Angelina Jolie to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Oscar: amazing?

Here are the companion photos to yesterday’s Jolie-Pitt photo set at LAX. They arrived in Sydney, and these pics show a group of happy-looking kids leaving the airport and getting into some kind of van. While I always love to see my favorite, Empress Zahara, for me the real standout of these photos is little Vivienne. Viv looks so depressed that her mom made wear black! Viv loves PINK! Viv even has a little pink travel suitcase with wheels!! OMG. And of course, the rest of the kids are showing their personality too – I feel like Zahara keeps the younger kids in line, whether it’s Shiloh (who has an adorable choppy bob) or Knox, who gets to hold his big sister’s hand.

And in other happy news, Angelina Jolie is going to get another OSCAR. Frankly, I’m stunned. I sometimes wondered if, decades from now, Angelina would receive an Oscar for her humanitarian work, but that was just it: I thought it happen years and years from now. But I guess the Academy really does love her.

And the Oscar goes to…Angelina Jolie! The Governors Awards are still two months away, but fans don’t have to wait to find out who’s taking home one of the coveted honorary statues. On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Jolie — along with Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin, and costume designer Piero Tosi — had been selected by the Board of Governors to receive trophies at the Nov. 16 ceremony in L.A.

“The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who’ve made indelible contributions in their respective fields,” Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in an announcement about the recipients. “We couldn’t be more excited for this year’s honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements.”

Jolie, 37, is set to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the fifth annual event. Named for the Danish actor and philanthropist who served as president of the Motion Picture Relief Fund, the award is given to “an individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry.” Past recipients have included Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Lewis, Quincy Jones, Paul Newman, Elizabeth Taylor, and Audrey Hepburn.

Jolie has certainly proven herself worthy of such company. In recent years, the Maleficent actress has become as famous for her philanthropy as for her film career. She’s a noted advocate for many causes, including the Prevent Sexual Violence Initiative, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The star — who has one other Oscar, a Best Supporting Actress award for the 1999 film Girl, Interrupted — even hinted last year that she might want to give up acting to devote more time to her humanitarian work and her family. (She and fiance Brad Pitt have six kids, three of whom are adopted from other countries.)

“I’ve enjoyed being an actress,” she told Britain’s Channel 4 News in 2012. “And I am so grateful to the job. I’ve had great experiences, and I have even be able to tell stories and be a part of stories that mattered…It’s a really lucky profession to be a part of. But if it went away tomorrow, I would be very happy to be home with my children.”

“I wake up in the morning as a mum,” she continued, “and I turn on the news like everybody else, and I see what’s happening, and I want to be part of the world in a positive way.”

[From Us Weekly]

This is a really big deal. Like, it’s a HUGE deal. Look at the company Angelina is in now – Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Oprah…!! Goodness. Everything’s coming up Brangeloonie, huh? I still can’t believe they’re giving it to her NOW. I think it’s not just about her UNHCR work, although she’s been so active with the UN for something like 13 years. I think this is also about her double mastectomy, and wanting to honor her after her difficult year. Plus, the Academy just loves it when Brad and Angelina come to the ceremony, and although Angelina will formally receive the award in November, she’ll also be invited to the Oscars to probably make a brief speech. Brad might even be invited to the Oscars as one of the producers for 12 Years a Slave!

Yeah, I figured she’d get it someday, just not so soon. Ratings grab?

And I’m so happy for Angela Lansbury.

    • Amelia says:

I heart Angela Lansbury so much. I remember being glued to the screen as a child whenever Bedknobs & Broomsticks was on TV, and I’m strangely fond of Murder She Wrote, too.
Congratulations to Angelina! I’m now off to research what Audrey Hepburn did to deserve the same accolade.

      • erin says:

She was a goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF!

      • Elodie says:

Audrey H. was an UNICEF ambassador for ages, she traveled to East Africa and I believe she has a charity fund after her name….. on top of me head that’s what I remember so far.

      • mayal says:

She was an UNICEF ambassador, but not for ages. She did it for four years before she died.

      • Elodie says:

well to me it’s still ages, and it doesn’t undermine her legacy.

      • mayal says:

I love Audrey, and of course that doesn’t undermine her legacy. She was involved and she was a face of UNICEF for a few crucial years and many people still identify her with the organization.

    • erin says:

It´s not that Angelina Jolie is undeserving of this award – she does a lot of humanitarian work – but I think its to soon. Others had to wait years to be recognized, so I think it also has to do with ratings. Everyone loves to see Jolie/Pitt on the red carpet

      • pwal says:

Angelina totally deserves it. In fact, I was surprised that Oprah got hers before Angelina’s, which it not to say that she wasn’t deserving. My problem with Oprah getting it was because she didn’t have much of a presence in motion pictures, except a couple of roles and some producing credits, and yet she got it, just in time to cut some of the criticisms for OWN’s lack of success.

And as I looked at the past Herscholt winners, I noticed that a lot of them got it when their careers or heatlh were on the wane. Jolie’s career is still on the upswing, as is her health, and the very fact that she took on her humanitarian responsibilities at a point in her career when she very much in demand and her philanthropic works never suffered due to her career or personal life, further illustrates her commitment to it.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

        @pwal

That actually kind of makes sense. Because, (as bad as it is)the only person I knew who received that Oscar (is it part of the ceremony every year?) is Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman in the late eighties/nineties.

