True Blood: is Eric coming back, did Tara’s mom poison her with Hep-V? (spoilers)

I was considering covering the story that True Blood’s Rutina Wesley (Tara) recently filed for divorce from her husband of eight years. Then I realized that what I really wanted to do was talk about True Blood again. I just read an interview in TVLine with the new showrunner, Brian Buckner, who took over from Alan Ball. The article left a bad taste in my mouth and reminded me of all the inconsistencies and plot holes that were in the show’s finale. Buckner sounded arrogant and out of touch with the fans, and I came away with very little hope for the upcoming season. Please be forewarned that there are massive spoilers in this interview, so if you’d like to avoid knowing what happens, stop reading now. Otherwise let’s read together and then parse this out, shall we?

TVLINE | I’m guessing Eric won’t suddenly be alive and well in the Season 7 premiere.
No. That would be a cheat, wouldn’t it? That would be an incredible cheat. Pam has gone off in search of Eric, and maybe she’s going to be the one to find him, y’know?

TVLINE | Let’s talk about Alexander’s nude scene. Full-frontal nudity on a guy is not something you see often on television.
Correct.

TVLINE | What kind of behind-the-scenes conversations took place prior to shooting?
Alex Skarsgard was the coolest camper in the world. There’s no conversation with him. He’s Swedish. They’re naked all the time. As a matter of fact, when I saw what we had on camera, I sent him an email that said, “We’re going to lock picture. Are you OK with this?” He said, “No problemo.” That was the conversation. It couldn’t have been easier.

TVLINE | Did the reaction surprise you — or him? Probably not.
I think sometimes we are impressed by how much people care. But I don’t think that people care was a surprise. He knew the gift he was giving everybody. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Moving on, talk to me about the decision to jump ahead six months.
Look, we’re going into a seventh season. I’m aware that people like the familiar, but we have to change. We have to be able to pivot. There were bits of story in there that I didn’t necessarily, nor did any of the other writers, want to show. The fallout from what Bill had done… Ours is a show that is so constrained by [our narrative structure]. We’re not 24, but we’re damn close – and sometimes it’s really refreshing to be able to shuffle the deck. For me, it’s fun. We will obviously pick up some of the pieces and explain how certain things happened. But what I think some people found jarring, to me was really refreshing. It was that: The world has changed, this virus has mutated, and this is the way the world is going to look now. Meanwhile, life beats on in this small town.

TVLINE | The show has flirted with a Sookie and Alcide romance for years. Why was now the right time to pull the trigger on that?
In a world where almost everybody is a creature of some kind, Alcide is the most human of all of our creatures. Now, that’s not to say that it was his most human season. We all felt the same thing that the audience was feeling, which was that Alcide needed to come back to center. So it was that as much as anything else. And it was also that Sookie’s going to put her money where her mouth is and say “no more vampires.” She got into it with Warlow without knowing he was a vampire, so she was trying. But this shows growth for Sookie. I mean, I suppose he’s a hunk, so at least she’s still getting her piece. [Laughs] He’s the most normal, most human, most down-to-earth of any of her suitors. To me, with Eric gone and off on his own story going forward, I think it’s a pretty obvious triangle we’re setting up between Bill and Sookie and Alcide.

TVLINE | Are you looking at Season 7 as a reset of sorts for Bill?
Absolutely. We don’t want Bill to be an a—hole. Whereas the show that I love watching most right now, Breaking Bad, Walter White is on a downward trajectory with the consequences of his actions. The question we’re going to be asking this coming season is: Can Bill be forgiven? Because he made his intentions clear. One thing that I noticed – and I probably shouldn’t read as much as I’ve been reading, but I have been, in terms of audience reaction – is the idea that characters can’t change. I will put to bed one thing for you: this idea that Lettie Mae is trying to poison Tara? It’s absurd. That is genuine. And I realize that on our show, because it’s been so incredibly plot-driven for the past several years, you insert a Big Bad and then have the characters react in the way we expect them to react. That’s sort of what’s been going on. When we let characters change, when we let the show be character-driven, I think people don’t know what to do with that. So with Lettie Mae and Tara, not to say that everything is going to go great, but the conflict is not going to be she’s poisoning Tara. By the same token, I think Bill doesn’t have a trick up his sleeve this time. I think he’s genuine. The real question is about forgiveness.

