Sarah Michelle Gellar: ‘My daughter thinks I get my hair done for a living’

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Yesterday, Kaiser covered the Sarah Michelle Gellar photos from the CBS/CW upfronts, so here are some cute pictures of Sarah with her daughter, Charlotte, after various ballet classes this month. I love Charlotte’s cute little leg warmers in all of these photos. She’s got some style and just the right amount of attitude. Of course, Sarah also gave birth last November to her second child, Rocky James, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr., and it looks like Sarah didn’t have any problem at all with dropping the baby weight.

Sarah is currently promoting her newest television show, “The Crazy Ones,” and she’s chatting up her family because she probably knows that everyone who loves Buffy wants to know about Buffy’s kids. Maybe. But Sarah seems like a very enthusiastic mother even though she freely acknowledges that little Charlotte has no idea what mommy does for a living. The child sounds absolutely adorable:

Little Charlotte Prinze isn’t aware — unlike the many legions of Buffy fans — that mom Sarah Michelle Gellar is an actress. Instead, Gellar’s 3-year-old with husband Freddie Prinze, Jr. just thinks the 36-year-old lives a life of glamorous leisure.

“I think my daughter thinks I get my hair done for a living and was very concerned, because I left with wet hair today, and she was very concerned that I wasn’t doing my job because my hair wasn’t dry,” Gellar told Us Weekly during a Television Critics Association event in Pasadena, Calif., promoting her new CBS comedy The Crazy Ones.

Charlotte’s baby brother, Rocky, Gellar says, is equally as oblivious. Jokes the actress of her son: “He’s 10 months old and I’m lucky he knows who I am!”

As she preps for her return to TV on The Crazy Ones this fall — where she’ll appear on CBS’ single-camera comedy as Robin Williams’ daughter — busy working mom Gellar can’t help but relish time at home with her kids.

Raising her children with husband of 10 years in California provides the actress a chance to stay active with her family. One bonding activity she and Charlotte especially enjoy? Gardening! “We have a garden and we grow everything ourselves and then make juices,” Gellar explained. As a result of their homegrown hobby, the entire family is eating healthier. “Charlotte loves kale juice and kale chips, so we try to make [meal planning] a family thing!”

[From Us Weekly]

Kale is a really big deal these days, right? I mean, it’s a trendy vegetable. Kaiser’s talking about Jennifer Aniston’s kale-chip indulgence today, and Sarah is talking about kale juicing, and it’s evidently one of the healthier types of lettuce for you — even healthier than spinach because the iron in kale absorbs better than the iron in spinach. I like a good kale salad even though it’s bitter, but kale juice? No thank you.

Bedhead if you put Kale, spinach, banana and mixed frozen fruit in a vitamix with some stevia it’s not bad! I think the banana balances out the bitter taste.

    • emmie_a says:

Or I add a tiny bit of honey and for some reason the smallest amount of honey gets rid of the bitter taste.

    • Nerd Alert says:

That’s a good one. I do kale, spinach, a green apple, and maybe a pear if they’re in season. When there’s fruit in the mix, you really can’t taste it.

  2. Claudia says:

Try adding a handful of kale to your smoothie for that extra health kick :). I tried it as an experiment and couldn’t taste it (as long as there are other fruity ingredients like banana and mango)– but anymore than a handful and you’ll begin to taste it. It did make my smoothie green, but I kind of liked that.

She looks great and that little girl is adorable!!!

  4. Snowpea says:

Is the little girl in the tutu Harlow Madden?

    • Claudia says:

That looks like Jessica Alba’s kid– Honest something or other? Honor?

      • Snowpea says:

Oh yeah! Honor! Could be 🙂

      • Angie says:

I don’t think it’s Jessica Alba’s oldest daughter. Honor has dark hair but her younger sister (Haven, something like that?) is a ginger but she is only one or two years, and the kid in the pictures seem older. But I’m not sure…

      • jaye says:

Definitely not little Honor Warren. She has very distinct facial features.

her daughter is a cutie and I hope Sarah’s new show takes off, would like to see her back on tv.

  6. Micki says:

I have a garden and I don’t grow “everything” myself. With the amount of tomatoes, cucumbers and rest salad ingredients we need I have to plow a whole field.
But it’s always fine to know children that can name more than one vegetable.

    I love kale chips!

I have had an irrational dislike of her ever since I first saw her on All My Children about 100 years ago. I’ve never understood why. I think she reminds me of someone I don’t like, but I can’t figure out who. It bugs me, because I usually give people the benefit of the doubt unless I have a reason.

    • Seagulls says:

I disliked her because of Swans Crossing character for years! She seems like a sweetheart, though.

      • Sharra55 says:

I love that you mentioned Swan’s Crossing! I can still do the Swan’s Crossing “dance” that they did on the show! LOL (hangs my head in embarrassment)

    • Veruca says:

      @Good —

Maybe because she played evil so well? She was awesome on All My Children! I knew then she’d be a star…

It took 2 seasons of Buffy to get over my disdain and accept that she’s just a damn good actress and not the spawn of Satan.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Haha! Maybe that was it. She was just too good at playing evil. Thank you!

  9. Anna says:

This is really cute. But then again, for most of these actresses – anyone who doesnt have a full-time network TV gig or back to back movie projects – getting their hair done really IS the job.

  10. Finn says:

Toss some kale into a stirfry – it’s delicious

  11. Talie says:

I always stick with spinach for my juicing because it masks way better. Kale is just…yuck.

  12. Fancy says:

    Her daughter is adorable!

If you juice kale with a chunk of fresh pineapple, it masks the taste well.

  13. TeamBrandi says:

I love that her and Freddie Prinze Jr. are still together. He became my imaginary boyfriend and prom date after She’s All That. Sigh… Oh yeah SMG is cool too! I was Team Buffy + Spike!

  14. emma says:

how cute! And she’s looking out for her mom too!

Is Freddie doing anything these days?