But yeah I did go–isn’t she a little young? But your explanation does make sense. Because no one in their right mind would’ve blamed her for taking a step back from her work–charity and Hollywood, to rest and recover from the before and after the mastectomy.

Instead, she was filming (I think she finished Maleficient in Januaryish, or sometime around there), flying around the world for her UNHCR duties–Ecuador, and Warzone Rape, and that Women’s Summit where she wore that kind of Middle Eastern robe type dress—so I agree.

It shows a lot of commitment and unselfishness on her part, to fulfill her duties, and go on just the same, as if nothing was wrong.

I wonder what she’ll wear—please God no sack dress!

(although I can’t talk because if you all saw what I wear, you’d say the same thing–my mother despairs of my fashion sense–I like to put in the least amount of effort in what I wear–although I am trying to get better)

      • Evyn says:

        @Erin
She’s been doing this for 13 years now, and she’s not stopping. Is it because of her age?

      • Liberty says:

        + 1 in the car with @pwal and @Virgilia

    • Mel says:

I dont think anyone doubts that she does alot. But these type of awards tend to come later in the career. And given how badly the Oscars have done in the ratings over the past few years this really does feel like a populist choice. A ratings panacea.

Its hard to be too bothered though. She was going to get it eventually I guess.

      • mayal says:

The award is not given at Oscars.

      • Mel says:

True but she will be honored at the Oscars and have to give a speech too. That means camera time and by extension more viewers.

      • mayal says:

No, there will be no speech. For the last five years they held a separate ceremony that was only showed in a short clip at Oscars. Oprah did not give speech at Oscars when she received her award, she was just recognized in a clip with other Honorary Oscar awardees.

Angelina will give her speech in November, and a few seconds of that speech will be shown at Oscar telecast in March.

  2. lenje says:

Well, whatever the Academy’s reason is, she deserves this recognition. (And I’m not even a fan). Congrats to Angelina!

  3. Maria says:

    She deserves it.

    Her family is beyond adorable.

  4. Helena Hand-Basquet says:

It looks like Zahara takes her job as a big sister pretty seriously, like she doesn’t put up with *any* kind of nonsense from the twins. She means business!

    • Frida_K says:

      I see that too.

      Very sweet and amusing!

    • mccora96 says:

I’m a big sister of just four and I totally get Z’s mother-hen thing. The next oldest was my sister who was just 15 months younger than me (and, like Shiloh, taller than me!), but I was still the one “worrying” and very aware of all my sibs whereabouts even when I was trying to be “cool”. I see the same thing in my oldest girl, too.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I’m the same way–although I am the second oldest—but the eldest sister is eight years older than me and my twin.

I still do get really worried about what happens with my parents or siblings if they go somewhere, and they’re a little late coming back—or with my siblings, if they’ll do good in school and get good jobs and survive out on their own. Weird stuff, I guess.

  5. Greata says:

    Yeah Baby!

  6. lucy2 says:

Not a fan of her as an actress, but she certainly does put a lot of time and effort into humanitarian causes, so this is a nice honor.
A little surprised they selected her before Clooney.

    • jaliah24 says:

Well, despite George’s million dollar PR, he hasn’t done nearly as much as Angie or even Brad has. Don’t get me wrong, I think all help is good help and George has done some very good works.

    • AKA says:

Well I for one am glad they picked AJ before Clooney or Sean Penn, who would eventually get this award too. Say what we want about Angelina but she’s very intelligent in how she approaches her charities. No silly statements about supporting Chavez or standing in the picket line for Sudan and then dropping the issue.

      • lucy2 says:

Penn? No way. I don’t think they’ll ever recognize him, too controversial.
Clooney does a LOT of humanitarian work but maybe not quite as much as Jolie, but he seems to be an Academy darling, which is why I was surprised they didn’t go with him first.

      • Helena Hand-Basquet says:

Whenever I think of Sean Penn, I see that picture of him standing in that disgusting water after Hurricane Katrina, rescuing people. He may be a lot of things, but I’ll always remember him for that. I think he probably does everything under the radar like he did with Haiti and Katrina, so it’ll be interesting to see if they ever honor him for his work. I hope so.

Anyway, congrats to Angelina. Humanitarians rock!

    • Liberty says:

He’s done a lot, but maybe they are waiting until Clooney rescues even more waitresses, wrestlers, hostesses and dance models around the world from their uncertain fates?

Project Clooney: New Hope, New Styling, New Life

    • moot says:

Except Clooney is too busy angling for more Oscars: directing, producing, acting. Giving him a Humanitarian award at the same time he’s getting nominated for other awards would seem like too much all at once. Or so I would think.

Angelina, OTOH, doesn’t have much Oscar bait on the horizon. Which probably was a reason to give her the Hersholt now while there was nothing else going on to compete with that.

  7. maria says:

Poor Pax, he’s always hiding behind something

    • Meredith says:

Angie almost seems to have given him something to hide behind. Fine with me if the kid doesn’t like the badly behaved apps. Good for him!