TVLINE | What do you see as the theme of Season 7?
The show started out as, “Let’s see if vampires and humans can get along.” We’re returning to that original promise of the show. And because humans and vampires are being forced together, we’re going to be examining that with all of our characters. Everyone’s going to come under the umbrella of that main story. These are complicated relationships now because they’re feeding – it’s not necessarily sex, but things get confused sometimes, especially in vampires’ minds – so you’re going to be looking at a number of complicated three-way, four-way relationships.

[From TV Line]

I’ve read all but the last two books in the Southern Vampire mysteries, on which True Blood is based. Sookie is supposed to be with Eric, not Bill and for God’s sake not Alcide. I care very little about Sookie on the TV show, but the fans also want to see a Sookie and Eric romance. Those two did get together briefly in the show. Why is that so conveniently forgotten?

On Buckner’s assertion that it’s “absurd” that Tara’s mom would try and infect her with Hep-V, are you kidding me? The last time we saw those characters together, Tara’s mom disowned her. In their earlier story arc, Tara’s mom was an alcoholic who would turn on a dime and beat her. Then she had an exorcism, found religion and conspired to steal the preacher away from his wife. This is not a trustworthy woman, and it’s clear to me that Buckner does not know these characters.

Bill is a total asshole! His whole reason for romancing Sookie was to spy on her. He became a power-hungry creep who back stabbed his best friend, even before he had Lilith’s blood. Sookie distrusts him for a very good reason, we don’t want her to get back with Bill. This whole notion of “forgiveness” and a “character driven” show is based on characters that are inconsistent at best. It’s not going to work, and I get the very strong impression from this interview that the next season of True Blood will be a total train wreck.

There’s more in that interview that I didn’t include here, especially a very big spoiler about Jason and that vamp Violet’s relationship. It’s a doozy. Also, Bruckner insists that they’re not going to do a “Walking Dead” theme in the next season, but it sure looked that way in the finale.

As for Eric’s nude scene, there’s a nice article in EW which lets us know the book he was reading – for those of you who might care about that.

    Hopefully he has learned not to mess with Eric fans. As for Tara and her mom, he’s probably pissed he didn’t think of it first.

  2. Anna says:

    Googled the NSFW close-ups yesterday. That’s not a terribly big gift ASkars was giving…but was pleased by all the hairlessness.

    • truthSF says:

      Lol @Anna, are you on a d!ck patrol again? Do I have to alert Chemsworth about your slutty pastime? 😀

    • GiGi says:

      I replayed it while standing very *very* close to the tv yesterday. And then I found my mind doing this – “Well, he is very tall… maybe it’s just an optical illusion… sound stages are very cold places, aren’t they?” It was a bit underwhelming, honestly, but then I’m a bit of a size queen, lol!

      • Anna says:

        Maybe we’ve got a grower 🙂 But obviously he doesnt care about our judgement!

      • GiGi says:

        I thought the same thing, Anna – not like it really matters – he’s still pretty to look at and obvs doing just fine without me, lol!

    • Abby says:

      You’re not picturing it in it’s happy state! If it’s attached to Skarsgard, it’s delicious.

    • Shannon says:

      It was soft. Give the poor bastard some credit hahahahaha maybe he’s a grower not a show-er

  3. Kaye says:

    To me Tara was almost unrecognizable in the finale. I can’t decide if she’s had work done, or if the storyline required her to be so unemotional and held in. I miss sassy Tara from the first couple of seasons. I don’t like shouty weird Tara so much.

    • MegG says:

      I haven’t watched this in a very long time and not up to speed. But after seeing these pics of Alex, I want to watch!

    • KayLastima says:

      Sassy Tara was worth the viewing. This new Tara is always over the top and almost completely unwatchable, to the point where I could give two figs about her. The same with Pam this season. She was way less subtlety delicious which is a huge disservice to the viewers and makes us work too hard to find anything redeeming to root, for which in turn allowed us to “rest” a bit before the next crisis explodes in the nano second after an almost thoughtful moment. Give us a chance to visit with the characters for a moment, please. And why could you have not used the always compelling Lafayette in his own arc instead of using him as just a teeny bridge to the other story lines??? He is gold and you should not make him shine less unless you are trying to lose me as a viewer.

