Kelly Osbourne shows off her diamond solitaire engagement ring: pretty?

God, I love talking about jewelry. If I was more organized and anal retentive, I would try to really make my passion for jewelry into something more significant on this site. But as it is, I just write about jewelry whenever the story comes and slaps on the face. So, last week we discussed how Kelly Osbourne had gotten engaged to her boyfriend Matthew Mosshart. And now we’re getting the first look at her engagement ring! Kelly tweeted photos of her new manicure (and her dad’s new manicure too) and wouldn’t you know, we got a good look at her ring!

First of all, I hate her manicure. That’s a really tacky-looking mani. But I do like the ring. Apparently, the ring is a “custom” designed piece from Tiffany’s. It would have been a pretty standard round diamond solitaire, but I guess she wanted the platinum or white-gold “surround” on the diamond. I do like it – I like that it’s not some huge, “look at my ring!” piece. It seems to suit her personality and her style. I have a ring that looks a lot like this, only it’s not diamond, it’s quartz and sterling silver and it cost less than $50. Mine’s bigger too.

Kelly designed the engagement ring herself – she told media outlets, “I designed it to look like an earring that my father wore when I was little. I used to hold my finger up to his ear when I was little and say, ‘I want a ring like that.’ Now I have one!”

Apparently, Kelly and Matthew got engaged back in January in Anguilla, and they waited to confirm their news until now, when the ring was ready and they were ready to answer questions, I guess. Anyway, congrats. I think this relationship is much more “solid” than her previous relationships.

    Pretty, modern. Like.

  2. GiGi says:

Love it! Aside from being simple and lovely, bezel sets are super practical, too – she’ll never have to take it off!

  3. Lflips says:

Are those her father’s hands pictured? I like the ring, but I really like her outfit in the first pic.

    • kellie says:

Her fiancés hands I would think.
Edit-nope-there is a “Y” on the finger. They are Ozzys.

    • Meaghan says:

Love the matching mani’s, that is such a cute picture with her and her dads hands. Love Ozzy’s ring too!

Its simple and beautiful and I love it. I love the sparkle polish, the shape of the nails. I can’t remember the last time Kelly has had to many ‘loves’ from me!

  4. Mink says:

    I like Ozzy’s manicure better.

  5. kellybean says:

I think it’s a very pretty ring. I also like the sparkly manicure but I hate those pointy fingernails and the crosses could have been omitted. If she had a rounded square nail, it would look so much better. Kelly has lovely, long fingers.

  6. Micki says:

I like almond shaped nails(not that sharp though), no polish, thanks.
Her ring looks like the rings you can buy for 5$ in any fashion jewellery shop.

  7. truthful says:

I like her ring, not her manicure.

    congrats

  8. blue marie says:

I like the ring, it’s pretty. I also really like Ozzy’s skull ring. (I think his manicure looks better)

  9. Quinn says:

    What does his shirt say???

    Cannot stand her, really.

  10. wiffie says:

the ring is really pretty I think. And a sweet story to go with it.

  11. Lucy2 says:

Pretty. It’s fairly standard, but I like it.

  12. Norman Bates' Mother says:

I’m not much into jewelry myself but I like this ring. It’s pretty, simple and practical. As for the manicure – I really, realy hate the sharpened nails. It grosses me out for some reason and it would look hideous with any nail polish. Ozzy wins here.

  13. Cirque28 says:

Maybe they’re just well-lit (or ‘shopped), but Ozzy’s hands look surprisingly youthful!

I hate those stabby pointed tips on Kelly’s manicure. But her hair is adorable.

  14. bc says:

That’s my ring too! I don’t think it’s “custom” though, you can buy it at any Tiffany’s.

  15. JL says:

I like the simplicity of the ring and love Ozzy’s manicure.

  16. tracking says:

Tiffany is quite generic for such a distinctive girl. All that matters is if she likes it, of course.

  17. Finn says:

    Tiffany not Tiffany’s.

  18. BW says:

That’s one dead looking diamond. No sparkle, no fire. And it’s huge. At least 3 carats. Bezel sets make the stone look smaller because they cover the edges. And it’s a bit on the yellow, cloudy side. OK, I’m done bitchin’.

  19. gg says:

Ring’s pretty enough but boring – you can’t change it up with a stack or even put a wedding band next to it.

    • GiGi says:

A lot of people prefer the gap between the engagement ring & wedding ring – I wear a few different sets but the ones I wear the most have the gap.

  20. judyjudy says:

Her fiance has some amazing hair. He probably uses Sauve or something similar. Isn’t that always the way? Her shampoo costs $300, his costs $2 and his hair looks better.

