Dustin Hoffman has been ‘surgically cured’ of cancer

Here’s a celebrity story with a happy ending that just leaves me wanting for details. Dustin Hoffman, 75, recently confirmed that he underwent surgical treatment for some kind of cancer, and that it was successful. So it sounds like he’s cancer free.

Dustin Hoffman has been successfully treated for cancer, his rep Jodi Gottlieb tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“It was detected early and he has been surgically cured,” she says. “Dustin is feeling great and is in good health.”

The two-time Oscar-winning actor and director, 75, will undergo doctor-recommended preventative treatments to minimize the chance of a recurrence in years to come.

Gottlieb declined to disclose further information about Hoffman’s cancer or treatments.

Hoffman has spent the last year promoting his film, Quartet, which marked his directorial debut.

He recently wrapped production on Jon Favreau’s Chef in mid-July and is scheduled to begin filming Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot opposite Dame Judi Dench in the fall.

The actor will also star in the feature film, Boys Choir, set to begin production later this year or early 2014.

I’m glad to hear that Hoffman is ok, whatever kind of cancer he had, and that they caught it early. It’s also nice to learn that he’s been so busy. Honestly I thought that Hoffman was at least 10 years younger. He’s been around so long, and has been in so many excellent movies, that I still think of him as a much younger actor. I’ve seen Tootsie, Rain Man, and the Graduate so many times I’ve lost count. Take care, Mr. Hoffman, and stay well.

I LOVE his guy. Recently my niece sent me a link that made me love him even more. During an interview with the American Film Institute, be broke down explaining how he felt to be a “not so pretty woman” when he was in his Tootsie makeup and how it made him appreciate women for what they are on the inside, not the outside. Worth watching. It’s what some women experience daily.

I hope he continues in good health. He is a national treasure.

That was a great interview, thanks for that. If only ALL men could have such an epiphany as he did, about how superficial they are when it comes to women. There’s much more to us than hair, makeup and boobs. Brains, a heart and a soul should matter much more don’t you think? And let’s not forget that not all men are walking Adonis’ are they, though many think that’s the case.

I wish him well. He’s been entertaining us for many years making us laugh and cry, as only a true talent can.