  4. blue marie says:

    I’ve read all but the last book and refuse to read it, since someone already told me what happens.

    this guy sounds like a douchenozzle and his lack of audience will be his reward. I get that the books and show are not the same but to kill one of the central characters seems stupid.

    • Ellie says:

      Right?! Let’s just hope they don’t decide to end the series that way, too. I don’t want or need to see that!

    • claire says:

      The last book was horrible. Total disappointment. Not only was it just nonsensical the way she handled things but the writing just seemed phoned in. I think the worst reviews you can read on it pretty much got their criticisms right.

    • nc_magnolia says:

      Douche nozzle is 100% correct.

      I have been a devoted Trubie fan since season 1. Even when Alan Ball starting throwing bizarre story lines into the mix, I kept watching. He kept Pam funny and snarky, Eric sexy and chill and Lafayette one of the most hilarious characters on the show. But this season with Buckner, TB totally jumped the shark. Seriously, to the point that there’s still an episode or two on DVR that I haven’t even bothered to watch.

      Buckner is the WORST. Please God, get another showrunner for season 7. Even one of the grips would do a better job. Ditch Alcide, def ditch Sam’s irrelevant new girlfriend and give us back the snappy old Lala. AND BRING BACK MY ERIC NORTHMAN, DAMMIT.

      • Decloo says:

        I agree with everything you have said. Couldn’t wait to finish this season as it was such a snooze. Lafayette and Pam are the best characters, in my opinion, though Pam’s bitchiness was non too subtle in season 7 which was a waste of her great acting. I’m really going to miss Terry, too.

  5. Maria says:

    Michael Faasbender ruined every other actor’s full frontal scene with Liam Nelson being the exception….

    Alex has nice thighs though.

    Nhf Sookie and Alcide (JM is handsome but so bland to me). I can at least love to hate Bill but I feel nothing for the wolf.

    • gefeylich says:

      Yeah, apparently Buckner has swallowed Ball’s “Beeel/Sucky 4EVA SOULMATES!!” Kool-Aid, but the problem is, no one watching TB gives a rat’s ass about them nor a stupid triangle involving them and the wooden Alcide. BORING.

      As for Beeel’s “redemption” – I hope everyone has twigged that he’s this series’ Angel. He’s “speschul,” the “hero” and can do no real wrong. Of course all his assholish acts will be wiped away next season. Tabula rasa!

  6. Dorothy#1 says:

    I have read all the books and watched all seasons of true blood and I can appreciate the differences. But I agree Sookie should have been with Eric longer, they are so hot together!!

    You should read the final book, it doesn’t end the way I think it should BUT it’s the last one!!

    • truthSF says:

      Do tell, how does it end?

      • Celebitchy says:

        Grrr the comments that were here freaking ruined the end of the books for me. I mean I will still read them but I deleted those comments so they don’t ruin it for other people. Google it next time!

      • Nerd Alert says:

        Jeeze, I only read the first 3 and can’t take it anymore. Is there a website that recaps the last ten? LOL.

      • Celebitchy says:

        @Nerd Alert if you Go to Wikipedia they have detailed individual summaries of each. (Follow the links for each title)

      • Nerd Alert says:

        Thanks, CB. This will save me a lot of time.

        [Everyone ignore the fact that I never thought of Wikipedia, thx]

      • lucy2 says:

        I just got the last book from the library. I heard it was terrible, but figured I might as well finish out the series and it’s a quick read.
        One of the interviews I read with the showrunner spoiled the ending for me!

  7. Isabel says:

    ‘We all felt the same thing that the audience was feeling, which was that Alcide needed to come back to center.’

    WHUT? Helll naaaaaaaaaaaah!
    Oh Buckie Buckner, maybe you should go online more and read what people actually have to say.

    I have never seen a fan mentioning Alcide should get a bigger part. I only hear people saying he can’t act, the char is annoying and only there to show his ass etc etc etc.

    • nc_magnolia says:

      Yeah, really.

      WTF, was that one of the voices in Buckner’s head?? Keeping Alcide just to lose Eric is NOT a good tradeoff. *scowl*

    • Decloo says:

      As i understood it he was saying that Alcide should come back to being his reasonable self. He got kind of power hungry when he became pack master and became overly violent and angry.