I like the ring but not the recipient.

  21. Gina says:

Am I the only one to notice the not-so-subtle product placement? Right under their hands it says Esnail- Elegante Satisfaction. So she got paid for this gross tweet/instagram.

I can’t think of a tackier way to debut your engagement ring.

    • Bijlee says:

You. I like you. She’s a twitter celeb. It’s to be expected.

Also ring is boring. Then again I’m not a ring girl… I would lose mine within the first week of having it.

  22. Jane says:

Love the ring, dislike the manicure. Pointed nails were popular over 50 years ago. They just look too odd.

  23. Yelly says:

Ring is meh. She’s adorable though.

  24. Jayna says:

She has such beautiful pale skin and nice eyes and lips, and her naturally dark hair really made her features pop. I don’t understand why she does every color but dark again. It’s what makes her look prettier. At least, I like this hairstyle better with that color. The long extensions look nice the way it’s styled in that photo and this hue of violet is better on her than the blonde and also the grey she sported for a while.

  25. MeowuiRose says:

I agree…her Mani would be better with short nails. The ring is pretty. I’m not in love with it but it’s fine enough. As for Kelly, I used to really like her. She seemed genuine and smart and down to earth. Now she seems so desperate for attention and try hard AND going to the Kardashian baby shower made her lose major brownie points for me IMO. One last thing……it’s time to change the hair color!

  26. lettylynton says:

I love both manicures! And her ring is understated and lovely. I like that she has such a great relationship with her father. Such a lovely girl!

  27. MVD says:

The 90s want their ring back. Those bezel sets look dated to me. The manicure is also meh. She doesn’t seem like the nicest person either but I wish her well, she really got screwed over by the last guy.

  28. Jenna says:

Eh. It’s sleek and simple enough but…it’s kinda…boring. I also like Ozzy’s manicure way better than Kelly’s. lol

  29. Mandy says:

    I think I like Ozzy’s ring better. That thing is bada$$. 🙂

  30. Dana says:

Awful diamond. Not clear, no dispersion.

  31. Andrea says:

This ring seems far too tasteful for her.

  32. bluhare says:

I know blind items are crap a lot of the time, but I will confess they’re a guilty pleasure. And there was one awhile back about someone who got engaged and hated the ring she got so she took it back and was getting another one. Sounds like it could have been right and been Kelly. Sounds like her too.

  33. cutelittlehappything says:

I just clicked on this to see if there were pics of her fiance’s hair. Major hair envy here. 🙂

  34. Hello kitty says:

I can’t believe that nail place charges $120 for their manis! And it’s not even that great either! For $120, it better be shooting out laser beams from my nails or something, otherwise no way in hell I’ll ever pay that amount.

  35. Mia says:

Ooooh I’m in love with her manicure. That is a really gorgeous nail color and it compliments her skin tone. And of course I like the stiletto nails look. Hot! The ring looks a little boring to me. I just wish Kelly would give up on these crazy hair colors because they don’t do anything for her.

  36. KayLastima says:

I was chanting to myself before actually seeing it – “please don’t be some gigantic conspicuous consumption ring, please don’t be yellow and HUGE”- it is large, but it is tastefully large. It seems celebrity today, I’m talking Beyonce on down, don’t have a clue about how to wear a ring and not have the ring wear you. It just speaks to how gauche and insecure they really are. Kelly got it more right than wrong. And don’t even get me started on Holly Madison’s ring. I thought she was having us on. But yeah, the MASSIVE rock just has no place in our society. It just sounds the hue and cry of massive ego coupled with what seams to me as crippling self doubt. And quite frankly, it’s just so embarrassing. Have some self respect ladies. Are you an arm charm or an equal partner, cause your ring is publicly screaming chattel and/or “Princess Syndrome”.

  37. Bridget says:

I hate this nail shape. HATE it. I am ready for it not to be a ‘thing’ anymore. It’s just so dated and it doesn’t look good on anyone. Really, it just looks like Lee Press On Nails became a thing again.

    • Mia says:

Lol, it’s definitely a throwback to the 80’s. Fashion is cyclical. I wouldn’t call it dated as much as retro. What’s old is new again.

  38. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

The ring is nice, but nothing spectacular.

  39. dread pirate cuervo says:

I kind of love Ozzy’s manicure but I’m having a hard time picturing the Prince of Darkness sitting down for a set of acrylics.

  40. apsutter says:

Oh I love those types of rings! I love when the diamond is round and looks flat on top…so vintage! Is there a name for when it looks flat?
