Indeed O is correct. George Michael, though his stardom may have lost its luster,however still no one can deny that he gives great music and the World loved him, whether he’s gay or not.

I can’t believe you don’t know that he topped US charts. Where do you come with the thinking that he’s not big in the states???

When he sold out that European tour a few months ago and got great reviews, I was just thinking, yeah - he’s so over. Talent never dies. If you don’t like someone, fine. But don’t act as if the world revovles around you and your myopic views.

I suppose in your world, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Jimi Hendrix are over because their eras have passed. I guess there isn’t anyone who still admires their work.

As far as the spectacularly stupid statement of finding people in America who still give a shit about him; we all know that there is ALWAYS someone who gives a shit about people. Even the most stupid, trifling, backwards assholes have people who give a shit. Isn’t that true Girlygrrl?

actually, i’m american and i was born in the 80s and i still know how much he’s accomplished. he’s sold something like 80 million records worldwide, he’s worked with paul mccartney, elton john and aretha franklin, to name a few, he was recently paid close to two million dollars to perform for a russian billionaire. in his career he’s had something like 30 top ten hits, and that’s between 82 and 99, by the way. his debut solo album has sold over 20 million alone worldwide. he actually wrote ‘careless whisper’ when he was 17. last year he had a number 1 single on uk dance charts, and he was considering touring north america because of the response from fans here. he’s never been afraid to take a stance on politics, he’s never been afraid to speak about any injustice, really. so i’m sorry if you can’t appreciate what he’s added to the history of music because ‘the 80s are over’ but you can’t change history and he’s clearly made his mark. and, by the way, the remark about the 80s being over is so utterly asinine and ignorant. lots of decades are over, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t add anything to the world. no one is saying you have to be a fan and go out and listen to his music, but don’t be an idiot because i’m kind of embarrassed for you. the man is a star.

Like it or not, the eighties are over, so he is no longer huge in this country. True or False? I think we know the answer to that. Everything else you wrote is speculation. Give us some facts or hightlights of his “huge” career in your country o, maybe that will help us who reside in the “stateside bubble” care. Or maybe not. Just a thought.

here’s a little bit of information you might want to hold on to: america is not the world. like it or not, he’s an icon. and, for future reference, he was huge in america for a very long time. i’m sorry that america would rather worship the escapades of no-talents like britney spears and paris hilton, but no matter what anyone your little stateside bubble thinks . . . george michael has given the world a lot of incredible music and no one can take those accomplishments away from him. and if you really think all he’s famous for is bathroom sex then you really need to turn off your computer and go outside. his personal life aside, anyone with even a passing knowledge of music knows how much he’s contributed. and no matter what he does or doesn’t do in bathrooms and parks, he’s always going to be gifted and admired for his work.
