Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ‘got destroyed’ by reading everything on the internet

This is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Elle UK cover for October. It’s terrible, right? I’ll admit that Rosie is far from my favorite model, but I really don’t think Elle did her any favors with this drag queen wig and drag queen styling. She’s much prettier than this. The whole thing is very drag-tastic, right? The turtleneck even covers her would-be Adam’s apple. I wonder why she agreed to this? Maybe she didn’t realize how the wig would drastically change her look. As for the Elle UK interview, Rosie does have some interesting stuff to say:

On her relationship with Jason Statham: ‘Many models are in long-term relationships for stability. Admittedly, not always with great men, but it gives them something to come home to, something grounding. That’s how I see my relationship. Well, I see it in many ways but one of the most beautiful things is that I feel at home whenever I am in the world because of him. You’ve got someone special to go back to when the s–t hits the fan.’

On starting out as a model: ‘I can see why people think models come across as a little cold. When you start out you’re so young you don’t have a voice. Everyone just tells you what to do and you can end up abroad in the middle of nowhere, with no one speaking English. It is very lonely. …You develop a thick skin to protect yourself. Now I am 26, when I come on a set, I can say what I think and my opinions are noted. I’ve grafted hard to be here.’

She used to read everything on the internet: ‘I read everything on the internet and I got destroyed by it. I panicked. I was unhappy because I was nervous and insecure, so I cut it off. Today I am in a healthier and happier place.’

Girl power: ‘I like the idea that it’s time for women to stop bashing other women. Certain things have happened in the last few years that have humbled me and made me less judgmental of other women – particularly other women in my position. I’m a real girl’s girl and, the older I get, I become more pro women doing what they need to do to achieve their ambitions…We need to celebrate each other more – everybody fails and makes mistakes.’

[From RCF and Metro]

I don’t really have a problem with what she says about women standing up for women, and I guess I sort of respect her honesty about internet trolls, reading her own press and how women turned on her and that’s what made her believe in women standing up for women. I’m not sure if she means to be so confessional or she just doesn’t realize that she’s basically saying that she used to be a judgmental mean girl until the judgmental mean girls turned on her, and that’s why she’s all rah-rah-sisterhood now.

Also: I was confused as to what “I’ve grafted hard to be here” means, so I looked it up. “Graft” is a Britishism for “work hard”. It’s like saying “I’ve hustled hard to be here.”

Last thing (because this came out after I had written all of this out): The Daily Mail says Rosie and Jason are on break. Wow. Apparently, their age difference and his commitment-phobia were to blame. She wanted a ring and he wanted to keep banging a Victoria’s Secret model who didn’t nag him, I guess.

She has very masculine features. It’s a look that is always popular in models. I also always think that she looks like Cameron Diaz, circa THE MASK, and also Joanna Kruppa.

    • Florc says:

Ooohh! Vintage Diaz! I thought she was ridiculously pretty in that movie.

I like her more after this interview. So she’s seen the light that mean girls can turn on each other so easily. Hope she keeps this mentality.

  2. Anna says:

Wow. I am kind of sad that she and Statham arent working out. And I didnt even know I cared!

    • Brie says:

She pretty much said that she was him “for stability” and that he is “admittedly not a great guy”. I dont think the breakup is surprising really. Statham is a reknowned douchebag anyway.

      • Hakura says:

First, she referenced the sort of relationships many models have, & admits not all of them are w/good guys.

But I think she was only comparing it to her relationship in that it’s ‘‘something to come home to’‘ & a source of stability, not that he wasn’t a good guy. (I just don’t see her intentionally saying the guy she’s currently with (at the time of this interview, anyway) ‘isn’t a good guy’).

      • Mindy says:

I think this was a classic case of ‘she knew before she KNEW. They clearly werent in a good place at the time so I dont think its a huge stretch tn assume that she was reflecting on her (shitty) relationship when she mentions stability.

      • tealily says:

Yeah, it was a weird comment. I’m surprised Kaiser didn’t jump on that.

I thought they seemed like a good, solid couple. Shame.

      • OutstandingWorldCitizen says:

I don’t think she was describing JS. The answer was a bit convoluted. I know its hyperbole when someone says “I’ve read EVERYTHING on the internet” but it always makes me laugh. Humanly impossible. The photos are quite dark. Not sure how I feel. She is striking though.

  3. DanaG says:

I don’t see the big deal about her hopefully if she has split from David the paps will stop following her she is that boring and I think she is still a mean girl. She certainly comes off as up herself and better then everyone else.

