Here are some photos of Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco at the Red Cross Gala Ball in Monaco on Friday night. The older royals seemed to be in attendance but not the younger royals (or, semi-royals) like Charlotte and Andrea Casiraghi. Andrea and his girlfriend Tatiana were probably home with their baby Sacha, who is only a few months old, I guess. More on Charlotte in a moment.
As for Charlene, she wore this turquoise gown that I’m assuming is Akris. She loves Akris, she wears a lot of Akris, and this looks like an Akris design, although I haven’t seen the designer ID confirmed anywhere. I think this shade of turquoise is difficult to pull off in a huge red carpet/ball gown sort of situation, especially turquoise satin/shiny silk. It can easily veer into a very cheap, pageant-queen sort of look. Charlene is trying to make it look sophisticated – is she pulling it off? Also, I still think Charlene needs to try to bring a little bit more glamour to her styling, especially for these big events. When you’re going to a gala or a ball, it’s perfectly acceptable to wear strong eye makeup and big jewelry. Charlene rarely wears necklaces or tiaras or anything. It’s boring.
Charlene and Albert did look like they were getting along even better than usual. Maybe that’s because Charlene imported a little blonde something-something?
Jamie Mitchell is set to become ambassador for a water safety program run by Princess Charlene, wife of Prince Albert of Monaco. The ten-time open ocean paddleboard champion met the princess and former South African Olympic swimmer in California last year where the two bonded over their love of water sports.
“A friend invited me for a weekend at, if you can believe this, (actress) Reese Witherspoon’s house and the princess and her brother were there,” Mr Mitchell told the Daily Telegraph.
“We started chatting and I explained what I do (with paddle boarding) and said ‘You guys should try it’ I organised a bunch of boards and took them paddling the next day.”
Princess Charlene extended an invite to Mr Mitchell to host a clinic in Monaco and the two kept in touch, he said. He now lives and works in Monaco organizing his first major learn-to-swim event for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.
“The prince and princess are really down-to-earth. I couldn’t have better bosses… (but) it is a whole different world over here,” he said. “I certainly get funny looks walking around with the scraggly blond hair. I’ve had the royal treatment, for lack of a better term, but I’m trying not to get caught up in it too much. At the end of the day I’m here to do a job.”
There’s also a rumor that Jamie is actually living in the castle with Charlene and Albert. Hm. So, did Charlene just organize some attractive blonde athlete to move to Monaco and be her “ambassador” for her “charity”?
As for Charlotte Casiraghi… I mentioned a while back that there are some significant rumors that Charlotte is pregnant. Well, she just turned 27 years old a few days ago, and the rumors are still around. In fact, the rumors are all over the place. They’re saying the father is Gad Elmaleh, who is 42 years old. Damn. So, the next royal(-ish) baby in Monaco will be from Charlotte and not Charlene? Damn, Charlene.

I think I tried on this dress for my college formal…10 years ago. Props for Char wearing A COLOR, tho, and not looking like she’s about to burst into tears or die. Baby steps!

The other day I was watching the video of her trying on her bridal tiara, “the Foam Tiara” with the designer. Even with 60 carats of diamonds on her head, the girl looked like she just wanted to shrivel up in a ball and cry. Sad may just be her default face.

I’m sure you’re kidding because there is no way a British royal would even touch a Grimaldi. Even though the Brits are marrying non-royals, the Grimaldis aren’t on their list or any other royal list. Many years ago, someone started a rumor that Prince Albert was going to marry one of the Spanish Infantas. King Juan Carlos was so angry that he issued a statement to deny it, and royals never issue denials (at least not back then). Nobody wants to get involved with that family.

The Brits especially haaaaaaate the Grimaldis. Way back when British Hello would feature them, they’d get letters requesting that they not feature those “Grimaldi sluts”. Charlotte and the boyfriend are totally Caroline and Phillipe Junot redux except they won’t make Caroline marry her much older,very unsuitable man.
No British royal would even touch a Grimaldi? Please… of course they would not want to photographed next to gorgeous Caroline and her kids. The British probably would want their royals compared either. The Grimaldis are so much better looking and have better style. Sure, they’re not into marrying virgins (Diana) or pretending to be virgins (Waity)but I love to see them wherever they go. Charlotte is so chic and beautiful, not a horse face in dowdy clothes like some princesses I won’t mention. 😉
I’ve never heard of that story. I only know that Infanta Cristina was reported to have been a possible match for Prince Philippe, now King of the Belgians, but Cristina refused. Charles and Caroline of Monaco was also a rumour.
I truly doubt the other royals “hate” the Grimaldis that much. King Juan Carlos of Spain’s grandmother, Victoria Eugenia, was Albert’s godmother and Juan Carlos himself is Albert’s godfather. Grace was a good friend of Queen Sofia and used to visit Zarzuela Palace in Madrid.

The King of Spain rarely attends royal/princely weddings, but he made an exception when Albert was getting married in 2011. If it weren’t for health complications, he would have attended and he personally called Albert to apologize.
Every other European royal family sent representation to Albert’s wedding. The Swedish royals attended as a whole family since the Grimaldis are very good friends with them. Ditto the Belgian royals attending en masse. Luxembourg also had their Grand Duke and Grand Duchess + heir to the throne in attendance. And Belgium and Lux royals are very devout Catholics who would have disapproved of the Grimaldi circus. 😉
And the Windsors are ones to talk. LOL.