  8. Andrea says:

Angelina most certainly deserve this. She has given 13 years to humanitarian work and she is only 38. I applaud her steadfastness and her tireless effort to force the media to pay attention to issues like the refugees that they will rather not cover. Congratulations to all the recipients

  9. pam246 says:

I don’t understand why people keep saying that the kids are wild and out of control. I’ve never seen them act out. Just because they’re holding hands doesn’t mean it’s a way to keep control.

It’s surprising she’s getting the award now but it’s not as if she’s doesn’t do anything to deserve it.

    • V4Real says:

I’m just laughing at your comment that says you’ve never seen them act out. None of us have seen them act out because we are not around them. 🙂

I think she deserves the award but it’s obvious it’s a PR move for The Academy.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Well I’m thinking the OP is referring to the tabloid stories about them, and by extension a few posters (sometimes, very rarely) repeat them as fact. I do remember a few where they were saying that the kids were out of control, and trashing hotel rooms and generally being a terror to the staff at the hotels—because no one could control them (apparently they could roam free w/out nannies or anything).

I watched B&A’s interviews at the 2009 oscars, and one of the interviewers asked them what their kids were doing and Brad said something like “beating each other up and throwing spaghetti at the walls”—stuff like that.

In my experience, kids who are like that at home (trust me I know a few) don’t suddenly stop once they’re out in public. If any of those kids were that bad we’d know about it.

One funny example is that I have an aunt who doesn’t discipline her kids very well, and when she does it it’s half assed. Well, the first day my mom babysat my cousins (from this aunt), she walked in on the oldest one, in the kitchen, eating a sandwich—leaned back so the chair was on two legs, WITH BOTH HIS NASTY, DIRTY FEET ON THE KITCHEN TABLE. And he tried to say that he was allowed to do it at home i.e. he did it at home and his mother didn’t discipline him for it, so he figured he could do it at my house.

BUT there is a picture (on this site) with Maddox (I think) cranking his entire arm back to whack Pax in the face. I remember I found it funny, because he was going all out for that slap–not unlike me and my siblings.

      • Liz says:

Entirely to young to be receiving this award. It is certainly a PR move… Proof, that even the Humanitarian Award can be bought. My opinion!

    • Janet says:

Years ago Star (!) ran a bullshit story saying the J-P kids were wrecking their hotel room and throwing spaghetti on the walls.

So when some reporter on the red carpet asked Brad how the kids were doing, he grinned and said “They’re back at the hotel throwing spaghetti on the walls.”

      The trolls ate it up.

  10. kaykay says:

    she doesnt deserve it

    • Janet says:

      Why not?

    • Sal says:

Angelina, more than anyone, deserves it.

    • doofus says:

though I’m not a huge fan of Jolie like some on here, I fully believe that she does deserve this. the woman does a LOT for humanitarian causes.

so, I’m curious as to why you’d think she doesn’t deserve this. though, I’m guessing you’re just a sh*t-stirrer.

ETA: those kids are painfully cute.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

+1. I like her fine but I don’t blow a load over her like most of the posters around here.

That being said, I’m really happy for her and it’s just trolling to say “she doesn’t deserve it”.

    • Annabelle says:

I couldn’t disagree more. Angie has been actively involved in humanitarian work for almost fifteen years. She gives of her time and has made considerable donations to many charities from her personal wealth. I don’t understand how anybody could say she doesn’t deserve this.

    • Andrea says:

Angelina was a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ Goodwill Ambassador for over 10 years (starting at the tender age of 25 years) and made over 30 field missions during that time on her own dime. She has given millions and millions of dollars to refugees and economic development projects since 2001 throughout the world. She funds over 20 schools in Africa, Cambodia and Afghanistan, as well as clinics, orphan asylums and hospitals. She started the only Millennium Project outside Africa and the ONLY Millennium Project solely funded by an individual. It employs over 70 people in the region and encompasses a territory that is home to over 5000 villagers. She also funds major humanitarian efforts in the Americas such as her family foundation’s donation to the survivors of the tornadoes in Joplin and Oklahoma. She has been since 2010 a UNHCR Special Envoy and has visited many war torn regions to personally witness the plight of the world’s 20+ million refugees.
Angelina Jolie certainly more than deserves it…

      • bros says:

        hear hear!

      • cs says:

        Yes. This!!
She’s been involved since 25 years old. Please tell me what are most 20 something year olds doing in HW? You have Kristen Stewart giving the paps the finger ( they don’t deserve to breathe the same air as her) , Lindsey trying to come off her high (jury still out on this one), Jennifer Lawrence still pretending HW doesn’t matter to her and she’s a badass..
Angie is no Martyr or Saint and I’m not saying they have to be like her. I was probably more like them in my 20’s. I certainly was thinking more partying than charity. But, the girl got all her demons out of her system at such an early age and I’m proud to be a fan.
She’s Fierce!! I’ve seen many of photos at award shows , where actors/actresses are literally bowing down to her.
I believe Lainey mentioned that Brad/Angie are like the prom queen/king at award events. Actors come to their table at these events. They don’t have go to them .

