  1. “You would NOT have said that if he were from a public school. You wouldn’t have even cared in the first place.”

Actually, I would have been more inclined to say it if he was a public school student. American education sucks — public, private and home-schooling.

This’ll be the last I interject, but I’m not sure why you need to take it so personally. It’s kind of ridiculous to be so upset about the stray comment. I could decide that you’re personally insulting my schooling and intelligence with the public school quotes, but I’m not.

  2. Maybe he was just nervous but I got the impression when he tried to read the winner that Jaden Smith didn’t read that well. So much for homeschooling.

  3. That is such a narrow-minded remark. Hopefully that was a complete joke; I was homeschooled and I am now a senior Pre-Med student. I won a prize from the university for writing the best essay, of ALL the classes, for the ENTIRE academic year of 2006- as just one example.
So much for public schooled kids…

  4. I’m a public school kid and could list similar achievements. I know some perfectly educated and intelligent home-schooled people, but that depends on the kind of program someone runs within their home. Public schools are shit a lot of the time, but homeschooling can cause just as many problems. Usually they’re social and emotional issues rather than academic because they don’t spend as much time around other kids.

It probably was a joke. No need to get so defensive.

  6. Okay, this live blogging hasn’t been so far (thanx CB for doing this, watching it myself on Pro7), but Germany won its second Oscar EVER tonight just about a sec ago. This is soooo exciting! Finally again, after about 25 years or so… GREAT!!!

Besides… Ellen is doing great and I way much more love the Oscars than I did the years before. Everybody seem so much more relaxed… :o))))

    Cheers

  8. Where’s an eye rolling icon when you need one?
I was commenting on his home schooling, or lack there of. Not the state of homeschooling in general. Maybe they only teach perception in public school.

  9. I didn’t watch this but from what I gather Jaden was a presenter. And thus what I perceive is that a judgement on his education is out of place, since he’s a) very young b) in front of crowds and c) in front of cameras.
Get up there and strut your damned stuff in front of all those people and see if you dont slip up. Why automatically pick his education?
You would NOT have said that if he were from a public school. You wouldn’t have even cared in the first place.
So they don’t teach logic in public school; but the biggest defecit is open-mindedness for people who didn’t attned your schools.

  10. And by the way, you need to learn better writing because “so much for homeschooling” is a general statement, and not as specific as you claim it to be.
I read that sentence right; you didn’t communicate your thoughts correctly.

  11. everyone just needs to calm down with this education argument. i think jaden did a lovely job anyways.

  12. Jaden was really cute and he did mess up a little but from what I remember he recovered well. I think it had to do with this age.

I fell asleep around 3:30, just an hour and a half into the ceremony. I was exhausted, sorry about that! I’ll watch the rest this morning and comment on it today.

That is great that Germany won, thanks Sarah!

  13. Hi Celebitchy,
It sounds like you don’t know much about John C. Reilly. It would be worth your time to imdb some of his movie credits and pick up a few of his films just to see his work. He is an AMAZING actor who has a huge body of supporting work. He actually sang in Chicago as “Mr. Cellophane” (and was terrific). His work is tremendously human and honest.

  14. Great! Yes I think he’s just young, that’s all! That was my whole point ;) Now I feel MUCH better!! :)

  15. This is hardly the place for a schooling argument.
I stated my opinion, and only because it was mentioned in the text. You are free to disagree but that doesn’t make you right. I still stand by my statement. You could see him trying to sound out the words when he tried to read the winner’s name.

  16. It doesn’t matter where or how you’re schooled if you get stage nerves in front of a large group of people. Or, for that matter, if you can’t see properly.

It’s a bit suspect to assume a reading glitch immediately equates to low intelligence. But immediately making that assumption does say a lot about the person making it.

  17. Who said anything about low intelligence? Man was that a leap.

  18. Yeah you’re right, I re-read it right after I posted it and thought that.

But here you can’t delete or re-edit, so I let my assumptions speak for themselves.

  19. Laughable. Right? So what then, you think youre right instead or something? Like I said- laughable. Moving on….

  20. Thanks guys, after reading all the homeschooling argument crap I can’t even remember what I was going to post about…wasn’t the topic something regarding the Oscars?

  21. Was supposed to be, yeah. Sorry for that. :) Ummmm…. what did you think of Gwyneth’s dress? …. :P

  22. Hmmm…I think part of me really thinks Gwyneth is so freaking elegant and put together and completely beautiful - the other part thinks she looks like a snobby b#$ch- must be the envy talking right? :)
PS- I’d say she pulled it off!

  24. “I am now a senior Pre-Med student.” Which doesn’t mean you’ll be accepted at medical school, or if you do, make it all the way through.
    Get over yourself, wonker.

  25. “I won a prize from the university for writing the best essay, of ALL the classes, for the ENTIRE academic year of 2006,” Pecarrie says as she pulls her dress over her head. “Look at my underwear, look at my underwear!!!”

  26. Home schooling is for:

    1. Kids who are total freaks;
    2. Kids whose parents are total freaks; or
    3. Both.

I was home-schooled and I can barely make eye contact, much less have a normal conversation.