  8. chloe says:

    This show is getting worse with every season, Sookie annoys me to death, Alcide yawn, Bill is double yawn. I think they completely messed up the whole Warlow storyline, at first he’s kind of bad and then he is good and then all of a sudden he’s really bad, the writers need to make up their minds. I’m actually surprised that Alex is coming back, I bet he ‘ll only be in a few episodes next season, he’s trying to get off a sinking ship.

  9. Abby says:

    See, you get it!! Everyone seems to get it except for the effing writers of the show! I’m not watching for a Sookie/Bill/Alcide triangle I can tell you that. Based on the way Sookie was eyeballing and batting her eyelashes at Bill in the finale, forgiveness is on the menu. I might choke down a tentative friendship, but romance? Ugh. If that’s where they’re going, I just can’t.

  10. Jennifer12 says:

    I just love that screen shot with him naked on a lawn chair in the snow. Those long, powerful thighs…. beautiful arms…. he’s a gift alright. *swoons to floor*

  11. lucy2 says:

    Bill should be an a-hole – that’s the only time he’s interesting! When he’s all mopey over Sookie, I can’t stand him. Their fighting was one of the highlights of this season for me.

    I’m a little disappointed Buckner gave away so much in these interviews, especially the stuff regarding Lettie Mae, because that would have actually been a good twist, not “absurd”. Besides, this show has never been afraid of the absurd.
    I think they were surprised how nutso some Eric fans went (really, who thought he was REALLY dead?) and are trying to do some damage control, but giving away major finale cliffhangers a few days later seems like a bad idea.

    • CC says:

      I no longer watch the show, but those idiot writers do live in a bubble, and must mumble themselves to sleep by saying “only a vocal minority care about Eric, what people want to see is more Bill-Sookie. oh and Alcide.”

      Morons, what can I say?

  12. Launicaangelina says:

    I really enjoyed this season. They really streamlined the stories and had them actually related to one another. I was even okay with the finale. True Blood needs to have a jump in time to keep things fresh. I’m willing to give Brian Buckner a chance on season 7 since he improved the show during season 6. Alan started well in season 1 and 2 but went off the rails after. I kept watching because it’s my fun, guilty pleasure.

    • mata says:

      I agree. It seemed like the last few seasons, they were all over the place, whereas this one tightened up the plot a bit.

  13. Maria_Spain says:

    worst season finale ever…. plz true blood writers…im a big fan of The walking dead…i don´t need that here -_-

    plus ..alcides &”zuki” ??? No Fkng way no chemistry at all.5000 wherever years old vamp (warlow) die so easily??
    she will end up with bill and we will be watching some kind of bad mtv show about Anna & stephen :@ .
    I hated waisting so much time and energy on this crap, no Eric no season 7 for me.

  14. mia girl says:

    I don’t know…if you are still watching True Blood at this point, why are you surprised/frustrated with inconsistencies, plot holes, etc. That ship sailed long ago. It’s something to be expected.

    I’m still watching because it’s pure camp and for every low point, there are some really great scenes. I actually enjoyed this season quite a bit (although agree the finale was weak). We got to see a lot of secondary characters/actors deliver some memorable scenes. (Andy for example).

    And for all the Eric fans, I think this was one of the character’s best seasons, especially since his story arc wasn’t tied to Sookie. In fact, I find him much hotter/interesting when he is on his own or with other females on the program. I’d prefer to see him “fall” for anyone but Sookie at this point.

    I don’t mind Sookie and Bill ending up together, because that’s probably the one consistent narrative in all the seasons… they were always going to be together.

    Maybe because I never read the source material beyond the first book, I am just more forgiving of the whole thing.

    PS You can have Alcide though… can’t stand that character. And more Lala next season please.

    • TX Laney says:

      mia girl, I agree with you.

      I mean let’s be honest, True Blood’s aim was to never win an Emmy or Golden Globe…it was meant to entertain. It is a story based on a world of the supernatural and the impossible. The story has to be taken with a grain of salt. I think what Allan Ball wanted to ultimate do was to create a fully rounded world outside of Sookie Stackhouse. I’ve loved LaFayette and his storyline. His character becoming a medium actually fits with his spirituality and openness to all things. Love you LALA!!!

      I mean really, you’re watching a show that introduced a maenad into the mix…..don’t take it too seriously. I know that’s in the books as well.

