Olivia Wilde covers Allure: gorgeous or one of the worst Photoshops ever?

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde covers the October issue of Allure to promote Rush. At least I think she’s promoting that movie. Forgive me if I sound flippant or obnoxious — it’s so difficult to tell what Olivia is promoting here because she’s really awful at choosing film projects. The woman has talent, and she is witty as hell. What’s the problem? She has a terrible box-office record. In Olivia’s defense, she has a very able publicist who is able to score her multiple magazine covers for any given film. Her agent, however, sucks. Who ever thought The Incredible Burt Wonderstone would be a success?

Anyway, this Allure magazine shoot is not good. Olivia is what I would consider to be a great and striking beauty, but the person in charge of the Photoshop got carried away with the perspective functions. Why does her face look so flat? It’s scary, and I’m guessing Olivia’s publicist was not happy about this representation of her client. The Rush-inspired editorial isn’t any more flattering than the cover. Poor Livvy. This shoot will not help her career, and no one deserves this.

The interview is kind of a crap shoot and only makes sense with backstory. Olivia discusses how Jennifer Aniston helped her through the maze of out-of-context dying-vagina comments and “only kidding” claims of Kenyan marathon sex with Jason Sudeikis:

Olivia Wilde

Her new BFF Jennifer Aniston: “I reached out to Jen, who has, of course, been through the wringer, and I explained the situation and I said I needed advice on how to deal with these things. She wrote me one of the most gracious, wise emails describing her journey and really wonderful words of advice about how to deal with it. And in the end, I think I would do it all again exactly the same way.”

On how she met Jason Sudeikis: “I met Jason, and I thought he was so charming. He’s a great dancer and I’m a sucker for great dancers. But he didn’t even get my number. Over the next six months we kept running into each other. [One night] my best guy friend walked up to him and said, ‘This is Olivia’s number. Use it.’ That was the beginning.”

She’s planning her wedding: “[It should be a] funny, silly wedding. I trust everyone to not leak any information. I just hope no one ends up flying a stupid helicopter over it or anything dumb like that.”

She doesn’t do pleasure-free dieting: “Fear of carbs, of gluten, of everything – we’ve distanced ourselves from the beauty of food, the art of it. It makes me sad when people say, ‘Oh, I don’t eat gluten, I don’t eat cheese. I don’t eat this. So I eat cardboard.'”

On her bod: “I’ve thought for a long time that my body type would have worked well in the 70s. The idea that you could be a broad-shouldered, small-breasted woman and still wear really great outfits.”

[From Allure]

I can’t help it. I am starting to like this woman. Olivia is terribly sharp and tragically self aware. She’s sort of full of herself, but that’s the way of Hollywood. There’s still some hope. Even if Rush fails miserably, at least Olivia has several movies still in production. Among these projects is a Paul Haggis-directed flick wherein she gets naked with Liam Neeson. Neeson stated that he was super nervous about this project. As he should be.

I heard that she has less than 10 minutes of screen time in Rush (witch apparently is a good movie) so the amount of publicity she id doing for this movie is a bit weird.

    • Lucy2 says:

I was just saying in the last post about her, the publicity she gets is so out of proportion to her actual career. She must have a great publicist.

    • RocketMerry says:

Oh, God, thank you! Ever since I found out that she was in the film I had to do some serious self-convincing to go see it. Now I feel better.

I’m sorry, I probably came off as a “hater”. Let me clarify: I do appreciate that she is incredibly and unconventionally beautiful; and I can put aside my dislike for her (very, very fake) personality.
What I truly cannot get over, though, is the fact that girlfriend cannot act, for her life. I just cannot watch her on screen, she irks me.
So, yay! if she has little screen time in Rush.

      • Liv says:

I’m with you. She is so pretentious and arrogant! She just talks about Sudeikis in interviews, yet claims to want privacy. Can’t stand her AND she can’t act. Sorry, but I hope I don’t have to see her in films anymore.

      • Florc says:

        RocketMerry & Liv
Well said. And from the previews I thought Olivia was a bigger player in the film.

      • yolo112 says:

Yes…she’s cannot act at all, is way to try hard/fakey and something about her “I used to be a princess” story just made me roll my eyes. And sometimes, I think calling her beautiful is a stretch. Those eye make up commercials she’s in are so bad.

  2. Erinn says:

She says some dumb things but I still like her. And I personally like the photo with the helmet and goggles. I think it looks cool and different.

  3. Amy says:

Seriously? ” “Fear of carbs, of gluten, of everything – we’ve distanced ourselves from the beauty of food, the art of it. It makes me sad when people say, ‘Oh, I don’t eat gluten, I don’t eat cheese. I don’t eat this. So I eat cardboard.’”

Fear of gluten? Guessing Girlfriend has never met anyone with celiac disease or gluten or dairy allergies….

