Jessica Simpson forgot about that whole ‘$4 million Weight Watchers contract’ thing

You’ll have to excuse me, I completely forgot this angle when I was writing about Jessica Simpson yesterday. We had additional quotes from Jessica’s Us Weekly exclusive (where she debuted baby Ace Knute for the pocket change of $100K), where she discussed how difficult it was to keep off the weight when she’s been pregnant for the better part of two and a half years. But I forgot that Jessica actually got $4 million from Weight Watchers. Did you forget that too? Yeah. She signed up with Weight Watchers when she was pregnant with Maxwell. Remember those halcyon days, where she thought she was going to lose 70 pounds of pregnancy weight as soon as she gave birth (she claimed she had a lot of amniotic fluid)? Well, Jessica did try to get into shape after she gave birth to Maxwell, but then she sort of gave up after a month and she got Eric to impregnate her again just so she could drop the diet. It worked! And now, two years later, Weight Watchers is all, “So you remember our contract? Yeah.”

Jessica Simpson is desperate to lose her postbaby weight, not least because she stands to lose millions! During Jessica’s first pregnancy, with her daughter Maxwell, she signed a staggering $4 million deal with Weight Watchers – but the contract was put on hold when the designer got pregnant with son Ace, who was born in June.

The weight-loss company publicly congratulated Jessica on her second pregnancy, but an insider says that the execs weren’t thriller.

“Weight Watchers retained Jessica as a spokesmodel – but with an escape clause,” the source says. The company is determined to start airing the new ads, featuring a swiftly slender Jess, as soon as possible.

“Jessica is having a hard time sticking to the program, so the contract could be in jeopardy,” the source says.

Those poor bastards at Weight Watchers. Somebody should send them a muffin basket. God, the memories just came flooding back to me. I hope somebody lost their job over the Jessica Simpson Debacle. WW is out $4 million because Farty McSluttyBrownies got pregnant again because she hated her diet. And now they’re trying to act all tough and litigious, like, “You know you have to lose the weight, right? We’ll sue you if you don’t do the commercials.” And Jessica still doesn’t care, I bet. WW just doesn’t understand that if they try to threaten her or pressure her in any way, her defense mechanism will be to merely get pregnant again. That’ll learn ‘em, Farty.

I saw pictures of her from yesterday and she looked pretty good. And I thought to myself “are people still saying this woman is huge because she isn’t. Even for a woman who hadn’t just given birth two months ago”. But yup people are still criticizing her weight. Ugh.

    • NM9005 says:

If she wouldn’t have talked so much about her bad eating habits during her first pregnancy and then signed on to WW and promote healthy eating all of a sudden, fewer people would have noticed her weight because as a celebrity, she’s not all that anymore. Motherhood is the only thing that is selling for her. That and her beauty in combination with her stupidity which makes her ‘hot’ apparently.

When weight and your body are your main talking points, you get people to notice it (even more). Simpson always looks quite good, she is a beautiful lady but all these celebs who are on some kind of diet for money and who promote it extensively, are ridiculously hypocrite when people notice their body/weight and react bad. Simpson even said ‘it’s not about the numbers’ when before, she said she wanted to lose x amount of weight in only a few months. I mean, tough shit for her then if she fails. It is about the numbers when you sign a deal with a weight loss company, it’s about how much weight she loses. Pretty straigtforward if you ask me. She’s still rich I mean, how hard can it be?!

It seems like she was only motivated to get her weight down if she gets money for it. She couldn’t even do that properly so it’s her own fault she’s in this situation where people analyse her body. She could’ve enjoyed her millions, stay out of the spotlight during and after her pregnancies and enjoyed her babies. But no, she decided to pimp her body, motherhood and her babies. And for what? 4 million? Small change for a woman who is loaded but then again, she shows how dumb, shallow and greedy she is. Everything for a buck and it backfired. Yes, poor Jessica =/

      • Leah says:

My problem is that people are still insinuating she’s huge by saying she is failing at this diet. If you go look at the pictures from yesterday she is clearly not huge or failing at losing the weight. THAT is my issue here.

Also people were talking about how ‘fat’ she was looong before she became a spokesperson for weight watchers. Lets not pretend that’s the reason.

      • marina says:

        Couldn’t agree more!

      • NM9005 says:

Like I wrote, she could’ve easily not promoted her pregnancy and took the heat of her weight. She is perfectly capable of not being seen for extended periods of time and she doesn’t need the money or publicity.

