Did Monica Bellucci & Vincent Cassel separate after 14 years of marriage?

Monica Bellucci Vincent Cassell

I’m not sure how true this story is. The source, a Brazilian newspaper called Jornal O Globo, has run with an insider tip which claims Italian actress Monica Bellucci and French actor Vincent Cassell have separated after 14 years of marriage. The couple have two children together and may have an open marriage. Or at least, the marriage is open on Vincent’s end, and Monica went along with it because she thought it was “ridiculous” to expect her husband not to sleep with other women when they apart for months at a time.

If this story is true, then maybe Monica and Vincent’s arrangement has run its course. Maybe Monica got tired of keeping up the pretenses of a marriage while Vincent was sleeping with other chicks. Here’s the scoop from what I think is the celebrity offshoot of the newspaper, Ego Globo. They include the detail that Monica fled the couple’s mansion in Rio and returned to France without Vincent. Uh-oh:

Monica Bellucci Vincent Cassell

Actors Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci parted, reports the newspaper “O Globo”. Italian actress left the mansion in Alto Gavea in Rio’s South Zone, and returned to France with her daughters Deva and Laonie.

According to the newspaper, before leaving, Monica dismissed most employees of the house, who is the lawyer Jorge Hilario Gouvea Vieira. Cassel still living in Rio and has frequented the bars of Baixo Gavea.

Cassel and Bellucci moved to Rio at the end of last year and adopted the carioca lifestyle. The couple enjoyed the carnival the city this year and was seen several times walking the streets in stripped-down style. They were married for 14 years.

[From Ego-Globo]

So what are we to make of this report? Perhaps Monica tired of having her husband bed randoms while she took care of their children, or perhaps Vincent fell down on one of her stated criteria for marriage, “loyalty” and/or “elegance.” Or maybe Vincent decided he wanted to be with one of his side pieces, who obviously would be a lot less stressful to deal with and wouldn’t exist with all the complications of a “nagging” wife. God, I hate it when dudes think that their side pieces will be better life companions than their wives. It never turns out that way when the new ones inevitably expect them to take out the trash too. The horror!

Anyway, I hope this story isn’t true — mostly because I’d hate to see a family break up, but if it is true, then Vincent is a damn fool.

He is a damn fool. And he can call me any time.

  2. Lola says:

Maybe… She just went back to France. Stranger things have happened.

  3. Oops says:

If it’s true, I’m not surprised. I read an intervieaw she did a few years ago, she said that they didn’t see each other for months and that her daughter (she had only one child at this time) was always with her…

    • RocketMerry says:

Funny, just yesterday I was thinking about her and her weird and kind of sad marriage to this fool, wondering how she could stand it.

Anyway, I always thought she could do much better than him.
Maybe now she can go ahead and find an awesome husband. And get back home to Italy; it has gotten to the point were people kind of make a point of french-nizing her name for fun (Monicà Belluccì… I cringe every time I hear it).

Get back home, Monica. We love you!

  4. She’s so beautiful. I loved her as a model for Dior.

  5. Nan St. George says:

LOL @ darkladi. Priceless comment. And I agree with you 100%.

  6. Zimmer says:

Sorry, but if having one of the hottest women in the world in your bed is not enough and you’ve got to screw around, maybe you shouldn’t get married. Not sure what people see in him cause I’m missing it.

    • Robi says:

      Well said!

    • Ballroll says:

While she might be beautiful, but looks aren’t everything. Do you know how she is as a person? She might be (not saying she is, just giving an example) a nightmare to live with in real life. Happens.

      • Zimmer says:

Looks aren’t everything, indeed, but if he’s screwing others right and left, I’d hardly say personality’s his top priority.

      • lucy says:

@Zimmer, perhaps you missed the part where it says they have an open marriage. They both “sleep around”, her and him. I know someone who has met them several occasions in social gatherings and has said allegedly that they both swing, so it’s not a matter of “sleeping around” only on his end.

      • Zimmer says:

@Lucy. I did not miss that part, rather Bedhead focused more on the likelihood that the marriage was “open” to allow for his infidelities and I chose to look at it from that angle.

    • Londerland says:

Meh, there’s that saying, “Show me the world’s most beautiful woman and I’ll show you a man who’s tired of sleeping with her”. For some people (male or female) the thrill is about novelty, or the chase, or the lack of commitment.

And if you’re a famous actor and surrounded by hot young models and actresses all the time, all throwing themselves at your well-respected talented thespian ass despite the fact that you look like a cod, it’s going to be hard to resist temptation, whether there’s a goddess waiting for you at home or not.

      • Dee says:

Sometimes the ones likes who look like a cod are worse especially when they get famous. Guys who dont look good didnt have the same success with women when they werent famous and when they get famous the world opens up to them and they cant resist it whereas a handsome man would have been successful with women all the time. That said Cassel looks like a cod but be is a talented and charismatic actor and theirein lies his appeal. But even so if he was the everyman or even less successfull as an actor would he have women throwing themselves at him? Not so much.

    • Amory says:

He’s got swagger. That man just oozes sex appeal. I’m sure he’s not for everyone, but I love him on film — he looks like he would know what to do!!