  4. Downton fan says:

I just find it amazing how even a young, successful, beautiful girl is stuck waiting for the ‘man’ to want to commit… Damn

  5. Snowpea says:

It always blows me away a bit when a dude ain’t happy with a hot bird like Rosie…

It reminds me of what my good guy friend told me once:

“Guys want two things in life…p*ssy and strange p*ssy. He wants his wife to come home to, but he wants the thrill of the new chick as well…”

I remember thinking, “Crikey…what an insight”.

    • shitler says:

      Ain’t that the truth!
      lmaooo

    • John says:

That might be what your friend is like, but it might be what Tallulah Bankhead said ( or a variation of it) “There’s less to her then meets the eye..
And if you do not want to play the game with players, don’t.
I know so many 50 year old single gals who never admitted that the type of guys they desire do not want women like them for anything but sex,
I feel for them, but their values are whacked and they do not, nor will they ever realize it.

  6. Mika says:

Oh God why… On the first photo, she looks like someone photoshopped her head to someone else’s body. And the horrible makeup SMH

    • chaine says:

no way her neck is that long irl. photoshop fail.

      • Hakura says:

@Chaine – Her neck was the first thing I noticed… It looks freakishly ‘giraffe-like’. And her upper lip on the cover shot looks like a slug on her face. Blegh.

    • Aww says:

      Wow, how depressing.

I’ve never had a boyfriend and that’s why. Young guys today want to play the field. Always not satisfied if they’re not out there scoping out any attractive female. It’s bad here in NY where’s there’s pretty ppl everywhere. Even nice guys are guilty of it. Lord forbid a guy can just be ok w/ having a young, attractive, intelligent girlfriend for any period of time.

Ugh, and it gets worse the more attractive the guy is. Most of the nicest and loyal guys I’ve met I haven’t been physically attracted to but did love them dearly. All the semi ones and up have too much self importance (EGO).

Oops, meant to reply to Snowpea when she commented about two thing men want in life is p*ssy and strange p*ssy. lol And they say women are complicated. Pleasssssse…..

  7. bns says:

    I actually like the photoshoot.

  8. tastetnow says:

I hope she finds a tall cute NICE guy, move on Rosie–your EX always had a frown on his face…

I had no idea there was a bunch of negative stuff written about her or blogs were thinking of her like that.

    hmph

  9. audrey says:

There are tons of rumors that Jason is gay. I’m not surprised she was “destroyed” by reading all those rumors.

  10. smee says:

That photo shoot sucks. I think she is strikingly beautiful, but the styling is so unflattering. Why the hell would someone put such a cheap-looking wig on her gorgeous hair?

As for JS – that guy gives me the creeps. Maybe it’s just all his hard-man posing, but he looks mean. Find a nice man closer to your age, woman!

  11. Maya says:

Wow, that last picture…her legs are insane!

  12. lady_luck says:

What she was more likely “destroyed” by was the reviews of her role in transformers in which she was embarrassingly bad, stiff and mannequin-like with her features barely moving and just an all-round terrible actress.

She has not had a new role since!

She is vacuous and yes – she still appears a conceited mean girl, IMHO.

Has anybody else considered the possibility, that Jason no doubt being a douchebag aside, might have decided his view of a wife is somebody with a bit more depth, brains, personality etc.?? Shocker, I know. But it’s possible, surely.

  13. Chrissy says:

I really didn’t like her at first when I found out she was gonna be taking my girl Megan’s place in transformers, but honestly within 20 minutes into the movie I loved her and thought she was awesome.

  14. Aud says:

She is pretty but her features are odd in that they make her appear like a lifeless mannequin.
    Soulless.

  15. Ai says:

I like the second photo, the close up of her face. Quite beautiful. I grew to like her; seems honest and there are worst models etc.

  16. Lauren says:

I don’t think she’s particularly talented, but I do think she’s very beautiful and her body is SICK.

  17. Christo says:

I never saw the resemblance before, but she looks just like British singer Jessie J in the face with that blonde wig.

  18. Charlotte says:

Not to start another comment with ‘she looks like..’ But… She looks like Kelly Lynch in that wig and outfit. And I mean that as a compliment. And if anybody wants a good read, Kelly Lynch’s interview with the AV club is worth checking out.

  19. lady_luck says:

Nice legs, shame about the lack of soul.

Ouch. I hope you’re not reading the internet, Rosie! 😉