I know she struggles with her weight because she’s petite and she loves (bad) food. I know people have commented on her body before. That’s why it’s even more baffling to me that she would make a business deal regarding her body/weight when the public is already quite harsh towards women’s bodies.

She turned her body and motherhood into a commodity by her own free will. She could’ve marketed herself differently but she continued the same ‘I’m just like you, I love food’ and used the ‘i’m not a supermodel’ excuse to justify her being paid to LOSE weight. She didn’t have to do any of that. She could’ve done what she wanted as a rich free woman but she SOLD her body/weight to the public. You can’t complain anymore then.

Before, she just lost and gained weight as she pleased and got negative comments. I can defend that, I do not agree with that either, believe me. But the minute she accepted money for it, there’s no crying about it anymore. You actively take part in it by allowing the public into your body/weight issues.

      • Jenny says:

@NM9005, the thing about WeightWatchers is it is not supposed to be a quick fix, lose 60 lbs in month kind of plan (as many celeb mom’s do, I guess by eating under 1,000 calories a day and working out like mad). I think for the most part you would be looking at eating fairly normally and healthily and lose up to 2 lbs a week. Technically a breast feeding mother should NOT be losing more than 2 lbs a week ever (Admittedly, I do not know whether or not JS is breast feeding). At that rate she would have only lost around 15 lbs so far. I don’t really see the problem. Jennifer Hudson I think took 2 or 3 years to complete her weight loss transformation.

      • NM9005 says:

I know. It’s a way more sensible lifestyle, not a diet.

Fact is, Simpson wasn’t interested in it when she didn’t have a contract or wasn’t getting paid. The pressure came from herself. Therefore, I feel no pity.

She painted an unrealistic picture herself and when it doesn’t work out she tries to pretend she’s like us. We all know it’s hard to lose weight, the difference with her and other celebs is that they are working out like crazy to fit into size 0 after a month (without a WW deal). She intended to be just like them, just for the money. She didn’t have to do that. Then she fails at it or it’s too hard and she’s ‘just like us’. Ummmm…

Normal people who are on WW are not getting paid. Normal people on WW made the decision for themselves, to live a healthier life instead of following fad diets. She isn’t an accurate representation for the clientele of WW because of her greediness and laziness. And WW was stupid to expect Simpson to make a drastic change when she was only in it for the money. Hudson is way better because she sees it as an investment for her life, not to fatten her bank account and get some PR (although I’m sure it played a part, she’s a celeb after all).

      • Kitten Mittens says:

        Nm9005
Totally agree. She brought this specific kind of attention on herself. She’s not out there at all. She’s filthy rich and aside from the Christmas Macy’s commercial cameo we never see her.
Because of WW she’s been in our faces again specifically so we can focus on her waistline. She made her bed. I’m not criticizing her weight, but i’m not faulting others for it.

  2. CaribbeanLaura says:

LOL…..Well if that’s the reason she got pregnant again I see a sort of 18 kids and counting thing in her future.

“who’s that calling? Weight watchers? Ok whip it out lets go for number 13!!”

    lol

  3. brin says:

    Farty had a brain fart.

  4. Simply Red says:

She can either honor it or lose the money.

    She signed the contract

  5. LadyMTL says:

Hahahahaha I like the idea of sending a muffin basket to Weight Watchers (will they be WW muffins?) But yeah, they really did shoot themselves in the foot with that contract.

  6. Amory says:

Celeb endorsements of weight loss products are a complete joke. What moron thinks that these celebs are actually following the system, and not using trainers, lipo, plastic surgery, personal chefs, nutritionists, and gobs of spanx??

Show me a woman with a real life, a real job, and a few kids, and I might be interested.

    • Kiddo says:

I don’t understand why they would want to demonstrate rapid weight loss anyway. Isn’t that contrary to their “take it slow and healthy” mantra?

  7. Feebee says:

Surely WW didn’t give her $4 million up front? If they are stupid enough to do that then they’ll have to whistle for it and wait until Jessica decides to do it.

They won’t be able to take her to court for a long while given the subject matter. I think JS will eventually get it together anyway.

    • emmie_a says:

I don’t think they gave her the $4 million up front because the article mentions an escape clause.

  8. Lucy2 says:

I don’t get why she did this- she has a ton of money and had to have known it’d be hard to lose it like they wanted, why have a contract and all that added pressure?