    • Dawn says:

I think that looks are what attracts two people but after you’ve been together for a time it is the first thing to fade and personality and friendship take over. I don’t know these two personally and never have read any gossip about them before today so I don’t know what all took place in 14 years so I simply won’t comment on anything more! They are both are extremely attractive however!

  7. Jessica says:

That story is putting 2 and 2 together and getting 10067. She went back to their place in France with the kids, perhaps for work, perhaps because that’s just her routine, and he’s still hanging out at their other house in Rio. Maybe if they’d been living like this for months it would be a story (though they’re actors, they spent time apart, and their relationship has never been conventional), but as it is it just seems like could be entirely based on Monica ending her summer vacation a few days before Vincent.

If they have broken up, I don’t think it’s fair to assume it has anything to do with their open marriage. They made that work for over 14 years, it’s far more likely the usual stuff broke them up (if they are in fact broken up).

  8. Eleonor says:

    I think I might go to Paris…

  9. bns says:

    He is so hot.

  10. Ballroll says:

From what I have heard they were both quite okay with sleeping around. She had her side pieces and so did he. So she is not some poor suffering wife sitting at home with the kids waiting for her husband who is busy bedding women all over town as some are making it out to be.

Maybe the marriage just run its course as you mentioned. I find it interesting that a lot of times when a long marriage comes to an end people automatically assume it’s the man’s wrong doing. Perhaps it’s mutual.

  11. lady mary. says:

how can anyone leave Monica ?,she is perfection ,that damned Cassel is indeed a fool, she can start somewhere else new ,with someone who appreciates and loves her for who she is!

  12. Bex says:

I know he seems like such a dog but I still like him. Even with their unconventional relationship I adore them together. I hope it isn’t true (unless she’s actually miserable, in which case, run, Monica, run).

  13. epiphany says:

‘She thought it was “ridiculous” to expect her husband not to sleep with other women when they are apart for months at a time’ – maybe its ridiculous to expect your marriage to work when you and husband are separated for months at a time. Sounds like these two have their priorities mixed up. A LITTLE absence makes the heart grow fonder; a lot of absence makes the heart forget.

    • divorcee says:

You got that right my friend.

If I may open up a little here anonymous et all. I am very “european” and just separated fromn 10 years relationship with my MUCH younger (14 years) husband. We had KIND OF an open relationship in that I didn’t expect him to be 100% faithful since he travelled a lot and in the end we lived in separate cities. To it wasn’t that big a deal if he would fool around with some young chick when we were apart if it was ONE time only like a one night stand. But he didn’t keep it at that. As time went by and we lived most of the time in separate cities always travelling travelling travelling the two of us. Inevitably he started to get a connection with another woman who lived in the same city..and here we are..divorce. A little makes the heart grow fonder to much and we forget.

. I understand that this type of lifestyle can be hard to understand if you are a conventional person but honestly here in western Europe in the capitol cities it isn’t that rare.
If anyone has questions on the matter feel free..

  14. paola says:

The major italian newspaper (online edition), Corriere della Sera, has just stated that their marriage is over and that it has been confirmed by the agency/p.r. of the actress. Monica Bellucci is actually filming a movie of Emil Kusturica in Serbia.

  15. blue marie says:

ahh, booo.. they are such an attractive couple.

  16. dorothy says:

Love these two. Hope this isn’t true.

  17. Ann says:

I’m not seeing his “hotness”. I think he’s rather ugly and she could do much better.

  18. Hannah says:

Oh I hope this isn’t true. They both always speak so fondly of each other. I always felt like her quotes re fidelity were Americanised and taken out of context.

  19. Elodie says:

About effin’ time! Believe me or not, had dinner with them at a common friend of ours back in Paris last year and he was *utterly* rude to her, talker to her such as “no one asked your opinion!” and other *sigh* of exasperation and she went to the toilet to “refresh” herself and when she came back and her eyes were red i.e. she cried. Couldn’t help but ask her later if she was ok and she gave me a gorgeous smile and an answer. Never ever liked Vincent Cassel from that moment, only look at the actor’s work from now on… so yeah I may have not known what exactly went down between them in private and all, but in my little opinion she deserves better!

    • Really? says:

Merci Elodie for your insider’s view…i believe it totally…everyone’s impressed by his “swagger,” but in many cases, that’s just code for piggish machismo, which pretty much sounds like what he was serving at the dinner table…Nina Simone was quoted saying “you have to know how to get up from the table if love is no longer being served,” and i’m sure this is what Monica is doing…she is a goddess and she will find a much nicer and much better looking guy who will treat her like the queen she is.

      • Cazzee says:

“You have to know how to get up from the table if love is no longer being served…”

Wow, what a great line. So much truth there.

    • lucy says:

smh, shame. He does come off as a bit aggressive in interviews sometimes. Like the type who can be utterly rude and cold when the cameras aren’t rolling. Ah well, they are both gorgeous, rich and famous, they will probably find someone to keep them company.

    • Madpoe says:

WoW! Thanks for sharing that insight elodie – I do get that douchey hubby vibe from him.