      Since I haven’t really read the books outside the first 3, I am not too invested in who Sookie ends up with even if it is Bill. Do I love Eric…oh hecks yeah and that finale made my night…but it’s not the end of the world if they don’t end up together. I’ve enjoyed watching Eric on his own and to be able to see a whole different side to him is appealing. His deep love for his sister and Maker rounds out his cold as ice bad ass Viking Vampire exterior and humanizes him.

      I’ve also enjoyed watching Bill’s progeny/Maker relationship grow deeper. It really reminds you of his backstory of a father who lost his children at the whim of a vampire.

      All in all, True Blood is not the Sopranos nor does it aim to be so. It is vampire campiness with some great storylines intertwined and packed with a bunch of characters who make up this fictional world.

      • CC says:

        Actually it was, then it went down the Desperate Housewives path. Both hows got so idiotic that they couldn’t be taken seriously by anyone.

    • blue marie says:

      that was my biggest complaint about this season, absolutely nothing happened with Lala-he was just background and that’s a waste.

    • lucy2 says:

      I agree – I watch because it’s campy and fun and occasionally really good (plus, hello Skarsgard), and this season (except the finale) was much improved over last.
      But I still want them to tighten up their game a bit. This is still a high budget, popular show, and there’s no reason they need to cheap out on the writing. I can overlook a lot of inconsistencies if it helps deliver a better plot, but get bothered when it’s stuff that’s easy to fix, or comes across as laziness in details from the writing team. I don’t need it to be a work of high art like Mad Men or Breaking Bad, but I still want them to strive for well written camp.
      They did make some huge steps in correcting last season’s messes, getting back to just a few story lines, and disposing of the faeries and wolves (thankfully).

    • GiGi says:

      I still really love the show – not despite the camp, but because of it. It’s for sure a guilty pleasure. And really, some of the acting is very good. I think Ryan Kwanten plays Jason Stackhouse perfectly and of course Lafayette is an amazing character. At this point it’s just Sookie that I can barely stand to watch, lol!

      But this finale was just bad. It seemed so poorly planned. Like they thought they had 3 more episodes to shoot and then were like, “Damn! We have to fit this all into one episode.” I personally would’ve been ok with more cliffhangers and fewer random plot conclusions.

  15. Holly says:

    This guy… ech.

    Someone should set him up with Veena Sud – two awful showrunners who waste hot Swedish talent because they’re so limited creatively, but want us to believe they’re avant-garde.

    I’m sure Alexander saw more good writing in his prop book than he has on TB anyway…

    • Kerfuffles says:

      I love Veena Sud’s work on The Killing and think she’s done a great job creating a fascinating character for Joel Kinnaman to play in Det. Holder.

  16. jen says:

    There have been a ton of rumors that Eric was supposed to really be dead, and then when the outrage happened over people quitting watching the show if he was, they begged Alex to come back next year. They had no idea how popular he was.

    muahahhahahahah.

    • Isabel says:

      I SO believe this.
      I mean; which show runner ruins his spoiler a day after it aired? A scared dude, because he found out tons of people were mad because of Eric.
      And the ‘no idea how popular Eric was’- yes, they have no idea what goes on in the fans’ world. ‘We need more Alcide’. COME ON. Have seen 2 fans say that, and about a million mentioning Eric.

      • Jane says:

        I don’t want to give away any spoilers on the books, but there is no way the writers and/or show runner on TB didn’t know how popular Eric is. Both on the show and with many, many readers. No way. He is not being honest about that IMO.

        If anyone here has read the books and read the reviews they know what I am talking about.

  17. Breen says:

    First I’d like to know who is telling Buckner fans want more Alcide???

    I did like this season, finale not included in that. Last season’s finale was awesome, this season was just a dud.

    I really wanted Bill to die with this whole Lillith stuff.

    I loved Eric’s arc this season, and I would love to see a ‘spinoff’ on Eric and Pam. This whole Sookie/Alcide thing is just YUCK. And I don’t really think I’ll be watching next season….Arlene in charge of Merlottes?? Or whatever they renamed it??? Just no.

    I was already at the point of watching on demand so I could fastforward through the bullsh*t stories that were just wasting time. I think now its just time to stop watching. I love Lala but they don’t give him much and I’m not gonna go thru a Sookie/Alcide/Beell triangle….they have no on screen chemistry and honestly, I don’t care. I want Eric and Pam.