    • metallicwow says:

Greed. And she probably thought it would be a good incentive to actually lose. Then reality hit.

    • Jessica says:

It’s very simple, Jessica will not do anything unless money is attached.

I hope she gets married to her freeloader loser boyfriend and does not sign a prenup because “they are so in love” and he takes her to the cleaners.

Nick is WAY better off without her.

  9. shitler says:

Isn’t she worth billions though? I’m always hearing stories of her being a smart business woman & her company worth billions.$ 4 million should b chomp change to her

    • emmie_a says:

I don’t know about billions but her fashion lines are where she has made serious cash. I’m surprised she even signed this deal, although I guess you’d have to be crazy to turn down $4 million for losing weight, which she probably wanted to do anyways.

    • Sam says:

She isn’t that smart. All that money she made from the fashion line? From what I’ve heard, almost all of it comes from licensing – meaning that she basically sells the compancy the right to use her name, likeness and image with the products. She doesn’t make any day-to-day managerial decisions or actually run the business. The line has been extremely successful, but not because of any particular decisions she has made – it’s because of the people actually designing for and running the brand.

      • emmie_a says:

Not smart?? — I’d call her a genius for making as much money as she has from licensing her name. She has to do zero work but gets incredibly wealthy. Genius.

      • Sam says:

emmie, that’s not Jessica’s smarts – that’s her lawyer’s and manager’s smarts. Celebrities often don’t have control over their own licensing – oftentimes, they actually contract that right away to management firms and law offices.

Thought it’s nice to know that you’re a “path of least resistance” type of girl. There are some of us here who actually value hard work and, ya know, actual intelligence over being able to sell your own image. Personally, I’m still gonna teach my kids that they should aspire to make money through intelligence. You can have the rest.

      • emmie_a says:

        And I’ll take it. Thanks!!!

Lighten up. I know how business works and I know what Jessica is doing.

      • nicegirl says:

        wow, Sam

    • Jessica says:

She’s not worth billions, only the company which is run by Vincent Camuto (sp) is worth billions.

  10. Anon says:

Isn’t it interesting that Hudson had about 18 months to lose her weight and others and for some reason we all expect Jessica to lose hers in 6 months which isn’t even close to being realistic. But then we hold Jessica to some standard that no human can follow. I suggest to you what pees people off is the amount she has been paid, isn’t that what buisness is.. Did anyone actually read what was said in us weekly? There are many celebrities that gained as much or more the. Jessica and don’t get bullied like Jessica . It’s all about the money. I personally thought it was one of her better interviews she has given in a long time and here we are talking aout weight Jessica weight again. WW. Is not going anywhere soon. WW is all about wha Jessica is and struggles and keeping it real in the real world nit Hollywood world. Makes it more human

    • NM9005 says:

Simpson signed a contract. If she thought it was unrealistic she could’ve turned down the offer. It’s really simple but I guess, being greedy and shallow as she is, she thought she could do what every other celeb can do. But lazy as she is, she didn’t realise she can’t work out 6 hours a day like Kate Hudson who has an actual career and more pressure. Nobody expected her to lose so much weight, she expected it when she signed the contract and made it public so then the public expected it too and followed her on her ‘journey’.

Jennifer Hudson is a totally different story. She actually started her weight loss years before she got famous and through her fame, her weight fluctuated because of various reasons (film role, family tragedy, motherhood) but she was never lazy or indifferent about healthy eating. http://caloriecount.about.com/jennifer-hudsons-weight-loss-no-overnight-b490897

Simpson signed her contract AFTER she discussed her bad eating habits while pregnant and then went on talking about being healthy as a mother when her baby was born. SMDH. Just like all the other stars she has enough money to buy personal trainers, diet plan + meal etc. she just doesn’t have the willpower to lose that weight so fast. Which is FINE by normal standards but she signed a contract saying she could and when she can’t she compares herself to those other stars who gained a lot too and complains. Saying how she isn’t a supermodel. Tough shit, if she knew herself, she wouldn’t have signed the contract. So many normal people do it through sheer willpower with little resources and she can’t even do it for 4 million even though she thought she could. Being human, meaning being ‘just like us’, is knowing yourself and taking responsibility when your mistake blows up in your face. Being just like us is focusing on your health because you want to feel good and not because you get paid millions.