      • lady mary. says:

wow, thanks elodie, nvr liked cassell much ,this frm a man who said “if the world were to end the last thing he would do is make love to his wife” ,so much for love ,i hope Monica moves on and lives a happy and healthy life ,she deserves it ,as huge fan i would love to see her in more more movies

    • Nanea says:

One of her cousins is a colleague of my husband and me, and he was actually surprised years ago when they had Léonie instead of finally going their separate ways. We’ve met both at the Berlin International Film Festival through R., never together though, which struck me as odd back then.

    • MaiGirl says:

I believe it. He has a great body and natural sex appeal, but he just oozes “asshole” to me. I would be really afraid that he’d hit it right, but would leave me with crotch crickets. I bet he’s the kind that hates using condoms!

  20. Crumpets & Crotchshots says:

People *do* have open marriages by consent and by preference, and polyamorous partnerships can also end for reasons that have nothing to do with these consensual arrangements. take a look at Tilda Swinton who is still good friends with her ex even after marrying her “side piece.”

Assuming they are in fact breaking up and not just going about their busy lives, I would caution against concluding that he is a sleaze and a cheat.

    • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I personally view open relationships as, “you stay right here and I’ll play the field and see if something better comes along.” I find it insulting on every level.

  21. Mandy says:

NOOOOO!!! Please don’t be true, they are such a hot couple!
Also, I REALY want that alligator necklace. That is BAD ASS.

  22. Zombie Shortcake says:

They don’t look happy in any of those pics.

  23. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

On one hand, I don’t want this to be true, because they look good together.

But on the other, if he isn’t an asshole, as a poster on the upthread posted, I will run and climb that like a tree.

Good Lord, that man is shamelessly dirty, and me like it.

  24. Helvetica says:

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I really like these two together.
    Dammit. Make it work!

What is “carioca style” of living?

  25. SamiHami says:

Just don’t see the supposed sex appeal that this guy “oozes.” He strikes me as fairly unattractive, personally. Maybe if I saw a few of his movies my opinion would change. The only thing I’ve seen him in is Black Swan (that was him, right?) and that did nothing to make him seem hot in any way.

  26. Susei says:

She´s so sexy and beautiful. My girl crush for 10+ years… oh Monica 🙂

  27. Adrien says:

Vincent is only attractive with Monica around. Without her, he’s just a French Chris Martin.

  28. Ginger says:

! I hope this isn’t true! I can’t think of a sexier couple than these two! but if it is…call me Monica!

  29. ShakenNotStirred says:

It doesn’t matter how beautiful she he is. He just wanted to have his cake and then some. A hole is a hole is a hole.

  30. patata says:

  31. MollyB says:

OMG I want that alligator necklace so bad. ETA: Vintage Cartier. Bummer. 🙁

  32. Blanca says:

I hope is not true 🙁

I thought the news of a break up will be the ones for Zeta-Jones not this couple.

  33. Lark says:

Monica is so beautiful even after all these years. Hope this isn’t true.

  34. Jennifer says:

Daily Mail is reporting that it is true. So much for growing old together.

  35. d says:

Sex with him? Yes. Marry him? Nooooooooo.

  36. EscapedConvent says:

On a shallow note, if Monica Bellucci has to worry about a man looking for “side pieces,” I don’t know what we ordinary mortal women can expect.

Look at that second photo, with Monica in the upswept hairdo! She looks like a Roman goddess.

  37. sean says:

Dibs on Monica. I called it first

  38. vixo says:

Sadly, this is true, apparently her rep confirmed it (source O Globo again)

    http://oglobo.globo.com/cultura/monica-bellucci-vincent-cassel-se-separam-apos-14-anos-casados-9700479

  39. Dahlia1947 says:

Kind of sad, but if they had been working at it for awhile and they’re not happy, then each of you should just go on your merry way.

  40. Claudia says:

    It’s been confirmed.

He should have fought harder for her. He wont ever find another woman like that, especially one who would allow the liberties he had. They oozed sex, they truly were the sexiest couple. Too bad.

  41. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I agree with you Bedhead- he’s a damn fool!

I hope she finds some rich, gorgeous, FAITHFUL billionaire to live happily ever after with.

  42. OpenMinded says:

Oh my God. You all assume it’s Vincent’s fault. None of you (even those who claim to have the inside track) know these people. Monica might be a nightmare to live with. Newsflash – beauty and personality don’t always go hand in hand. Stop speculating and stick to the facts. Also, for all of you who made sexual references about Vince, that’s totally classless. If Monica is the ‘goddess’ you claim she is, Vince probably isn’t into the kind of girls who talk the kind of filth I’ve been reading on here. Have some respect for yourselves and this couple you know nothing about.

  43. Karen says:

There’s just something about that man. I totally understand why Monica grabbed him when she had the chance and vice versa, she’s absolutely stunning herself. But as I said, Vincent has got that special something. Call me Cassel 😉

  44. Anna says:

What is it about him that women swoon over?

  45. IamAcylon says:

used to like them both until i found out that they support Polanski.
thinking that they have children own their own.
Of course the get a pass from the crowd because their hot.
