valetta and Shalom Harlow – actual top models, and quite beautiful in their own unique way. When will AW end her fascination with hollywood celebs?

  18. T.Fanty says:

My God, those are dull. Damian Lewis looks like he has only one expression throughout.

  19. Feebee says:

    I don’t see sexy/intense, I see yeah, whatever.

  20. emma says:

wow that coat on the cover looks terrible! even it looks photoshopped.

I really do like Homeland, but Dane’s screeching when she’s being ‘intense’ in scenes gets a little old.

  21. JessSaysNo says:

Her butt looks so weird in these photos. So freaking weird.

  22. A Fan says:

    Sexy and intense? Uhhh, no.

How about bland and not photogenic?

  23. lena80 says:

His lack of lips bother me lol
