George Clooney in Washington, but not for inauguration

All of the Democratic Party’s celebrity A-listers are getting so excited about Barack Obama’s inauguration next Tuesday. Many are making plans to trek to Washington and party with the politicos. But few have the dedication of George Clooney, who flew into Washington yesterday, a full week ahead of the inauguration.

George Clooney is so excited about Barack Obama’s inauguration that he has touched down in Washington D.C a full week ahead of the ceremony to mark the start of the new President’s term of office.

The Oceans Eleven star looked thrilled to be in the capital as he beamed for the cameras at the airport yesterday and signed autographs before getting a police escort to his car.

The actor is scheduled to appear at the Newseum – where the inauguration will be held next Tuesday – on January 26, so it looks like George will be in Washington for almost two weeks!

We hope Mr Clooney smartens up his appearance by then – he turned up wearing a very old-looking pair of filthy boots.

As it turns out, Clooney will not be staying on for the inauguration. He was only in town for a day to celebrate his father’s birthday. However, many stars will be showing up, which brings to mind several Hollywood-Washington problems. It was recently pointed out that Clooney, Halle Berry, Matt Damon and other Democratic Party celebrity loyalists made a concerted effort this election cycle to stay out of the political news, and stay away from the election drama. During the campaign, Obama made several trips to Los Angeles, nearly all of them for quiet fundraisers jam-packed with celebrities. However, many of these same celebrities will be coming to the inauguration, and a lot can happen in four years. Perhaps when Obama runs again in 2012, there will be more stories about Obama’s apparent closeness to Hollywood. It could be argued (and I tend to agree) that Obama’s now a bigger star than any actor.

Hmmm….Maybe the tourists will read the article at enterainmentwise and be misdirected so that the DC-area natives will actually be able to move around the city and VA/MD.

Not sure why they wrote, “The actor is scheduled to appear at the Newseum – where the inauguration will be held next Tuesday…,” because, of course, the ceremony itself will be held at the Capitol…(Though, yes, the museum isn’t too far away and is on Penn. Ave.)

I’m excited, but will be happy when all of the travel route restrictions are lifted and the Metro trains aren’t stuffed beyond capacity.

According to imdb, he has three movies in production including a film version of Roald Dahl’s _Fantastic Mr. Fox_. (Sorry, I love RD.) _Up in the Air_, and _Men Who Stare at Goats_ are the other two movies. All three are scheduled for release this year (as of now).