    I think they should have kept Warlowe longer…really developed him somehow, not just killed him off. It was kinda disappointing.

  18. GMarchetti says:

    True Blood became a Smash train wreck situation since season 4.

    Although season 6 was way better than 5, the last 2 episodes were a disaster. When they killed Terry and pulled a Smash trick, by “dedicating” him a whole episode, it was a huge turn off.

    And the season finale… as usual, the whole season theme/story, was resolved in the first 30 minutes. Then, they wasted the other half with that ridiculous Bill interview (now he’s a bestselling writer), Sam (the mayor ??!!), and that ridiculous cliffhanger? Worst of them all!

    Screw that sh*t, I’ve been wasting my time for 3 years, just waiting to see how it would end. Now, I don’t care; I won’t waste a single minute more with this show.

    I can’t believe how Alan Ball let that happen, he did a perfect job with Six Feet Under, so I can’t imagine how things would get to this level. A Smash level.

    • Holly says:

      Maybe Alan Ball let it happen because it was no Six Feet Under? He must have realized that pretty quickly. If I handn’t seen SFU, I can’t say I would have gotten past 2 episodes of TB. And if there was no press on the subject, I would never imagine Alan could be involved with both projects at all – it seems like maybe the supernatural stuff is just not his thing – and the show had potential before they threw in maryann, the faes, the wolves, the shifters, the witches, the Native American black magic, Lilith, etc. etc. etc. It’s the kitchen sink and I’m shocked to say it sounds more like a Ryan Murphy show (and he would do it better)!

      • GMarchetti says:

        I agree with you, Holly.

        TB was a new territory and he didn’t have “experience” with the supernatural stuff, but still, season 1 was great. Season 2 was not better, but definitely, not terrible, and season 3 was a nice surprise, way better than season 2.

        But as you said, they stuffed so many things on it, the werewolves, faes, black magic (that Jesus storyline was horrific), witches, etc, etc. It’s impossible to keep up with so many story lines and characters, and the “30 secs of screen time for each character” formula was a terrible idea, and they keep pushing it.

        As Lafayette would say, “f*ck that shit, b*tch!”

      • Nerd Alert says:

        OH! Six Feet Under. Probably my favorite dramatic series ever. [I don’t have anything meaningful to add, sorry.]

  19. decemberist15 says:

    Umm did someone just ruin the end of True Blood with the title of this post???? Here’s a hint: if you post things that happen in the show in the headline, then YES. Oh yeah and FYI, no need to post a *spoiler alert* alert if you post the spoilers before the alert… THANKS

  20. mom2two says:

    I seriously dislike the character of Bill. I like Steven Moyer and I think he is so much better then this show (as is most of the cast). That being said, Bill is a writer/producer’s darling, there is no way he won’t be redeemed on the show and there is no way that he & Sookie aren’t end game on this show. I don’t like it, but the writing is pretty clear on the wall.
    6 seasons in, there has not been a meaningful Eric and Sookie romance-like there was for most of the books-other than when Eric had amnesia (on the show). I think show Eric cares for Sookie as a friend that’s it. Honestly, Eric’s OTP (show-verse) is Pam.
    Glad Skarsgard will be back on the show, for me, he is one of the people (next to Kristen Bauer Von Straten, Ryan Kwanten, & Nelson Ellis) who make the show worth watching.

    • Abby says:

      It’s hard not to dislike Bill when they’ve spent six seasons making him an a-hole. I like him better as a smarmy villain than a weepy, mopey, love sick whampire. You can’t take six years of character building and fix it in one season. That’s one suck I can’t swallow.

  21. my .02 says:

    Alcide bores me, the actor isn’t convincing at all and he and Sookie have zero chemistry. I’m sure the fact that they’re both mediocre actors at best doesn’t help.

    I like how he says “Eric has his own story going forward” – I didn’t *think* Eric would get killed, but that’s a relief. He’s my favorite.

    Also, I thought Tara’s mother did a very convincing job with her character’s change of heart. I know people want to see good and bad and people never change, but some people do – and I appreciate that. However, the poisoning thing did cross my mind, too. The look on her face when Tara was about to feed – I thought about that old line about “lie back and think of England”…ha.