    • Liza Jane says:

Oh! Of course you think the self aggrandizing Miss O deserved it? She, who can throw millions at anything to get attention, who is a fame whore and a publicity junkie? Her ‘goodwill’ gestures are all for attention,on her…

      • TinyTurtle says:

This is the thing that always gets me…
Ok so you think she throws MILLIONS and goes to dangerous places, funds schools, hospitals and clinics, does tons of UN work for 13 years… all for famewhore attention.

Well here’s hoping more actors and actress’s with millions to throw around to help people for attention catch on to this trend.

WHO CARES IF IT IS TO GET ATTENTION
She is STILL helping tons of people in the world.

but frankly once you do something for 13 years I think we can say she actually means it :p

This isn’t like lindsday saying she wants to help people then never does to try to make herself look better. THATS a fame whore. Paris hilton saying she wanted to help the kids in africa and never does anything is a fame whore.

But please, give us more “fame whores” like Angelina, the world needs them desperately

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Um, the only reason we know when she goes to a refugee camp is because her role is to promote public awareness—she’s supposed to bring the cameras with her.

Your criticism would make sense if everytime she and Brad went down to New Orleans–it was all over the news with blatant photo ops.

  11. Micha says:

    Great for Angelina!

And I just think Shiloh is so beautiful.

  12. m says:

Good for her, too bad its such an obvious PR move on behalf of the Academy. They always want her to attend because she brings ratings, and this means she cant turn down her invitation again.

    • babies says:

It looks like Brad is going to be nominated (12 Years a Slave), so they didn’t need to do it as a PR move. Regardless, she really, really deserves it.

    • mayal says:

How is it a PR move? Ceremony is in November and is not televised. She does not have to show up at Oscars iin March, they usually just present a clip from the November’s ceremony.

      .

    • iheartjacksparrow says:

Angie deserves it, but the Academy loves to give awards to people with health issues. I remember there was an uproar when Elizabeth Taylor won the Oscar for Butterfield 8. Everyone was commenting that it was only because she had a tracheotomy and almost died. I think the fact that Angie had a double-mastectomy won her the award now rather than later.

  13. Frida_K says:

Maddox is always going to have that special spot in my heart because he was such an incredibly cute baby. And just look at him now! He is a suave dog for sure.

    Gonna grow up to be a heart-breaker, I reckon…

    🙂

  14. AKA says:

I can’t think of anyone else who deserves this award more. Sure there are other celebs who have done humanitarian work for years too, but lately her charity work has really been what has defined Angelina. She started being involved in it at a very young age and made adoption “cool”. Plus I love her emphasis on education to female children living in a patriarchal society. 38 is young to receive an honorary award but we know AJ would be involved in her charity work for the rest of her life. Great choice!

    • mccora96 says:

When she first adopted Maddox and had gone to Sierra Leone, etc., I remember thinking- WOW- she is so young and has already accomplished so much- I wonder what she’ll be doing in 10 years?? Answer- so much more!

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Well I do wonder, how many other celebrities started charity work (not just w/ the UN) as young as she was, and have put in as much time and money into it as she has?

I do think on one hand she seems a little young for it, but she’s spent the majority of her adult life doing that work, and doing it to the fullest of her ability—not just whenever she has the time, or she needs a photo op. And she does it consistently.

I don’t know of any young i.e. under 40 celebrities that do as much as she does, especially consistently for years.

I think back to Lana Del Ray–who said she wants to be “a kind of Jolie”—wtf has she done? That interview was last year, I believe. What has she done? There are a lot of people who want to use charity work as a pr line to make them seem interesting in interviews, but then they can’t even halfheartedly back up their statements.

      • lenje says:

Some of them started quite young, though were not very much covered. For instance, Shakira and — surprise, surprise — Rihanna (she founded the Believe Foundation, focusing on children’s health, at the age of 18).

Shakira remains committed to her charity works, I think. There’s an amazing article about her in New York Times Magazine back in 2009 http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/07/magazine/07Shakira-t.html?pagewanted=all.

As for Rihanna, I don’t know. I’m not really a fan of her music (albeit familiar with her songs, for sure!), but I do think she’s a talented entertainer. The fact that she got involved in social issues early in her career makes me think that she’s actually a deeper person that what appears in public. It’s kinda sad to see her at the current state, and I can only hope she’ll get herself together again.

  15. xboxsucks says:

vivienne is gorgeous, she seems to have attitude.

  16. NYC_girl says:

Is it wrong that I wish I had Shiloh’s hairstyle?

    • StormsMama says:

      This!

    • inthekitchen says:

      Not AT. ALL. 🙂

I absolutely love how they let each of their kids just be themselves and express their personalities. If Shi wants to dress in a gender non-conformist way…awesome. If Z wants to wear dresses and “girly” outfits…also awesome. I don’t have kids but know there are so many other more important battles to have so I appreciate they don’t force their kids into boxes in that way and also that they just look like normal kids and not fashion models (like the Beckham kids or Gwen Stefani’s sons).

  17. Hypocrisy says:

    Jolie deserves it.

She went to Afghanistan before New York bombings. Went to Sierra Leone, Irak (several times), even while pregant, outside of the protected zone with a kevlar vest on a patrol with GIs. She tooks risks with her life no other actor ever done.

