I’m choosing to make Julie Bowen the lead lady of this Modern Family-fashion post, mostly because I think Sofia Vergara has exhausted everyone at this point and because Sofia’s dress was super-boring. I think Julie Bowen is very talented and very pretty, but her style is… out there. She once said that she shares a stylist with Kristen Stewart, and I think we need to recommend another name for poor Julie. At the end of the day though, I kind of love that Julie always gets it wrong. She’s dependable. She never really looks glamorous – she always looks like a harried mom who didn’t have time to pick out a flattering dress. That’s appealing.
Anyway, Julie wore this pink Zac Posen. It would have been okay… on Sarah Hyland. It’s just too frilly, girly and cutesy for Julie. I guess I have to give her a slow-clap for proper tailoring though. It fits like a glove and that’s something.
Here’s Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. Blah. Boring. She wears versions of this same dress all the time. Even the red color seems budget. And the jewelry was too much, too big. Maybe I’m old-school, but I don’t think you should pair emeralds with a red dress – it’s too Christmasy.
When I saw Sarah Hyland on the red carpet, I was sort of horrified to see what someone had to done to this young woman. Sarah is only 22 years old – there’s no reason for her to wear this old-lady-lace Carolina Herrera. There’s no reason for a 22-year-old to wear this much makeup. The whole thing seems like an old-timey whorehouse costume.

I didn’t even recognize Sarah Hyland. Ridic to make such a (young-looking) 22-year-old look SO awful. I mean really, it takes effort to make such a pretty girl look this ugly.
Sofia’s looks is so damn tired. She just bores me so much.
Julie looks better I guess…not amazing but not awful.
They managed to take someone who is 22 but looks about 17 and make her look like a hard 40 year old instead. I didn’t even recognize her at first. It’s a shame because she’s a beautiful girl.
Stunning dress and pretty on her, except she isn’t a glamorous enough person to carry it off. She’s always talking a mile a minute and cracking jokes and then in a dress like this she looks like she’s trying to be something she’s not. She just isn’t that type and she looks like she’s playing dress up. A Nicole Kidman type could carry this type of dress off.
sofia bores me constantly, yes i get it your body is lovely, do you need to wear variations of the same dress to keep proving it? julie bown looks like she has bulimia jaw,the hair definately should have been down. the dress is terrible. sarah is so pretty so why someone made her several shades darker with several pounds of make up and put her in an old lady dress is beyond me.

I kind of feel like Julie needs to hire Tina Fey’s stylist. Remember when Tina was a hot mess on red carpets for a couple of years? Who ever her new person is has been knocking it out of the park for the last year-and Julie could rock similar looks.

Sarah Hyland does look much older than her 22 years – the makeup is especially ageing. She would look so much better if she dressed in something more age-appropriate. Something fun!

Well I almost always love Sofia’s look and this is no exception. She really knows how to dress for her (extraordinary) body.
How can you tell Julie Bowen’s dress fits her? There are so many wrinkles it looks huge on her.
Those wrinkles are very distracting.
I actually really liked Julie’s look. I love the soft colour, the detail at the shoulders and skirt, and the tailoring is perfect – it fits her beautifully. Her make – up is gorgeous. Big thumbs up from me!

Zac Posen skews young. Women of a certain age have to be careful when donning his dresses, lest they look like they’re borrowing from their daughter’s closet.
I gotta give Sofia a pass on the fact that she wears the same style of dress often. She is boobablicious–and when you’ve got natural girls that big, you can’t always wear as much variety as a smaller-breasted woman. I underwent a breast reduction surgery–prior to that, I had to wear whatever dress fit my boobs without being too large everywhere else. As a famous actress she has more access to fashion than me–but what will contain the girls and look good? No amount of money can change that.
Christina Hendricks manages to mix things up — She doesn’t always get it right but at least she tries. Sofia doesn’t even try. She wears the same silhouette and just changes the color.

They all look bad. Too much boobs with Sofia Vegara and what the hell is with the bottom of Julie Bowen’s dress ?
However they were almost looking good compared to Sarah Hyland. Woaw…. She looks old for a 22 years old and there’s nothing good on her look. Not the makeup, not the dress even not the hair. Pity really.
I agree… I almost think Julie’s dress would’ve been ok on her w/out those huge ruffles on the bottom. The bottom detail makes the dress overwhelming on her and as someone posted above, it’s too high fashion for her.

Julie’s just doesn’t suit her personality at all. I think the shoulder things ruin it and make it look too girlish. I prefer when she goes for more of a modern look. I agree with whoever suggested Tina Fey’s stylist – or Julia Louis Dreyfus’.
Ugh, I can’t stand mermaid dresses! I remember when I was in beauty pageants in HS, we all wore those mermaid dresses (except with classy sequins, LOL). It just seems like such an old and done look. I knew Sofia would wear one last night! I like Sarah’s dress but it is too old for here and her makeup is too severe.
Julie always looks terrible at these events. They always insist on putting her in something frilly and busy. She would look so much better in something classic and simple.
You can complain about Sofia V’s always wearing a version of the same dress, but it works on her. She has large breasts and she’s not that tall. That neckline is the most flattering on a full bust line. The fitted dress shows that she’s got a slim torso and the mermaid tail at the bottom balances the top out. I can’t think of too many other looks she could do without looking too skimpy on her.
As for Julie Bowen – she should meet Mr. Calvin Klein. She has the perfect figure for wearing clean, modern lines. That Zac Posen saloon girl costume is an abomination.
Sara H. is way over made-up and her dress is not well suited or well fitted. No mention of the other “daughter”, but I think her pink one-shoulder dress was the best of the whole lot.
Those ladies should have all switched dresses. Sophia looks terrific but the green and black would have been gorgeous on her. Yes, the young lady is styled too old and is overwhelmed by the dress and make up.

Wow. I usually don’t like to compliment Sofia Vregara on anything because I’m slightly jealous of her, but that dress is amazing! This replaces the pretty yellow dress Anna Faris wore. I like the pink dress too.

Omg its hilarious hearing people complain about Sofia. Seriously, get real. If I’m pushing into my forties and I still have THAT body, you damn well better believe I’m gonna be proud and show it off. So she has a tight dress with cleavage? Big deal. I would hardly call that risqué or trashy. Claire Danes had just as low a dress, only difference between her and Sofia is that Sofia actually has breasts.

Completely disagree on the tailoring, her dress looks like an empty sack. There’s a body in there? It totally emphasizes how skinny she is. Not that I know whether or not she’s actually healthy but damn she just looks too skinny.