    • Anna says:

I dont think she’s referring to people with actual medical conditions, but rather those who used to eat them/have no issues consuming these items, but have been scared into giving up these ‘evil’ foods (a la GOOP) for the sake of vanity and ‘dieting’.

      • Florc says:

Olivia was this person hat wouldn’t eat those foods for years. In a post divorce interview she stated she was so stress she needed a piece of cheese having deprived herself of it for lengthy diets.
Just like most of her comments she forgets what she says in previous interviews and contradicts herself or claims it was out of context.

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

Pretty sure she is/was a raw vegan. Talk about depriving yourself…Im all for a healthy diet but when I tried eating that way it made me borderline food obsessed (was this cooked over 115 degrees, does that have bee pollen in it ect)and I just felt hungry all the time.

So either she has completely forgotten past interviews or is delusional.

    • carol says:

different people have different diets that work for them. Right now I am on a low carb keto diet. it really works for me. That’s not the only healthy diet out there though. Maybe olivia should think about that before she criticizes others diets. She comes off as pretty naive for her age. And she looks older than her years.

Further more, jen aniston has not been ‘through the wringer’. lol

    • Bridget says:

She’s in Hollywood. The bulk of the people that are following those diets definitely don’t have any medical need, it’s just deprivation.

And this one I’m willing to give her a pass on. The young actress in Hollywood who isn’t on some sort of awful diet (and isn’t just claimingthat they eat Macdonalds all the time) is the rarest creature of all.

Separate note: I am extremely skeptical of the keto diet. It’s a medical diet to control siezures in children, and to truly get the body into ketosis I thought it was supposed to be medically supervised – as in, with a hospital stay. Otherwise you’re just doing a high fat, no card diet.

    • Anna says:

She’s talking about people who adhere to gluten-free diets because a it’s trendy right now and for some stupid reason, those idiots think it’s “healthier.”

      • Lux says:

I am not allergic to gluten but it makes me feel uncomfortable. Gluten, and many carbs more generally, contribute to an increase in appetite and craving for more carbs, and thus weight gain.
As someone who struggles with bulimia, cutting out gluten has helped limit my cravings and thus limit/cease binging. It has enabled me to stop counting calories and stop obsessing over food, so now I can eat normally and not feel awful.
It’s been very transformative for me. So, maybe I am an idiot but I am a happier, healthier idiot!

      • juststeph says:

        Lux,

+1 on everything. There have been studies or at least one on gf and bulimia. Its life changing. Congrats:-)

    • RiddlesKitty says:

I eat a dairy-free, gluten-free (GFCF) diet BY CHOICE. My food does not taste like cardboard. Family and friends love the meals I prepare, and a few have even given the diet a try. The people that criticize have never given this a try, or if they did, the diet obviously isn’t compatible with their bodies.

I recently had a giant cream puff after two years of GFCF, and the side-effects were crazy, would not want to repeat that again. Knowing what I know now, I would never ever, ever go back to a regular diet. And no, I’m not stupid, crazy, ignorant, uneducated, foolish, malnourished or vitamin-deficient. So much hate, over something so small.

      • anna says:

That’s great for the two of you, but it IS a trendy thing to do these days, and a lot of people simply do it because they are ignorant and/or misinformed.

      • RiddlesKitty says:

Anna, your statement is no excuse for your narrow views. People can only be “ignorant” or “misinformed” if the perceived health benefits are made up. The benefits are real, and are plainly obvious to anyone who follows this diet. That’s akin to calling someone an idiot because you’re color blind, but they clearly see red/blue/yellow. Maybe you should give it a try before judging it.

      • juststeph says:

This is rediculous. Why are people so annoyed about others’ diet choices? People shouldn’t have to qualify their diets by proving that they feel better without it. And cardboard? Really? Ok, if natural whole foods taste like cardboard, well I guess I’m stuck eating cardboard.

Not to mention that you do feel like a different person, less tired, moody, and just feel GOOD. If people aren’t into it, fine, no prob, just stop calling us idiots when you don’t know what you’re talking about. I HAVE eaten both ways, and I know which way makes me feel better.

Oh plus no more acne or “mosquito bites”. Though I still get bit. Just zero inflamation.

    • Shoe_Lover says:

I cant eat gluten and I live in fear of eating it by accident because the after effects are so painful.
but I love the whole anti gluten faze that is happening because it is making gluten free products easier to get and they are better quality and taste now days.

  4. Tessa says:

Olivia is pretty, but looks SO OLD for her age. She looks to me like a well preserved 40, when in reality she claims to be 27 or so. I’m supposedly 3 years older then her and I just don’t buy it.

    • H. Scott says:

I think the same thing, she has to have shaved about 10 years off her age at some point.

    • Kim says:

I have always thought she is older than she says. She looks 35 plus so if she is the age she says she is she doesnt look very good. She is a decent looking girl and this cover doesnt do her any justice. Whoever took the photo did a bad job. Its a profile angle which is NEVER good for a magazine cover.