She gives 1/3 of her own acting money to help humanitarian causes, she created schools, adopted some orphans of those countries, slept under tents on desease riddled refugee camps with the stench of death all over, meeting them, kissing them, listening to their terrible stories, eating spiders and food that none of the other actors turned humanitarians would dare to eat, writing stories and advocating to change some policies relentlessly and to track down war criminals giving names. She has more guts than any male actors turned humanitarian out there.

She pledged for refugees before people would even acknowledged her.

She worked with a network consisting of high commanders, spies and presidents and becomes a special envoy for refugees.

She deserved it more than any other actor or actress or even princess out there who goes on humanitarian PR job, barely touching refugees, then go sleep quietly on the sole 5 star hotel of the country with her cartier and Chanel stuff.

  18. Elodie says:

    Amazing.

  19. Mar says:

    Vivian is too cute!!!
I love AJ- she sets the bar so so high.

  20. Emma - the JP Lover says:

Well done, and well deserved. 🙂

  21. Mabs says:

Nice, happy photo. The kids definitely look adjusted, appearances might not be everything but that being all we can go on, appearances are more than favorable. Cute Clan!

  22. serena says:

I’m so happy to read that! Angelina really deserves it, she’s a great woman and has done a lot of good work for the world.

Also, OMG Shiloh is so adorable (and she’s already so tall!)!!

  23. eliza says:

I have to say it is refreshing to see a Hollywood actress with her real hair and not an extension ladden mop with a Bump It on top.

Good for her on the award.

  24. Littlewood says:

The kids are adorable, Shiloh seems like the clown of the family, Knox wants to copy his dad but doesn’t manage to put his shoes on correctly (they’re on the wrong feet!), Pax seems very shy, Maddox is becoming a broody teenager, Vivienne is probably going to be a handful like her mother was and Zahara seems to babysit them all, so Sweet!

  25. lisa2 says:

    Well earned and deserved.

I don’t recall seeing any of these people that say she shouldn’t get it say that about George Clooney or Ben Affleck when they receive honors. Both have been involved in their causes less time than Angelina.

she has been extremely committed. I love that she is the youngest to receive it. And rightfully so. I think her detractors are pissed. According to them she is hated in Hollywood. Well another wrong assumption to add to the many they hold.

    • Andrea says:

You are right! Its only when it comes to Angie that there is criticism.. Anyways this is well deserved because she has certainly done excellently and exceedingly well above her peers. And yes this is to prove people who feel Angie is hated in hollywood wrong! As a matter of fact is well loved, admired and respected…

      • haroldos says:

Actaully Angie has a ton of fans that stick up for her. Most felmale stars on celebitchy are criticized way more then her. Go look at Natalie Portman or Anne Hatheway posts and you will see what I mean. Natalie Portman posts have all negative comments and people are always insulting her acting, calling her Oscar undeserved, her looks, her husband, her child( what has the poor child done to anger people?) for dumb reasons. Angie posts are filled with never-ending postive comments about her, her acting, her looks, Brad and their kids. Angie is very well liked here and other females celebs are hated on this site. I feel the extact opposite when it comes to Angelina.

      • Andrea says:

        @Harolds.
I am not just restricting it to this site alone there are countless sites out there that never see any good in whatever angelina jolie does. Some people say the charity is for PR, some wish death for her and her kids, some want a split for her and Brad, some say she is a wh*re an evil manipulative witch. Some say she had a boob job and not a mastectomy they call her all sort of names.
Angelina Jolie is the only actress who has got it bad with people they just hate her for no reason and never see good in anything she does they believe its for PR..this site is the only fair and balanced site when it comes to Angelina Jolie……

    • Mireille says:

Agree with everything you wrote. I don’t get the criticism from some people that she’s too young to receive this award as many posters here have pointed out all her accomplishments in humanitarian work. In over 10 years, she has contributed so much from funding schools and clinics to speaking out against rape and speaking for refugees. I don’t think it matters to Angie one way or the other for accolades, but as a fan, I do, and I am happy she’s getting the recognition.

  26. Paige says:

Beautiful Angelina. She is an amazing woman. As a huge fan, I am very very proud of her. She deserves it. Her kids are gorgeous. Zahara always mommy’s little helper and she has on blue eye shadow. Shiloh looks like a handful. She is a Mix of both parents, is she taller than Zahara? Pax hates the paps, and that bear has been more places than I have. Maddox is so cool and such a teenager now. Knox is a mini Angie with his daddy’s mannerisms. He’s always smiling. Th camera loves him. Vivi is a mini-Brad and she is just so precious.

  27. phlyfiremama says:

Oscar Pitt p0rn?? SQUEAL!!! Those children are so amazingly beautiful, it is mind boggling.

    • LoL says:

Yuck and eww. Hopefully Angelina won’t bother showing up to be Pittstains trophy fiancé. He will probably show up with the other SEVEN producers of TYAS to try to appear like he did somethng worthy in that movie. LoL The award will be given to her in November way before the oscars.

I toldya angelina would be directing and Pittstain would be straining his botox trying to act. LoL the next time he promotes his next movie he will say “I’ve been with the kids while momma is working.” A load of pooey as always. 🙂 the nannies and Angelina are their caretakers.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

You know your point might’ve been made better, if you didn’t have to resort to ridiculous and childish name calling.