  22. Nerd Alert says:

    I don’t understand why people expect this show to be Emmy-worthy or even without plot holes. I think the show is actually BETTER than the books, which are so poorly written it’s distracting.

    Anyway, I don’t watch it for it’s ART value, but I sure as hell don’t watch it for Sookie or Alcide, who are going to be the mains next season, along with Bill (who is EXACTLY an asshole). I watch for Eric and the other vamps and the humans. Why was there no Lafayette story this season? WTF?

    Also, I clicked over to the full interview but didn’t find the spoiler. I want to know what happens with Jason and that bitch Violet! All I saw was the blip about their “love” scene. I’m glad I was wrong about Lettie Mae, though. Tara is way better as a vampire.

  23. mata says:

    Did anyone see 30 Days of Night? That’s what those Hep V vampires reminded me of.

  24. Rhiannonkk says:

    How cool has sheriff Andy become…

  25. Amanda G says:

    I think you should speak for yourself about the Sookie/Eric romance. I wanted them together, but then the writers destroyed it when it happened. Plus, Sookie sucks! She’s not the reason I watch the show. I’d rather see a Pam/Eric romance. Eric is tons more interesting when he isn’t pining over Sookie.

  26. saintsfan2010 says:

    I have to agree with you that Mr. Buckner is totally out of touch with the fans of True Blood. It seems clear to me that after so many years of asking, the writing staff could give the fans what quite a few have been asking for– a real Eric and Sookie romance. He wasn’t himself in Season 4, and they emasculated him terribly.

    For TB Sookie to forgive Bill after every horrible thing he has done to her and others she cares about is simply ridiculous. At least in the books she recognized Bill for the jerk that he is. She smartened up. TB Sookie just jumps from man to man, and will likely end up going back to a man who used and abused her? Even if she does stay with Alcide, there is no chemistry between those characters except as friends.

    As for Tara, it is not absurd to think that Lettie Mae could have nefarious intentions. She has been a slimebag since the beginning of this series.

    I wonder if these interviews about the fate of Eric were planned prior to the finale, or if HBO felt the outrage and realized that some damage control needed to be done promptly? All I can say is, some wake up Mr. Buckner. He obviously lives in a different universe than the rest of us.

  27. Elle says:

    From what I understand, they were in contrat negotiations (Buckner himself admitted that) with Alex and Buckner came up with the brilliant idea of writing Eric suntanning on top of Swedish mountains and the “death” to wait for a resolution. EXCEPT I don’t think he realised HOW POPULAR Alex is with the fans. Because within two days the guy started doing interviews, sounding butthurt that he was criticised over the dumbass finale (by the way, I wouldn’t be surprised if they reached a settlement with Alex just yesterday. I think they thought they would have some leeway to negotiate with him but after Buckner and HBO got lambasted with criticism, they probably just caved in). The beginning of this season started off so great (when BUcker wasn’t the showrunner) with Sookie finally coming to her senses and realising she doesn’t need to run from man to man, the idea of Warlow still being a big bad… so many interesting ideas were starting to take fruit. Adn then they replaced Hudis with this buckner guy and everything went to hell. Warlow ended up being so lame (a 5,000 year old vampire who died so easily?), all of Sookie’s character development fell by the wayside and she becamse a STepform wife, several points unresolved (because vampire goddess Lillith’s prophecy was to save a handful of vampires from burning?) – none of it made sense and that’s all on Buckner. And he seems perplexed at why people are upset. Man, I hope they bring in a new showrunner because this idiot just does not get it.

      This +1000000
      I think the intention was to let Askars go. But then the shitstorm started; GO FANS!
      Killing Eric is like killing Daryl on the Walking Dead: people will riot and stop watching.

      • Kitty says:

        Alex and his Attorney knew exactly what they were doing. Alex took off to Europe, didn’t do any press for TB other than the premiere and waited for the shit storm to happen. He knew about the final book disaster, an interviewer told him all about it and he himself was surprised about the ending. They just had to sit back and wait and HBO would end up paying huge bucks to get him back. This season he got $275,000 per episode.

  28. Marianne says:

    I only like Sookie with Eric. I detest Bill and don’t give much of a crap about Alcide one way or another. Don’t hate him, don’t love him. He’s just “there” for me. So next season, sounds like its gonna be super great…not.