  5. gilly says:

broad shouldered? How is she broad-shouldered? Come take a sailing class and see what broad shouldered looks like. (Hint: Its muscle!)

    • Anna says:

She is definitely broad shouldered….I’ve noticed it several times throughout the years.

    • Kim says:

She has a boy body type a la Hayden Pantierre. Gymnast body type; broad shouldered, small chested, short waisted wider/muscular thighs. I think she does a good job style wise disgusing this but when she is in a bathing suit there is no denying it.

  6. emmie_a says:

They should have photoshopped some life into her hair — it’s too flat and stringy.

As for her interview, it’s the same stuff re-hashed. Boring. Someone is trying to make Olivia the next “it” girl but it’s not going to happen.

  7. Andrea says:

I don’t dislike her but I do think she tries way too hard and I think it’s very clear she grew up very privileged. That shows.

Also what about people with gluten allergies or lactose allergies? I drink almond milk bc lactose makes me sick. Jesus. Privileged much, Olivia?

  8. Sixer says:

Wow. That cover shot is so manipulated that it looks like fan art, not a photo.

  9. Maria says:

i love the pic with the goggles.

  10. hillbillyinthecorner says:

What did they do to her chest and boobs ? that is the worst photo shopping I’ve ever seen…doesn’t even look human……
and they messed with her eyes darkened them up …..She has light eyes like mine only mines lighter if you can believe it….but other wise not bad photos ,
But why mess with her chest breasts hang down not side ways even small breasts….I know that to…..LOL

  11. Bex says:

Name-dropping Aniston and insinuating her wedding is big enough to warrant a helicopter just makes me feel like she’s a bit full of herself. I am still waiting to understand why they keep trying to make her happen.

    • Sullivan says:

I can’t figure out why they’re trying to make her happen, either. She’s pretty, like a thousand other actresses. What else is there?

  12. Nono says:

Oh wow, that second-last photo! Between this and the Goop post, I’m starting to think that shoopers needs to take some human anatomy classes. This is not what human jaws look like! For one, they’re symmetrical!

  13. Talie says:

I wish they would’ve asked her about how the ghost of January Jones keeps following Jason around. I’m dying to know her thoughts.

  14. blue marie says:

well, they didn’t photo shop her enough IMO, she’s still annoying. If only you could photo shop personalities.

  15. Ellen Smith says:

Another one with crooked nostrils. Drives me insane.

  16. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

“I reached out to Jen, who has, of course, been through the wringer, and I explained the situation and I said I needed advice on how to deal with these things. She wrote me one of the most gracious, wise emails describing her journey and really wonderful words of advice about how to deal with it. And in the end, I think I would do it all again exactly the same way.”

Um, not even Jennifer acted as badly to BRAD, as Olivia did to her ex husband. And seriously, Olivia was 26 when she made those comments–she’s not old enough to know that people are going to take what she said badly? Especially when he’s never said a bad word about her, ever.

And, uh, girlfriend, unfortunately for you, no you did not start a triangle with your ex, you, and your fiance. No, it was NEVER going to ignite the tabloids (although I’m sure your publicist was almost emailing Huvane for some tips to get that going), and it was forgotten almost immediately afterwards…

    Sorry, honey…

    • Molly says:

Yes. Because a woman admitting that she was hurt in a relationship where her husband left her for another woman…is acting poorly. I’ll never get that about you fans. I’m glad all three in the story seem happy, settled, and where they should be, but to blame the wife when the husband leaves her for someone else is just weird. Why can’t you just say that you like the pairing of the husband/mistress without trying to grasp at straws to justify what happened? Like I said, weird.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

It is weird, because nowhere in my comment did I say it was a bad thing for Jennifer to be sad and hurt after her divorce. Like I said, I didn’t like what she and some of her friends did AFTER the divorce. But take what you will of it.

Would you extend your sympathies to Heidi?

  17. Algernon says:

Do we actually care enough about Olivia Wilde to justify helicoptering her wedding?

  18. IrishEyes says:

I adore the goggle shot. The editing works with it. I’ve always liked her; she’s kind of like that friend you have that does and says stupid things, but ultimately is funny and smart.
ITA about the pleasure-free dieting. Caveat: I watch what I eat for health reasons, but it drives me crazy when people say, “I have this great recipe using a pasta substitute!” Just. Eat. A. Bowl. Of. Pasta!
    *and my rant is done*

  19. tracking says:

She looks so much better without troweled on makeup, but the skin-tight clothes have got to go. They don’t come across as high fashion, but try hard instead. I can’t put my finger on why, but I don’t think they help her.

    • Nono says:

I think mostly it’s because it’s unzipped, but also because of the context. If her surroundings and the photography were more upscale, the outfit would work better, but all the dust and helmets and “look at how cool I am” cheapens the outfit.

  20. Barhey says:

Is it just me or is it a bad sign that her fiance was so disinterested that it took 6 months and an intervention to start their relationship?

  21. frank drebin says:

    way hotter than Miley