I may not agree with you, but I respect you and your post better if you don’t have to resort to calling people (even if they are celebrities) ridiculous names. My little sister calls people names like that, when she doesn’t get her way or doesn’t like something.

I would hope a grown adult wouldn’t need to, to get his/her point across.

      • Jospehina says:

Brad Pitt as a producer is nothing to sneeze at.

Steve McQueen, the director of the movie TYAS, said that his movie would not have been made WITHOUT Brad Pitt’s involvement. I believe he recently made this statement at the Telluride Film Festival.

His current movie, World War Z, has already sold over $200 Million in the U.S. and overseas for a whopping total of over $530 MILLION WORLDWIDE… AND still counting. We have yet to include DVD and aftermarket sales. Oye!!

I remember a number of you thought WWZ would not make any money, let alone recover the expenses of making the movie. Well???

        Numbers don’t lie….

Since 2005, Brad Pitt’s Production Plan B company has churned out award winning and/or award nominated movies. Every SINGLE one of them-since 2005. That’s not luck, that’s strategy.

      • May says:

Don’t take what Lol said to the heart they and other FF members are going through a hard time right now. Angeilna is a getting huge award for her charity work and at such a young age. Brad has yet another movies that he produced and acted in, is most likely going to get nominated for an Oscar and WWZ being a big seccsess.

So they have to say something negative about Angeilna and Brad to make the world seem right again.

      • Andrea says:

        @LoL u sound So ridiculous!
@May I must imagine the misery they are at FF! The just keep spinning more hate to make themselves feel better
I am So happy as a brange fan… Its quite a remarkable achievement they both have made..

      • Janet says:

Lol don’t you feel more than a tad ridiculous after you predicted to all and sundry that WWZ would be a major bomb?

      • LoL says:

I don’t mind being childish. I think the nick-name Pittstain is hilarious. I read it on another site and I’m Using it now. Mr botox is another good one. Both fit him well.

Janet, I’ve said before that I thought the movie would bomb before Angelina’s mastectomy reveal. After that I knew it would be a hit. Angelina’s dr even said Aj purposely chose a certain moment to make the reveal. What a coinkidink that it just happened to be right before wwz was released, huh? LoL I still think she’s awesome.

  28. Brittney says:

I echo most of the sentiments already expressed here. It seems soon but is very, very deserved, as she’s done more in 13 years than most will ever do in a whole lifetime. I’ve been a huge fan since right around the time she started doing humanitarian work, and it just made it that much easier to admire her as a human being. She’s always been a breath of fresh air in Hollywood as a performer too, but it’s her work with refugees that has kept me a devoted fan.

I’m proud to see her take home yet another honor, but I know her real rewards come when she’s out in the field. The people who deserve the trophies the most are the ones who care about them the least.

  29. Mandy says:

Look at that little blazer on Knox!!! Freaking adorable.

    • Bird says:

Who the hell puts a 5 year old in a SUIT for an incredibly long international flight?

Oh, that’s right – Knox must have chosen that himself *eye roll*.

  30. Maya says:

Well done Angelina. She definitely deserves this and many more awards for both her movie career and humanitarian work. I wont be surprised years later if she received the Nobel prize.

  31. MavenTheFirst says:

    Feh. Hollywood.

  32. Chutzpah says:

I cant be the only person in the world that thinks those biological kids, especially the twins are weird looking.

    • Sullivan says:

      Sure you can.

      • Chutzpah says:

Well apparently not – I had a look online after reading your sniffy remark.

Save your snark for the celebs dear that’s what this website is for,…

      • Lady D says:

If the snark is for the celebs, how about you lay off small children.

      • Chutzpah says:

‘weird looking’ aint snark and if it is you spend too much time here and Lainey and not enough time at Dlisted..

I didn’t say ugly I didn’t say Downs which I didn’t realise is all over the web. Hell I was a weird looking child some kids need time to grow into their features but bitches jumping down my throat need to ask – if a gossip site gossips about celeb kids don’t clutch your pearls when people make observations about them.

      • Lady D says:

No pearl clutching, never been to Lainey’s site, and I’ve read DListed every day for the past 4.5 years. No matter what I do or don’t read, I believe that adults are supposed to protect children, not denigrate them.

  33. Alexis says:

I’m one of five kids, but we’re all spaced out. I’ve noticed that each kid has an playmate really close in age. I wonder if they will have two kids at around the same time if they adopt (or give birth) again?

    • Janet says:

I doubt it. I think their family has reached a size they are comfortable with and they will stop at six.

  34. RHONYC says:

i hate black clothes on lil’ children. i seems to stifle their beautiful, bubbly spirits.

Maddox looks sooooooo over it, tee-hee!

Empress Z looks like she could be Marcus Samuelson’s kid.

    & finally Shiloh’s adult front tooth grew in…yay! 😀

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

      HA! @Shiloh’s tooth…

My little cousin got his front baby tooth knocked out too early. So for about two years, he had a big gaping hole, paired with the other tiny baby tooth. It was Hilarious.

Then when the other tooth finally grew in, the other one fell out and took its sweet time growing (what it seemed like), so he had half a tooth growing for a while there.

  35. Chell says:

I love how genuinely happy Angelina looks in these photos. She just looks like a proud mom…makes my heart smile. I adore this woman.