    I love Eric, Jessica, Jason and Lafayette the most. Thats who I want to see more on my screen.

  29. RHONYC says:

    new showrunner, Brian Buckner, who took over from Alan Ball

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    is THAT wtf happened???!!!
    put it in the closet and hang. it. up.
    this show has WWWWAAAAYYY jumped the shark.
    awful, AWFUL season! next season should be the series finale.
    it has redefined the word W-A-C-K. 😡
  30. Bridget says:
    Celebitchy, did you have to get so specific in your headline? It’s only been 3 days and I havent had a chance to watch yet, and while it’s one thing to click on am article link that says SPOILERS, putting it in the form of a question in the headline doesnt count as not giving atuff away. I already know to avoid Vulture and EW before I watch stuff, but you’re a gossip site. That was a total dick move.
  31. JM says:
    If Bucky feels going into season 7, they “have to change,” how about making Bill finally have to tak responsibility for his crimes? I don’t want to see Bill forgiven. That ship sailed in season 3’s finale and I certfalsee pretenses, allowed her to be beaten
  32. JM says:
    Stupid smart phone. Anywho, tired of waiting for Eric & Sookie to get back together. Frankly, I can’t stand Sookie anymore thanks to the horrible writing. Eric is to good for her. I’m done with the show & HBO. I’ll get my Eric fix from free YouTube clips.
  33. aryastark says:
    I’ve only seen bits of Season 6, as last year was so bad I couldn’t get excited about this year, but from what I have seen the show has improved, though it will never be Game of Thrones. I am beyond sick and tired of shrieking fangirls moaning over who Sookie is with and which vampire gets the most attention. It is a pathetic feature of the books (death threats against Charlaine Harris for the last book, anyone?) and its even more pathetic with the show. It is usually bored middle aged women who are culprits. This piece is a classic example. Get a grip. I adore Eric, but it’s not the Eric Show FFS.
    • Abby says:
      Unless the bored middle aged house fraus are shrieking and moaning directly in your ear, you could solve your problem and save your misery by simply not reading the comments.
      I do agree with you on Game of Thrones. THAT’S how you adapt a book series into a TV show and manage a large cast.
  34. YvetteW says:
    The problem with TB really starts and ends with Sookie’s @ss. She was afraid of Warlow. Then she walked outside and brought home the first man she met on her way to work who just happened to be Warlow. He said I killed your parents. She uttered I knew it and hid him in the fairy forest w/o realizing the fairy forest was empty because he killed everybody. She checked with her boss to see if he was still on standby and was put on hold. She said Oh well I’ll marry Warlow (maybe the crotch glowing sex made her confused). Bf #2 hurt Warlow and she gnawed at her own arm to feed him. So, she went to a funeral (Warlow trusting that his fiance could attend this type of event without gaining another suitor – STUPID), returned and said No Warlow maybe we should date. He reacted badly so her brother, grandfather and bf#1 had to kill him. This could really happen. Ana Pacquin pretended to have a light ball all season & then when she needed it, the battery went dead. This could really happen. I want to tie Buckner to a maypole in the fairy forest and leave him there. This, too, could really happen.
  35. Jane says:
    Celebitchy, all I will say about the last two books is the TV show doesn’t follow the books, as you know if you have read up until the last two books and followed the TV series. I am not saying this is good for either the reader or TV fan.
  36. Irishae says:
    To quote the great Pam:
    “I’m so over Sookie and her precious fairy vagina!”
    I haven’t read any of the books and I’m just curious if they all read like The Bachelorette. Humans, vampires, werewolves, fairies…vampire-fairies. The “Sookie gets into trouble then falls in love with whoever saves her” plotlines are incredibly boring. The Alcide bit drove me crazy.
    Other observations: they need to give Jessica and Lafayette storylines, Sam + hipser girl are just…no words, Bill is very unappealing, and ugh I could go on. Each season I hope there may be improvement, but it just gets consistently worse. Rant over.
  37. mrsmc says:
    Worse Season ever.
  38. Ashling says:
    I was pretty shocked at how much Buckner gave away. Clearly damage control. However, as an Eric fan, he had some great scenes this season. Alex showed such a range. The season ended horribly, but I thought the Viking made out well all the way up to episode 9.