I think she looks nice and she’s kind of smiling. She really is very pretty but I agree, she could use a little bling now and then. Caroline also looks nice but then, she always does. Fat Albert looks the same . . . blotted and ugly.

I think this is a nice balance between her default setting of neutrals, and the glitz and glamour expected of the wife of a reigning Prince of a less than serious royal family (the Monegasques are seen as a bit Euro-trash over here). At least it’s baby steps, even if the styling isn’t quite there. That dress needs hemming better, for a start.
She’s got some stunning jewellery that she comissioned. The Ocean Tiara can also be a necklace, and would loook seriously stunning with that Mediterranean blue dress.
I go d her so I attractive and she had very wide shoulders from years of swimming. I know he is a fat ugly douche but wondering what either one of them saw in the other considering his position he could have had someone willing to play the part happily. As for her I can’t figure out what her interest in him is so since the being a princess clearly isn’t an appeal to her.

Albert has burned so many bridges it’s ridiculous. That being said, of no baby is forthcoming it’s on her since he as proved that he isn’t infertile.

I think part of it’s her posture. I think she’s self concious about not looking taller than Albert, so she slumps/hunches over. If she stood tall and smiled it would be such a difference.

As to all the baby stuff – her situation is practically medieval, for goodness sake! If Monaco does not have a LEGITIMATE heir, the territory returns to France under some ancient law. His two kids: ILLEGITIMATE, Andrea’s child: ILLEGITIMATE, Charlotte’s baby: ILLEGITIMATE…
How awful for her that every womb in her vicinity is bearing fruit except hers!! No pressure! I feel desperate FOR her…. poor thing.
That law has been changed more than a decade ago in 2002. If Charlotte marries the father of her child, the baby will be legitimized and be in the line of succession.
Albert’s heir is his sister Caroline and after Caroline, her children are in line. Andrea is getting married, probably this October or late 2013, and that will legitimize his son and put the baby in the line of succession.
Stephanie is also in line to the throne as well as two of her kids. Her youngest child is excluded because Stephanie didn’t marry the father.
Prince Ranier changed the succession law in order to prevent this “Monaco going back to France” rule. That will not happen anymore as the Monegasque throne has several legitimate heirs.
Well I am relieved to hear all that – takes the pressure off poor Charlene…

I like that Charlene doesn’t wear big necklaces and tiaras, as I think they invariably look absolutely ridiculous. Besides, those earrings are huge. One should not wear more than one large piece of jewelry at a time, and if the piece is that big, any other jewelry will look very tacky with it.
She looks like she’s going to her high school prom or is a bridesmaid at a 90’s wedding. The problem with some European styles, like this dress is that, even though they are meant to look classic and refined, they just look cheap. Cheap cheap cheap and the earrings only add to the cheap factor. I know all of her look (including the plastic surgery) costs a lot of money, but it looks tacky.
I’m shocked and appalled that the Grimaldis are being compared to the Kardashians out of all people. They are a family that loves each other with youngsters that are living their lives without the usual pressure and demands of royalty. They are fresh, speak many languages, educated, and have made significant investments over the years. Their lifestyles are not being paid for by the taxpapers. Monaco is a small beautiful country with an excellent quality of life.
Since I’m a millennial in my early twenties who actually believes in marriage, of course I’d want them to get married and settle; but they are also entitled to their choices and are very well aware of what they are doing.
I think the Grimaldis have the best of both worlds; a royal title with an extremely moneyed background and the ability to do as they please like “normal” people.
You made some good points here! I’m not maybe shocked that they are here compared to the Kardashians, but I just don’t see that comparison fitting AT ALL…
The Grimaldis are quite eccentric and wild-living amongst the royals, but still these people have way more style than some Kardashians. Even on bad days.
And even Albert, who is horrible, has more style because he’s not a plastic surgery-puppet. Poor Charlene has unfortunately gone under knife, but at least she was an athlete and not a reality-crap “star”.
The lack of passion between the prince and his wife is apparent in nearly every photo taken of them together.
And what the heck has Caroline done to her face? I thought she was growing old gracefully with soft lines adding maturity to her elegant bone structure. Looks like she’s been experimenting with fillers that have distorted her signature face.
At least she takes more fashion risks than some of the others we are obsessed with.

Still love her, she is one of my favourite royals. I thank God whenever she or Angelina wears colour!
She doesn’t look as miserable as she usually does with Albert. That vacation away from him was good for her! Or maybe she is just better at pretending to be happy around him, or has made peace with being his wife. Go to a few formal functions dressed up next to him, the rest of the time vacation around the world without him.
And Gad Elmaleh and Charlotte are having a baby? Interesting… I don’t see those two ever getting married. Gad isn’t Catholic, not sure if that’s a factor with the Grimaldis? I can’t remember what religion they are, but Gad is a Moroccan Jew. I’m actually going to see him do stand up in NYC in October, I can report back and say if I see Charlotte or not.

Diana was beautiful the only good looking one out of the bunch Kate is cute with the nice smile William used to be handsome but he has gotten ugly Charles and Harry and the rest of that family are ugly too. So why people are saying the Grimaldis are ugly no the are not I dare someone to find one ugly member of that family. Princess Charlene is stunning, Prince Albert is not ugly he may be fat and bald but not ugly out of all of them he looks the most like Princess Grace and his sisters are nice looking too with good looking children.