  36. twokids says:

Couldn’t she at least hem her pants?????

  37. rudy says:

Why does someone have to wait until they are old and gray and tottering on stage to get the award?

Angie has already accomplished more humanitarian work than most people will in their lifetime, even people with her amount of celebrity.

I think it’s great she is getting this award when she is still very active, vibrant, with 6 young kids and one hippie hubby.

  38. Esmerelda says:

Shiloh in the Star Wars t-shirt! And the Luke Skywalker bob! Disney, start casting now for episode VII!!! Please! 😉

  39. laktacja says:

The Academy seems to have a curious idea of “humantarian” – Jolie flies on a private jet to poor places, stays in a fancy hotel, brings her entourage, flits into a village long enough to get a few pics of herself figuring prominently in all of them, takes a private car back to nice hotel, and takes private place to luxury home. Yep, she’s a regular Gandhi that Jolie!

    • Hiddlesgirl85 says:

      ?

    • Janet says:

Put a lid on it, Jen. It’s tiresome already.

    • Irishae says:

laktacja, you in danger girl. 😉

    • Kimberly says:

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha thanks for the laugh you FF people are made aren’t you 🙁

You keep telling your self that if it makes you feel better but don’t be surprised if the rest of us have a good laugh at you while you do it 🙂

    • Agusta says:

I find it weird how they have an Oscar based on humanatarian work. She deserves it tho but the hypocrisy on this site is really funny. When Natalie Portman, Anne Hatheway, Jennifer Lawrence won Oscars, everyone started to badmouth them by saying they did not deserve it, they suck at acting, the Oscars are a joke, Harvey Weinstein bought it for them, etc. I guess only when Brad or Angelina are deserving of an award, their fans take the Oscars seriosuly. But whoever the front runners for Best Actress/Actor/Director are will be the centre of attention no doubt. They always are.

      • Kimberly says:

        What are you talking about?

What dose BP and AJ fans have to do with people thinking Natalie Portman, Anne Hatheway, Jennifer Lawrence didn’t deserve it? and did you not read all the comments when Brad was up for an Oscar?

Do you personally know that every one of BP and AJ fans badmouth Natalie Portman, Anne Hatheway and Jennifer Lawrence ? Or that they are not a fan of any of these women? So how can you say its hypocritcal?

    • pam246 says:

@laktacja: Comments like these never make sense. If this was going on for 15 years wouldn’t there be evidence? It’s really baffling that people attack Angelina for being wealthy yet haters don’t have a problem with Matt Damon, George Clooney, etc living a wealthy lifestyle.

    • Katherine says:

      “she’s a regular Gandhi”

Oh, it’s the Gandhi girl from FF. LOL!!!

Go sell your silly lies and cray cray elsewhere. Make sure you put enough postage on your Epistle to the Academy.

Jeez it’s amazing when a woman trying to do good in the world can turn some women into frothing banshees trolling from site to site spreading their venom. Sad and sick.

Bravo to Angelina Jolie for earning her place in the world. Age is irrelevant.

    • Bird says:

It’s funny that the only people who sound crazy are the people attacking Laktacja. Why are you all so invested in protecting this woman against a harmless gossip site comment? It’s just creepy, and I regret to inform you that she has a point.

  40. Claudia says:

    I love this woman

  41. Lucky Charm says:

I know it sounds crazy, but in (the second picture) close-up pic of Vivienne, I could swear I see traces of Zahara in her face! Without a doubt, Angelina and Brad have six adorable kids. The sweetness overload of seeing all six of them together is making my blood sugar spike, lol!

    • Janet says:

Er… yeah, well that would be a stretch, seeing as how they aren’t remotely related genetically, but maybe being siblings has influenced Vivi to absorb some of Z’s personality traits which would show up in her facial expressions. And they seem to be two very girly girls so they have that in common. Maybe Z is teaching her baby sister the Empress Side-eye. She practically has that look patented.

      • A says:

Oh ffs! Stop with the “side eye” comments. The child has a neutral facial expression.
A “side eye” is something Viv has in the second pic.
A “side eye” is not someone with a neutral, non smiling, face

      • Janet says:

        You’ve never seen Z’s side-eye, have you?

  42. Bohemia says:

    i love this news!

  43. Lee says:

Ignore jealous people. They are just desperate for attention and your giving them some with feedback…
NO ONE DESERVES it more then JOLIE. I adore her and she doesn’t have to do any charity, yet she does. She could have been a model, smile for the cameras, sell makeup, or live off her very rich father, but she is her own women and she’s an amazing example for women like myself who admire those with substance. She walks the talk. Her children are precious. Congratulations Anjelina Jolie…

  44. DGO says:

Isn’t this the kind of award you get at the end of your life? She’s not sick or anything, is she?

    • clock says:

      Jealousy?
Open your eyes and see the world.

    • Ennie says:

Maybe because a lot of young-youngish people in HW are not interested in really doing anything for other but except going to charity parties to mingle with each other.
Angelina may not be a humanitarian worker in the sense that she is not directly in the field everyday, but she has put her heart on it starting as a young adult and never letting go of these activities.
While others are busy becoming High fashion muses, worrying about getting a magazine cover, shocking the world with antics, or just working and going on holidays, she has this humanitarian side as a real thing for her, acting is a secon thing.
That is why she is receiving this while young. She has achieved things.
      Kudos to her.