  11. pam246 says:

I can’t believe that people are claiming that Jessica got pregnant so that she doesn’t have to do the diet. As flaky as she is that’s a ridiculous claim.

  12. Katie says:

It’s not her fault they signed a contract with someone who can’t read. The only person dumber than Jessica Simpson is the person who signs a contract with her.

  13. ycnan says:

Ok, that’s probably a joke but I’m sure she didn’t have a BABY cause she didn’t want to diet. So stupid. It was just a happy side effect of having another baby.

  14. Hautie says:

Honestly, if I was Jessica, I would write WW a check if need be. If they even gave her that much cash up front.

    Which I seriously doubt.

I suspect she was on a schedule for that cash. Had goals to meet in order to get another check.

She doesn’t meet one of those goals. No check.

And something tells me. She does not care about their money.

But WW cares. And wants her bright shining face on their product. But that can’t happen if she refuses to play along. And they can’t force her.

  15. *asterix* says:

I don’t actually see the problem with WW being annoyed with her. Yes, it is her right to get pregnant. No, I really doubt that she got preggers to avoid a weight loss. Yes, it is understandable that she is trouble losing the baby weight. But, it is equally true that she signed a contract for 4 freaking million. And it seems that she is not losing the baby weight because she is ‘having trouble’ sticking to the program? You can’t ‘have trouble’ with 4 million dollars, nutritionists, and personal trainers. She has every damn ball in her court, she does not get to play the ‘poor me, they are telling me to lose weight so that I can honor the contract that held me to that weight’ card. She’s not a martyr if she is eventually called to deliver her end of the deal.

It’s simply condescending to argue that a woman should not be held to the terms of a contract that she, herself signed. 4 million dollars is a lot of money, and WW should eventually get a spokesmodel for that money. It isn’t unreasonable that they at least get that money back so that they can apply it to a woman who will actually comply.

  16. Mia 4S says:

She’s worth millions and pimped photos of her child for $100,000? Apparently not a cent of it to a charity at least? This woman is deeply disgusting and anyone who gives her a cent or supports the products she endorses should have their head examined.

    • Sunlily says:

Oh, but haven’t you heard? She’s harmless! *rolling my eyes*

    • Jessica says:

Yes, Jessica is very shallow, In 2009 she went over to africa where they have multiple desieses (sp) and she tweeted “WTF? Do I really have to live like this”.

Here is the story Celebichy did:

      http://www.celebitchy.com/72216/jessica_simpson_on_sleeping_with_fly_nets_in_africa_wtf/

Jessica truly is a shallow, vain human being who has no sympathy for others.

I’m extremely glad Nick is no longer with her, She can just get married to her loser boyfriend who has no job.

Jessica Simpson is repulsive on so many levels but what she did in Africa takes the cake.

  17. Ari says:

isnt she a billionaire? she should just pay them the 4mill back and just be the happy mom she totally looks like

  18. lori says:

Given that she wants to get married relatively soon, before she can get accidently pregnant again, she’ll probably go back to WW to loose the weight for the wedding.

  19. Bodhi says:

I’m going to echo a previous poster: Do people REALLY think she got pregnant again to get out of her contract? REALLY? That’s just crazy. If she didn’t want to fulfill the contract, she could have come to an agreement with WW. She has a ton of money & a phalanx of attorneys. It might cost her a bit, but its not like she can’t afford it.

She probably got pregnant again the same way loads of women do, because sex is fun & condoms are annoying

  20. Shannon says:

How can someone forget 4 million dollars?? Must be nice to not give a $hit about money.

  21. vketjo says:

“Any of you ever think that as rich as she is she can pay them back the 4 million dollars and not put a dent in her millions and that is the reason she just doesn’t care….as a matter of fact she looks really really good considering she has had two baby’s in two and half years…..I did a Loretta Lynn and had 4 kids in 5 1/2 yrs before I “figured out what I was doing wrong” and put a stop to it….LOL…
s Leave the woman alone …she’s a young mother of two and beautiful and not a skinny twig let somebody else spent the next 2 yrs lying about their weight lose on Weight Watchers….while secretly having lipo suctions and tucks….you know who I mean….

  22. anon says:

Do you seriously think she only got one hundred thousand for her baby pics. Lol. Give your head a shake. Lol.

  23. Meg says:

I don’t know what you’re talking about, that halloween photo of jess with her fiance and and max she looked great. clearly she’d lost the weight. she didn’t give up.