    • TC says:

      @DGO:

No, this isn’t an award you get at the end of your life. This isn’t a lifetime achievement award. It’s a humanitarian award. An award recognizing service and outreach to those in need. Age has nothing to do with it. It’s quite possible the recipients of this award tend to be older because the Academy is made up of older individuals who are probably more familiar with the work of their peers and therefore are more likely to select them for this honor; or that the Academy is now trying to send a message to “young Hollywood” by selecting a younger individual in the hopes that other young stars will follow in Angie’s footsteps. She’s clearly a great role model for young Hollywood. And let’s face it, young Hollywood could definitely do with a shift in consciousness.

Anyone who thinks Angie is “too young” or underserving of this award needs to read up on her humanitarian accomplishments over the last 13 years, specifically her most recent work with William Hague on the new war zone rap law that’s now on the books. Rape is now illegal and perpetrators will now be tried and convicted, if guilty, in a court of law. And this law is all because of Angie’s work with refugees.

This woman is able to get things done in a political arena filled with men who NEVER seem to be able to get anything done. She should get an award just for that! Bravo Angie. Bravo.

  45. Debbie says:

    Dear Biebs/Jaden/et al.,

Look to Maddox for tips on coming off worldly. Not a lifted eyebrow or artificially-wrinkled forehead to be seen, just a blasé air — on top of which, cool clothes and great (for a teenager) posture.

Of course, in Maddox’s case, he is *actually* worldly. Going out and doing things other than drugs and hostesses might help, too.

    Sincerely,

    Me

  46. Anon says:

Angelina does not deserve most of the stuff thrown at her..by certain people, but this, most certainly.. she earned and deserved. Not, that she would have ever asked for it, because she has other reasons for doing her work.
“Without the balance of doing things that actually matter in the world — and being part of the real world — then I would have been left in a bubble,” “That would have felt very empty and I probably would have just had a very shallow, horrible life.” Angelina Jolie.

  47. Janet says:

OMFG. The hags on FF have officially lost it. They have circulated a petition to AMPAS asking them not to give Angie the Oscar.

Among other things, they claim Angie adopted her children illegally and is buddy-buddy with the Assads,

If you need some laughs, mosey on over to Just Jared, click on the thread about Brad Pitt at TIFF, scroll to the second page of the comments and you can read the whole thing.

    • Littlewood says:

With all the people mentioning Femalefirst on here I got curious and had a look… OMG I didn’t know so much hatred towards people they’ve never met existed and it’s not just “harmless hate” by calling them crappy actors or ugly; they go as far as calling Jolie abusive and Pitt a pedofile, the twins are mentally retarded because their mum used heroine while pregnant, they’re stalking Aniston etc etc. I wish I never went to that site!

      • Janet says:

I should have warned you. Everybody posting on there should be locked up in a padded cell. They also claim Jolie is running a child slavery ring and is plotting total world domination. After I clicked out of there I wanted to wash my entire hard drive in Lysol.

      • Littlewood says:

Seriously? I admit I didn’t read that far, it’s one thing to make some bitchy comments about a celebrity now and again (that’s why I come to this site) but that’s much abuse and hatred to people that haven’t done anything wrong and their innocent children on a daily basis? That’s just sick….

    • zut alors! says:

You do realize that with every mention of FF, you’re giving them the attention they crave? Why care so bloody much about them? Take a page from Angelina and ignore all that $h!t.

  48. Fan says:

That movie “Beyond Borders” must have influenced her. She is amazing. This movie has remained my favorite movie.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

(I’ve been cleaning and baking all day, so I’m glad to get off my feet and lurk CB again)

It was Tomb Raider that influenced her the most, I think. I saw this interview, right after I watched the movie, with Barbara Walters I think—where she said that she became aware of people’s suffering while shooting in Cambodia. The locals kept telling the crew where they could film and where they couldn’t, because they still have a bunch of unexploded landmines in their country.

She said she adopted from Cambodia because someone told her that you should adopt a kid from a place that you care about–which is why I’m holding out for a New Orleans adoption.

  49. horizonte says:

all i could look at is the new tattoo on her right forearm! i wonder what it means, it looks like arabic! anyone else see it?

  50. hmm says:

This is a huge assumption, but it appears that Maddox might be isolating himself a bit from the rest of the children? It’s pretty common for adopted children to have some degree of resentment for not being blood. He seems a little distant.

    • Bea says:

He’s 12. Ever have a 12 year old in the house? If not, borrow one and that will explain everything.

    • Janet says:

@hmm: Now really, what self-respecting almost-teenager wants to be bothered with a bunch of little kids? He’s growing up.

@Bea: Been there, done that. By the time he was 13 I was ready to call the draft board and see if they could take him five years early.

    • lenje says:

He’s a teenager. Teens are like that. (Eh probably the only exception I’ve seen is Brooklyn Beckham, who always seems to tend to his baby sister LOL)

  51. Janet says:

Great pic of Z, Shiloh and Pax (without the purple bear over his face for once). Shiloh is taller than her big sister.
